Madama Butterfly II

Beautiful. Elegant and refined, masterfully balanced timeless perfume. Fruity notes are very subtle here and iris isn't too talcy, green or sharp. What I really like about this perfume is that all components are so well-balanced that You don't have to guess and think about the notes, You can just enjoy the whole composition and how it changes in time. Everything in this perfume is elegant from first notes till the end. I think that this perfume plays most probably better on people who's body temperature is a bit cooler. I'm also not sure that the whole potential of this perfume would open up with tanned skin, therefor I think that this perfume would be most beautiful during fall or winter. I also think that this perfume would suit for women in all ages. Would be ofcourse interesting to try it on a man. I've noticed many times before that such musky floral perfumes can be very pleasant on men as well. On my skin this perfume lasted the whole day and I really enjoyed each change it made throughout the day. It's wonderful that there are still perfume houses who care about the art of perfumery and concentrate on sophisticated olfactory experience. After all thouse pseudo-luxurious perfume houses, who are only concentrated on loud sexual messages,it is so refreshing to enjoy well-mannered sensuality.

An otherworldly beauty. I first received as a free sample with a fragrance purchase from Indigo Perfumery. With one whiff, this fragrance moved me. It evoked a sense of comfort, luminosity, sensuality, and mystery all at once. I have never smelled anything like it, as perhaps it is the unique blending of notes I’ve never come across before: iris with tulip and sakura (Japanese cherry) blossom. It is certainly in line with my fragrance preferences, which are feminine, elegant, refined floral woody musks. Although unusual, it is still very wearable and accessible—not so strange that it can only be appreciated for its aesthetic characteristics by the Fragrance Community Intelligentsia. Indeed it is a work of art, and I applaud the perfumeur’s passion and effort to create such a beauty. Well done! Sillage is arms length and longevity is excellent due to the high quality ingredients. I would consider this an all-season fragrance.

Very beautiful. Opens smokey (incense) and herbal, dries down to a soft, smooth Iris and wood scent. There’s some sweetness present. This is a complicated but easy to wear scent — when I look at the list of notes I feel that I can smell each one of them. Nothing more to add except that I love it.

The opening of Madama Butterfly II smells of boozy raspberries, pink pepper, cherry blossom with a flowery accord of iris. The dry down is composed of a nice blending of Tonka bean, hay, vanilla, sandalwood, cedarwood and chocolate tinged patchouli. This is really well done! 😊👃🏽❤️👍🏽

Transitions beautifully from cyborg iris to powdery iris

Madama Butterfly II a wonderful, cheerful and full floral composition that is rather enticing in the opening. Most dominant in the composition's introduction are the notes of angelica, galbanum and iris. However I do not find Madama Butterfly II dries down to something of my taste in the base where an unfortunate sharpness exists. *spoilers* Madama Butterfly II is an excellent concept where the brand attempts to construct a sequel to the three act opera Madama Butterfly. Madama Butterfly based around the tragic events that would finally destroy the life of young Cio-Cio-San or ("Butterfly" in english) a 15 year old Japanese girl. In 1904 a U.S. naval officer named B.F. Pinkerton marries Cio-Cio-San on his deployment in Japan knowing that marriage regulation is, at the time, not strict in Japan. Despite the disapproval of her family Cio-Cio-San engages with the marriage. Pinkerton leaves shortly after being married to Cio-Cio-San and she is confident he is coming back but her maid tries to convince her otherwise. She desperately waits three years for his return, in that time birthing Pinkerton a son. Pinkerton returns to Japan, this time with an American wife named Kate. He agrees to raise the child with Kate but is ashamed to tell Cio-Cio-san himself so he instructs U.S. Consul Sharpless and Kate to do it for him. Cio-Cio-San makes one final request that she would rather Pinkerton to meet with her himself and only then can he have the child. Pinkerton enters the scene. He is met with a blind-folded child and Cio-Cio-San who has, behind a screen door, taken her life with her father's seppuku knife. *spoilers* Madama Butterfly II is the conceptual continuation of Cio-Cio-San's story of how she would exist innocent, free and confident in the afterlife. An optimistic take on a very unsatisfying albiet, remarkably dramatic story. Celebrating the strength and independence Cio-Cio-San has in the afterlife. On this note Senyokô's concept is of exceptional quality as usual, but the fragrance may be missing some things that tie concept and product together. However the intro of Madama Butterfly II fits the narrative excellently. We are met with a massively pale green feel of iris, galbanum, and angelica. The trio is large, vegetal, waxy and creamy slightly earthy. Angelica attributes some very ethereal tones. Soft, green with the slightest citric and earthy accent that could resembles a stalk of celery. The angelica also exhibits a softness, the smell of a creamy, candle wax, slightly round, buttery, smooth and green with a hint of vanilla. Galbanum is a very subtle, slightly more intense, green subordinate to the angelica amplifying its vegetal, greenness balancing the iris and the angelica together. The Iris holds down the other half of this opening all on its own providing a carroty and waxy presence to Madama Butterfly II. The way the creamy, vegetal and green tones behave with the waxy and earthy tones in Madama Butterfly II fabricate an illusive dark chocolate smell and feel. Earthy, dusty, nutty and green. I find the opening blissful, comfy, happy-making, finally something I would be happy to wear and maybe own by Senyokô. But my excitement is quickly taken from me when something in the mid begins to operate. Some strange sharpness that is metallic, sweet, high pitched and just a hint chlorinated begins to take affect and it dominates Madama Butterfly II for the rest of the wear. I have found this sharpness to be contributed by the iris rhizome sometimes showing facets of hot iron. It seems a smokey incense propels this screechy, metallic quality of the iris. I've witnessed a similar metallic incenses in fragrances like: St. Giles the Writer, Prissana Ma Nishtana, Piguet's Casbah, Comme de Garçon Avignon, Affinessence Cuir Curcuma and Cedre Iris and Serge Lutens Iris Silver Mist. In the right amounts, I can tolerate this style of incense or iris that slightly resembles the smokiness of hot iron but it is not a profile I personally find ideal, and unfortunately it is amped up significantly in Madama Butterfly II. With the incense magnifying the development of the metallic iris Madama Butterfly II becomes a little cloying for me to the point of making me a bit queasy. It reads very synthetic to me. And it is with deep regret to state that for me the unappealing parts of Madama Butterfly II stay with me for the rest of its wear which distract me from the story and my enjoyment of the scent. But I love it for its paradise like opening. If only the opening were captured somehow. Unisex with a feminine lean and the sillage and longevity are more than satisfactory. I recommend you try Madama Butterfly II and the other offerings in the house of Senyokô you may very much find something that resonates with you. Despite my records I have enjoyed testing these fragrances but I find that the blending and resulting perfumes were rough, and not deserving of such beautifully, refined, concepts and packaging. 8.5/10

Parma violets and peppery incense...

I have worn my sample of this for about a week now and I can say that it is not a scent I would wear. It is peppery sweet with a sharp, musky herbaceous note that is not pleasant to my nose. I received with my sample, Mxxx by Eris Parfums and oddly enough they smell similar to me but the Mxxx's pink pepper note comes off softer in that perfume blend and I like it much better.

Very floral and beautiful, it reminds me of something. Something I've tried and liked before. It's driving me nuts and I can't concentrate until it occurs to me... I got it! The niche/luxe range of Versace scents -- Desert Velvet oud, or something like that. I'm so glad I got that, it was driving me nuts... There are a lot of synthetic components to this, definitely iso-e, but also something else that is more prominent. Raspberry, iris, some heavy synths and a heap of soft floral. Not really my cup of tea, but still potent. I would recommend trying before buying...

Floral harmonica.... This is a harmony of floral. Airy iris, angelica, cherry blossoms, white musk, water lily, powder, & touch of white silky sheets. I get as well some white soft sands, soft cedarwood, & sandalwood. This is a very soft powdery sheer fragile blend made of floral. Beautiful.

a dusty iris raspberry smoky incense combo that sits close to the skin. reminds me of midnight rose tresor...

It reminds me of the grassy oily note that is supposed to smell like hashish in Black Afgano, just greener.
