Bois et Musc

Funny how the SL Bois series are so much alike each other but so different from anything else out there. Anyway, I wanted this one for 6 years before finially getting to Paris and, at last, buying it. Its woodiness makes me think of Tam Dao in a way, but this is much thicker, richer, with a more direct dry down. I didn't know how my friends & family would react to this one, but they love/like it! All-in-all it's pretty sophisticated stuff. Hope I get to Paris again before I use it all up!

One of the simplest woody aromatic scents created, this is a clean elegant minimalist offering from this eclectic line. The scent opens with notes of beautiful Virginia cedar, transitions to a heart of beeswax and saffron and settles on a bed of synthetic musk. The unisex scent has moderate sillage and longevity. This is a scent of textures, something meant for internal reflection and self enjoyment. Lovely!

I find this a discreet but wearable everyday perfume. There are warm wood notes, most notably sandalwood and cedar, enclosed in an aura of feminine musk. This scent wears extremely close to the skin. It's nearly impossible to smell a thing if you're not sniffing your wrist directly. That makes it a great scent to wear at the office. You'll smell good to yourself but nobody else, if not standing very close, will notice. Like wearing nice underwear. Most people will not know about them but they are still adding to your general well being and self confidence. As an extra curiosity fact, this one smells exactly like the base notes of "Bois de Violette". Just remove the violets, amp up all base notes and add some drops of musk, and you've got "Bois et Musc"!

If you liked Feminite du Bois you'll very probably dig this. The usual Lutens syrupy quality is toned down and paired to a rosy-musky element while a solid cedarwood base directly descendent from the original Shiseido, serves as a terrific interpretation of a woddy fragrance. Not my favorite Lutens but still well worth checking out if you like the house. Rating: 7/10

I am scrolling down to review to share my view without looking into the "prescribed" notes: - wood is definitely present - something like bark - some sort of pine needles also present - oakmoss or earthy green something - yes - slightly dirty musc, but not too dirty. It smells more like a dark pine forest after the rain in early autumn. More masculine than femine.
