The first time or two I tried Clair de Musc I felt like it was just another classic white musk and was too similar to The Body Shop White Musk smell (among others) that we all know so well. I found it hard to justify the price when there seemed like so many similar options out there for a much smaller price tag ......but now I feel differently. I rarely wear it because I have way too many perfumes but each time I do, I find it more beautiful. And yes it does smell similar to many other classic white musks on the market but this one is extra special. It is so beautifully done. Not screechy or cold, it is smooth and comforting. While clean, it isn't TOO clean like that stark clean white linen smell...it has a slight woody earthiness to it. It is a classic powdery iris white musk but somehow doesn't feel as stark and cold, or sour, as some of the others. It is slightly sexy and the kind of scent most people would find appealing and not obnoxious or intrusive. I grow to love Clair de Musc more and more each time I wear it. I have tried countless white musks in the floral white musk category as it is one of my favorite smells and find it to be superior to most of them. For what reason I can't quite put my finger on. It just feels more complete or something. Longevity on me is fantastic, can still smell it the next day. Clair de Musc doesn't really smell like "perfume". It is fairly casual and not something you would choose for a formal outing or anything like that. It is more like a comforting scent when you want to simply smell nice and not intrusive or distracting.

I'm always slightly embarrassed to admit this is an all-time favourite of mine, as it isn't challenging or unusual-smelling and doesn't perform well for the price point. Regardless, this is probably the single best "clean" musk fragrance out there in my opinion, and I'm glad that after 2 years of loving samples I've finally pulled the trigger on a full bottle. Clair de musc is an exceptionally well-done musk scent without any kind of hard edge or discordant note. Many musks can be just a tad too abrasive, a little too soapy, or just smell slightly "off" in a hard-to-describe way. Clair de musc isn't dirty to me, but is somehow still much less sterile than Jovan's White Musk (also a great scent but hyper-clean). For me, CdM beats all the other clean musks: it's cosy and comforting, professional, and soft. Every element feels truly balanced but the smell is certainly well-blended; it would take an exceptional nose to actually be able to pick out iris and neroli from this cloud. It's perhaps because my mother only ever wore musks (though never CdM specifically), but clean musk fragrances to me are often evocative of white-shirt workers who have their lives under control. I don't actually know if the fragrance has been reformulated since the transition to black label bottles, though I do have samples from both eras and find the current (black label) scent to be perhaps marginally sweeter? It could easily be my imagination though. Longevity is only around 5 hours on me and it's a very low-sillage skin scent after an hour. Can be sprayed with abandon, however.

Musk is my favorite note. it will not come as suprise, i love Clair de Musc with all my heart. it has all the "right" notes for me and nothing wrong. i dearly love it and want a bottle. two years ago, i smelled soapy ntoes in the opening here and dismissed the scent because i dislike soapy. now, ismelled those soapy notes 2 seconds, they were gone and i was left with a gorgeous musk that is åprobably my perfect musk, i have ordered two spray samples and there wasnt' this soapy note there. indeed, i was blessed with loveliest musc. it is clean, but not laundry clean, it is rather natural and warm clean,. soft, skin scent, fits into my "perfect musk" and my "perfect perfume" cathegory - a perfume that doesn' smell like perfume, instead, it smells sensual, good, smells like skin, like a woman, like my scentless body cream on my warm skin, but better. i do love it. no sweetness here, which is a good thing for me. powder, drykind of scent. not much flowers to my nose, which is also a goos thing to me. it does have old school vibe, especially in the opening, i do recomend to test it. it reminds me a lot of avon soft musk, which i already have and like, so i am not rushing buying a bottle just now. but one day, i will have this beauty in that beautiful bottle. much softer and more neutral as Body Shop white musk. it works well as a relax scent to me, get me to sleep scent, as well as scent for those ocassions i am not suppose to wear any perfume. beautiful. for all musk lovers.

Blown. Away. I have fallen deeply in love with this beautiful fragrance. I went a bit overboard recently, going on a perfume buying spree - seven bottles in one week - and while I'm still waiting for one more to arrive, there is not a stinker in the lot. But this! I can't explain why I find it so captivating, but I could honestly say that I would be happy to bathe in it. Powdery, but not too powdery, slightly sweet, with just enough floral delicacy to pretty it up, I find the addition of neroli to be inspired because it cuts through what could have been an overly sweet and powdery mess. It has easily risen to the top levels of my favorite perfumes, no mean feat given the size of my collection. I don't know if there is any difference or a reformulation, but I snagged a bottle with the old beige label. Two of my other favorite masks are Lutens' l'orpheline and Chanel's 1957. I love both of them, but Clair de Musc is most definitely my favorite. Leans feminine, with intimate to moderate projection. I can't speak to the longevity yet, as I'm still getting to know it. Many have spoke of dupes or ones that smell similar, and I certainly have no reason to doubt them, but for me I have to say that I am very happy to own this one in all it's original glory.

My most favorite musk scent. Initially, I will say it is a bit stinky. But DON’T judge her based on that. She dries down to the most beautiful iris musk. I saw someone say it smells like a urinal cake and I *kind of* see it, just barely. But it doesn’t stay that way for long. When you’re trying out a new musk, you have to be prepared for it to turn funky. I panicked the first time I wore it because it *seems* like it’ll be a funky one, but this one turns into a beautiful dance between a powdery, semi-realistic iris and a soft, warm musk. It swings back and forth, delicately dancing on the skin. I do think this one is better on skin than on clothes. It’s lasted a solid 10 hours on moisturized skin for me, about 5-6 on dry skin. It’s not got crazy projection or sillage, but I don’t want it to. I want it to be just for me. It’s difficult to find a full bottle of for less than $250, some asking for close to $400. Sigh. My search begins for a replacement because this one WILL leave a hole in my heart once it’s gone. I’ve been using my small splash sparingly to prolong our time together. BUT, if anybody in the US is looking to get rid of their bottle for a reasonable price, please let me know.

This is pure cream and powder, clean and dry. I'm in love. Soft, CREAMY, delicate musk with long staying-power when / if sprayed on clothes. The iris note rounds out the musk and creates a fluffy, soft pink (?) aura. I think Jovan White Musk would be it's very nice 13-year-old little sister. Clair de Musc would be the confident-in-her-own-skin 29 year old sister who has it all - beauty, brave-innocence, intelligence, and that certain... girl-next-door-men-want-to-marry sorta vibe. LOVE this scent. Note that it does have a sort of "dirty" note in it... Sort of a warm-powder, animalistic scent permeating the dry-down. When it's on my wrist, I can't stop smelling!!! It's like I accidentally (yet happily) fell into some creamy, powdered vanilla cake and just dusted myself off, leaving this wonderful, warm powdered (unsweetened?) angel-cake cloud in my wake. Does not last very long on the skin though, but it certainly stays potent if you spray on your clothes. Very lovely and intimate. If you wanna smell like an earth-angel, this it THE ONE. (And guess what?! I have finally found my grown-up signature scent: Clair de Musc by Serge Lutens. Hooray!!! My search is over thanks to Fragrantica.)

This. There is something so special about it - maybe it has to do with my own memory with it, but I cannot help but be enveloped by soft, clean dry down of this scent that puts me almost in a trance. I only want to close my eyes to fall into it and experience it even more. It opens up with a nostalgic echo of Chanel, almost verging on being a bit lavender-like, channelling timeless beauty of different scents from long ago, but when it dries down...man, this is so subtle, but so incredibly sexy. It is suffocating, intoxicating, raw and powerful, but in a very clean way. Crazy. I first had a taste of it from someone I was once in love with and it was one more spark that added to our connection. If it matches you just the right way it is so enchanting words cannot explain. I am so glad I got my bottle and I am sure that I will be always looking for getting more as this is unforgettable. Edit: After spraying it day after day I can strongly say this is incredible. It's feels as if you've taken a bath in heaven (not to sound cheesy but man, I cannot describe it any other way) and stepped out just to be enveloped by softest cotton and silk robes just to be laid in a bed of lilies.

I’m a fan of the house Serge Lutens, and it’s surprising that I find myself finally wearing Clair de Musc. Released in 2003, this classic Lutens musk has some distinct stages and I’m loving the final dry down phase: the bright, laundry musk has mellowed, and it’s here I pick a whiff of sex. It’s still a clean innocent scent, but it’s covering up a bit of funk and I find it so appealing. I wish only that I got here quicker. Christopher Sheldrake’s signature sweetness is apparent. The younger version of myself passed this one up, but my sense of smell has matured. Too bad the original formula is hard to find. Next I’m ready to sample Muscs Koublaï Khän. Side note: True, I did just sell a Serge Lutens I no longer wore, Arabie. But I cannot imagine my life without Serge Lutens. I read over the weekend a thread on one of the forums, about brands people have grown tired of, and Lutens came up several times which surprised me. I will forever love the original formulas of Un Bois Vanille, Bois De Violette, Feminite du Bois, Gris Clair, Jeux de Peau, Douce Amère, Santal Blanc and Datura Noir. And I have immense respect for several others that are difficult to wear.

Soft, powdered creamy-musk bliss! (Without the anoying sweetness.) I've left a review for Clair de Musc before, but I thought I'd add that this is *AMAZING* when paired with a small amount of Infusion D'Iris by Prada. Like I mentioned in a previous reveiw, it's like I accidentally (yet happily) fell into some creamy, powdered vanilla-iris cake and just dusted myself off, leaving this wonderful, warm powdered (unsweetened?) cold angel-cake cloud in my wake. Not powdery though. More of a creamy affect. Does not last very long on the skin, but it certainly stays close by if you spray on your clothes or in your hair. Very lovel, creamy and intimate. WHEN COMBINED WITH INFUSION D'IRIS BY PRADA: I cannot even *begin* to tell you how many compliments I get when I wear this combo. The overall effect is modern-Iris perfection, without the "old lady" smell and without the overpowering sweet floral vibe that I get from just the Infusion D'Iris, exclusively. When layered, Clair de Musc and Infusion D'Iris create earthy heaven, all at once. Highly recommend buying these two together.

Serge Lutens Clair de Musc is from the light side of the Lutens palette, almost a musky skin scent after the first hour or two. In the top there is a gentle blend of neroli and orris lying on top of a lightly animalic musk. The floral notes fade fairly quickly and what is left is an ethereal and radiant skin scent. To my nose this base is not a clean soapy smell - there is sharp civet-like note that persists all the way to the end, though it is subtle enough that you might not notice if you aren't paying attention, or if your olfactory sensitivities are different from mine. For those of you who wear this and think it smells like nice clean white musk soap - beware! ... you are projecting a subtle invitation to take a roll in the hay. Sheldrake and Lutens consistently make the most amazing niche scents, but there is a candied-fruit and dark spice note that lurks more or less in the background or foreground of most of their perfumes. Only a few of their releases are completely devoid of the patented Lutens aura, and Clair de Musc is one of those. What a pleasure.

This is one of those guilty pleasures in that I think for basically a white musk, it's way too spendy. Yes, one could go with The Body Shop or Alyssa Ashley etc but there's something about this little basic that I just like a lot more than the other cheapies. It's smoother and more refined, doesn't smell like dryer sheets or Febreeze. It's clean but not overly and isn't soapy. It's a little more powdery from the iris and does remind me of a less powdery version of Teint de Neige which I love in the dead of winter. I can also see the Chanel no 5 connection for the 1st 30 min with the aldehydes. This is lighter weight and it's the thing I wear when I want an undemanding, pretty halo of scent. Were it not a Serge, I think people wouldn't be as harsh with criticism as being out of place in the Serge lineup. That being said- I got it heavily discounted and not sure I would have sprung for it at full price.

Clair de Musc is my favorite powdery white musk fragrance on the market. It bounces between squeaky clean and animalic depending on the day. Some days it smells more like a creamy iris musk with bright aldehydic tones and other days the musk smells of the mysterious duskiness imparted by the neroli. On my skin, this opens with a distinct lily note which does not appear in the pyramid above. Additionally, I am surprised that neither vanilla or sandalwood are listed, I can clearly smell both in the musky base of this perfume. For my preferences and sensibilities, Clair de Musc is a very enjoyable, wearable comforting musk. Perfect for casual wear. Longevity is very good, I can smell it for most of a day. The sillage is polite but after a couple hours, this becomes a skin scent. Seriously gorgeous stuff!

It must have been quite a shock when Serge put this little delicate musk out but now it has been out for quite awhile, in fact in the Serge Luten's collection it is actually a bit of an oldie. Clair de Musc is a pure clean creamy little musk that is practically like putting on a clean downy white robe. It is comfortable and clingy in with way your favorite worn out cotton bedtime t-shirt feels but Serge makes the point of making sure it has no out of pointed edges, rounded like mother of pearl this scent is all about comfort. I feel like he created this little musk to flabbergast his audience and it does but strangely I suspect it has quite a little following.

On me this has amazing longevity and decent sillage. It is clean and calming. Clean, but never sharp or soapy, there's still enough of the animal in Clair de Musc to keep it both soft and interesting. The fantasy scent of a soft grey cat. There is also a radiance in this perfume, a ray of moonlight. Neroli combined with musk perhaps? The iris offers a subtle buttery and earthy sweetness. Human skin, only better. Clair de Musc is one of those perfumes that does not smell "perfumey", yet it does smell luxurious. On days when I do not know what to wear, but just want to smell good, more than good, I reach for its grey florals and furry musk.

I discounted this the first time I wore it as I could barely smell it (probably due to the fact I was on a Lutens bender at the time and tested it after heavy hitters like Chergui and Ambre Sultan). Now it's Summer so I revisited it ; and I have been wearing it for days continuously now. I think it needs some warmth to come alive (as my skin is pretty cool usually). I detect some soft citrus like warmed lemon peel, but nothing sharp or jarring. And skin musk - like clean healthy skin. Clean and alive not sterile. Finally a woody clear iris; as if said skin has been smoothed with crushed iris petals. Addictive and worth multiple sampling.

SUPER yummy! At first spray - STRONG Chanel vibes, with a hit of aldehydes. They don't go waxy though, and instead form a beautiful creamy bubble of soap. Very clean, very comforting, and very "white". I totally get @RConectn's comment about the stripper vibes though. On me, the dry down goes very slightly animalic (PERFECT, beautiful balance to my nose), avoiding the dirty skank that so many other Serge Lutens perfumes give me (Fleurs d'Oranger, I'm looking at you). Kind of expensive for such a "simple scent", but what can I say, it's simplicity done to perfection. Recommend 100% for anyone who likes soapy, musky scents.

Safe musk for those who are scared of this note (here I am), clean and perfect for a stay at home night but also def. wearable out there in the world without worrying too much of leaving an "animalic trail" of your presence. It's more of a skin scent anyway, with a good longevity and no great projection, which is what I prefer in a perfume. I find it very similar to l'Interdit (the mytique edition, not the new one) and I'd say l'Interdit mytique is unexpectedly more naughty than Clair de musc, that stays innocent, pale and tender in comparison. Lovely (under the moon).

Underestimate the iris at your own peril. It bombards almost to the point of overwhelming at first. On the wrong day this is an absolute scrubber for me, but on a good day it’s a stronger, more winter-friendly Infusion d’Iris soapy/powdery scent that dries down to a very pleasant faintly-citrus musk. For me, this isn’t worth more than a sample size as there are many musks I prefer and many more still to try. Edit 2025: Loving this cool, clean, milky iris now. The soft soapy wafts are completely beautiful and almost make me want to cry. It’s become a favourite for me.

What a dreamy, sweet, pretty perfume! And here I thought I didn’t like musk. I agree with xrayer, that it’s reminiscent of No. 5 Eau Premiere. It has more musk, and is not as high maintenance, a cross between the Chanel and Jovan Musk, without the latter’s moldy, mustiness. It’s 5EP after she gets home, kicks off her heels, puts on a fluffy soft robe and cuddles her puppy. Very clean calm and comforting. I could see this being a solid signature fragrance or a first perfume. Ageless and timeless.

This is probably sacrilege but, to me, Clair de Musc is like a cross between a $10 bottle of Jovan White Musk and a $5 bottle of Body Fantasies Signature Fresh White Musk by Parfums de Coeur. It's a very, very pretty white floral musk, but is it worth $70+? No. I'm going to have to go with no. EDITED TO ADD: There are traces of Musc Nomade in the vegetal dry down of Clair de Musc. It really is pretty. But since I own all three of the afore-mentioned white musks, I think this is a hard pass.

It is an elegant, soft, fluffy, clean white musk and iris scent. Nothing groundbreaking, but if you like musky fragrances like the Body Shop's White Musk or Musk by Alyssa Ashley, Clair de Musc is definitely a more elegant, sophisticated version of those. Perfect for any occasions, comforting and non offensive, I see this wearable by anybody, all year round, except maybe on hot summer days.

I am head over heels inlove with this scent. This is pure beauty, like that beautiful woman who does not wear any makeup, just combs her hair in the morning, and is completly oblivious about her beauty. That is how Clair de Musc comes across to me, so effortlessly beautiful. Calm, clean and powdery, a natural beauty if one can say that about a perfume. I can not explain it in any other way.

Clair de Musc is how Chanel's 1957 should have smelled. This is such an elegant musk, a light fizz of aldehydes, iris and powder with a nuance of violet. It's a simple perfume, but you can smell the skeletal structure of the classic No. 5. The musk is slightly sweet, a bit animalic, but very well tamed. It's both angelic and sexy. I hope I'm never in need of a bottle of this.

I am NOT a fan of musk but I have to say Clair de Musc is exquisite. Beautiful light musk fragrance that cheer up my senses. I smell the musk with the Iris and it makes a beautiful combination. This fragrance should be unisex. I am male and I love it. It lasts a very long time on me 6-7 hours and maybe more.

Clair de Musc is a gorgeously cozy, natural feeling fragrance that takes the best of Jovan White Musk's clean and pretty, and wraps it around the best of Coty Wild Musk's warmth and earthy creaminess. It then adds to them both a beautifying powder. Soft, natural and subtly sexy in my book.

You've been naughty and have indulged in pink cotton candy at the carnival....You know you shouldn't but the sweet treat seduces you. With the right mind set, young and older can pull this off. A treat for the senses that Serge never fails to create for us!

OMG...where have you been all my life? This is absolutely gorgeous, musky, clean and clear...it reminds of my beloved No 5 eau premiere. I have recently developed a love affair with musks and have snapped up a few NR...this is going on my to-buy list.

I am not a huge musk fan. In fact, for years, I intently avoided musk fragrances. Based on my '80's formative olfactory years, it always smelled cheap. Then I discovered Narciso Rodriguez musc, Eau de Parfum intense, and I just fell in love. So I started looking for other musk, and found SL Clair de Musc. I put it on my hand and spent some time deciding what I really thought of it. Nice, but indeed very musky, I thought. After a couple of hand sprays tries, I decided to go the full way... And sprayed it on myself... First thing I know, my husband is saying (unprompted) "wow, you smell nice". Coming from him, it's a huge endorsement. Then my daughter, ever the clever critic, goes "yes, this is really nice". In both cases, it was interesting how niceness was prominent. Nothing less, nothing more. And, this is how I feel about it. It is very nice in an easy and enveloping sort of way. I still am not a huge musk fan, but I've learned to appreciate how reassuring it feels. SL Clair de Musc is very tame compared to other SL fragrances. And I am not sure it is that much different from other musk perfumes (at least the ones I can think of -- and I'll admit to being a neophyte in this respect). But, yes, it is very nice, in a non-threatening kind of way. On me: It opens with a small bang, but proceeds to settle within 10 minutes. Thereafter, it becomes a skin scent, musky, with a slight powdery (Iris) vibe. The high quality ingredients make it a pleasure to inhale. update: Clair de Musc has definitely grown on me! I now regularly reach for it and, every time, I find it prettier than the previous time. The warm weather releases some new delicately floral notes previously hidden, making it even more enjoyable.

I have for a long time been seeking a simple musk, and this offering from Lutens is very possibly the answer to my wishes. Clair de Musc is one of the few musky perfumes to smell "clean" that I actually feel comfortable wearing, as it never ventures off into "washing powder" or "sharp-floral-headache" territory. The initial blast is animalic to me, and reminds me of Kiehl's Original Musk, albeit not as strong, and, as it settles, softly and delicately, it flirts between something a bit clean, powdery or slightly animalic. There is always an undercurrent of something floral. The dry-down is lovely, and as the day progresses the scent assumes a musky, lived-in, intimate sort of smell, that's soft and clean and calming. Only a soft to moderate sillage here, the fragrance is actually quite light, translucent almost, but very pretty. Longevity is for about 4-5 hours before it fades to a faint whisper of a scent. I would've loved for this one to last a little longer :)

Opens with a hit of sparkling aldehydes and clean white florals - I believe this must be the neroli. I don't get the bergamot, but perhaps that slight sourness is what stops it from becoming too powdery. To me, this sits somewhere in the middle of 2 from Diptyque: Orpheon and L'eau Papier. It has some of the posh soap vibes of Orpheon, with the inoffensive, fresh-out-of-the-shower vibes of Papier. Closer to Papier though. It's clean, very simple in terms of notes - just white florals and a musky freshness. I can't imagine how anyone could actively dislike this, it's too inoffensive. Would I want to smell like this? I guess right out of the shower it would make a nice companion to getting dressed. Seeing as how close it sits to the skin, it could easily be layered with something else shortly after applying, with any hints of this being overshadowed by whatever you put on next. I foresee that being the way I use up my sample.

I *wanted* to love this. But its only a like. It smells exactly like make up, specifically Coty Airspun. Clair de Musc makes me feel happy because I associate that scent with going out for dinner or to the movies or the start of a fresh new day. It does become a bit cloying, especially mid day. The longevity is weak to moderate, and I expect better from such an expensive perfume. It opens musky but still "fresh" with the strong iris component. I'm a sucker for iris, I love it and I can't get enough of that clean, powdery, floral smell. CdM continues in its sweet, musky, makeup-y journey. This isn't a "dirty" musk, like Classique from JPG, it's sweet and reminds me of bed sheets that have been slept in only a few times. Overall I really liked this, but I didn't love it. I got hints of Blue Grass by EA, it's similar but not a dupe. It is lovely to spritz on in the morning, but not full bottle worthy.

This is all about iris and musk combo on my skin. People usually expect something "extremely clean" and "skin like" when they try out a musk dominated perfume, but with "Clair de Musc" the case is a bit different. I usually do not like fragrances dominated by iris, but here it's simply lovely. It's powdery and old-lipstick like and together with musk makes this a bit sharp and soapy. Even though most people say that this is soft and easy to wear, I don't think that it actually is - it's very strong, the silage is all over the place and the iris plays a very strong role, the soapy part is a bit sharp, so it does not feel so clean. Easily could be worn by both sexes, but because of the floral part might suit females better. Overall - a good and high quality musk fragrance one could expect from Serge Luten's. Worth a try to see if this different take on "clean musk" works on your skin.

This is so pretty, it's an evocative and well-crafted fragrance, even if it is a little simple. Simple can be refreshing. It opens and stays quite musky the entire duration of the wear length, but it can be safe to say that this musk smells more traditional and less current, it doesn't resemble any of the Narciso Rodriguez fragrances that I've tried so far. It smells classic. The iris is very soft, and the tone of it alongside the musk feels like soft grayish purple to me. It has a soapy undertone and feels very French. It's what I would wear to sip coffee alone a local cafe overlooking the harbor, on my own while I write poems. For whatever reason it smells like late winter on the verge of spring. It makes me feel pensive, reflective, withdrawn and yet quietly creative. I don't think I love it, but I do appreciate it quite a lot, and it's of obvious quality.

Pretty. Opens with a blast of aldehydes that were a litttttle Chanel (I don’t love aldehydes but luckily they dissipated fast). Then a sort of clean barbershop musk. I know everyone is saying how feminine Clair de Musc is, and I agree it could be read as feminine but it really does give me Italian barbershop musk at the same time! I think anyone could wear it. It’s so interesting how different reviewers have said it’s grandmotherly and others have said it’s too teenage girl, some have called it angelic and innocent while a few others called it a stripper scent. I think that speaks to the enigmatic quality of musk—young yet old, feminine yet masculine, innocent yet slutty—shifting its impression based on whoever wears it. Ultimately, though CdM is pretty, I am not wowed and prefer my Musc Pallas by Jovoy. This is still a lovely scent, however. Just not for me.

This was a pleasant surprise for me. As I said before, I was so overwhelmingly in love with Chergui at the time, I barely acknowledged Clair de Musc and Datura Noir at the time. But what I DID like about Clair de Musc is that it reminded me of my grandmother. Not in that dusty-old-lady/Miss Havisham/wee-and-biscuits kind of way, but more in the era of when real furs were okay to wear and women wore 3" heels were thought of ask risque. My grandmother used to sometimes give me her old handbags to play with, and they smelt of face powder, Chanel No. 5, and traditional old-fashioned rouge. Clair de Musc doesn't smell at all like Chanel No. 5 (another of my FIRM favourites) ... but it reminds me of my grandmother's presence in my childhood, which was so large. I am certain that it will be a part of my regular wardrobe.

This is a pretty violet/iris musk w/ just enough neroli and bergamot to give it a slight freshness. Super feminine, I can't see a man wearing this. It reminds me of dusty purple cashmere cardigan sweaters in a white dresser drawer of a 15 year old girl. She is dreaming of some boy (who is probably a Senior and 18) and wears this in the hopes the smell will catch his attention in the hallway or in English class. It reminds me of something I would have worn in the 80's when I was a teen. While I like this and think it is pretty, I'm glad I only got the travel spray because it does have that romantic teenage girl vibe going on. I'm a little too old to be wearing something like this on a regular basis LOL. But if you want a pretty, romantic, yet a bit melancholy violet/iris musk this is a good way to go.

white musk-esque scents have become SO ubiquitous the past decade that they've been rendered pretty characterless in my opinion. clair de musc, though, humbles me and reminds me not to be so quick to judge. she is comfort in a bottle. personal yet crowd pleasing, if need be. not as watery and a bit denser than lots of other white musks, yet also manages to be a bit sparkly, due to the bergamot and neroli (and aldehydes, surely). i find so many musks to be quite flat, like a soda that has lost its carbonation. but clair de musc is--and stays--carbonated. yet even with this effervescent suggestion, i detect a pinch of melancholic pensiveness, too (hello iris), which is a feeling suggested throughout the SL 'between the storm and clear skies' fragrances in various ways. i can't help but adore that.

My second scent from Serge Lutens, first being Muscs Koublai Khan. Compared to MKK, CDM is much more balanced and far less animalic of a musk. The other notes work much more in harmony with the musk scent to give a very usable scent for both men and women - though i do think it leans slightly more feminine. However, this would be fine for a man to wear regularly though - I'd just suggest something with a bit more edge to it (like MKK, which i adore) for date nights. I don't get a sense of this being like Jovan White Musk at all. Jovan White Musk smells like hairspray at first, has no longevity, and less sillage too. There are more...floral? notes evident in jovan. Overall jovan white musk is a much less sophisticated scent and performs much worse than CDM.

This is a well-blended soapy-iris-musk smell.. Really nice, quite long lasting, soft to the nose but not faint, much better than jovan's and bettina barty's musk, in my opinion. If they can make a scent like this without animals dying or suffering (i.e. if they can produce it purely artificially), then one can wear it with light conscience ;)If not, stop making it... -trivia: in a serge lutens pamphlet the ingredients are slightly different and i quote: Body: powdered musk, plant-based musk, hibiscus seed . Luminosity: Bergamot, neroli petals. Fluidity: Moroccan rose petals, spice carnation, white jasmine petals from Morocco. Irisation: Tuscan iris powder, Mysore sandalwood powder.

I got this as a sample & probably never would've gone out of my way to seek it out otherwise because of the powdery iris. At first it does smell like fancy baby powder, although not in a sickening way like most powdery fragrances do to me. That part is short lived though and after about half an hour it smells like Jovan white musk. While Jovan WM can be a bit rough (sometimes I swear it smells like cigarettes to me) this is softer while still being bright. After a while the soap aspect mellows to a gorgeous skin musk. It also has amazing longevity, I can still smell it 8 hours later on my skin even and that never happens! This would be a safe buy for any musk lover.

I am downsizing my Lutens collection (which included almost all of them), going through all perfumes deciding what to get rid of. The problem is, I want to keep almost everything, even the ones that I don't absolutely love, like Clair de Musc. Because this is just so well made, so rounded, so effin classy, it's unreal. Initially it really does resemble a less aggressive, gentler Chanel No 5. And the rest of it, including the absurdly pretty drydown is this gorgeous clean fluffy musk with very gentle iris undertones. Not my type of scent profile, but my God, this is so expertly crafted. It's a keeper.
