La Fille Tour De Fer

Serge is playing linguistic tricks on us again. The Iron Tower Girl, The Girl of the Iron Tower, The Iron Girl, etc., however you choose to interpret the title, is not really a towering-or-not-towering girl made of iron. Perhaps this is meant to be a bit more rude, as in a girl who enjoys something tall and as hard as iron - cough. It wouldn’t be the first time Serge has taken that inspiration, thinking back to Fils de Joie which was equally lascivious in its connotation and presentation. LFTdF is in that vein: a lot of fun but in a sort of guilty and shameful way. The opening of the perfume is unashamedly an aldehydic rainbow pepper and rose blast. Let’s party! It’s certainly attention grabbing, but it fades fairly quickly to sweet and seductive, but a touch standoff-ish, as the perfume undulates between a fruity and jammy rose, and a green and difficult rose thanks to a geranium-flecked note. Come hither, but work for it. There is a well-judged addition of orris to the mix to keep things dry and starchy just enough so as to not go full-on come-hither, which certainly makes itself more apparent during the dry down with a buttery facet as the rose becomes luscious, creamy, and relaxed. Ok, you’ve earned the come-hither. It’s a very flexible woody type scent, also slightly undulating to a green type note, perhaps the orris shape-shifting a bit or a very nice heavy musk, sandalwood and vetiver sort-of combo. There is also something a touch leathery as well; perhaps another trick. Am I reading too much into this? Am I of a certain mood myself? Perhaps. I think the intent was to add an “abstract” rose to the Lutens line-up in a way that makes you say “rose” without ever fully revealing itself or convincing you as such, taking a different approach from Sa Majeste La Rose for example. In that regard, it doesn’t succeed. I don’t think there is enough “other stuff” going on to accomplish true abstraction. I get rose, without a doubt, every second, but rose of a slightly different speciation/temperament at different intervals. So while I can’t really tell you if the brand has achieved what it’s set out to do, or that I’m particularly convinced of one interpretation over another, I can say it’s very good. I’m hot and bothered. It’s an excellent rose perfume worthy of the Lutens name and a place in the brand’s lineup.

This is a Great Scent , Floral, Airy, Complex, Powdery and Unique. I bought it blind-buy by chance! The Hudson Bay Closed in Canada and There was 70% off for Perfumes , I bought it with reasonable price. At first I checked reviews and Its notes , I don't like floral Rose note dominant in perfume but This perfume is a work of Art inside a bottle! It opens up with floral Rose and soft Spicy in the background then dry down is floral powdery iris and soft Spicy. This perfume is a Modern floral powdery with theme classic in dry down and masterful Well-blended Composition. The Rose note is dominant in the opening and It is very smooth and gentle. Overall, I love it and I'm so happy that I found it. Longevity is very good. It is suitable for Spring and Fall. I really enjoy it when the weather is Rainy. Highly Recommended. Two Thumbs Up. I only just got around to smelling this new Serge. In short, it's lovely. Less cold than La Fille de Berlin but not so warm and radiantly sun-like as Sa Majeste, La Fille Tour de Fer retains the concision that characterises Lutens' florals. Softly cold but not at all edgy, it opens with an enormous heap of Turkish rose petals, with supporting notes lending only a faint impression of coolness rather than being readily detectable. Perhaps even there's a reference to Cracheuse de Flammes, but my memory is failing me in relation to that now discontinued rose. It dries down to a really top-tier white musk, one evocative of the kinds of huggable scents that marked Sophia Grojsman's heyday. An "Angelic" rose soliflore, an easy reach with perfect execution.

A misty, overgrown rose hedge on a chilly morning. The rose is realistic and fresh, not just petals but also stems, leaves, thorns. The pink pepper brings an earthiness and enhances the lively green character. Meanwhile, the pronounced iris complements the rose, but it makes for more complexity than a typical soliflore, in my opinion. Quite enchanting. Beyond the obvious rose throughline and a shared sombre atmosphere, La Fille Tour de Fer is nothing like La Fille de Berlin to me. La Fille de Berlin is a dying bouquet whose thorns are dripping with blood, but La Fille Tour de Fer is its precursor—still rooted to the soil and very much alive. I love them both, but Tour de Fer takes the cake for me. They're certainly not interchangeable.

I acquired this by happy accident and it took me by surprise. I usyally avoid rose Perfumes as often something in the juice brings forward a terrible horse piss smell.....but not here. I've only been to Paris in winter and so can't conceive the atmosphere referenced. However I grow roses and grew up in rose gardens and to me this fragrance evokes a moments repose in a sheltered rose garden on cool granite slopes. An inherited collection of Old blooms, a fussy tea or two, the best new romantic hybrids. A breeze brings in a hay meadow and sends papery petals to the ground. A languid summer spell. Pure boudoir delight. I will most likely use this on my bed linens for the dreamiest of nights.

Unadulterated rose with a splash of iris and a sprinkle of pepper (I suspect more but it manages to keep it minimal so you can revel in the rose). It manages to be both simple and dazzling, classic yet unique. For me it's the best SL rose, as I've always craved a jammy rose like this that a) isn't sweet b) isn't alongside patchouli, cacao, oud, vanilla, or any other common distractions c) isn't lipsticky/makeup baggy d) is uncomplicated enough to layer when you want that dash of true rose e) isn't expensive (I paid 45 euros) f) has that special something to snag you in and this ticks all the boxes.

Cooling HOT roses... It's like a contradiction between cool and hot! i get Turkish roses but not Turkish roses!! i mean the sweetness from the Turkish roses are being covered here intensively! the sweetness is trying so hard to to show off but i believe the pepper is tuning it down! I'm not sure (at least now) that i can detect any iris but the roses are contradicted perfectly in here! It is very amusing, and very purple as i can see some couture and elegancy in here! It does fit both men and women but with bold personalities. Very amusing indeed, and i guess it is love.

I have to agree the previous reviews stated that La Fille Tour De Fer is like a combination of La Fille De Berlin + Sa Majeste La Rose , Opening felt a bit sharp with pink pepper detected with a hint of fruity zest (its pinkberry as stated in the site) the roses here are photorealistic & natural! and when it dries down the iris starts showing up in a subtle way (its powdery but not as La Fille De Berlin and reminds me of powder cosmetics) Overall, i give thumbs up as La Fille Tour De Fer scent truly reminds me of a paris

Beautiful rose. The initial phase is quite jammy, sweet rose absolute. Later emerging soft nuances of iris makes this a good all year round rose, as it softens the crisp corners of a rose a little bit, doesn't go to full powdery or lipstick territory, though. I don't really get anything pot-pourri about it, but it doesn't smell like fresh petals too, I mostly detect a narcotic scent of rose absolute. I also feel it is a bit more deep, fatale smelling than MFK's A la Rose or L'Eau. I find Tea Rose bolder and greener.

La Fille Tour de Fer is the sister of La Fille de Berlin. Maybe even her twin sister because I find them very similar. Everything I wrote about the Berliner, I could copy it here. "Iron Tower" perhaps and yet nothing metallic here. We are on an oriental syrup-style rose but without the sugar. It's magnificent, I love the eldest, I love the youngest too, obviously. However, I wonder about the usefulness of a perfume so close to an already existing perfume and from the same house what's more.

Gorgeous rose fragrance. Rose is often considered too oppressive and heavy, sadly given the moniker of an "old lady"fragrance, but this perfume paves a new way forward for this note. It's a beautiful, soapy rose and as it dries down, I get berries and dried rose petals. In my opinion the best rose fragrance that Lutens has, with La Fille de Berlin being the close second. Every rose lover should try this one because it's stunning.

The most photorealistic JAMMY RED ROSE ever 😍 this made me fall in LOVE with the house of Serge Lutens. The quality and integrity of the materials in this fragrance are simply just unmatched. It's just pure rose and iris. Executed so brilliantly even those who typically have an aversion to rose couldn't possibly. The blend is THAT SMOOTH. BURY ME IN LA FILLE DE FER 🌹 Rating: EASY 10/10

Gorgeous rose that is impossible to dislike, I think. A straightforward rose with a little green edge, no powder, no synthetics, no patchouli, but still has depth. I was surprised that I couldn't detect the classic Lutens iris, but maybe that's the green edge I'm detecting? If eau rose by diptyque or paris by chanel fell flat for you, this is the hotter older sister of these perfumes.

This is the most realistic rose scent I have ever encountered—I can’t stop smelling it! As someone who usually dislikes rose notes in perfumes, I was truly surprised by how captivating this fragrance is. It has completely changed my perspective on rose. It’s a shame that so few perfumes capture it this beautifully, but this one just might make you fall in love with roses, too.

Full bottle blind buy, as I was hunting for an easy wear rose-centric fragrance and this was heavily discounted on a gray market site. In the beginning I find it much like La Fille de Berlin, dark and damp and cold. But after a couple of hours it morphs into this sweet(ish), powdery, playful Iris-violet-y rose. Just lovely.

Delivered today- and Im in heaven! Feminine, not typical Serge Lutens which can be sharp and heavy, but this is smooth, and actually very sexy! As you walk in a flower-boutique, feel the flowers around you, and get aroused of sensuality.......pure LOVE! My husband says.....smooth!

Smell like an authentic organic rose essential oil from steam distilled chopped matured rose vines. Another spot-on soliflore creation from Serge Lutens. The Iron Tower Girl along with The Caged Tamer and Lemon Blossoms are my favourites from this house.

A sharper, cooler, more mature rose than LFDB. That being said, it's too similar to LFDB for anyone in my tax bracket to justify spending money on both of them. Sample both and pick the one you like more, I prefer this one.

This new addition to my Lutens collection finally arrived today. I was very hesitant to buy it because so many people are saying that it is very similar to Lutens' many other rose fragrances. But I had to have it, and you know what, NO REGERTS! I am not a hoarder, I am a collector, dammit. To me it is not at all similar to La Fille de Berlin. LFDB to me is a playful, girly, flirty take on Rose, it is as "Barbie" as it can possibly get with Lutens, it is also very sweet to my nose. La Fille Tour De Fer is a completely different rose, more mature, colder, no sweetness. It does have something that I always describe as Serge Lutens' signature sadness. To me this is not a happy and carefree Rose as LFDB. This house very often does not disclose all the notes, and this becomes a guessing game. The opening is almost tart, it definitely has some green notes. I don't know if I am imagining this because of the name, but I think I can smell something metallic in the opening, very light. In a couple of hours the iris comes in, without the dreaded carrot, thankfully, and the scent becomes softer and powdery. Overall after just one wear, I am in between "love" and "like" on this one. I am easy to please though, I like almost all fragrances with pronounced and well done, not synthetic smelling rose. It certainly is extremely well rounded, complete fragrance, top notch quality as always.

La Fille Tour de Fer: opens with perfumer's rose. Not very sweet but not sour either. Very appealing, with a powdery feel. The rose is present for a while, but gradually the scent sheds some of its layers and what is left is a sheer pink floral smell with a slight metallic tinge that can be felt in the roof of the mouth in a strange way. This base smell has a surprising masculine character to it underneath it all. The perfume smells expensive and it is very expensive, albeit among the cheapest of Serge Lutens from what I have seen. For me it is super long lasting, but not in its initial rose form, which dies off after a couple of hours. What persists for days is this floral mixture with the metallic tinge and the "gentleman's shadow". I like it, I was very surprised when I smelled it for the first time as I got it as a sample randomly. It seemed pretty simple and straightforward, and then it evolved in a way I had not exactly foreseen. I did not fall in love as such, and yet I keep going back. It is an interesting perfume, really. Not extraordinarily distinctive but it is complex in its simplicity.

A very rosey rose. Like the big, tall rose bushes with fuchsia coloured simple roses you see in the Nordic countries that take over the garden. Simple, big roses, wet from the summer rain and then the evening comes. Cool rain and the scent lingers.. or maybe you made a rose perfume as a child, picking petals from the aforementioned rose bush and then added water in your receptacle and waited, the scent of the rose and the stale water. This is strictly for someone who likes rose, I get no iris no pepper but perhaps the thick powderiness in the long drydown refers to iris. But I do get the full childhood experience of rose in the rain and it makes me nostalgic. Leaves a gorgeous scent on clothes - I applied la Fille T de F whilst wearing a bathrobe - a day later was taking a bath and spent half an hour trying to identify where this absolutely beautiful scent was coming from until I got out and realised it was the robe. This scent is a slower burn - the more you wear it the more you like it.

I was expecting a metallic rose feel from "The Girl in the Iron Tower" and that's exactly what I got. And for some reason it brought La Fille de Berlin (The Girl from Berlin) to mind. The rose is the same rose I think, the metallic quality, the slightly jammy feel... But this one has a bit more of a musky quality and feels more like makeup powder. But this isn't happy powder, it's more like a cold, pure white Japanese oshiroi type of powder! Have I ever smelled oshiroi? Of course not, but that's the powder image in my head. In short, a cold metallic powdery musky rose. People think "natural pink berry essence" is a juicy berry thing, but that's actually pink pepper berry. It's used for a peppery freshness and liveliness (that's been my experience) and too much of it creates a very sharp feel. In this one it's balanced. A groundbreaking scent? No, but I still liked it. Through and through a pure rose scent. Can't quite call it a rose bomb though, as it's rather on the fresher, petal/rose bush side than jammy syrupy rose. Out of the two, i would say that the Bulgarian rose is dominating the combination here - it has quite distinct characteristics compared to rose essential oils from other sources, anyone who has ever visited the town of Kazanlak knows that scent by heart. As usual for that SL line - great quality, great price - but is it a must buy? Hardly, if you are not crazy about pure rose scents. But if you are looking specifically for one, its a good purchase. As far as SL's own rose based scents, it cannot even touch Santal Majuscule imho - but it is more suited for warmer weather, as it is fresher and thinner scent.

This is definitely a rose fragrance. I believe it is female, not unisex. It is reminiscent of pot puri, BUT don’t let that put you off. It smells very expensive. It’s delicate but unusual at first smell. It took me 2 wears to love it. At first, I was disappointed. I can wear it alone but I prefer to layer it with Amber or other warmer rose scents to create something well rounded and very special. It’s a fantastic layering scent. I can smell it on myself but it does not give headaches, which is a fine line to walk for me. I recommend finding a 2-5 ml sample or sampling in store for at least a few days.

Based on wrist test it is a very peculiar yet charming floral. I would not say it is a rose until next day drydown that smells like a gentle rosy soap. It opens floral and watercolor. The meaty petals are soaked in water or tea, they feel buttery and lyrical. The iris must be in equal proportion to rose petals. The blend is very harmonious and feminine. Lasts 24 hour + leaving a very delicious trail on the skin. Lovely creation. A worthy sister of La Fille de Berlin. More transparent, the rose petals infused much longer yet still having so much to give.

This is a rose perfume that is in line with Lutens' previous La file de Berlin, but it is less sharp and less metallic. It is more smooth and a tiny tad more sweet from musks. I believe that you have to like rose soliflores to get in terms with wearing it all day as it doesn't evolve and stays centered around rose. It alludes to a cosmetic product eg. a face lotion. It is not loud or thick, as other Lutens offerings, so it is office friendly. @Algebraist: your review is spot on! In the first 10 minutes, I also get a high dose of PEA and citronellol.

This perfume is not afraid to be rose-forward, unlike many rose perfumes that seem to hide behind fruits, other florals, or gourmand notes. The is unpologetically rose, lacking any sweetness, but just under the rose is something desolate. Not at all smoky, but instead reminicent of cold grey ashes. I will say, my one complaint is that it doesn’t last long on me. Maybe an hour with any strength.

The rose in here is lovely and slightly jammy. However, in order to get to this rose, I first have to endure metallic and sharp passages that I quite dislike. I actually prefer to smell this fragrance on someone else because the metallic notes seem to be stronger from up close, while a beautiful rose surrounds its wearer already from the beginning.

This is fully, unapologetically rose forward. It reminds me of rose marmelade that is made in some parts of the world. It's pure, natural-smelling, concentrated rose but very sweet like it has honey in it. Longevity is great. You don't get much other than rose so this is only a safe blind buy if you are a rose fanatic.

I’m slightly underwhelmed by this minimalist Turkish rose perfume. It’s a lovely scent but not one of SL’s best. Both La Fille de Berlin and Sa Majeste La Rose have more depth and character, but this is certainly playful, girlish and mass appealing for a younger crowd or those just getting into Lutens scents.

Pretty floral scent centered around a nice dense Turkish rose. This rose is surrounded by delicate notes of pink pepper, orris and synthetic musk in its three stages. Very simple and elegant feminine leaning scent like most from this venerable niche brand that starts a bit heavy and softens over time. Enjoy!

Realistic fresh roses bouquet, but make it cold and austere in a classic Serge Lutens fashion. It opens like La Fille de Berlin + Red Roses by Joe Malone. Drydown comes quickly and turns it into a rose scented soap bar. If you're looking for both clean and realistic rose perfume, this is a good choice.

A rose soliflore that opens very peppery, but that blast subsides quickly. The rose has similar DNA as in LFdB, but is greener and more lemony. Easy enough to wear, but I was hoping for even a little iris.

I expected it to be more youthful, but I am pleasantly surprised! It doesn’t smell synthetic in the slightest and I’m enjoying the pepper note. A lovely winter floral.

A sharp, spicy rose in the opening. Drydown more soapy and a bit powdery. Different take compared to LFd.Berlin. Quite likeable.

Immediate rose bomb. Pure, lush rose. Pink pepper grounds it and gives it more body. Iris begins to poke in, but doesnt make its presence known yet. It's not a jammy, synthetic rose but a moist flower in the bush. So, it doesn't assault the nose, but it is definitely rose heavy. Iris slowly tiptoes in and makes this better than a soliflore. First, the fresh facets, then the powdery. The iris really elevates it. It's a bit boring, but solid. It's not groundbreaking. It's ok, but only because I like rose.

Serge Lutens can do no wrong by me. However, this is a very strong rose, it is PUNGENT. It is in your face. It is also very realistic, which I greatly appreciate. I generally dislike rose scents as they tend to smell artificial. The opening makes me think of a rose dipped into elderflower honey. It quickly dries down to a far more powdery and somewhat metallic rose, toned with a shadow of iris. It is very well done, but not my vibe at all. Still, I am happy I tried it.

Upon spray, I get a very strong rose water scent. Then I get some spices, probably the pink pepper, making the rose stronger. This is not a timid perfume. It’s an assertive rose without any softness and will be the diva on stage. Use a light hand when spraying—which is the case for all SL perfumes though.

Was excited to try when I saw the notes, and it turned out to be a total snoozefest... Melancholic spicy rose & vintage powdery iris combo, that turns a bit too old-fashioned and synthetic compared to La Fille de Berlin (or even to Sa Majeste la Rose, which came out in 2000).

The rose is a bit too pungent. Other than rose and a bit of a woody note, i smell nothing else. Very linear.

Imagine my internal shrieking when I took a routine trip to the Serge Lutens counter, trying to find an old perfume to buy, having just fallen back in love with Fleurs d'Oranger. I stop at the counter - I see this gorgeously-coloured new bottle - La Fille Tour de Fer. Imagine the light around it and the angel chorus singing. I look up the notes - iris and rose? Wow. I'm expecting to love it. Unfortunately, this doesn't work either on my skin or on the blotter. The pepper is *jarring* (and VERY strong on my skin compared to the blotter) and my skin devours the rose. On the blotter, the rose is essentially (as @algebraist so aptly said below) - a tea rose with a little bit of greenness. Not my thing - I absolutely loathe tea roses in perfumery. I don't get any iris at all - and as an iris lover, I'm disappointed. Who knows, as is usually the case for me with Uncle Serge, I usually dislike his perfumes at first sniff then come crawling back later, so maybe I'll just need to wait a few more months... Compared with La Fille de Berlin, I actually find this one much sharper. La Fille de Berlin has geranium + honey which, when combined on certain skins and certain weathers, does give me a bit of a metallic-blood vibe. This one is... unfortunate though.

This doesn't remind me of Fille de Berlin. That is a very smooth, rich and deep fragrance. This is very shrill by comparison. Not sure what is doing that, but I suspect an overdose of pink pepper. Strange, because I normally love pepper notes in perfume, so there has to be something else going on here. Whatever it is, it doesn't sit well with me. Also, the rose is nothing like that in Berlin, which is a dark, jammy rose. The rose here is much simpler by comparison, and a heck of a lot less interesting. Even the iris couldn't capture me in this fragrance. There are just too many fragrances out there, some of which I already have, that do this note profile much better for me to be happy with this. Glad I at least got to try it if for no other reason than to assuage my curiosity. For a Serge Luten's rose, I'll just stick to the incomparable Fille de Berlin.

There is an omnipresent sourness in this fragrance that is sharp and medicinal. It resembles a penicillin shot. It lingers forever. It’s dark and suffocating. Where is the rose??

Fille de Berlin is infinitely better. They have the same jammy rose, which is divine, but this creation is so heavily synthetic that it borders on offensive. Don't get me wrong. I love rose scents and I adore almost all Lutens creations, even the really unusual ones. This one is a scrubber all the way. Even with baking soda, it was far too strong and synthetic. It's not worksafe or allergy-friendly. That said, it is a sillage monster and lasts an absolute eternity - even longer on clothes - we're talking 24+hours and even a partial spray filling up a house in seconds. Not a fan. Skip this one. There are WAY better rose scents and better Lutens scents that won't cause humans and animals alike to run away whimpering.
