Périlleusement Vôtre

To the only oud I’ve ever loved: I’m sorry I absolutely hated you at first. The darkest crimson rose, covered in blood. Black wood and incense. Embers and ash. Intense. Not for the faint of heart. Makes a statement from across the room. Sometimes you need a perfume that feels like a pleasant jolt to the senses.

A gorgeous mature oud. Feels raw and sophisticated. Very high quality, very dark in an inspiring way. Very simple and minimal on purpose. I really enjoy it, it may seem unusual but it has a Lutens touch that makes it stand out.

This is my first Serge Lutens, happy to use this in Winter. When I first to spray on body as usual and made me dizzy as too strong, but the smell become great after few hours. Love it.

I recently got a 1 ml official sample of Périlleusement Vôtre . To my nose, it sits squarely within one of the classic rose-oud archetypes, following a structure that has become instantly recognizable over the past decade. The composition is remarkably direct. A dry, non-dewy rose accord takes center stage, supported by a slightly smaller proportion of equally dry oud. There is very little oriental ornamentation around it. It goes straight to the point. Among the fragrances I have tried, the closest comparison is undoubtedly Rose d'Arabie by Armani. Their overall structure is remarkably similar. The main distinction, to my nose, lies in the balance: Armani lets the rose take the lead, while Périlleusement Vôtre shifts the emphasis slightly toward the oud. If there had ever been a hypothetical Rose d'Arabie Pour Homme , this is probably how I would imagine it. Some may find this style clichéd, and I can understand why. Yet there is something to be said for this restraint. Achieving this texture while keeping the composition relatively clean and approachable is not as easy as it sounds. Along with Rose d'Arabie , this is one of the more versatile interpretations of the genre, although "versatile" should still be understood in relative terms. The comparison also explains why some other rose-oud fragrances work less well for me. Black Aoud by Montale suffers from poor material quality, while The Moon by Frederic Malle overloads the structure with animalic, woody, and patchouli facets. It doesn't try to reinvent the genre, and perhaps that's precisely its strength and well-executed. Rating: 7.5/10

A little joke on the part of Uncle Serge: a delicately poised rose oud without a hint of tastelessness. And, while waiting for the signature Serge shoe to drop, the girl brings in a little bouquet of violets and places it silently on the table. What is this new space we have found, behind all things? Does anyone else know we are here?

‘Perilously Yours’ from Serge Lutens is one of the very rare slight misfires from this amazing line. It is not a bad fragrance. It just offers nothing new and repeats what has been done so many times before so successfully. The main notes I can detect (all of very high quality) is rose, oud, and cedar. Also lurking in the background is a mentholated musk like note I am not fully able to discern but could be eucalyptus . The scent is sophisticated and sleek and blended well but has a familiar smell. The brands rationale is that in times of peril we reach for something familiar and comforting. But surely, there could have been some innovations to the Rose Oud combination that is the mainstay of Oriental perfumery these days. The unisex scent has moderate sillage and good longevity. Only for die hard Lutens fans. Enjoy!

"Perilously Yours" must be more Serge word games. There isn't anything perilous about this perfume. It's a safe, non-confrontational, smooth, elegant, oud-rose-leather perfume typical of a thousand-and-one that came before it. That said, it's well put together, but not in such a way that makes Lutens's template derivation stand out from the crowd. You'd buy this because you're a strict Lutens devotee, and you're already missing an oud-rose-leather in your collection, otherwise there are many options out there that achieve exactly the same thing, at pretty much the same quality, for significantly less money.

Opulent yet uplifting. Initial blast may be jarring, but it becomes so smooth. Dry down is to die for. 9/10 At the least (I haven't owned it very long so it will most likely grow on me). Unisex or slightly feminine leaning. I haven't smelled many rose+ouds so idk if this smells like all the rest. The only thing this reminds me of is Portrait of a Lady, but less razzberry. Maybe the rose that is used is similar. Still has a bit of a fruity effervescence, but not as much and maybe not as, hmmm, juicy/jammy/sweet as POAL? I would say it's "darker" than POAL too, maybe due to more woodiness. It may also be more straightforward and less dense/tedious than POAL. I wasn't able to really wear POAL because it was a bit too feminine for me even though I like other feminine leaning Frederic Malle soliflores. I love both houses and wear them 75% of the time. I feel like Malle has to maintain a certain level/standard of beauty and Serge does whatever the hell he wants? Idk. Anyways, unlike most SL, this one actually reminds me of something I've smelled before. And since idk how to pronounce it, so we'll just call it Portrait of a Dude. I think it breathes.

Destiny sometimes has a way of playing tricks on us by putting us in extreme situations. Must we then disown the past which has shaped us? Oud and rose combine to give us their answer. "Despite the risks, we stand at the brink of vertigo on the edge of a cliff weathered by salt water, entrusting our fate to what awaits us. Whether we tread on dangerous ground or lose sight of the way, rose stays true to itself and oud overpowers all else!" Serge Lutens

It's like Oud Essentiel with better ingredients. The oud accord is exactly the same ashy, incensey affair, with the rose here being slightly more pronounced. I like them both, but this smells more expensive and possibly slightly more like real oud, although to be honest it doesn't seem to contain any real oud to my nose.

It starts with a big rose-oud punch but fades away quite fast. It is perfectly wearable in any situation but unoriginal, boring and unnecessary. However, I'm not too disappointed as this is what I've come to expect from Lutens in the last ten or so years.

I'm not a fragrance expert by any stretch of the imagination, but there could also be honey, cinnamon, fruit and coffee as well as the oud and rose. Mean old Uncle Serge not very much help with the fragrance notes.
