Renard Constrictor

The Fox Constrictor is a mysterious and interestingly constructed Floriental scent from the Serge Lutens line. However it is also one of the lesser offerings in the very exclusive Selection D’Or. The perfume opens with notes of pine and menthol and starts transitioning to a white floral heart comprised of mainly gardenia and jasmine. The perfume settles on a bed of styrax resin and synthetic musk. The feminine leaning scent has moderate to strong projection and good longevity and gives the feeling of a femme fatale type of person who is quite sinister behind a lovely exterior. Enjoy!

Gardenia extract throughout, styrax and musk sits underneath and smooth pine lifts it a bit. Something very visceral about this, I can't explain it but it really touches you, how a perfume should. If you like to not only smell your perfume but feel it as well this line is for you.

Renard Constrictor is mainly a grape-y, indolic jasmine on my skin. During the opening, the grape aspect is more juicy and vivid, while the indole gives out a mentholated aroma. But overall, the fragrance is quite restrained: the grape aspect doesn't make me think of toothache-inducing fruity hard candy; the indole is nowhere near in A La Nuit or even La Religieuse, and Renard Constrictor feels warmer in tone than the former two. With time, the redolence of jasmine becomes drier in texture, and gives out a dried fruit/dried fruit peel feeling. A powdery musk also emerges from underneath. It's not the dirty, animalic kind, but not exactly laundry-like, either. Together with the gentle sweetness of jasmine, this fluffy floral musk makes a comforting, warm skin scent, reminiscent of the texture of animal fur. The sillage of Renard Constrictor is quite close to skin, and the longevity is around 8 hours. Being the fourth fragrance in the house featuring prominent jasmine, Renard Constrictor is much less indolic than the glorious A La Nuit, warmer than La Religieuse. As for Sarrasins, the unctuous musk and voluptuous jasmine engage in a mysterious battle, while in Renard Constrictor, the gentle musk is more like a supporting role to an equally cute jasmine. I thoroughly enjoyed Renard Constrictor, especially its mentholated indole, albeit rather mild, and its tender, cozy musk. But as pleasant as it is, I'd still hesitate to recommend it, simply because there are so many great jasmine fragrances on the market, and most are within a much more reasonable price range.

THIS IS THE ONLY REVIEW Worth Reading, the more precise and realistic. I read and watched Different reviews and NO ONE nailed It, including Persolaise in his video (usually I do not trust video-reviewers, and this Is something that proves I am right not to 😅) The perfume Is nice, but nothing special, It smells quite Synthetic, with LOADS of Cashmerean (Dans Tes bras, L'Orpheline), White florals (Jasmin, neither gardenia nor tuberose), Civet in omeopatic doses, so It doesn't stand out at all. This perfume Is definitely not a "Constrictor", Is very close to skin with moderate sillage, despite the Cashmerean overdose, it Is almost identical to Ædes de Venustas' Palissandre d'Or., so if you love It, you can stick to It. I am glad I got Renard Constrictor as a swap, because its price Is definitely a joke! 👍🏻😉

The Fox Cage is an odd one. Really odd. Don’t let the name fool you either; there is nothing foxy, nothing wild, and nothing caged. This fox, if there is one, is very domesticated. After some very brief green, resinous, sour, effervescence immediately upon application, the opening smells like cherry Coca-Cola, or a modified Dr. Pepper, or something like that. Sweet and caramel like, baking spices, something a touch fruity, but with the levity, lift, and effervescence of a popular dark soda. The dry down goes straight to an evergreen sap note and a very gentle styrax and cashmeran base that simply smells of a very old, very soft, very worn leather that is very much classic-cologne-like in its presentation. This is a head-scratcher, but not really in a good way. “Wth” was the often repeated phrase today. Firm pass.

Very difficult to describe with no notes to go on, but this is a breathy, over-ripe fruit and white floral scent. Gelatinous and sweet, it smells like you took a bunch of jasmine flowers and peeled red grapes to a chopping board, sliced them into a viscous homogenate, and let it sit in the sun until just before it all starts to rot, then took a whiff. It's not indolic per se, but there is grape, banana peel, petals and something warm and wet and sweet in the fragrance. Caught in the air, it's better than smelled straight off the skin. While I appreciate that it's different, Serge Lutens has far better fruit or jasmine (or fruity jasmine) perfumes than this. It's not unpleasant, but not particularly enjoyable either. I'm really stumped by it and not sure what to make of it, but I can see how its oddness and sky-high price make it an unlikely proposal for most people. Of the super-exclusive Section D'Or, the rose one (Cracheuse de Flammes) remains the only one that has my attention, personally.

A plush white floral that’s mainly orange blossom over a lactonic tuberose that wears tastefully light, yet is spun full-bodied and cozy through a nifty use of resins. There’s a throwback elegance to it — mostly because it’s not blaring off the skin — but it’s still hoofing it down hackneyed paths. Pleasant and surprisingly subtle, but wholly unoriginal and redundant. It smells more like an extravagant lotion than a perfume. Friendly enough, but not worth a fraction of the asking price and not even remotely on par with past Serge releases.

I actually like this perfume enough to drop $910A on it, although I'm hoping someone in the USA or UK can steer me where to find it cheaper! Please PM me...... :) A real compliment getter!

Based on the reviews here, this sounds like it shares a lot of similarities with tubereuse criminelle and sarrasins. Is that true? I sure hope so, as I love both of the latter.
