Tarab

Serge Lutens entered the Rose Oud market very late but with an interesting variation on the theme that adds a delightful French sophistry to the whole affair. The scent opens with notes of candied fruits and pine needles. The heart is the lovely Turkish rose and Cambodian Oud. The perfume dries into a lovely base of cypriol, cedar and musk. The perfume is not at all unique but it is precisely and expertly constructed like most Lutens offerings. It also does not overwhelm like many Rose Ouds out there but gently lifts you to a trance like dance state of mind like its name. The unisex scent has moderate sillage and very good longevity. Familiar yet beautiful. Enjoy!

OhOk Why do you give review without trying a perfume? You are misleading people.

I find Tarab very beautiful, with an obvious waft of real oud pushing out of the perfume alongside rose. If you've smelled a natural rose-oud before, this is very much like all of those, though perhaps is more refined, chic, "urban" for want of a better term. It really lands within mere inches of Guerlain's Oud Essentiel to my nose - if you smell them both see if you think they're similar. The use of Cambodian (rather than Hindi) oud results in a perfume which is far less fecal and animalic than some other hardcore ouds. Here, the oud has its typical "glowing dark" woody effect, with notes of peat, earth and embers. There is a faint tinge of dry fruit just gumming up the edges of the scent, but nothing obvious or distinct. This isn't Camel by Zoologist. Beautiful, but not terribly different from many other similar perfumes despite its high price tag, I do find Tarab has pretty good longevity. If you like ouds more on the clean side, you can consider this, but I really do recommend saving your wallet (relatively speaking) and going for the aforementioned Guerlain if it's to your taste. I personally think that, while I don't love SUPER fecal oud, I do like a bit more funk and musk than is present here.

Rose / Oud smoky again. Didn’t he do that already. I have La Couche du Diable And Baptism de Feu From Serge Lutens I already have...Boy Toy by Moschino And Noir de Noir by Tom Ford Both are my fave for Rose / Oud fragrance for me. But enough is enough. !!! I don’t know about you but The fascination with Oud is now boring. !!! I would hope Serge Lutens would Do something daring and unique. Yes ... La Couche du Diable . Is Daring ! I fear it was too Goth or bizarre to really be The next hot thing. Serge Lutens is my favorite niche fragrance house But at times It feels stuck in a rut And can’t get out. May I recommend Rum ... Champagne ... and an Old Vine Zinfandel ! As a starting point

This is a little disappointing, uncle Serge... Patch-drenched rose with rubbery-bouncy black agar -- this may have been revolutionary 10ish years ago, why jump in on a dead fad this late? Is this being ironic or something? As soon as the scent settled I legit had to check the vial to see I had the right sample... MKF / Killian / Armani Prive variants of this trope work just as well, and worked about 8 years ago. This is a real head scratcher...
