Framboise Noire

I ordered a sample of the Framboise Noire fragrance online. 5ml bottle samples cost £5, which I suspect is a bit steep, but given that just one spray lasts a while and the portability of the tiny lil glass tube, well, maybe £5 is just about do-able. Framboise Noire is from the ‘Fruit‘ category of Shay and Blue fragrances, which is composed of: Top Note – Rare black raspberry with mixed forest berries for a hit of red fruit. Heart Note – A touch of chic iris pallida to seduce and enchant. Base Note – White oud and black woods underpin the composition for a darkly noir finish. Described as “like a rich, dark wine...Rounded, rich fruit underpinned with sensual black woods”. Added to that; “The blackness of night”. Yep. Sold. The perfume really does smell dark and sensuous, I would add to that ‘glamorous’ and ‘sexy as hell’. You don’t usually expect raspberries to smell sexy, but when combined with oud and woods, well, that’s a killer combo. Interestingly, when I first smelled this, I thought it smelled old and dusty, like an abandoned castle buried deep in a forest. I sampled it again the following day and only then did I appreciate the berries. Like a fine wine, you have to swirl this fragrance around a couple of times. Deep and mysterious. I love it. To note: This is the perfume that Lady Gaga's 'Fame' wants to be.

Mhhm, this is fruity oud at its best! I'm not the biggest fan of oud, sometimes it's just too pungent and bitter or too masculine for my nose, but at other times, when it's combined with sweet notes, I really like it. That is the case here. The berries in Framboise Noire are so juicy and ripe, but still fresh. Especially the raspberry note is lovely. Together with the woody, oily, slightly medical oud note it smells so balmy and lush. This is a warm and dark fruity scent, kind of sexy even. Some say Framboise Noire smells similar to Aquolina Black Sugar, but I don't really think so. FN is more oudy, more natural and fresher, while BS is more smoky, sweeter and heavier. I like both and it wouldn't be redundant to have both. This is not something I'm in the mood for every day, but to be honest I regret a little that I didn't buy a small bottle of FN when Shay & Blue was on sale in a department store here. Well, I guess it's impossible to get every perfume I like.

I think I was hoping Guerlains LBD was going to be a little like this. The opening is sweet and very fruity. Sweet but natural smelling raspberry along with some other sweet natural juicy fruits. I think its the touch of sour that achieves this. A slightly sour Bonne Maman rasperry compote. Its not syrupy sweet like Guerlains LBD which ruined it for me. There might be oud in this but its not heavy duty. Its not all moisture sucking up and raspy if you know what I mean lol It is more evident on the dry down along with the other wood notes. The iris and musk are revealed in the dry down but very softly. After an hour its all about natural smelling raspberries and wood notes. The oud is not too strong and it is a perfectly unisex fragrance. A lovely fragrance and if you like a natural smelling, not over sweet, fruity wood fragrance then well worth checking it out. If I dont moisturise my skin well then the longevity and sillage are not great.

I had been wanting to test this one and had the pleasure of receiving a 30 ml decant from another member. The second I took the cap off and smelled this, I fell in love. It starts off as a black licorice scent on me. I love black licorice so it didn't bother me and it quickly dissipates. Once it dries down it is it is this musky woody smokey iris fragrance with the slightest berry hint. I don't smell the berry except every now and then it appears for a split second and then disappears again. I really love this and although it may be better suited as a cold weather fragrance, it still worked on a hot humid rainy day like today. Longevity : 8 hours Sillage: a little past arm's length Potency: She is strong. You don't need much Unisex: yes but I think it smells nicer on a woman. However, my hubby tried it and it smelled nice on him. Recommend: I want to say no so I can be the only one wearing it but the truth is, yes...yes...yes!!!

Framboise Noir is excellent. I absolutely love the raspberry note as well as all of the other berries interplaying in this amazing fragrance. The oud is blended in such a way as to not overpower which I appreciate immensely. The "dark wood" notes are more apparent to me than oud, which I also appreciate. There is a licorice vibe to this fragrance and that aspect of FN reminds me just slightly of Vikt by Slumberhouse, although the berry notes which remain throughout as the main player are definitely not like Vikt. Framboise Noir is a fragrance that has brought me many complements from people when I wear it. I don't wear fragrances for compliments, I wear them for me, but it still merits mentioning that people seem to like the way this fragrance smells when I wear it as much as I do. This is a 10/10 for me. Highest recommendation.

Oooh this is smoldering! But you literally need to have a sweet tooth to wear it. :) On my skin, this fragrance fills the room with only two sprays and lasts around 12 hours. I get sticky sweet raspberries cooked in dark berry compote in a cedarwood pot. By no means is this concoction juicy or fresh. Fruity, syrupy, and woody with a hint of musk - I get no iris or oud. It’s fairly linear and consistently fruity/woody/musky all throughout its lifespan. It distantly reminds me of EU Apparition. It’s just so dark, sexy, and fun. This is absolutely divine to me!

This is really gorgeous! I love a good raspberry scent that ACTUALLY smells like raspberries and not some nondescript red berry scent. This one does a great job. But more, it is a fantastic oud-berry blend that I have never really experienced before. Not like this. It's fresh and dark all at the same time . . . just as the name says. And highly addictive. I'm sniffing my arm nonstop. This will likely be going on my want list after another couple of wears.

This stuff makes me happy. I clearly smell the mix of berries - the wood adds a slight hint of darkness to the base. I feel that there is something slightly masculine to the fragrance - though no problem for a female to pull it off. Bottom line - it makes me happy and it smells great. Glad to have stumbled upon this! I see a lot of winter votes - but I think this could easily be worn in the summer also. 6/10

Shay and Blue my new favourite house. I just popped into the London store to buy Blood Oranges but came out with this instead! Oh this is to die for, no really. Raspberries, berries, just a hint of iris, and smokey dark woods with a hint of oud. It’s like a fine red wine, so sophisticated. I think suitable for all year round, evenings, lasts a while too. I can’t wait to buy more from S&B!!

I find this to have a lovely smoky smell to it as well as the raspberry and wood. I always rush to put it on & wear it summer and now in the colder months. It doesn't seem to last as long in summer. I would like a body lotion in this but don't know id there is one. My skin is dry & does seem to accept sweet perfume without it being over powering. Fantastic!

Aromatic woods, juicy berries, fragrant iris, gentle comforting musk, all blended perfectly, what's not to like? I think it is suitable all-year-round and can work well as a summer fragrance. Easily my favourite from S&B. Good longevity and masculine-leaning, this is the winner from the house for me. I'm surprised more people aren't talking about it!

Absolutely gorgeous, tart raspberries, dark berries, a touch of iris beautifully blended with dark woods and musk, I dont really get oud, which is fine. This smells like a walk through the Black Forest in autumn!! There’s boozy notes in there too, like a fine red wine. Framboise Noir is probably my favorite S&B or maybe tied with Black Tulip.

Today it was a test day! Definitely I've put Black sugar on one arm and this one on another my husband smelled and tought be the same... how I supposed would be!! It is very very similar!! Shay and Blue is a bit little better, though.

Very unique and pretty scent. Its a Dark woody and oudy fragrance with hint of sweet and lots of dark Berry, smells high quality and elegant. Sadly it's not long lasting enough, but I prefer beautiful scent more than performance.

Blind bought a sample from ScentSplit because I love Aquolina Black Sugar and of course it has been discontinued. This isn't as sweet, but I sprayed them on each arm and they smell very similar. Love it, I love the smokiness.

The berry notes (Raspberry, Red, and Wild) are "poppin" in this fragrance. If you are into gourmand fragrances, this is a must fragrance to add to your collection.

Just received my sample from Scent Split... I am in love... cannot wait to purchase a full 100 ML bottle!

Dunno what happened to my review of this? odd. Maybe I forgot to hit submit.... ha ha. I got to test this one a few months ago, and love at first sniff. It was a little much for me when I tested - being it was quite hot and still summer. But now that it is fall --- me wants! It is a wonderful scent! I love the black raspberry note its quite intense at first and does leave about half way through giving way to a lovely smooth woody blend. It reads like sweet black raspberry meets Jo Malone Bergamot & Oud. It's smooth and nice. Not the same scent - just similarities. Love this scent! :) Extremely unisex.

Salt Caramel by the same house didn't leave me too stoked, but I find this to be a more pleasant offering. As "jenvi" said, the jelly skull candy that is half black (salmiac) and half pink (raspberry) is a pretty spot on description for this fragrance. Oud tends to disagree with me sometimes, leaving me nauseated more often than not, but in this particular case it is subdued. Certainly pleasing. EDIT: If you like this one but want to check out a cheaper alternative, try Aquolina Black Sugar!

Remember black currant and liquirice sweets? This scent reminds me of them so much! Finally a nice berry scent without that awful BO aroma that you sometime get with blackberries/ currants. I've tried various niche currant scents but this tops them all for me. It's a musky, fruity, woody scent that I really, really like! It's a spring/summer scent for me, not massive silage wise but I don't care, fab!

Raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, cranberries and... OUD WOOD?? I was skeptical that these could make a good mashup and was pleasantly surprised to be so very wrong on my assumption. The oud wood (agarwood) is definitely the star player here, no doubt about it. It turns what could have been an overly sweet berry mix into glass of fine red wine, aged to perfection.

It's more woody than fruity with a warm yet light oud lingering in the background. It's not as feminine as I thought it would be. On my skin it smells like a resinous scent with woods and musk in second plane. The fruits are not obvious. It's an intriguing perfume, not the type that I like, but still something to check out. It has the vibe of middle eastern perfumes.

Well, for a girlfriend of mine this scent was like an instant crush! And I liked this fragrance on her as well. I got from her a sample of this fragrance and give it a couple of wears. And I fall in love with those three berry notes in combination with oud and other dark woods. So well blended! Like an accord, I was looking for a long time!

Really enjoy this one, on me I can smell the berries with the woods, throughout.

Beautiful woody smell, definitely worth checking out

Framboise Noire, Black Raspberry, indeed starts off with raspberries (duh!) and also cranberries, spicy ones, providing a sharper vibe to the blend. It's both sweet and tart at the same time. Having worked in clubs/bars as a school job, it reminded me of grenadine very quickly. That thick and viscous red syrup that is often used at the bottom of drinks. While the recipe is changed some times, it's made with pomegranate, raspberries, strawberries, sugar for the sweeter side and currant and lemon for the bitter part. And this is what I get out of Framboise Noire in the opening phase. Those sweet and sour berries are covered by a good whiff of smoke, making them turn to a dark shade of red and purple. They are laying on a base of black woods that have absorbed the smell of those wild fruits. Once the opening spray has settled down and that my nose gets used to the scent (The perception of others around me could be different) depending of your point of view either the “wow factor” or the part that is too loud and sticky sweet tones down a lot and the fragrance becomes a lot more “wearable”. We keep the tainted berries vibe but it is much more subdued and not nearly as rich. It is now covered by a brighter and almost powdery musk. At this moment, you are no longer in the middle of this gloomy, kind of Gothic field of raspberries and cranberries, submerged by its aroma. You've left a minute ago, walking your way through the night, but a breeze still carries its smell to your nose.

Rather thin, I'd say. You would expect something underneath the berries but I get nothing at all, just this tangy sweet topnote that I really only sense when I sniff it directly. I know it's an eau de toilette, and sprayed it amply on my clothes, hair, wrists, but honestly it's just as though I used a particularly yummy shampoo.

This is nice but it leans more masculine & earthy rather than sweet & oudy which is what I expected from the notes. The fruits sweeten the overall composition slightly but this is wood heavy. It's nice but I much prefer their Black Tulip & Nashwa!

Just arrived - 4th Shay and Blue. I wanted a nice berry/raspberry. Despite the marketing, reviews and hype this is the second purchase I find is completely exaggerated by I'm guessing an easily pleased customer. It has a somewhat raspberry opening that after a minute develops into a woody base with musk the Raspberry/berry is a mere virtually almost undetectable waft as a skin scent. I poured it on - a bout a dozen sprays on my arm which improved the berry presence and after half an hour it moves probably closer to the note description but its a light scent. I suspect there is aIso iso E in this but haven't checked which may explain the way it sometimes hides and sometimes is more prominent. WOW - it looks like you have to empty the bottle to get close to the berries. The base is virtually the same (which is more prominent) as Salt Caramel by these guys which is a much better scent though suffers the same very poor performance so I would say this is low percentage oil/quality and works more as an EDT or even EDC. Ignore the reviews here in that there is no particular prominence from Oud, or incense - just spicy woods rounding it out and giving depth. This effectively is a subtle scent probably suited for ladies office or casual wear though it is easily wearable by the gents. MRSG34 here has a description that also works for me with the liquorice as in it smells like a subtle liquorice all sort. I find it ironic that one review found this better that Salt Caramel - i'm feeling most people here are just fans of Berry Scents - I find at least Salt Caramel to be wht it claims with out having to pour the bottle all over you. Sadly another regrettable purchase and after Kings Woods abysmal let down - this is more about the marketing I think than the fact they are bad scents. I won't be purchasing another Shay & Blue product :(

I was very looking forward to this release. I like the house conceptually and I really like the smell of real berries. I talked to some members and ordered a sample once it became available to me. In my head I imagined it to be foresty, evergreen, unsweetened or even tart berry scent with a dark oud lurking in the background. Like The Body Shop Blueberry but noir version, or the air of Pacific Northwest in winter. Then I read reviews while I was waiting on my sample. My heart sank. I desperately hoped that Framboise Noir wouldn't smell like what's been described: jammy, sweet, candy-like, no freshness, sticky. These words made me think of Blackberry Vanilla Musk by Trish McEvoy, a perfume I swapped the same day I received it for something worth much less. And Framboise Noir turns out to be exactly like the reviews. Its sticky sweetness is the same as that of Blackberry Vanilla Musk. It's a very, very syrupy, artificial and dense type of sweetness. There's no leaf or tree branches here. At the beginning the sweetness is less obvious because of the large shot of oud but as it dries down oud vanishes and so does my desire to test further. It's just too sweet for my taste. I would say this is better done than Trish McEvoy though and is cheaper. So if you like that you gotta try this one. @butterbean I think your review was on the new release page instead of this. I could be wrong but I remember on there it got lots of balloons!!

On my skin, I only get the berries in the initial blast - they are bright and crisp, not sweet (which is to my liking). Unfortunately in the dry down the berry notes disappear and the powdery iris kicks in, and where this stays. I get no Musk, Oud, or woody notes at all. Linear is fine, and to be expected from this house, but this one is not for me. Of all the S&B scents I have tried so far, this one is the most synthetic and the only one to kick in headache stimuli. It’s also the one with the most longevity in formulation (so if you like the scent, you are quite lucky!).

Sniffing the sprayer reminded me of Acqua e Zucchero. Upon spraying I felt I was wearing Jubilation XXV because of the oud and incense. Honestly I did not like the combo, I feel the sugarly note does not mix well with oud giving it a very messy feel. And it's not light or airy either its actually very thick and syrupy. It's also more feminine than masculine so that doesn't encourage me either. It's not bad, it just not pleasant or something that will make people say wow!

When we submit a review, we agree to tell the truth, and give our honest opinion of a fragrance. I admit I never cared for oud in anything, but I thought the berries would blend better with it, making it more masculine. But Framboise Noire reminds me of 24 Gold, which I cannot tolerate. Too much oud! I will NEVER understand this craze for oud in everything. I must admit I can see why some find Framboise Noire appealing, but not me. Appreciated, but only tolerated.

Well, I can't say it fits the brand's description. It's described as giving a dark, winey impression, but no. First I smell nice, jammy berries and the "dark woody notes." Then OUD. (All caps deliberate.) For hours all that remains are oud and vague sweetness to remind me that berries were once there.

This one to me is in every way just straight up liquorice, unexpected and unpleasant

I've come to the conclusion that I can't wear any scent that has iris in it. My body chemistry latches onto that note, and it's the only thing I end up smelling. With that being said though, I didn't like this scent from the get go. The first spray smelled overwhelmingly like "old people" smell, and then a super synthetic, fake raspberry scent permeated on top of it. I tried waiting a bit for it to dry down, but even after that, all I could smell was very heavy iris, and that fake berry scent. All in all, this was just an immediate no for me, and it ended up being a scrubber.

I find it mesmerising. Hardly get any berries, even at the very beginning, and of course it is two completely different scents depending on whether i spray skin or hair and clothing. I tend to do both now, because the blend is even more enjoyable. The main presence for me is warm and incense-like. Not sweet, although there is a hint of sweetness. Lasts beautifully. The oud/dark wood is gently pervasive, but not heavy. And there is nothing cloying. I have tried a couple of other Shay and Blue scents. The Blood Orange (no staying power) and Black Tulip (sickly), but this Framboise is just... absorbing. There are 8 well loved bottles on my perfume shelf, but this is the only one I want to wear for weeks at a time. Though sometimes i start the day with a greener lift (Premier Figuier, then layer Framboise Noire over it in the afternoon. It is such a reassuring, unusual, satisfying, layered scent for me. One sniff just isn’t enough. I want to add more, just to enjoy it settle gently into unexpected yet familiar comfort.

This one is weird. Up close on my wrist, it's a pleasant woody berry that I do not dislike at all. It's got that deep sweetness that fresh berries have that is not sugary. It's got some planty woods, almost leafy or mossy. Edging on the texture of pine but not pine. Really like it. But when I'm not smelling my wrist, literally the only thing that projects is what I am assuming is oud. It's this dusty, unpleasant cloud around me that smells like patchouli old lady. I don't really understand. That note does not appear at all when I smell my wrist. But it's all I smell when I move my wrist away. It's so unpleasant. It smells musty.

After striking out with a number of S&Bs, this one fared best. I didn't like this in summer but it works nicely in winter. A deep raspberry with an oud woodiness bite for spiciness. The berry is fruity but not syrupy. It's really lovely but it's making me think I don't like berriers as much I think I do- they go very tart on me. Maybe I just need something a little sweeter. I have combined it with Salt Caramel to try to add some sweetness but it doesn't work like I thought and instead just gets a little muddled and very sweet wood and the fruit gets lost. Strongest S&B I've tried and lasts the whole day.

This definitely leans more masculine to me with the musk and Woody notes. The combination of berries and oud is odd, and not well-blended. I cannot wear it and gave it to my husband but he hated it more than I did, saying it smells like melted gummy bears and is too cloying and sweet. At least it was bought on charity auction on EBay and helped someone out. On second thought this is really similar to Jo Malone’s Pomegranate Noir which came out in 2005, but that one is more subtly blended with better judgment in terms of blending of notes.

What was I thinking? This is absolutely gorgeous! The first time I tried this - it was in the bargain bin at a department store - I smelt it and thought, "no way, too full on, too much oud, too much stink, even for me". I really regret that decision now. I have since forayed into darker, deeper scents, and this attracts me. It's not too much - in fact it is really fruity and juicy. I love it. The essence of raspberries mixed with the epitome of Arab perfumery - the oud.

Really nice offering by Shay & Blue. I get a Jubilation XXV man vintage (not the new version which sucks) vibe from this, coming from the oud and berry combo. However, this is a little more fruity and sweet than Jubilation. Also i get a kind of syrupy tone, but not overly done which is good. You can smell the oud in this fragrance but is not a fetid kind of an oud. I actually prefer this fragrance to my Jubilation magnetic cap bottle. Definitely made it to my wishlist !

This is just amazing. Jumped straight in with a 100ml bottle after reading the notes and reviews. Beautiful berries straight from the first spray and this lasts a long time on my skin. 6-8 hours later scent stays close to the skin but still get the odd whiff of the berries and the falling in love starts all over again. Need another bottle as a back up.

Blind bought, and happily returned: another very peculiar scent from this brand that I did not like, It's spicy framboise with some green/woody background. Interesting, but no thank you. Comparing this to BlackSugar, the Aquolina scent is more sweet and this is fresher and muskier. As always for this brand sillage and longevity are VERY low.

To me this is all wood with a small side of fruit. Not your designer fruity/floral. I almost get an alcohol(rubbing)and Band-Aid smell. Not the worst perfume I have ever smelled but this is a pass.

Smells to me like plum japonais but much less elegant, with fewer florals and heavier more myrrhy base notes. Not something I’ll be wearing.

just okay. i feel like the berries don't mesh well enough into the wood notes- they smell very separated to me.

I got a box of five S&B perfumes , this the one i liked snd kept buying over and ober again

I think this really lovely. A pop of summer brightness for this cold winter days.

Starts off like a berry pie, ends like rainbow popcorn.
