Tonka Angelica

Oh this is a perfect sexy soft cozy cashmere sweater scent for me, I adore it!

This one is odd. From the cap it’s heliotrope forward with some warm complexity from the tonka presumably. But when I sprayed it on my skin the Angelica turned into the most intense celery veggie blast that wouldn’t be ignored or blend in. It does mellow out after about 30 mins but it’s odd and sticks around just less crazy. I’ll have to retry to be sure it’s not just a fluke, but I thought this would be more of a well blended Angelica and tonka. Maybe it’s just me. Anyway I tried it on my sweater to see if it was indeed just me, and the Angelica chills out a bit so I think it’s my pH or whatever. Overall I get what they were going for and I was here for it, but on my skin it goes weird and so I’ll need to be in the right mood for it. Glad I just have a travel size.

A gourmand or not a gourmand. Very nice. It is one of the most elegant and refined smelling gourmand type fragrances I've tested. The angelica lifts and brightens the gourmand sweet tonka bean. There is refinement from the delicately fruity osmanthus. I guess it is a touch milky. Low fat milk. Not heavy and dangerous for your arteries. The tonka is evident but I'd say it is well balanced with the floral notes. Wearing this you become a cuddle magnetic. Warm, inviting yet not perfumey. It's hard to detect unless you come in very close. Pleasant on my vegetarian skin in an 18 degree room. I guess it's much more potent in heat.

This is reallllllllllllllllllllly nice. It's somehow light but smoky at the same time. A little fresh, but also I get a touch of vanilla (I am not a vanilla fan but here it's layered and soft). This feels SO fall coded. It evokes the feeling of a really warm, perfect fall day with the deep blue skies, no clouds, and red/golden leaves everywhere. This is the scent to wear to a pumpkin patch. 🎃

Normally, these are notes that I love. However, this mix is not one that I think would garner a larger bottle. I have a travel size and that will suit me just fine. To me it smells of incense and wood. Slight powderiness due to the heliotrope, but none of that rich tonka bean. To me, it smells like wearing my grandfather's wool sweater. fresh from the cedar closet with traces of his cologne worn into the fibers. It does not remind me of Milk. Where Milk is sweet, this is woodier and more resinous. I get a bit of a chai tea vibe.

I don’t know what it is about this fragrance but it just smells like hospital to me. I don’t get any of the advertised notes here unfortunately so it’s a no from me in this occasion and it will be passed on to someone who may appreciate it.

The angelica here comes off more bitter than usual. And tonka here is not airy. And the vanilla is a bit synthetic leaning.

Yes, I'm getting caramel made with butter in a cedar box that used to sit next to the curry jar. It's not markedly curry, but the hint is there. This almost smells more like Immortelle than Angelica to me. I suppose if I squint mentally I can get salted celery instead of curry out of those elusive odd notes, but it's there. So I would call this a warm autumn vanilla based wood with sweet caramel on top. This is kind of what I thought Salt Caramel would smell like, but it's not nearly as painfully sweet as that one was. Not hugely heavy, but there's no lightness in this one to me, and yes, I agree with other reviewers that it's not vanilla or tonka strong. It's....odd. But wearable I suppose. I don't love it.

About time. This perfume has been out long enough, and it's already been discontinued, if I'm right it was a limited edition. I think you may still get it on Shay&Blue website, but only if you type the speciffic name in the search bar. Anyway, it's a 95-97% dupe for Commodity Milk Expressive version.

Shay & Blue Tonka Angelica is a resinous vanilla incense almond blossom pudding, with an underlying plastic milkiness reminiscent of Japanese milk candy.
