Sylhet

A lovely representation of "Sylhet" as the reference tea and agarwood hub in the world. AG and the Shekor team did a great job directing the composition with it's citrus brightness, starchy green galbanum hum followed by the Sylheti oud, black tea and earthy materials. Quite balanced and multidimensional. Definitely something the nature centric minds will adore. I'll spend some extra time with this for a detailed analysis. An unbiased way to represent Bangladesh through olfaction, which is highly appreciated.

Sylhet opens with an accord of mint, lemongrass, and black tea that aims for freshness and boldness but ultimately feels underdeveloped. The lime and petitgrain add little of substance, and the fleeting jasmine brightness disappears before leaving any meaningful impression. The heart does nothing to salvage things: oud, galbanum, and black pepper reach for depth, but the overall effect is crude rather than compelling, with geranium seemingly there only to patch up an unstable structure. The oriental-woody drydown — benzoin, patchouli, leather, vanilla, tonka, and a marine twist — is not entirely without interest, but it carries the unmistakable scent of well-trodden territory, with Gardoni failing to bring anything genuinely new to the genre. The problems, however, do not stop at the juice itself. The asking price is simply unjustifiable. The bottle is barely adequate, and the packaging is an embarrassment for a product positioning itself at the upper end of the market. At this level of expenditure, attention to presentation is not a luxury — it is a fundamental part of the experience, and here it is almost entirely absent. Sylhet is, in short, a middling fragrance sold at a premium price, propped up by a brand reputation that finds no real support in either the scent or the packaging. Those familiar with Gardoni may recognize something of his signature, but they will struggle to find anything here that justifies the cost.

a big mix of different things in a way that’s a little too funky for me personally but it’s not bad

A spicy woody aromatic scent signed by Antonio Gardoni for the new Bangladesh based niche brand Shekor perfumes, this is an olfactory representation of the Sylhet region of the country. The scent opens with aromatic notes of mint and lemongrass along with some citrus and tea. As the scent progresses, one gets hints of pepper, geranium, patchouli and slight leather. The scent settles into a powdery base of benzoin, vanilla, tonka bean and slight oud. While the scent starts off with a fresh burst, the powdery vanilla tonka drydown is indistinguishable from much more economical generic scents on the market, making this scent a bit of a mixed bag. It is a great effort nonetheless for a new niche brand. The masculine leaning scent has moderate projection and good longevity and makes for an easy wear. Enjoy!

Darker khaki green notes going to amber yellow. Starts with freshly cut stems of tall grass and milky flowers that you get for your grandma on an autumn sunday afternoon. Its sunny on the patio, you have a nice talk remembreing all the good times and before you leave you have to visit wc. As the house is old and plumbing is on strike from time to time, there is musty air of small room with separate toilet, where sun shines through narrow high window, ...still it feels like the floor was wiped recently, but you are on the toilet (slightly urinal undertones during whole duration of the scent not in most pleasant way). Silage and longevity are however exquisite. No traces of lime, lemongrass nor tea.

If a shipwreck had a scent .....

Sylhet, composed by Antonio Gardoni, is best understood as a green oud... and that alone should set expectations. Rather than leaning into the dark aspects often associated with the material, this composition keeps things airy, vegetal, and somewhat restrained. Effectively, it is a scent that evokes tea plantations more than incense burners. The opening is crisp, built around lemongrass and tea. Importantly, this is tea in its greener, fresher form. In my opinion less tannic, less bitter, closer to crushed leaves than brewed tea. Mint and citrus flicker briefly, reinforcing the sense of freshness before the composition starts to thicken into galbanum et vetiver. Oud is perceptible from the start, and it plays a chocolate‐tinged supportive role. As it develops, Sylhet moves inward resulting in a scent that stays closer to the skin than most Gardoni creations. Still, his signature is there: the herbal, slightly feral undercurrent that links Sylhet to Bogue Profumo’s aesthetic shows up clearly in the mid‐phase, even if toned down here. In style, Sylhet sits in the same conceptual family as Oud Taiwan or Jidden , though those push the oud further forward. Jidden especially, with its darker, black‐tea profile. Longevity is solid at around 8 hours, with contained projection throughout. Named after the Bangladeshi region famous for both tea gardens and agarwood, Sylhet feels appropriately contemplative. Considering the price and the quality of the ingredients, it’s absolutely worth exploring but personally, I find Gardoni’s own Bogue releases more compelling expressions of his vision.

Lemon-lime snowcone; a strange, juvenile, electric, Whole Foods-essential oil-aisle gourmand. It's a shame that oud is nowhere to be found. Bangladeshi ouds are famous for their gorgeous chocolate notes. Like most Gardoni fragrances—I'm finding—he's not really creating perfumes for human bodies. You could believe the adcopy and believe Sylhet's landscapes are being recreated in this ironically playful fragrance but the architect is once again making room sprays for the backrooms.

Can't stop sniffing this! Very green, very grassy, the vetiver and the petitegrain is the main show of this fragrance.
