Tipakorn 2023 Edition

This is truly unique. The opening is pure tobacco and smoke (not like an ashtray, but almost reminiscent of gunpowder). After about 10 minutes, this transforms into something amazing. The amber accords and mate unfold and take center stage, while the tobacco takes a back seat. Honestly very evocative of a Thai temple in active use, and has a smoky/incensy accord to it that is present in Nam Ob perfumed holy waters, commonly used to annoint sacred images in Thailand. Almost smells like a Nam Ob Loy minus the floral, and with the smokiness dialed up. Tipakorn is constantly morphing throughout the wear, which is a plus point to me. While the tobacco bomb for the first 10 minutes is no joke, it is well blended but multi-faceted after that. This is very close to Ayutthaya by Prin Lomrose, which swaps gunpowder for tobacco, and centers its amber accord on elemi (Ayutthaya is much pricier per volume, so Tipakorn is a great alternative). A great introduction to Siam 1928 for sure!

A truly beautiful tobacco scent, one of the best I've found. Its golden hues of whole tobacco leaves laid out and baking in the heat of the mid-afternoon sunshine.
