Fleur de Santal

I’m getting crazy because of this perfume. It is so mysterious and unusual, so beautiful. I can compare it only with my lovely Alba by Profvmvm that is my signature scent. However Fleur de Santal is darker and a little sweeter. The harmony and idea is pretty similar to that of the Alba. This is the creation made with unbelievable passion and love. For sure you can find flowers there but undistinguishable and extremely well balanced with woods which are so sensual, delicate and strong in the same time. I can easily recognize chocolate note, but dark dry chocolate with its delicious nuances, not cloying at all. This is like memory from childhood. I can’t find places in my mind which were so cozy and so safe but I remember it was before I went school, maybe my Grandma house, the house of happiness. I can’t imagine that somebody can say it is bad perfume. I have huge collection of fragrances but really nothing is like this. I would share this masterpiece with everybody who I’m in love with. The silage is grate and it last for many hours on my skin. It is worth any price.

Skip the fleur. I don’t find anything floral here. Fleur de Santal is a noble effort to recreate the scent of sandlewood oil. I appreciate the attempt to give a breather to this overharvested beauty, but good intentions don’t necessarily lead to success. I suspect a number of components were used to make this formula, each one ideally lending a specific quality to recreate the penetrating lushness of sandlewood. I could be entirely wrong on the actual ingredients, but here’s how it seems to me. Cedar for the feel of moist wood. Lactones and musks for a milky quality and rounded sweetness. Benzoin and vanilla to flesh it out and give some boozy voluptuousness. (Patchouli? I can’t quite tell.) Unfortunately these various elements lend more than the one attitude they were called upon for and the focus gets lost. Overall, FdS leans too heavily on the gentle creaminess and comes off as simply sweet rather than rich.

A full-bodied oriental scent composed of amber, patchouli, vanilla, chocolate, and musk. I don’t smell anything obviously floral. I don’t smell sandalwood, either, so the name seems completely off base. I would classify this as a gourmand oriental, heavy on the patchouli at first, but becoming more ambery towards the end. It’s really lovely, smooth, and wearable, with moderate sillage and long lasting power, at least 8-10 hours. If you like patchouli-based orientals and gourmands, and would like to try Angel’s upscale cousin, I highly recommend Fleur de Santal. Just don’t expect sandalwood.
