Salt Air

Came back to give this another round of praise because it has become my safe haven, specifically during true violent throws of a hangover, ha! Ok so you know when you had A NIGHT, real “let the bodies hit the floor” type outing when by the time you make it home all you can really do is a quick swipe of a makeup wipe off before it’s curtains for you babe... and the next morning you wake up overheated (despite a/c blasting) and feeling gross and sticky... Well, for me the only move is a good shower, clean clothes, maybe a diet coke and a cry but I digress, spritz myself w this stunning clean, cold salty coastal air scent and i feel like a new, fresh, cool casual woman. When anything can trigger you while you’re in the throws of a true hellish nightmare, i can’t be smelling anything strong, floral, potent or sugary. This perfume is wonderful for that. Especially as the tiktokers coin “clean girl” aesthetic. It’s wonderful and crisp. Like perfect early morning air during a beach getaway. I just have to emphasize the fact that it doesn’t have bergamot or any citrus notes that would easily take it to a place of a spa or a man’s body spray is so crucial to it remaining photorealistic and not nauseating. It’s just perfect, salty, marine and mineral. If i could give one note to dear Skylar, its the whole longevity and sillage thing- needs improvement. Otherwise, perfection and my go to on days where i just need to feel cool and crisp and clean.

This review is from 2023 and Skylar changes these notes so the notes on this site are dated. The notes are currently as follows: Top notes: Italian Bergamot, Sea Salt, Seaweed Middle notes: Cotton Blossom, Water Lily, Cyclamen Base notes: Driftwood, Vanilla, Musk On me, the top note of sea salt reads very strongly and never fully goes away. The cotton blossom also reads not strongly on me, but it's the main heart note I can smell. It could be passed off as a laundry detergent smell but I needed to give it about an hour before I was in love with how it smelled. I hate gourmand smells. Anything sticky or sweet reminds me of sticky fingers in a halloween candy basket including, most of the time, vanilla which usually reads as the sickly sweet or stale on me but this vanilla is the most beautiful vanilla I have smelled in a perfume. I have only had it in the colder months so I'm so excited to wear it to where it truly wants to be, in the summer. I'm always looking for perfumes that don't smell like a perfume (if you know what I mean; they all kind of smell the same). This and By the Fire check those boxes. They just smell like the thing they are trying to replicate.

I didn’t like it when i first sprayed it, because I expected something more aquatic, marine, salty ocean air. But then i read the reviews and realized that if you smell it expecting fresh laundry then it’s pretty ok. It’s a skin scent, as in you have to actually stick your arm into your nose in order to smell it, so zero longevity or sillage. Overall, a disappointment for the price point, and a misnomer. Edit: okay okay it got me, i love it! It IS salt air, but one of the East Coast, a beach after the rain, in cooler weather. It’s one of the more photorealistic scents without leaning into men’s cologne or a spa scent. It’s fresh and marine and bright. It works beautifully on a hot summer day or a gloomy stormy June gloom. It’s now one of my top go-to’s, and if I don’t feel just salty, I’ll layer it with Boardwalk Delight for some sweetness.

To me, this is a very salty and intense scent on the first spray. Initially, it can come across as very strong against the nose - a very pungent almost alcoholic hand-sanitizer kinda smell on my skin at least. But that only lasts for a few seconds. It remains salty in the best way possible! It is very salty, light, and refreshing. I can smell the green coconut on the dry down. The woody notes are faint, but they are present and bring balance. I highly recommend this perfume to aquatic lovers who are tired of the overdone citrus summer kinda vibe. And I've been looking for something salty, aquatic, with a bit of a woody and green note. This perfume is not sunscreeny at all. Perfect for layering as well. 💙🌊

I am absolutely in love with this scent! Admittedly the longevity is not there but I think that’s to be expected with a sulfate and phalate free perfume? It’s a “clean” brand, and while I take marketing like that with a grain of salt I do appreciate that I can wear this around my sister who just recovered from cancer and is hypersensitive to perfumes with typical carcinogenic chemicals. Anyways the smell is absolutely intoxicating, like breathing in the skin of a lover in a beautiful beach villa- it’s intimate and warm and addictive. Can’t believe it’s not more popular!! I layer it with Skylars Capri summer if I wanna go a little more feminine and flirty for the summer.

I love aquatic fragrances, and I’m especially partial to more realistic less beachy scents. Skylar Salt Air is one of my favorites for sure. On my skin it’s very light and clean and I periodically catch the mineral/salt notes but they’re not overpowering. For some reason the coconut is most prominent when I wear this in the cold and more subtle when it’s hot but this may be a different experience depending on skin chemistry. I wouldn’t consider Salt Air a strong perfume – the silage is moderate to low and while I can smell it on myself throughout the day, I wouldn’t expect anyone else to casually comment on it.

I see a lot of negative reviews about this and I just don't get it. This is genuinely one of my favorite fresh perfumes (I'm usually into sweeter ones). This is a super clean aquatic scent that lasts all day on me. There is nothing fishy or funky that comes out on me thank goodness lol. I guess maybe try this before you buy it because I've seen enough bad reviews and apparently it doesn't work for some people. I have nothing but good things to say about it though!! It's one of my top 5 favs!

Does anyone here know if this has been discontinued in the big bottle? I've been checking the skylar website for MONTHS and it's not available. This is one of my favorite perfumes of all time and I'm starting to panick. All I can find is the rollerball and I hate those. Edit: Skylar has this back in stock as of 4-30-25! I only have a tiny sample of this scent. My sample is pre-2023. It has the very squeaky clean quality other Skylar scents have for me. It smells like I remember Cool Water from the 90’s when it came on fold out ads inmagazines, the light perfume and the almost bleachy smell of paper. It performs poorly in cold weather, you are lucky to get an hour of wear, I hope to amend this once summer rolls around.

really nice, clean, almost vanilla like scent. not dessert-like, but definitely sweet. there’s a good salt note in it, but it doesn’t smell sweaty to me. when i first got the tester bottle, the scent was very faint and definitely faded really fast. now that i have the rollerball, its almost overwhelmingly strong at first, but has calmed down now. yet to see longevity.

I absolutely love using this to layer under brighter scents like Skylar's Capri Summer or Juliette Has a Gun's Pear Inc to create a scent bubble that exudes the memories of sitting among the fruit trees under the mediterranean sun at my grandmother's house on the sicilian coast

Tested this in store and will be purchasing full size. I have no idea how they managed to literally bottle ocean salt air , but they did. It's absolutely lovely. Don't have much more to say bc it's not a complex smell on me. Just very fresh salty ocean in the best of ways

I have this and love it! It smells just like a day at the beach with suntan oil! Right up my alley for the summer because I love the smell of the suntan oil but the scent goes away. Heres your solution for a touch up!

This is the most realistic salty ocean breeze scent I've found and it's more pleasant than all the others I've tried. Smells very clean. Reminds me of 11 11 but a little more feminine and a little stronger

Finally a beach scent that doesn’t smell like soap! This fragrance does not smell floral at all to me but I definitely get the salt water, sand, and a touch of wood. Overall really nice fragrance.

This is the exact warm slightly dirty sea salt you will find in Juliet has a Gun Vanilla Vibes, but without the Vanilla. Perfect for layering and exactly what I was hoping for!

This is such a sweet breath of clean, fresh air that doesn’t smell like laundry, cleaning products, or sunblock. Despite the notes listed, it also doesn’t smell anything like “The beach,” or coconuts to me and that’s a plus, or at least the way those things smell in other fragrances. There’s something sweet and something mildly aquatic that gives it the “clean” feeling. It’s incredibly long lasting and has amazing silage. The other day I had it on and my son said he could smell me from the other room—granted I sprayed it aggressively but it had been a few hours. On the down side (for me at least), there is nothing distinctive, surprising, or new to celebrate here and I think Id have a hard time picking it out of a lineup. So if you want to blend in and not offend, definitely a winner. I think I fell in love with this because of its nothingness. However I don’t wear things like this very often, so I’m not sure if it was worth the bottle. Just want to add that I saw a review below that suggested this scent was for someone immature who only likes sweet cheap scents and hasn’t evolved enough to appreciate anything more complex. In my opinion yes, this is definitely a younger, linear, slightly synthetic scent, but much in the same way that a simple meal, an easy read, or a thrilling film is — this scent is reliable, familiar, and pleasant, it’s wearable and wear-worthy, and you do not have to be immature or repulsed by musk or florals to wear it, despite the review’s suggestions. It’s not essential to smell super nuanced and complex all the time. It’s just not. I also think that simplicity is what most of Skylar’s fragrances represent and Skylar markets them as such- so why go looking for something that’s not even being advertised here? Just enjoy and relax in the white space of simply smelling good.

Skylar perfumes tend to be lightweights–intimate, short-lived, ephemeral, but mostly enjoyable. It's a shame their longevity and projection are so light, because their scents tend to be beautiful. Salt Air is one of my favorites that I've tested. There is nothing like a fresh, airy, sweet marine scent to capture the joy of breathing in salty ocean air, and Skylar's take on the scent profile is especially wonderful. Salt Air is sweet, salty and blue, with just a hint of fruitiness. True to its name, this is a more "airy" scent as opposed to an aquatic or marine scent, though the accords definitely hint to an oceanic presence. I believe the "fruity" notes are thanks to the underripe coconut and frangipani combo. The mineral notes also help keep it from "aquatic" to "ozonic." Despite listing driftwood and sandalwood in the notes, I can't pick up anything earthen or wood in this fragrance. I'd compare it to the more fruity and shampoo-like Ocean Di Gioia, but a little less overtly sweet or watery. I will say it has better longevity than Ocean Di Gioia, though sadly it's also pretty short-lived. Just over an hour on my skin.

This smells very nice indeed. I get salt air, walking next to the ocean, a bright early morning, and some fresh linen on the clothesline that’s next to the ocean. A really nice fragrance, inoffensive. This is something you wear when you’re sick of everything in your fragrance wardrobe and need a palate cleanser. Edit: Someone below me said this smells like Missing Persons aquatic cousin (paraphrasing) and I agree completely. MP is my signature scent and I can definitely smell the same skin musk with a salty ocean overlay on it. I happen to really like MP and I also like this variation. I am going to see how long this lasts on skin before purchasing a bottle. I have Boardwalk by Skylar and I love it but it has no lasting power- I have to drench myself in to get any sillage. Hopefully Salt Air has some umph, or else I won’t purchase. Edit 2. This is lasting a pretty long time on my skin; I sprayed boardwalk next to it (about 30 minutes later) and I barely smell boardwalk anymore but can smell salt air. Interesting!

Fresh, aquatic, somewhat beachy, slightly woody, salty, clean, refreshing, and with a subtle aquatic sweetness This feels like sitting on the beach in the sand with my toes in the water and a refreshing ocean breeze blowing through my hair! Perfect for hot summer days, beach days, or whenever you want something refreshing and clean smelling. I really pick up on the sea notes, sea salt, mineral notes, sand, and a touch of green coconut and driftwood. It’s really pretty, a very nice aquatic scent! Definitely a like for me. I think this would layer really well their Boardwalk Delight. I do find this to be somewhat similar to Ellis Brooklyn Salt, but less floral and more aquatic and mineral smelling. I’m also reminded somewhat of Replica Sailing Day and even slightly of Beach Walk. I get decent performance with Salt Air. The longevity is moderate, about 5-6 hours on me before becoming a skin scent. The projection is also moderate, it radiates out about an arm’s length from me.

Very refreshing! Beachy vibes that could work year round because of the salt and minerals, and the coconut is like an icy coconut, not the usual sweet-pinapple-and-rum coconut. I also get a bergamot kind of zesty lift that keeps the jasmine from getting heavy. There are moments when a switch flips and I can't smell anything but "Parsley flavored L'Eau par Kenzo" and I kind of love it, even more than the winter-beach-coconut. Then it flips back and I feel like I'm going crazy but at least I know I smell fresh and pretty. Now I suppose I'll go look at aquatic parsley fragrances to alleviate my curiosity.

Green marine! Clean, refreshing, and beachy without heavy citrus or coconut. It opens with salt & marine notes, then I get a strong honeydew melon, parsley, jasmine and more salty ocean waves. Cotton and driftwood musk underneath it all. It's simple, but not linear. Not something I'd normally wear or gravitate towards, but it's pleasant especially at this price point. There is a faint synthetic Windex analogue that's detectable if you "squint" hard enough, which some may find off-putting. Office-appropriate, for me sillage is similar to Lacoste Pour Femme Légère.

Smells like sitting in the sand while the salty blue-green ocean water laps at the shore. So clean and crisp. I love putting this on after getting out of the shower. I tend to reach for this on the hottest summer days because it’s so refreshing. This layers nicely with Skylar’s Boardwalk Delight for a salty cotton candy scent! In fact, this would layer well with a lot of fruity scents, vanilla scents, etc. Like other Skylar fragrances, Salt Air doesn’t have the best projection or longevity. I do need to reapply after just a few hours.

The notes shown on Fragrantica are for the old version of Salt Air. Notes for the current version from Skylar website: Top notes: Italian Bergamot, Sea Salt, Seaweed. Mid notes: Cotton Blossom, Water Lily, Cyclamen. Base notes: Driftwood, Vanilla, Musk. This is a very musky marine aquatic. Almost has a tropical vibe, but it's not sunscreen-y. I think you need to like driftwood and sea salt notes to like this. I find it to be most similar to Ellis Brooklyn Salt but without the animalic ambergris note. It's definitely pretty unique.

Im a gourmand fanatic and got this rollerball in a sample pack. Wasn't too excited but then put it on. It's so different from what I usually wear. I get tons of beach. Salt air is a very fitting name for it. It's long lasting too, even if it doesn't tend to project very far. I've been able to smell this on me hours after I used it.. . I dont think it dries down any different on me either. What I roll on is what I smell hours down the road. When im done with this rollerball I may purchase this again or explore other aquatics.

smells exactly like the name suggests: salt air. I've never been to the beach, but this is what I imagine a person would smell like after they've been in the ocean and the sun had dried up all the seawater on their skin, pieces of seaweed still dangling from their hair. doesn't last very long on my skin and on my body it just smells...like skin (like sweat, a little bit). I think it's nice, but not something I would wear too often, especially if I weren't near a coast or somewhere this scent wouldn't seem out of place.

Salty & almost sterile. I really enjoy this--I think it's underrated. I can see how this wouldn't be a profile for everyone because it's a bit more niche than usual. But if you're looking for pure salty vibes, almost like smelling a block of Himalayan salt, this is probably for you. This would be so fun to wear to the beach! & I disagree with the comparison to Ellis Brooklyn's Salt--I find this waaay saltier & more mineralic. I wasn't impressed much by Salt by Ellis Brooklyn; this is much better imo.

Maybe it needs more time to develop on my skin, Right now, though, it's just... meh. It's not offensive or unpleasant, but it's also not really anything. I was hoping for that invigorating, breezy seaside vibe, and so far, it's barely a whisper. I was pretty excited given my love for all things oceanic, I'm getting the tiniest hint of something vaguely fresh, maybe a touch salty as the name suggests, but it's so faint it's almost nonexistent. Update: I tried it a second time, and absolutely love it!!

It’s different...I definitely see why it’s described as “woody” and “aquatic.” It isn’t something that on me gives off a particularly strong, lingering scent. Like others have said, it smells a bit like suntan oil, but also like it’s name - SALT air. Upon smelling it it reminded me of being at the beach, with a smell that’s a mix of sunscreen and salty ocean water. Perhaps if you long for summer and the beach, this will brighten your spirits during the cold months.

I received a rollerball version free in a beauty box. Not my kind of scent AT ALL- but- I kept trying it and it grew on me. I work in a medical profession and it’s good for that, smells like clean skin, salty air, laundry. I also find it good for layering- tried it with neroli portofino by Tom Ford and got lots of compliments. Also- it smells EXACTLY like Missing Person by Phleur- but less floral and powdery. Would not buy for $95 though.

ideal for beach! might be a little odd elsewhere. very realistic beach scent in my opinion. not super wild about it but i don’t regret purchasing! salty, fresh, and aquatic without smelling like cologne. interesting scent:) i think a little more coconut might balance it out to be a little less salty and less photorealistic. i think that if it was more subtly beachy it might be a bigger hit for me.

I definitely get the salty, beach air vibes! A bit of laundry. Flowers aren’t jumping up at me. It’s not as light and airy of a fragrance as I would think. There’s a lot going on in here. One interesting note I catch is almost a vanilla ice cream lactonic vibe, which I didn’t expect, but ties the fragrance together nicely and gives it more depth. The sandalwood bottoms it out. It lasts 3-4 hours.

I love the beach and the smell of salt air, sand, and surf. I am always drawn to perfumes that boast sea-inspired/beach scents...and I am always grossed out. I guess I like the real thing and not inspired scents. This is one of the nicer ones I have smelled, for sure - but something with these artificial salt scents make me feel nauseous. This is a pass for me. So glad I got to sample it

Yes, I agree with Imwimsatt that this smells exactly like a lovely coconut suntan oil. I smell a lot of frangipani in this. There's the fresh mineral-tinged sea salt and some delicious sweet coconut going on that makes me associate it with a beach day at the ocean. Summer in a bottle, I'll take it! I don't really smell any of the other notes. Lasts 5-6 hours on me.

To my nose, there is a mineralic (almost metallic) coldness to this scent that evokes a northern coastline (as opposed to a warm beach scent). It smells like walking on the boardwalk during off-season. That said, it is perfect for hot weather - cooling, fresh, salty (in a briny, oceanic way), and wears lightly. Also layers really well with sweeter summer scents!

This is the perfect salty ocean beach fragrance to me. The first spray is salt and minerals, with a quick dry down to a beautiful sandalwood base. I do get notes of drift wood and a marine quality, but it never crosses the line into fishtank. A must have for the summer, but only own a travel size as I can’t wear this fragrance into the other seasons.

Aquatic scents aren’t my favorite profile but this one is nice. Super fresh, and mineralic. This would be nice for a pool or beach day, but I dont know if it would work anywhere else. Super hot climates would definitely suit this scent, I could see it standing up to the humidity. Smells REALLY good layered with Siren Pearl. I was surprised by this.

This is a nice pleasant summer scent! The longevity is pretty poor but thankfully it comes in a roller ball that I can just toss in my purse to reapply. It’s also really easy to layer with other summery scents. As far as salty summer fragrances go I personally prefer Ellis Brooklyn Salt but this is a little lighter and more airy if you prefer that!

Tart and damp, salt and coconut rind. The mineral notes are going crazy in here, metallic and sharp. I ragged on this in a previous review when I tried Salt Air in January. Now, it's 80 degrees and muggy, and I find myself absolutely craving it. I went from scrubbing this off my skin to moving this to the top of my to-buy list. Dang.

Salty and airy just like it’s name, then I smell plastic floaties, then soap. Light, unisex, and very clean scent. It’s okay. After some time: This has always stayed at the back of my mind ever since I tested it. It’s plastic, salt, air, coconut. Creamy and slightly sweet on the dry down. I like it and wouldn’t mind owning a bottle.

I absolutely love the way this smells. I didn't realize I loved salt until I tried this. This offers ZERO projection. Had it offered more projection I would most definitely buy. I'll be on the hunt for something similar. Hopefully I can find some success. I noticed their Capri Summer was an extremely faint skin scent too.

Most accurate beach scent I’ve yet to try. Unisex. There is a slightly dirty undertone which makes me prefer Replicas Beach Walk though, which is less accurate and more sunscreeny. Kudos to it being clean though and the realism of the scent of a warm sea breeze.

A nice fresh, salty, airy scent without any laundry detergent vibes (one of my least favorite scents). On my skin it smelt like aftershave, but on my husband it smelt fantastic and masculine in a classy way . Definitely evokes being on a sailboat.

I love layering this with a fruity/nutty scent. On its own, it smells very sterile before drying down to an oceanic, warm scent. This is the only perfume I have with a marine note, and I was surprised by how versatile it was.

ALERT I mixed this with Replica Beach Walk Everyone in the room was sick. Not a lot either. I hate them both now. I tried this once on my arm prior. Stunk at first, arm smelled like the ocean that night.
