Sibet

What a wonderful old vibe nuanced Iris leather. I’m a big fan of oak moss and mint. This fragrance is different as the mint and moss are blended well with the animalic touches and florals. The iris and leather peak out throughout, and you get that dry orris feel with green leaf nuances. I’m learning to embrace these vintage-esque smells. This one is a top tier one with the ash and carnation giving the floral vibe. The SLIGHT skankiness is needing this to balance the smoky Iris.

Wow the opening and first hour of this is just stunningly gorgeous and unique among leather chypres, with a distinct “old world” feel. Fantastic use of raw materials, the Iris mint and animalics are blended really impressively with the leather. I would still rank Kiste and Sova as the top compositions of the house but this around 4th or 5th. Fairly wearable and unisex. Works ok with my skin chemistry but this won’t work for everyone. Not a blind buy unlike Kiste. EDIT; I'm not sure what happened but now the iris is much less prominent than I remembered and all I smell is goat hair violet leaf and heavily animalic fat-like molecules...a challenging fragrance in many aspects. Had to wash it off sadly. Objectively, it's a perfect fragrance, I just don't like some of the ingredients. Maybe it's the overdose of fur tinctures mixed with ash. Myths Man by Amouage is similar to Sibet but without the animalics; I absolutely love that fragrance. I think of whale blubber now when I smell this one. Love Josh's other creations though.

New version of Sibet seems to be very similar to previous one. The most significant difference - not in terms of smell though - is significantly darker colour of the juice. Josh explained that is because he used treemoss instead of an oakmoss. Smell wise - it seems to be 99% similar to previous New Sibet, actually almost identical. Very mossy, mixed with loads of urine-like off-putting note and tons of musk. This all together smells like wet fur mixed with piss. Animalic, maybe even skanky. I also get barnyard vibes, the smell when you detect when you walk into the horse stable, or a stable in general. Getting into the drydown, it gets less funky and more leathery. The leather here is phenomenal, as good as in previous new Sibet. Longevity and sillage are huge on this one, more than 2 sprays might choke people out - and I’m not joking! Longevity is way over 12 hours. Sibet, just as New Sibet is among my top 3 Slumberhouse. I totally love it.

I definitely don’t smell piss, urine, barnyard or any off notes in Sibet 2022 and in my opinion the main difference here is the Iris, Violet and Oakmoss giving a new twist and complexity to a now Slumberhouse Classic. Sibet 2022 is a tart, violet leaf forward suede-like aroma with a vegetal goat hair accord that feels ever so musky and slightly dirty without feeling animalic or even offensive. What I struggle with the most is the prominent green, tart and herbaceous quality to the Violet leaf as on my skin it reads as sour. The heart and drydown is a classic albeit gorgeous Iris/suede accord built on top of a ridiculously beautiful ambered oakmoss. Overall this is one of my favorites even though I rarely find an occasion to wear it. It’s vintage in the best way possible while still feeling modern and even innovative for the times.

I can’t find thier perfumes anywhere... I hope they didn’t shutdown the brand
