Artist's Studio

This scent is incredible. It is legitimately quite edgy and challenging, as others have said, but I find myself really enjoying it. In addition to the plaster and solvent notes that blast you up front, a really dry, woody note becomes prominent on my skin in the drydown--like the lumber section of your local home improvement store. It performs well on garments, and once things open up again, I look forward to spraying some on my black faux fur coat and going to my local goth night when I want to be noticed but left alone. I find it lingers for a day or so on garments. It might be a little abrasive and masculine for some women, but I find it adds really interesting depth when layered with vanilla scents. The only scent that comes to my mind as a peer of sorts is Scent Tattoo by The Zoo- a garment fragrance that shares a similar dry, challenging cedar note but substitutes leather for plaster.

I adore this fragrance. At first I wasn't sure how I felt about this. The turpentine or mineral spirits notes are really powerful right away, but they calm down after a bit and the wet plaster comes through - wonderful, wet, chalky, plaster of paris or wet concrete. The turpentine does still linger softly in the background throughout the day, but it melds so well with the other notes - they all work together brilliantly. So clever and what an experience! <3

Everyone has such spot-on reviews of this. As a studio art major, this is a scent that will always be comforting. I love wearing it to feel inspired or nostalgic.

They lie! Artist's Studio does NOT just smell of wet plaster (although it does, deliciously) - it also smells, really really REALLY strongly, of white spirit, oil paint, damp canvas, gluggy clay, playdoh and cedar wood shavings. So it is an absolutely photo-realistic performance piece for perfumers - it totally, recognisably, amazingly accurately represents the space evoked by its name. But if this is art, it's the rather difficult, spiky, angular, challenging rather than comforting kind. Abstract Expressionist or some Basquiat maybe. At first burst (and my God it IS a burst) it just makes you stink like you've upended a tin of solvents all over your overalls. I could even smell nail-varnish-remover at times. It smells... somehow humid, yet also flammable? It's almost repellent and very very industrial indeed. So much so that in some moments my imagination wandered out of the atelier and all the way out onto a building site - it has that cool, damp, minerally aroma you get in freshly-painted, freshly-plastered basement conversions. I really couldn't imagine an appropriate moment or scenario for wearing this as a scent - except maybe trying to bullshit my way through a job interview at a fine-arts auction house???. And yet. And yet. I really do love all of those studio smells (too much time spent hanging around in art spaces, for sure) and as an artistic experiment in itself, this is an astonishing achievement. Evocative to the nth degree. But is it even a perfume? Well, it does get more manageable quite fast, and as it shrinks, becomes a little less weird and little more friendly, a little sweeter, and it certainly kept me sniffing my wrist for hours. It very definitely never gets all the way to 'pretty' or 'crowd-pleasing' though. This one's a prankster, a nose-teaser, an olfactory riddle. Like good art itself, it makes you think, even if you don't find it comfortable. Oh, Smell Bent, you adorable crew of utter eccentrics. Thanks for befuddling my brain and for having the sheer chutzpah to make and sell this. It's a bizarre sort of treasure.

it smells like Plaster of Paris & Gentian Violet & something woodsy & I keep huffing my wrist because it's oddly sniffable. (this is a positive review.)

Does smell like an artists studio- like wet oil paint and turpentine. Not exactly pleasant though.

Fascinating concept scent that is everything it promises. It's interesting what your imagination comes up with when you don't know what you are smelling. Before I read the notes, I got a distinct aroma of leather. After reading the inspiration for the scent, I got all the references. It does have the clean aroma of renovation - plaster, paint, thinners. I suspect that some of the same chemicals are used in tanning though, b/c I still picture leather, exactly like new-car-smell. I asked my brother what he thought the perfume smelled like, without telling him anything. He thought it was the scent of breathing in when you are toweling yourself off after swimming - the terry cloth linen, chlorine from the pool, a hint of plastic from the floats. I got his description too! This is a strangely wearable fragrance that evokes different scent memories depending on who is sniffing! It has a hygienic/turpenic quality that is universally appealing, and scores as a new fun 'guessing game' scent!

The opening of this is definitely turpentine and the smell of washing wet paintbrushes, but I get burnt plastic after instead of plaster.

smells mentholic, like an especially gag-inducing type of medicine I've definitely had before but can't remember for the life of me
