Hungry Hungry Hippies

Ok, it is unlike me to be quite so rash, I like to wear a perfume several times before I try to review it, or at least have a full days wear or extensive sampling etc. Possibly the first time ever I have been compelled to come and write something within the first few minutes of spraying. That said, this had a very sudden and shockingly intense impact on me when I applied. So here I am. I have been ill lately. Really ill. I have not had an appetite, can barely eat.I sprayed this on, grabbed at random from my samples as I felt like trying something new. Sprayed onto arm. Seconds later OH MY GOD I WANT TO EAT MY OWN ARM!!! I stopped to look at what the perfume was - Hungry Hungry Hippies! Fair enough, I am not really a hippy but maybe this has given me the munchies as all I can visualize is chocolate brownies...Literally my stomach is rumbling! Never had such a reaction to a scent, not even a gourmand. I will come back with a proper review once I have tried this properly. What I can tell you is that other than wanting to eat my own arm (I found 2 chocolate biscuits in the barrel luckily, and managed to eat 1.5 of them!) this opens with a rich chocolatey slightly earthy and a hint of cannabis, over the first 5 or 10 minutes I am hallucinating chocolate brownies, and after that it begins to settle (I think) into a rich earthy patchouli chocolatey earthy mmmm. Is this stuff even legal?!! Will for sure test this one properly and do a serious review.

I thought I knew what I was getting into with this, as I've tried many other cocoa/chocolate patchouli things as well as quite a few "pot" fragrances. LIDGE, Coze, Mountain High, Boccanera, Kokoriko, Pardon. I was shocked when I actually first smelled HHH. I was expecting pot brownies, what I got was gooey pot brownie batter sprinkled with cinnamon powder and with a slight touch of airy, herbal mint. The opening is more complex and distinct than I expected, and I'm quite smitten with it. As it dries down the herbal bitterness of the pot and the freshness wears off and it becomes a dusty, slightly sweetened earthy patchouli that is smooth and pleasant, not annoying (mountain high from the same line leaned a bit too heavy on the patchouli in the drydown for me, here its dialed in just right). Totally pleasant fun little fragrance, and a serious deal considering how monumentally well this performs. Considering the price I would say this is essential for any gourmand fan. I am not even a fan of gourmands myself, but here it hits that sweet spot that they do on occasion where they have enough unsweetened and bitter elements (aomassai and coze come to mind) to come across as a seductive spicy sweet body fragrance instead of just something candied and obnoxious. 8/10

Chocolate smells a little burnt, like a brownie left in the oven just a bit too long. Also it's more of a powdered cocoa than a greasy one. I'd just love it to have a noticeable cannabis note. Well, the patchouli used here gives this scent a brute, artisanal feel that few scents around have. What you'll get is chocolate and patchouli, and that's it. This perfume is not exactly classy or elegant, but has that chic and cool found in simplicity. I find Hungry Hungry Hippies to be in the same category of A*Men and Very Irrésistible (because of the gourmand aspect), but way less sweet and more earthy than both, and not as cloying as A*Men can be if overused. If you like these two scents by Mugler and Givenchy, you should definitely give Hungry Hungry Hippies a try. I myself prefer it over those two. How do I apply the oil, knowing that I live in a perennial warm weather? First I shake the bottle thoroughly, then I just dab one very little drop on my left wrist with the glass wand.Then I press my right wrist against the left one, then rub both wrists like behind the ear and on the chest, and the inside of the elbows. I find oil perfumes don't lose quality with the rubbing.

Wow, I just began exploring the Smell Bent catalogue and this is a HIT for me. The first whiff is overwhelmingly earthy...it smells of a dreadlocked hippie who just smoked his third joint of the day. The drydown...the earth tones down...mmm, patchouli....and then some of the richest chocolate I have ever had the pleasure of smelling. The sillage is nice and long-lasting. I will absolutely buy this again.

I really love this. At first I get strong smells of chocolate, which I wasn't thrilled with...they're pretty overpowering. But it dries down on me to a cinnamon-patchouli-cannabis blend that is intoxicating. I only wish the cinnamon was a little less strong and let the patchouli and cannabis shine.
