Smoked Ambergris

I'm struggling with not adding this to my want list. It's so amazingly beautiful to my nose. And then I read the other reviews and I'm again reminded that my scent perception is notably different from many. Yet my husband likes it too, so maybe we're normal and the rest of you are weird? Haha This is truly animalic. No doubt about it. But that dies down significantly after some time. The smoke remains consistent, and as others have mentioned, there is a sweetness about it not specifically mentioned in the notes, other than the ambergris note itself. The only obstacle with me putting this on my want list is the fact that it's not really a tropical scent. It's something I love for the amazing artistry, but smelling smoky isn't so pleasant to everyone. I also feel that there are smoky scents that are more wearable. However, I will continue to relish the remaining juice in my spray sample (manufacturer sample given to me by another Fragrantican). Perhaps by the time it's empty I'll decide to make the purchase. In the meantime, I'm excited to try more from this house. I've been blown away by everything I've tried from them so far, and even when it wasn't "me," it was really well done. Certainly Smell Bent is at the top of the game of animalic scents. At least as far as I've seen.

This has an aspect found in the scent of gasoline, rubber tires, turpentine, etc. -- an addictive pleasure which feels naughty to indulge. I attribute a texture to it, thick and gummy, like congealed tree sap (could be the amber association). It smells actually salty, which is amazing as salt itself was heretofore known to me only as an experience for the tongue. I have never smelled real ambergris; the closest thing to memory may be salted toffee (there is a burnt sweetness) and something resinous. As with tree sap, in my imagination this tastes like straight ambrosia, and the temptation to lick it is severe.

I love this so much. Wish this house was still around. I would buy 5 of these if I could.

I bought the small bottle, it was all they had. This is just what it says smoked ambergris. I like it though because it is really smooth. Nothing harsh like in a lot of "smoky" niche perfumes. The smoke has a hint of incense about it. The jasmine is ever so light used more as a blending agent rather then an accord. Bottom line is this smells expensive. So all those people who like a bon fire smoke or an incense smoke give it a try it is worth it.

It's what it says it is, but part of the fun of wearing it is waiting for some of the floral subtlety to fight its way out of the ring while the two heavyweights duke it out. Surprising quality. Good stuff.

Very smokey church incense at first. Dries down quickly to light smokey musk. Doesn't last on me and I get no ambergris. Maybe just be a body chemistry thing. The smoke is nice, not overwhelming.

Wow, lots of positive reviews. Allow me to respectfully disagree with my co-commentators and say this: For me, scrubbing was not the ideal option, only the most practical one. The ideal option would have been to immediately chop off my hand and torch it and replace it with a robot hand that had no memory of Smoked Ambergris. That's how bad this fragrance was to me. My spouse came home and asked if anyone had "had an accident." My child asked me to throw it away outside in a garbage can far away. Indoles? Yyyyyeah.

skin chemistry is a fascinating thing. on me this is smoky, burning bacon with a hint of ambergris. SO smoky. SO burnt. i do love ambergris, and i like smoke quite a bit, but this is just insanity on my skin. oh well...

I wanted badly to like this fragrance, since I have been wanting a good campfire smoke scent and this is within my preferred price range. I think the issue is not the fragrance itself, but that I chose to get it before I knew what ambergris smelled like. I think I'm not a fan of it, and so it was hard to like this fragrance despite their being points in its development that I enjoyed. Sadly the points I liked - the sweet campfire scent, didn't last long on me before it got too funky on my skin for my taste. There is also a salty note that comes out after awhile that I didn't expect. I found the longevity of the ambergris on my skin to be very impressive. When I put my nose to my skin where it had been sprayed, I could still smell it 12 hours later. UPDATE: After a few very very hot days in my apartment I tried this again. This time I am fascinated by it and find it a lot more palatable. It's not an easy fragrance to wear by any means, but it is very beautiful in it's own way.

What a strangely salty concoction! It wasn't particularly smoky to me (although it did hurt my nose at first), but instead surprisingly sweet like a burnt salted toffee, a strong one at that!
