Dead Dinosaur

Goddamn. Dead Dinosaur really sparked back up my love for weird perfumes. And it being from Snif? Wild. The last place I was expecting to find something like this. Read some of the reviews for it and honestly the negative ones are what convinced me into blind buying a full bottle. I have no regrets. The imagery is simple and oddly comforting. You're sat in a tattered, leather seated, metal chair in the tiny waiting room of a local mechanic shop. The white tiles beneath your feet are cracked, chipped, and streaked with black rubber marks. Theres a candy machine in the corner mostly emptied of its Mike and Ikes and it probably hasn't eaten a quarter since the 90s. The elderly woman currently being helped at the desk is not wearing any perfume but her Suave floral shampoo radiates like one. Jim, the greasy haired mechanic at the desk, taps away at the filthiest keyboard with chewed nails ringed with black. He's just come back from a smoke break, perhaps he never left and the smoke rising from under the desk is a still lit cigarette rather than a fire starting. Air compressors hum, impact wrenches whir and thud passed the glass window looking into the garage. You could not be more grateful for the standing fan swinging it's head around the oven hot room, as you pump strong hand sanitizer into your palms. Most everything I've tried from Snif has a synthetic note somewhere that kinda puts me off. But here it works fantastically. I find this strangely wearable. It lasts pretty long and radiates well. I love it. Also the name? The bottle? Are you kidding? This was made for me. That's all.

YUCKY! I LOVE IT! It’s giving me exactly what I wanted. The first spray is an earthy white floral, and then the gasoline hits you in the face. It doesn’t overpower the other notes, though, so it turns out smelling like sweet flowery gasoline. The pepper and ginger also add some spice in the dry down. I wanted this because the gasoline and magnolia combination reminds me of Mississippi where I grew up, so this is a very nostalgic scent for me — feel free to take this glowing review with a grain of salt. Granted, I have no idea where I would wear this, but I can’t stop smelling it. If you’re curious, it’s absolutely worth sampling!

This isn’t for everyone but for those that it was created for, that smell this for the first time, they may cry remembering the smell of someone they love most. I just received this in the mail and was so excited to test it, upon first spray, tears started welling up and it made me remember my mom’s hugs when I was a child and I immediately broke down and called her. This scent will never be sprayed again but I will keep this bottle forever. This is what perfumery is meant to be. The only form of scent-memory that can be bottled and for those that it touches, it invokes the most powerful flashbacks possible. Thank you, Snif.

Somehow, Snif captured my grandpa in a scent. It smells like gasoline spilled on hot concrete, a used ash tray, old man aftershave, and a mechanic's shop. It also smells a little dusty and dirty. I am OBSESSED with it. It's how I imagine the dive bar in Lana Del Rey's 'Ride' music video to smell. I bought a 10 ML, but will likely buy a full sized bottle when I burn through this. It's not an everyday scent, but I equate it to By The Fireplace by MM/Replica in terms of wearability...it's a scent you wear to evoke a certain vibe rather than simply "smell good."

The power of femininity ~ The smell of a mechanic who ties her hair back and wears classic heavy petal florals. A women's Dior Fahrenheit. The only issue with this scent for ladies is that weak men may find this intimidating and that could prove inconvenient. The only issue for men would be finding the openness and appreciation to complement such a powerful, feminine vibe because the finish is nothing but femme magnolia.

Really weird perfume, smells floral, fresh and kinda... decaying? Like there’s something spooky behind the freshness, don’t know how to describe it but it’s not gasoline. Kinda like the smell of dirt maybe? But somehow in a good way? I wore it all throughout last summer and got tons of compliments but the people offering them also didn’t know what they liked in the scent. Weird, not a safe blind buy but really fun!

I’ve wanted this one for over a year now and it did not disappoint. This is your welder boyfriend picking you a bouquet, your mechanic husband putting on Burt's Bees. Somehow it’s graceful while sharp. I got a lot of immediate compliments. The gasoline is there but bleeds into something floral yet masculine and musky. I really love it!

Great for fans of magnolia who want a wearable, clean "at the gas station" gasoline accord. Complex yet transparent enough where you could wear this day or night. I have received many compliments when wearing it. I'm generally not a fan of big florals in fragrance but this one is done in a way that is light and addicting.

I love this one. I was worried it would only smell of petrol when smelling it at first but once it settled it sent me on a journey back to being a kid sat waiting at the petrol station for your parents. it reminds me of those station stops after being at the beach when youve still got the energy to run and swim.

Surprisingly wearable with a gasoline note that calms down within an hour or two. And then a solid woody floral peeks through. I, for one, would like to see Snif do more “weird” scents, and maybe chill on the creation of nauseatingly sweet gourmands

I DID NOT WANT TO LIKE THE GASOLINE PERFUME!!! But it's so good on my skin. It has an almost vampiric musk, with a floral background. Almost a seductive smell to it. One of my favorites.

wearing it outside in the cold is amazing. mostly floral and balsamic, gasoline notes are too faint can't really even tell, more of a metallic smell maybe?

Ooh, I like this. The first 0.5 seconds are utterly fantastic, like straight up orris. It immediately disappears which I dislike because I could hold onto this smell forever. However the transition to gasoline isn't bad at all. It's fairly unisex and musky which prevents it from actually smelling like gasoline, something the gasoline lovers on here might dislike. But I like it. Only when I smell for the gasoline and look for it does it become apparent -- it's like someone left the windows open while the neighbors were using gasoline to leaf blow outside and the scent got through the window and settled itself in the room. It's a late summer evening gasoline smell. Lazy, a little sensual, soft. It's more a skin smell. I also smell earthy dirt mixed in which makes me think of sweat, but it's more a Bruce Springsteen car mechanic sweat. Like your mechanic comes back to talk to you and he smells good. It's really sexy tbh, and I don't say that about a lot of perfumes. The cologne smell is nice, like he's well-groomed and has a date with his old lady after. That "cologne" smell comes from all the flowers underneath the gasoline. I can't make out individual flowers, but it's a nice perfumey boquet. It's faint but comes out every now and then. The musk, earthy dirt, and faint gasoline is mainly what I get it and it's nice. It's interesting and works well with my skin. I have the small spray but would definitely buy the big size.

I find it kind of cheesy when people put big long stories to describe a perfume on here but I have never smelled a perfume that creates a scenario in my head like this. The opening smells like being a little kid in my grandpa's garage on a hot summer day. The gasoline accord is there if you search but it hits me like a combination of everything I could find in my grandpa's garage. A tiny bit of gas, old tires, oil, a lawn mower, and maybe a hint of paint thinner or varnish, like he had just finished redoing a piece of furniture recently. That lasts for about 5 minutes before those notes kind of shift to the background and leather takes the spotlight, like you just pulled out of the garage and are sitting in the back of your grandpa's car with no ac, the sun warming up the old leather. In the end it smells like magnolia and pink pepper with the leather still in the background. Definitely brings up nostalgic feelings for me. That all being said, the opening was a little bit overwhelming. It was like my brain was waiting for me to get lightheaded off of fumes that weren't really there. I bought this on sale for black Friday, I never would have paid full price for it. I wish that they sold samples or a travel size of this because I think it will be interesting to revisit every once in a while but a 30ml bottle of this will be enough to last me 2 or 3 lifetimes.

This is an amazing nostalgic scent for those with memories of cleaning your mom/dads car on a nice hot summers day. To me this is a perfect unisex scent, and if you are a man wanting to add a nice spring/summer/fall floral scent to your collection this is perfect for it. This can be hard to pull off consistently, but it will definitely get people asking you what you have on. When you first spray it really knocks you over the head with the gasoline accord, but the florals and roundness of the amber really dull it out to make it smell very clean. As it dries down that gasoline smell takes a back seat for the peppercorn, cedar, and florals and it becomes really nice. This is a great day scent, but a hot summers night drive may also call for this very unique scent.

This smells like my dad. Who has worked in a mechanic shop as a manager for 30 years. When he would get home and I would hug him I could smell the sweetness on his white button up work shirt, with a hint of metal, along with the car smells. Yes it smells slightly of gasoline but it’s not over powering. Literally a throw back for me. If you have a bike guy or car guy in your life that’s exactly what this is. Them. It also smells like a softer version of Batman for Her for House of Silage. I gave it to my husband and hopefully he’ll wear it once in a while. :) A full bottle though would be a bit much. Samples are enough for me.

I imagine that this perfume, is exactly what the world of mad max, or a post apocalyptic earth would smell like. The dance between the sticky balsam notes and the green notes eventually give way to a hint of gasoline laced with magnolia. There are not many perfumes that are intensely thought povoking and also pleasant, but this one is. It is also wearable and a great conversation piece. Again the price point is slightly higher than what I believe it should be, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I first ordered their secret sampler discovery set and as soon as I smelled this, I knew I was getting the full size bottle.

Took a while to grow on me bc it has a pretty acrid artifical smell, especially right at the beginning. Not sure if I like it enough to get a full bottle quite yet, but I've worn it to work and gotten compliments, so it's not as offensive or far out as some of its marketing would want you to think. I get more plastic and faux leather than gasoline, like those artifical "new car smell" air fresheners. My coworker who smelled it on me said it smelled very fresh and "clean," almost like laundry. I do get slightly soapy hints as it fades.

I was really hesitant to open due to blind buy and possible waste of returning. I’m so glad I took a chance and opened Dead Dinosaur. The top note is definitely gasoline. What follows is a cigarette smell. It reminds me of a 90’s bar with music selected on a juke box, cigarette smoke, a leather jacket, pool table balls knocking each other and a spilled drink. The floral middle notes open quickly and stay long, a dirty smell stays with it throughout the day. It’s a fun fragrance and one I’m reaching for often.

This doesn’t smell like gasoline to me. In my opinion this smells like a hot girl at the club who chain smokes cigarettes. Like someone who is really clean and uses nice soap and wears a cute girly perfume and brushes her teeth three times a day but she just ripped down two cigarettes and that overpowers all the other smells. Take that as you will. I love smelling it but it isn’t for me in terms of wearing. Smells hot though so if this is what you’re going for you will probably love it!

This is such an interesting fragrance. I love gasoline so I had to get a travel size of this to try it. It’s definitely gasoline/garage smell opening yet a floral and clean dry down as the gasoline softens. A little too masculine leaning for my own personal scent style, but I would absolutely wear this when I’m lounging at home or at bedtime. A scent I want to smell for myself but wouldn’t necessarily want others to associate on me.

Crazy powerful gasoline+smoke at first, eventually fading into a spicy, woody floral that turns sweet before it's gone. Like the chemical scent of hot rubber and exhaust, hit by the smell of it in the sun, while walking along the highway and picking flowers. Or hiking into the woods and coming across a tar pit in the middle of a meadow. Really strong, easily gives me a headache if I spray too much.

First thing that comes to mind is a female mechanic. She wears a pretty generic, but yet sophisticated white floral perfume and just arrived home from working at her job as an auto mechanic. She's feminine, but not afraid to get her hands dirty. The gasoline reads a little light compared to the magnolia, but it is there. It's a very wearable fragrance, and quite pretty.

The gasoline note is present in the opening but in the dry down takes on a leathery quality. This is a lovely scent that becomes a powdery floral, not overly sweet, just enough to be summery and fresh. I didn’t like this on first try but at second and third I think this is a fun and pretty fragrance.

As a gasoline smell lover, YES it’s a note of gasoline. But it dries to more of a cologne scent. There’s a particularly floral quality to this that’s very very nice. On me, it dries to be a very masc yet delicate perfume. So interesting and worth a smell!

I find that sweat adds that something that this perfume is missing in order to smell like gasoline. It’s great to wear while exercising or working to get that authentic gas/car garage smell. Reminds me of my dad’s shop :)

Smells just like my uncle who rode motorcycles, chainsmoked cigarettes in his trailer, tried to mask the scent with plenty of cheap cologne, and died young. Took me back to my childhood because of that, and I loved it.

gas station, floral car freshener, cold winter lol. this is probably the most unique fragrance i've ever smelled. i like it... i just prefer it on someone else.

Some of my favorite smells, since childhood, have been gasoline and skunk. I’m the person who literally rolls his windows down and inhales deeply when fortunate enough to drive past that unmistakable skunk smell. So, my nose has always tended towards the weird, I suppose. Naturally, I bought this based on the gasoline note hype. My expectations were tempered after looking into the brand more, but I was hoping to be proven wrong. Basically I was expecting something from a minimalistic, gen-z marketed, all style no substance type brand. Well, I am sorry to report that I really don’t get any gasoline on my skin. What I do get is a simple floral musk opening, which last about 5-10 minutes, followed by a rather straightforward stale cigarette smoke smell. It actually reminds me a lot of the smoky ashtray accord I get from Hollyrose by Room 1015. But in that fragrance, the stale smoke is part of a narrative, part of a more complex scent, juxtaposed by floral and leather and musk, to create a femme fatale sort of scent, something that seems wrong but still draws you in, something that hints at the inevitability of decay and past beauty faded. This, it’s kind of just a simplified version of that... But, that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Whereas Hollyrose can be heavy, this is a much easier wear, and feels surprisingly light and airy. I really had to adjust my expectations, because upon further sampling, I realize this will excel as more of a warm weather day time scent. In that context, it’s just weird enough... a little off kilter but still approachable, and I suppose it jives with the marketing about nostalgia and simpler times, becuase it does oddly conjure some hazy nostalgia for humid, carefree, summer days of youth, cruising endless backroads and state highways with the windows down, stopping at a small-town gas station. Also, to me it seems to lean feminine, but some of my favorite fragrances are feminine leaning unisex frags, so that’s not an issue, just pointing out that I agree with others votes on here. I do at least give the brand kudos for selling 30ml bottles. I wish more brands offered that size, it really seems ideal for someone with a large fragrance wardrobe who still likes a full bottle presentation. Maybe others will the the gas vibes on their skin, they just weren’t there for me. Oh, and they send you a 2ml sample with the full bottle purchase, to try before you commit to opening and spraying the full bottle, so it makes it a no risk blind buy. Also a practice I wish more brands would adopt. Still undecided if I will keep the full bottle or not, may keep it for the one-off novelty factor anyway.

So, the Dead Dinosaur perfume came today. I had felt blind buy purchase anxiety after purchasing. It seemed a bit gimmicky and I'd been marketed to. I'm just the dumb slut to buy a gasoline scented perfume called Dead Dinosaur that comes in an iridescent bottle just because it is called Dead Dinosaur and comes in an iridescent bottle... I do love avant-garde and concept perfumes but they're hit or miss. After placing my order all I could think of was Ron Burgundy saying "Brian, that smells like pure gasoline" right before someone pulls the fire alarm on Sex Panther. I prepared myself for disappointment. The first spray *was* a little off putting. It definitely smells like an old garage with a can of gasoline next to the recently used push mower. It smells like the used ashtrays and upholstery of an old brown Buick. But the garage fades, like a memory and focuses into those grass clippings and morphs into a very bright citrusy floral and woody magnolia flower. Super realistic magnolia flower. But the ashtray smell phases back in for a moment and the two scents waver before it settles into the realistic, lasting magnolia... it makes me remember that magnolias, as a species, are ancient and pre-date the evolution of bees and it is surmised that they were pollinated by beetles. Magnolia trees that evolved 90 million years ago while the tyrannosaurus rex wandered the earth during the Cretateous period. Magnolia is one of the living dinosaurs. I am impressed with this fragrance although it's definitely not for everyone. Its an olfactory journey, the part that smells like an ashtray and smoke stained car upholstery is a bit off putting and I slightly resent it for making me feel like a hipster and a nerd. I don't regret my purchase. Edit to add that after 12hrs I find that what was a photorealistic magnolia becomes a little cartoonish and synthetic like a popular filter app might make. From there ther orris and davana smell like vintage lipstick you might find on your mother or grandmother's makeup bag or vanity. I find it a pleasant note to end on and it reminds me of Imaginary Author's offering O, Unknown.

I agree with some previous reviews: it’s not close to gasoline at all. If you really look for it, you might think “oh, THAT was what they were attempting”, but overall it’s more along the lines of a masculine cologne like Fahrenheit; it’s still classy and likeable but with a little note of something macho like a factory. I was very pumped for something borderline stinky and unwearable yet very artistic and honest. It was not it.

Where's the gasoline? I'm not picking up that note at all, which was my primary reason for buying this. Fortunately, I'm also not detecting the cigarette smell others are reporting, so at least I've got that going for me. Ultimately, it doesn't smell bad, but I'm very disappointed. I did not get what I was paying for. It mostly just smells like some kind of generic hand sanitizer to me. Oh well.

Very interesting! It definitely has a gasoline hint to it, but this scent evokes images of a genuine leather bench seat warmed in the hot sun getting gas at the station to me. There’s a distinct brightness to it, the magnolia I think. It’s a bit heady at first, but I wouldnt say this scent stinks. Its provocative and nostalgic.

Not even sure it's for me yet but I'm going to spend a little more time w this one... especially the dry down. Unique addition to a collection for sure.

You were at a Kentucky Derby party in 1970, and you're smelling your dress the next day. Sticky sweet summer florals and a faint smell of cigarettes. It's nice, but in an unexpected way. I don't think I'd expect any compliments from wearing this, but it is definitely evocative.

The opening is a dark, bitter floral. The gasoline note feels inky / smells like a wine if its ABV was somehow raised to 90%. Overdosed version of a department-store smell.

It smells like stale cigarettes in a mechanics garage while standing next to an old lady. It's not horrible, but it wasn't good. Nice to try something different though!

It literally smells like a mechanics garage when people chain smoke. My fiance says it smells like an old lady. Do with this information what you will. Lol.

Very excited to try this! Love how they paired the Gasoline accord up with that beautiful opalescent bottle. Hoping the scent is just as striking.

Less gasoline and more of an AeroKroil scent, light-medium automotive oil notes. Strange floral notes as well.

If you're looking for a gasoline the way CDG might render it (exact, photo-realistic, avant-garde) this isn't quite it. After a soapy white floral open, we settle into a sort of sour, oily leather with just enough grit and astringency to recall something approximate to gasoline (yet, I'm sure, no one catching a whiff of this on the street would think they're smelling petrol). I'm not familiar with the rest of SNIF's line, but based on their marketing and website this doesn't seem like the brand to be making anything groundbreaking or even all that interesting. This might work to this scent's benefit for those who might prefer the allusion or reminder of the toxic fumes nestled in a conventionally attractive frame rather than suffocating in a cloud of them (which would likely get tiring even for the biggest "petrol heads"). If you're looking for an alternative that might scratch your petrol itch, maybe give Santa Maria Novella's Nostalgia a try. The closest comp to Dead Dinosaur I can think of would be, surprisingly, Victoria by Frassai. The gasoline/white floral mix creates a bit of an olfactory accident that smells similar to tuberose/oud/lychee combo in Victoria. Update: I sniffed Dior's Farenheit again recently and noticed this seems to take the "gasoline" note in Farenheit, raises the volume and throws a soapy floral on top. Not well made in my opinion. Stick with the Dior.

This is a nostalgic very very white floral heavy BOMB on my skin. Its a very loud floral nightmare in my opinion, but Im not a flower scent kind of person. Anyway, this reminds me of my grandma. Good ol' Gram has been wearing nothing but Jessica McClintock daily since it came out in '88, and her entire apartment is saturated in the stuff. That is what this truly captures in my opinion. Peeling and sun damaged plastic, old Tupperware stained with age, dusty photographs on the wall of your dad standing in front of his late 80's Blazer, leather dress shoes that haven't seen the light of day in decades, mixed with the lingering white florals of Jessica McClintock. Its the reminder of a time now long past, in a bottle. I would never wear this ever again, but it was an interesting thing to experience until it gave me a headache. Not a safe blind buy, and maybe stick to a sample bottle like I did.

Wasn't for me. The floral smells are mottled and non-distinct and the gasoline smell, even if you're looking for it, is hard to find. The other reviews mentioning cigarette caked in smells are more accurate. There's none of that sickly sweet burnt tobacco scent, it's just the mildly unpleasant 'burnt' smell with some floral body spray over it. I was expecting something more like diesel exhaust or 'busy gas pumps on a hot day' type scent and this missed the mark. It's not unpleasant but not something I'd pick over literally anything else I own, first ever return of a scent for me.

This is not a complex perfume and smells like cheaply made Hollister stores – no shade if that's what works for you. The product underdelivered on the fragrance notes and did not evolve in a compelling way throughout wear. The sillage is lackluster, though that might be for the better with the overall aroma of this perfume. Was it a bad scent? No, but it does not deliver in a way that I would want to stand behind.

I wanted to love this! The notes spoke to me as someone who loves the smell of gasoline at the gas station and pink pepper notes in perfume, but I really don’t like this. It is a very nostalgic scent, like a grandpa who wears aftershave & leather jackets and smokes and works in the garage, but I don’t reach for that scent.

I appreciate how Snif was able to create such a specific scent that elicits strong nostalgic memories, but wow I do *not* like the way this smells. Very much giving cigarette smoke, not for me!
