Sweet Ash Super

The OG sweet Ash was way way too masculine on me, it actually gave me a migraine. But this?!? The most beautiful lactonic vanilla. Like I love this from first sniff. The only thing I don't love is that I'm not sure why it's called Super, it's a quiet scent that doesn't have much sillage or doesn't last very long. But I love it enough, I will overlook those things.

This smells exactly like what the notes claim. To me, it's mostly a milky wood scent with a light vanilla facet and a (short-lived) fir note. The milk is somewhat similar to what you find in Zoologist Cow, but replace all the grassiness/florals with sandalwood and a hint of vanilla. It's not sweet on my skin at all, though I thought it kind of smelled like Pez candies on paper. This ultimately isn't for me, I just have to have a little more sweetness in my scents.

This isn't very reminiscent of the original sweet ash. It turns into a pretty basic laconic vanilla with a whisper of pine that disappears in the dry down. It's alright. But it seems strange that this is called a flanker of sweet ash at all.

I loved the original Sweet Ash. To me, it’s an incredibly well rounded fragrance. It is a perfect balance of feminine and masculine notes. A woody, aromatic scent with some vanilla and citrus to balance it out. My only issue, like the rest of the Snif fragrances, is longevity. So I was excited when they revealed an EDP formulation. Sweet Ash with a higher concentration and some minor tweaks would be great. This is not that. This has nothing to do with the original Sweet Ash. The only similarities are in the first few minutes of the opening, where you get a bit of a woody fir note. That quickly dissipates and all thats left is just another heavy, vanilla milky gourmand. Snif, as a brand, keeps pushing out gourmand after gourmand. The sad part is that this is not even an original take on a vanilla milky gourmand. It’s not even their first. It seems that the brand has really suffered from the success of Crumb Couture and is just trying to replicate that hype and success instead of creating stylish, unique, yet affordable fragrances. If you like the original Sweet Ash, I’d skip this one. If you like creamy vanilla milky fragrances, this one is just okay. It’s rather one note and lacks depth. I much prefer Zoologist’s Cow or Etat Libre D’Orange’s The Ghost In The Shell. I hope the brand goes back to making more unique and inspired fragrances.

Milk is at the front with vanilla - a little sweet with a tilt towards marshmallow. It has the DNA of a gourmand, so the strong scent of multiple woods smells weird. The two categories don’t marry in Sweet Ash Super. It wants to smell like roasting marshmallows over a campfire but It’s missing smoke, a roasted accord. Adding a berry accord or a tea accord would have balanced this, too. As is, it’s off- kilter and doesn’t make sense to my nose. It’s a miss for me. Too bad because I really love the OG Sweet Ash.
