Dog Star

Living at the beach, I'm very used to the humid, sultry breeze that blows in off the ocean. The sticky air is tinged with a salty, slightly sweet smell from sea grass. Sirius, the Dogstar, ls a sign of summer, and we would sit on the shore in the late spring and see it in the night sky. A perfect image for this visionary perfume. Somehow this complex, difficult to describe accord, smells like this to me, but better. It opens with a diverse blend that does transition over time. Sandalwood, vetiver/patchouli/woody notes are all well integrated. Musk adds seasoning, and I think seashell adds that indefineable salt air feeling. Hard to pick out one note, but ultimately vanilla was the last note I smelled in the drydown. Ancient sailors used Dog Star to navigate, and I think they would have loved this fragrance!

An unusual composition that sends your mind spinning down several paths at first. There’s a watery EdC structure in there somewhere, but it’s largely obfuscated by a creamy, orange popsicle effect—milky, vanillic, but not overly sweet. It smells a little bit like ice cream, but contrast that against the citric notes of an EdC and a mellow, yet solid blond wood base, and you’ll get the idea. A striking concept that's surprisingly appealing from a gourmand perspective without going too far into sugary territories. But given that it settles into a predominantly milky-creamy scent, it’s probably not the most versatile thing under the sun.

Dog Star is an interesting sweet-salty-green fragrances. It almost feels like salty caramel and vetiver mix. Not my favorite from Soivohle line, it's for the people who like very unusual compositions.
