After the Rain

Literally lilac tree after the rain, smells like lilacs and wet ground. I can't tell you how thankful I am that Angela wanted to and has the means to make scents like this one.

Really smells exactly like what you'd expect from the notes--lilacs, leaves, and soil. Very reminiscent of a garden after rainfall and not unpleasant, but I'll have to give it a few more tries to decide if it's something I'd actually want to wear.

SS site description includes these notes: Natural perfume. Lilac, Wisteria, Blue Lotus, Rain, Green Accord, Wild Violets, Earth. Extrait/EDP. Alcohol based extrait. FLORAL/EARTHY. Not safe for pregnant/nursing. Spring Collection. For a scent centered on rain, I'm disappointed by how powdery this is on me. There's a slight damp greenness in the beginning, but it quickly transforms into sweet bloomy playdoh. Over time the powderiness seems to dissolve into wet ground, but still it feels like there's something missing from this. I did wear this to yoga and my teacher loved it - maybe this is one of those ethereal beauties that is best appreciated as a whiff in the wind and not with my nose attached to my wrist.

this starts off smelling like baby powder, earth and white floral...lilac probably, but maybe wisteria. it's very soft and wispy but there's a mild funkiness here that s not agreeing with my skin chemistry. although it is reminiscent of petrichor, there's too much weird funkiness for me personally.

I like to call rainy, wet days - Fisherman Days. I liken After The Rain to this, it's a Fisherman Days scent. And that's not really good. Too strong, off, and triggered a really bad headache. I gave it away to a friend who thought it was kind of OK. Would not recommend or buy.

Perfection. Lovely delicate fresh and wet florals. Concept very well executed! It’s such a beautiful transporting atmospheric and I’m not usually a fan of earth scents so I was relieved to find it’s not overdosed on geosmin... There’s just a wee bit of petrichor to transmit the outdoors and rainfall atmosphere without being so much earthiness that it feels like doing lines of wet mud or so much earthiness you can’t smell anything else. This is well blended and they’ve used a very delicate hand on the materials that are way too easy to overdose on plus they’ve made a lovely wet purple fresh flower arrangement that manages to smell novel but also green and natural. Well done.

Summertime. Late afternoon in a country meadow, wet from a sudden shower. The humidity is sweet. As the sun returns and warms the air, condensation rises. Jewelled steam amid the flowers. This opening will transport you to a field still damp with rain, fragrant with the smell of nature. Angela St. John nails her inspiration. Lasting suprisingly long, over an hour until the top notes fade away completely. Then, a musky smooth accord emerges that smells to me similar to Avon's Skin So Soft. It's got an earthy vibe, like clean skin. This has a very strong appeal b/c literally everyone I saw kept telling me how refreshing and clean I smelled. Sillage and longevity both good.

After resting it for a week or week and a half, I got lilac on the bush, like the real thing, just like some of the other reviewers. Then it faded to lilac hand lotion, and after that developed something nasty behind, probably the patchouli, which can be very unfriendly to me. Whatever it is, it is not pleasant. I tried again one more time several more weeks later and got a powdery old mannish floral with a petrichor note dried to dirty forest patchouli. I frankly like Forest scents (norne is an all time favorite, and Solstice Scents Foxcroft--with patchouli, no less--is WONderful) but this one just doesn't work at all for me.

I bought a used rollerball of this and it's been one of my favorite purchases of spring. I'm a gardener, and this scent feels absolutely true-to-life for being out in the garden during a warm drizzle. The lilac note is perfection and the other flowers all play a nice supporting role. I don't get a lot of the 'earth' smell, but I do get a lot of the aquatic note. Do be aware, a lot of people seem to not wear the SS petrichor note well, so if you had trouble with some of the other scents that contain this note, sample first. As for me, I'll keep grabbing this and Violet Mallow as my go-tos for Spring.

After The Rain is a misty watercolor painting of a fragrance, conjuring romantic visions of an elegant lady of the manor looking up from her ledgers to wistfully gaze out at her garden on a cool, rainy morning in early spring. Delicate, purple florals, restrained greenery, and the ghostly tracing of rainwater on a chilled glass windowpane. I wouldn’t quite call this an aquatic, but I hesitate to call it a floral. Can we pretend that there is a category of fragrance called “haunting breeze?”

This is one of my favorite SSs, and the one I most frequently reach for in the spring. On me, it's fresh and floral, though on a friend, it has a strong patchouli vibe. The lilac, green note, and water really rise to the top for me. Though floral, it's not overpowering since the green and the aqua ground it. It reminds me of walking around a small river town in Montana while the lilacs were in bloom. Hopefully I'll always have a bottle of this beauty!
