Edge of the Night

Delicious oaky earthy musky Chypre. The most apt comparison is vintage Emeraude done in more natural materials. It's different in its 3 forms. The burnished glace the wood smells chocolatey with the bergamot giving it a lovely lift. The EDP is probably my favorite, with a glowing citrus that gives way to the musky woody heart which reminds me absolutely of vintage Emeraude. It is a delight if you like this style of perfume, which I do. The oil is more intense, raspier, more sensual and unisex, and layers nicely over the burnished glace. It delivers the most complex scent experience and is not shy on the sillage at all. It's the most like the scent description and least like Emerald. The EDP is the best place to start with the perfume, the glace a safe blind buy, the oil is for the acquired taste. Love all 3.

Solstice Scents is new to me and I'm so glad I learned of them right here on Fragrantica. I recently ordered a sample pack and have enjoyed them all so much! Chypres are one of my favorite types of fragrances and this one is gorgeous! Edge of the Night has everything for me. It's a little sweet, a little spicy, woodsy, and earthy. Sultry and seductive, but elegant at the same time. Full bottle worthy for sure!

44th EDP: To me this sounded better than it turned out to be. Once again, same horrid corn chip/ musty hotel carpet or “butter” opening. Once that burns off, a sad, unidentifiable mix of notes weakly appears (perhaps a touch of clove and vanilla later). Smells like fabric softener or detergent, with some moss. Out of all the samples I have tried, this is one of the worst smelling for me, in addition to Estate Lavender. I do not smell sexy here. 0/10

This is very that girl, but not me girl. It is smokey, leathery, mossy, and spicy. Everything I tend to dislike combined into one, with oud, lavender, anise, and patchouli. I’m just not into chypres. I picture a confident woman with piercings and a leather jacket standing in the doorway on a cold rainy night. Maybe more black platform boots than stilettos. Dries down rather soapy on me.

Instantly after applying it has a very earthy vibe but there is also a certain freshness to it. Kinda like dewy underbrush in a forest. I hoped that hint of freshness would have lasted longer but the scent quickly transforms to quite thick and powdery. There is so much going on that none of the individual notes really stand out to me. I understand Edge of the Night is used as a base for all the scents in the "The Night" series. That makes sense somehow, because I feel like tweaking it a little (or layering) could elevate it to a whole other level. It's a bit ironic, because Edge of the Night is such a dense blend packed with a lot of heavy elements, but still I feel like it's lacking something.
