Midnight Eye

I enjoy this smell. It reminds me of an autumn season candle. The warm, sweet smells of a Hobby Lobby or Kirkland's during Halloween season. It is a comforting smell.

Trying to challenge myself and grow my palette so I ordered this from Solstice thinking it would be doable despite my averseness to oud and patchouli. I would not call myself a lover of those notes, but I do love chocolate, coffee, tonka, etc. The website describes this as a dark gourmand. When I first dabbed it on... I felt like my cat when he runs away from his litterbox... a primal GET IT AWAY response lol (picture GOB - I've made a huge mistake.) I wanted to give it and myself a chance though and I'm glad I stuck with it. Within 30 minutes, the INTENSE patchouli, oud, labdanum started to give way to tobacco with a very interesting sweetness to it, I imagine the tonka and cacao. It is an intimate scent that I would catch when adjusting my headphones, holding my phone up, etc. and I was pleasantly surprised that I didn't hate it! I kept imagining myself as a hardened detective in a noir. I don't think I would repeat this experience, but I'm glad I went through it. 7 out of 10.

(This is my first review, kinda nervous.) I own 4 S.S. fragrances. While this one is my least favorite, it is LEAGUES above all my other fragrances. In the opening, there is the strong smoky feel with coffee that tingles our nose, almost overpowering but not quite. In the mid, (2-4 hour range) the smokiness starts to blend with cacao, slowly settling into it's sweet sticky nature. In the full dry down, this fragrance smells like straight up pancake syrup. SUPER sticky and sweet, like I bathed in Mrs. Butterworths. Overall 7.9/10 Opening 8/10 Mid 7/10 Dry Down 6/10 Projection 9/10 Longevity 9.5/10 In conclusion, if you're a dark gourmand type of person, this is right up your alley. S.S. has a huge selection of samples to chose from. Please check them out! But in my opinion, not for me.
