Parlor Trick

What a fantastic scent! I can't call it a perfume, because Parlor Trick is so much more than that, especially since it shifts and morphs all the time. It opens with thick globs of wax, wafts of candle smoke, and just a touch of spice along the lines of caraway. It is sweet overall, but not in an edible way. Puffs of oud, old, bone-dry cedar, and a low, buzzing vanilla creep in along the drydown. Sometimes, a mirage of burgundy rose appears, but it blinks out of existence just as quickly. Parlor Trick feels like a thick haze of scent. You can perceive so many different notes, but often times they are just out of reach. I do not often have such a uniquely interactive experience with a scent, but Parlor Trick seems like it is playing games with me!

Creamy and woodsy, vanilla. It dries down to very sweet, milky and almost syrupy. My husband once said he smelled syrup when I was wearing it. It's cuddly and warm too. I'm definitely obsessed right now, it's all I want to wear.

Good lord. Wait for the drydown. Trust the process. Holy sh!t this is amazing. The opening starts off a little weird but the dry down makes up for it in spades 😍😍

This really must be a chameleon, as I don't get hardly any of the same notes as UnearthlyApoth! I get only the white notes: candle wax, lace, and paper. Smoke disappears on me, so that's not present. I get a hint of tea and maybe a bit of white wood, but definitely no spices or rose. Because it's so light and fresh smelling on me, it would be most suitable for warmer weather. I blind bought a 5ml oil, so I plan to play around with it. For example, right now it's layered over the much more masculine and sturdy Gibbons Boarding school, which is pretty darn cool - it's like the boarding school is being haunted by a Victorian woman carrying a candelabra! I think it would also go great with Library if I wanted to really play up the already strong paper notes.

I like this scent a lot! It is quite sweet with the vanilla but the rose adds a nice delicate softness to it. I'm not usually a fan of rose scents but here it's very light and delicate, compliments the vanilla nicely and isn't soapy at all. I also get a lot of woodiness which I love. Its a true wood scent too, like fresh cut logs. It's creamy and fresh, approaching spice but not really. It never gets to that sharpness that some wood notes can get for me. Just a lovely balance of sweet vanilla and wood. I enjoy this scent a lot.

This is lovely! A very creamy sweet scent. I get lots of vanilla and rose - im not usually a fan of rose but it's not soapy here with the vanilla, they blend into a nice soft, rich sweetness. The woody notes are also very clear and add a nice contrast. It's like being wrapped in a cozy blanket in a log cabin with something sweet just about to be done in the oven. I like this a lot for a gourmand choice.

One of my faves from SS, I agree the waxy-ness can be syrupy, this perfume is potent and well lasting. I started with a roller extrait and then had to have the EDP. I get some "dill" in this, but I find it interesting instead of pickles. It's also a thick haze as described below too. Man, this nails the atmosphere! It's calming (lazy, victorian) but yet creepy and dusty. I just love it.

I smell nice cigars - tobacco, smoke, and some spice. Later vanilla comes in, unfortunately, - I wish it didn't have that much sweetness. But it smells mysterious, and unique. I like. I agree with "creepy and dusty" description below. Reminds me of perfumes "Shade" by Lush, and Dune by Dior.
