Smokewood Apiary

Holy smokes this is amazing! I love a good honey note, but honey in perfumes often ends up too sweet or too overpowered by notes like vanilla. This one is unabashedly honey heavy, and I love it. My skin apparently just eats up smoky notes, so I get very little smoke in this one - though it's likely there keeping it from skewing too sweet. I get much more of a creamy honey with a touch of woodsy notes. I tried the oil (best blind buy ever) with a single spritz of the EDP over it, and it lasted about 6 hours indoors and outside on a 52 degree day. It stays pretty close to the skin, but for some reason every once in a while I'll get a sudden whiff of it and good gracious it's gorgeous. This is a seriously comforting fragrance for people who want something warm and soothing but get tired of run of the mill vanilla. I'll be very curious to see how it stacks up to a certain other very popular honey-based perfume. We'll see when my sample of that one arrives! Either way, I hope SS will bring the glace of this one back soon, since I'd snap up a few bottles in a heartbeat! "Having tried out Bee, I'd say SS's Smokewood is darker, more made for cool weather, and richer. Bee has a lot more floral and orange in it. Solstice Scents wins the honey-based perfume game for me, and it's a good thing because it's cheaper!*

Hi, me again, simping for Angela's smoke scents. SS just does woods and smokes SO well and Smokewood Apiary is no different. I expected this to be a "heavy" scent with notes like honey, smoke, and amber, but it's very well-mixed. I think the woods keep the honey from being overly realistic which is a win as a lot of realistic honey scents can lean pissy and cloying. I don't think you would classify this as a gourmand. This is wood steeped in honey and smoke, versus a honey scent with touch of wood. I've gotten decent longevity from the oil and look forward to trying the EDP. This is one of my current favorite scents of all time.

Woow, it’s a stunning scent for me, first the smoke was too smoky but second times it’s a very warm and pleasant one (with the beeswax). I have a little walnut feelings (weaker then Amouage Interlude but definetly there is). I like the girly scent but this unixex beauty is ok for me colder season-it has a mystical vibe. I will buy a whole bottle soon...

It took me a while to figure out exactly what this captures because its such a soft, comforting smell. It's like the faintest whisper of smoke, but just a beautiful beeswax and honey smell. Like beeswax melting in a pot over a fire in the cottage used to process honeycombs.

Unlike apparently everyone else, I actually don't get much smoke off of this. What I DO get is a lovely, subtle fresh beeswax and honey on clean wooden countertops, a sweet but not foody vanilla and a dash of ginger powder to add a bit of a bite. On drydown it turns into something a little woodier, but still soft. It stays close to my skin and it isn't particularly strong, which is just fine by me. It has evoked a powerful scent memory in me of a local goods shop in a tiny picturesque New England town near my home I used to go to when I was a kid, that almost entirely sold hand crafted beeswax products running the range from complex little sculptures to skincare products. The shop sat right on the bank of a river and in the spring the open windows would carry the smell of fresh air and wildflowers. When I smell this on my skin through all its stages, it smells exactly like walking into that shop on a warm spring day. Beautiful.

296 This is not the thick hay-like, pollen honey or the really musky powdery kind. This is a vibrant fresh bright honey with a touch of sawdust. Not a fan once the sawdust note surfaces but it is nice. There is no smoke at all, which is fine with me. 7/10-unique natural honey scent

delicious, lightly honeyed woodsmoke. if youre expecting an intense, photo-realistic honey scent, look elsewhere. this is still a gorgeous scent in its own right though, very warming and cozy

Very sweet and creamy. Realistic honey and bees wax. Nice woody notes in the dry down. It's just too sweet for me. I can't find the smoke anywhere. No ginger either. I need my sweetness to have an edge for balance. Unfortunately I'm having a hard time finding the smoke in some of these Solstice Scents samples. I am not sure how I feel about this one really. It smells almost like pure creamed honey on me- in that sense it's very realistic and evocative. However, it is so sweet on me almost in the way that is a little sickening. I think this would go really well with more of a woodsy scent so I'm going to layer it perhaps with Sawmill or Attic because I think that would be lovely!

This is a really interesting fragrance. I was really intrigued by the honey, as I'm on the hunt for the most perfect honey perfume. But alas, this just didn't work for me. I think I was looking for something softer, but the smokiness is just very pronounced. I wore this on a cool day, which is what I recommend. My 5 year-old son smelled me towards the evening and asked me, "Mommy, why do you smell like that? Wash it off." He's used to my usual gourmands. Definitely sample first.

Harvesting fragrant honeycomb from the hives at Smokewood Apiary is a concept captured in this oil-based extrait. The pure, sticky sweetness is soon disrupted by an odd, conflicting ginger note that dissipates in the dry-down, joined by a hint of wood. I picked this scent as part of my sample pack and I loved it! Gorgeous honey scent. I purchased the perfume version and all I get is nose burnin smoke, so so disappointed 😔

Smells the way those throat losinges made of Iceland moss taste like. It's fine but not for me.

Dayuuuuum. I love it and I don’t even like smokey notes normally. The phrase that comes to mind when I wear this is really “wearable art” - I don’t mean that in a pretentious way, I just mean that it paints a very vivid olfactory picture that conjures up a crisp autumnal visit to the apiary- honey, floral honey, ginger honey, vanilla and beeswax and wood and woodsmoke. If you truly do not like smoke notes I would still recommend testing but not an outright purchase but if there are some perfumes with smokey notes you’ve enjoyed and you like the smell of honey you really can’t go wrong with this. To me the smokey notes are quite apparent but amazingly well blended and executed - smoke can sometimes smell synthetic and to my mind that is one of the most unpleasant things - intensely synthetic liquid smoke scent or flavour. This is not that... It’s lovely, strikingly real woodsmoke - insistent but balanced by the intense burst of sweetness of the amazingly natural smelling honeys - and that really is “honeys” plural. It’s a very rich and varied honey scent that captures many different honeyed profiles. I was surprised and how good the performance is on this one - I expected the honeyed notes to be very soft but they are pure, concentrated thick golden and concentrated honey goodness. This isn’t a loose take on a fall day apiary visit - close your eyes and you’re actually there. It’s quite striking and a very lovely experience. When solstice scents produced a winner it’s breathtaking- they really are incredible artists.

When I first rec'd this, about 2 weeks ago, it was TOO SMOKY. But it settled down into a super honey/beeswax with powdery sweetness, and since the EDP is still in stock.... I'm going to stare at that all day. :) (I blind bought the oil) The beginning is still smoky and the honey is VERY realistic... however, I applied my oil roll ALL OVER for work and it has dried down to something more "perfumey" than a realistic candle. Easily wearable now. I love it. It's now 2pm (been wearing the oil for 6 hours) and I like this so much I DID buy the EDP. This gives off a modernized vintage smell from the honey-powder-woods, like a modern day Avon Occur. I love this, and will stalk my tracking # until I can spray the EDP! I have about 25 rollers from SS and you absolutely MUST let them settle, they go thru many changes while they settle. The oil also gets stronger as it settles. The EDP is here, and it's EVERYTHING. Very potent (SA is one of the strongest sillages from SS IMO) and great throw. I ADORE THIS. I also get shades of Bal a Versailles and Shocking by Schiaparelli.

It's as if I woke up after a night at a bonfire, without washing my hair, and I drizzle fresh honey off the wand onto myself. That's essentially how it smells. Sorry for the weird imagery. The two main players are definitely honey and smoke. I, personally, can smell all the other notes, but they are just whispers behind the yells of the aforementioned. Because of the smoky presence, I think this is a really versatile fragrance for day or night. I would see this as an appropriate fragrance for any time of the year other than the hot summer daytime- nighttime is still fair game. If you like honey, and/or smoky incense-y type frags - check this out!

Very, very smoky. I honestly don't get much honey at all. But it really does make you smell like you've been sitting in front of a bonfire. It needs to rest; when I first got it I thought it smelled like a dusty house inhabited by incense-burning hippies. After letting it rest a few weeks it's different. Perhaps additional resting time will bring out the honey more. It's a very interesting scent, I've never smelled something quite like it, in a good way

This is a smoky, sexy honey scent. It’s unlike anything in my collection, and it’s gorgeous. It’s full-bodied, incense-y, and reminds me of the way old wood-burning stoves smell when your momaw is cooking breakfast on one (IYKYK). I would recommend getting a sample first (as honey is a quite polarizing note for a lot of people), but I definitely recommend it!

Smoked wood and honey, I love this so much because it reminds me of the cottage in Resident Evil/Biohazard that has the Bees/Wasps and also gives me Wickerman vibes. Sexy, Witchy, Dark. A little dirty but also sweet/soft (I feel as thouugh this has a hidden floral) and a little creamy.
