Violet Mallow

Intriguing! I kept seeing review of Solstice Scents and their Rose Mallow, but I'm not really a rose type of person, so I figured I'd try the violet to get a feel for what all the hype was about. I'm glad I ordered a sample of this one! Despite the limited number of notes, this is a unique fragrance, in large part (to me) because the marshmallow is not that over-sweet gourmand found in a lot of scents, which can often make them read too young for my taste. The mallow in this is....just different. And it's in the background with the vanilla. The violet is at the forefront, and it's a slightly dusty, vintage violet. I can see this being worn by a French woman in the 1920s. My dress style is very retro, so this perfume works well for me, and it seems perfect for my age range and lifestyle (late 30s academic/writer.)

I absolutely adore this fragrance and it's been my signature for almost 2 years! It's such a lovely sweet powdery violet with a vintage face powder feel. I feel so luxurious when I wear this fragrance, it's like I can imagine an elegant lady from the 1930s in her boudoir spritzing this on before an evening out. If you're a fan of vintage sweet powdery florals or floral gourmands then I highly recommend this fragrance. ( This also kinda reminds me of how the revlon glass shine lipstick smells though that product has more of a cherry scent)

So pretty and sweet! A perfect scent for a princess. It is not particularly complex but it is well executed. As the label states, I get dainty fresh and slightly powdery violets on a fluffy bed of literal marshmallow. There's the Solstice Scents-aide undercurrent of slightly resinous vanilla way underneath the flourmand notes. Very sweet but not cloying. Not sharp or elegant the way Insolence is- I like Insolence too but they're very different in character. Violet Mallow is cute and cozy. Nicely done!

I ❤ Violet Mallow. I've tried both the oil and the EDP and I have the 5ml oil in because the oil wears much longer on me than the EDP. Once applied, I don't smell any musk ever, just a very appealing mix of violets and vanilla marshmallow. I ❤ Solstice Scents and other than Black Mallow, I've encountered no other disappointments with anything else that I have tried from there. Rating: 🍒🍒🍒🍒🍒 Cruelty free 🐾

On me this is pure lipstick! It's quite close to a particular Lancome I own, and I *think* it's quite like L'Oreal too. Sillage/projection is surprisingly good, and is mostly the violet note. Up close I get more of the marshmallow/white chocolate/vanilla. Very much a doll's head, cosmetic-y scent.

Fresh and floral. It has a powdery lipstick scent as well. It reminds me of being a child and smelling my grandmas lipsticks because i loved how it smelt. The marshmallow note came to me hours later once i applied it again. i’m in love with this fragrance!

This is so delicate and yummy. Like candied flower petals. Powdery and soft. Slightly reserved. Demure. Romantic. Very light. Sugar made into intricate glass confections placed on a table with doilies and a tulipiere.

I agree with the last review. Very cosmetic and lipsticky scent. Absolute love.

I received a sample of the extrait of this with my order. This fragrance is very unique and I think there's more going on than just the notes listed. The violet/musk combination is very deep and heavy, a bit like orris root, sesame, or ambrette. It's surprisingly masculine. I agree with many of the reviews below that this is less of a gourmand and more in the vein of a cosmetic/lipstick type scent. The marshmallow is quite faint. I'm interested to try the EDP spray version.

the opening is super sweet, almost gave me a headache, but as it dried it became more powdery and almost vintage smelling, like i was transported to the 20s or 30s. Though it doesnt have much going on in the way of complexity, its still so clean and pretty. i love when florals actually smell like the flower and not just generic Feminine Perfume Smell

The mallow fragrances from Solstice Scents seem to be very popular and I can see why. Violet Mallow is fabulous! Earthy violets wrapped in a sweet and creamy marshmallow fluff. Powdery and musky. This floral gourmand is soft, feminine, and romantic. Outstanding.

Sweet, powdery, clean smell. A good "non-brainer" fragrance to have. Reminds me of Musk Mood by Lattafa, but longer lasting. Good for that "clean" girl aesthetic.

Cloying powder. This is my confirmation that violets do not work for me. Iris doesn’t either. On a little patch test, it is okay. I even questioned if I prefer this to Rose Mallow. But wearing it fully, it is just powder city. It smells like old makeup and lipstick with that distinct iris note.

Violet Mallow shocked me. I expected something sweet and powdery, perhaps reminiscent of Insolence. It's not. In the early 00s, there were a lot more bath, body and household products that were violet scented. But they didn't have that freshly powdered or sweet parma violet kind of smell; they were bright, creamy, sweet, slightly ozonic or "melon" like, and undeniably "purple" smelling. In particular, there was a violet scented hand soap my grandma had at her house and I would pretend to get dirty or sticky just to use it. It was the first smell I ever fell in love with, age 4-5. I credit that soap with starting me on my fragrance addiction. I began violently buying up sample after sample of "violet" scents (Lolita, Insolence, Daisy etc) and none of them were even remotely similar, even if I did end up liking them for other reasons. The closest I ever got to that smell was Suave violet-sweet pea deodorant and pure orris butter. Eventually I found so many fragrances I loved I stopped my search for a dupe of that soap. Well, 9 years later, here it is. What nice memories it brings.

I'm not usually a big fan of floral perfumes but this is an exception. It is very feminine, vintage and delectable all rolled into one. It's sweet but not tooth ache sweet to me. The musk and vanilla balance the violet and marshmallow. The violet and white musk are the most prominent to me I have the oil, ganache and the glace. I love them all but they don't all smell the same. I find the glace and oil compliment each other better than the ganache because of the cocoa butter. But.... the ganache is fabulous for dry hands! It's the best ever!! I know Angela would love to see her business growing. Her products are the best!

Lovable, little candy-heart scent. Very doughy, tactile, lotion-y, and buttercreamy. Powdery Parma violets and fairy-dust vanilla. Actually came to know about Solstice from my local post office clerk in Indiana. I had shipped so many perfumes from that office before we ever talked perfumery, but imagine my surprise when one day the clerk told me she is friends with Angela St. John. Then I noticed she had a bottle of sixteen92 lotion at her work station (fig & tomato leaf?). Small world.

This is a lovely perfume, even if you're not super into powder. The powder itself is smooth and sort of 'packed' so it doesn't fly everywhere and suffocate you. It funnily conjures an image of a gaseous purple, feminine but devious genie. She's easygoing and has a magnetic presence, but is that evil in her laugh? I'm actually referring to a genie from one of the story lines of a Goosebumps book called Scream of the Evil Genie.

for me, this is very much in the same vein of margiela's lipstick on. a sweet cosmetic scent, with emphasis on the violet and powder and not much on the mallow. i was hoping for more of a candied marshmallow scent so this didn't work for me, but if you love cosmetic scents, this is beautiful and much more affordable than lipstick on!

I absolutely love this. Although, I don't get the typical impression from it that others do. Something about it makes it smell tropical and summery to me, evoking a very strong memory of childhood beach days. Maybe my brain is connecting it to the type of sunscreen we wore on those days. I don't know. It is a fantastic scent, though.

Very pleasant scent! Powdery-fluffy-airy sweet iris with added citruses! I don't believe there're no citruses in here!!! Very fresh, but not cleaning product fresh! Easy to wear and crowd pleasing scent! Is it unique - no, do I like it - yes!

I've been searching for the perfect violet gourmand, and this is the closest I've gotten. I bought a sample of the EDP and immediately ordered the full bottle!
