Nostalgie

Oh my, Nostalgie is GORGEOUS! This perfume is like a voluptuous, curvaceous woman--a full-bodied fragrance that makes me blush. It's a modern perfume with a vintage twist, for those who long for the quality of the true "perfumes" of yesteryear. Nostalgie captures that old-fashioned style. The perfume smells like quality florals (no carnations in this bouquet!) darkened by a soft balminess, a touch of leather, and a whisper of powder. I smell lots of beeswax, which is the best part for me. The scent reminds me of Chanel No. 22. But make no mistake--Nostalgie is no impostor or copycat of any classic fragrance. It's its own creation. What a romantic and feminine perfume. It takes me back to a place in time when women only wore perfume on special occasions, if one was wealthy enough to even own such a thing (it makes me feel vulgar for wearing perfume ever single day!). Or maybe it was worn on a date, to make a man fall in love. You will surely feel like a beautiful goddess wearing Nostalgie.

When I sampled this as a dabber the opening combination of prominent vetiver with aldehydes was too bitter for me; but it rapidly turned into the most gorgeous peach floral ever that I just had to get a small bottle. Sadly, as a spray that divine peach heart was totally lost and the vetiver dominated the whole composition. (Definitely test it by spraying.) It starts out very bitter and gradually becomes more sweet. I can never pick out a distinct peach note now. For a while I was sad and disappointed but I have grown to love it again (although not as much as before). This is a very sophisticated chypre--always my go to for when I want to impress at an event or party. It is a beautiful perfume but I am not sure if I will repurchase when I run out. Since I am using it mostly just for special occasions my small bottle is lasting quite a long time.

I'm a genuine vintage (ie old) person and my perfume cabinet is probably 2/3 vintage. I don't want to spend my days wading through the insanity that is Ebay to find good fragrances, but growing up in the 70s when drugstore stuff had 100+ ingredients and lasted through a shower spoiled me. So finding Nostalgie, and SSS in general, is just like a ray of light from the heavens. Vintage quality with modern freshness. Everytime I sniff this, I'm amazed all over again at it's radiant beauty. Nostalgie is right at home in my cabinet, with the unmistakeable quality of it's ingredients, the longevity, the sillage. It's not a copy of anything else either. Wonderful. Well blended floral chypre with notes of too many things for me to name; rose, beeswax, peach, violet, moss, resins. Wearing this always makes me feel happy.

A modern vintage if that makes sense. This perfumes opens with the softest aldehydes which fade to the most heavenly creamy fragrance. There is a melding of juicy peaches and rose, violets and beeswax, which form this heavenly aroma. The drydown is delicate, green, creamy, woody, slightly sweetened by the patch but this is by no means sweet in the true sense. Every note is sensual and sexy, this fragrance is like stepping into a 1940's beauty parlour. The vintage accord has been reached very successfully but the perfume isn't difficult, harsh or bitter. This is a rich, dense, creamy floral. While it's difficult for me to pick out the notes, like other reviewers I get the beeswax and sandalwood quite strongly, and I would go along with jasmine, rose and patchouli. For me Nostalgie is in the same family as Patou's Joy and Estee Lauder's Beautiful, although if you dislike Beautiful, don't be put off trying Nostalgie. It is strong, but yet more subtle than Beautiful. It fascinates me that Nostalgie references older style fragrances (not the 1890s, none of us know what the 1890s smelled like) without smelling in the least dated itself.

like expensive perfume house; top is a bit herbal and bitter but dries down like a Caron; vintage without civet and oakmoss but with the feel; like the top of a Tauer without his DNA; aldehydes, myrrh, rose, jasmine, violet, peach, sandalwood, oakmoss, musk, patchouli, vetiver, hint of suede but not creamy, sharp floral aldehyde; the base is a musk bomb mimicking the power of civet but not quite civet, of course

To me, when this first hit my skin I got a really boozy, peachy cognac and myrhh, followed by rose, beeswax, leather, oakmoss and violet. There is a retro-ness to this, but the overall notes are too clean to be anything other than modern giving a uniqueness to this perfume. It's romantic, sensual, feminine, and sexy, with a certain blast to the past quality.....I think this is one to add to my collection.

On me, this brings a strong and syrupy-sweet burst of honey at first, with sandalwood following closely behind. There's a little bit of iris. Before long, peach joins these notes, along with a very faint scent of rose. I get some patchouli later on. Vanilla is present, but is overwhelmed by the honey. It stays very sweet, too much so for my taste. A young friend of mine said this reminded her strongly of something her grandfather used to wear, so I guess it is indeed reminiscent of older-style scents! The projection is modest but far from nonexistent. The longevity isn't great; it lasts about an hour with some projection, then another two or three as a skin scent. If you like sweet scents, or if your skin doesn't make fragrances skew sweeter (as mine usually does), and you're looking for something classic but also a little different, this would be a good choice.

To bow to the past but not be bound by it Thats a good attempt to recapture the main features of vintage perfumes. Leathery beewax on me straight away, deep, oldy polished by fresh beewax leather, calm aldehydes and rose in myrrh, oakmoss. I have nothing more to wish for, really, well done! P.S. Not for office, mind you. Its too sensual) Perfumer's Comments: I wanted to create a perfume based on notes from the classic scents I love, but updated with lighter animalic notes and softer aldehydes. The formula is very high in naturals, with the synthetic aldehydes, lactones, and musks acting as supporting players to the beautiful floral absolutes. The mimosa and violet leaf absolutes both have interesting natural leather nuances, and the Mysore sandalwood provides a lovely soft base for the floral notes without overpowering them.

It smells like honey, pure and simple and loud HONEY. If you cannot get this in Europe, or want to spend less, I suggest you sample MFK Absolue pour le Soir. I have tested them side by side, perfect dupes.

Champagne-like fizzy green aldyhedic opening that's a bit bitter / chemical. Then a Civet/indolic jasmine + oakmossy + peach aldehye heart that screams classic perfume! A blend of Mitsouko (like) and Chanel Cristalle (dislike)? There's something in this opening that also reminds me of the base of Gres Cabotine. My skin seems to eat this scent though - the opening is a bit too strong for my taste, though I'm biased against aldehyde fizz, but the mid and base of the perfume are extremely soft and don't project on me. Visually, it seems to be a clear green scent. I wish I got more of the warm, sensual notes like beeswax and leather. Interesting, but ultimately not my type of perfume.

Opening was pleasant though unremarkable. Archetypal throwback scent. Benzoin soon became overwhelming, but I despise benzoin so it could just be me.

187 Based on the notes and name, this should be gorgeous. But, I can barely smell anything. Maybe I got a bad sample? But it’s the second sample I’ve had of this one, and the first time it was strong but again mostly oakmoss with a few other notes. What I do get here is plastic, oakmoss, and a celery-like note. 0/10 what’s going on here?

Although Nostalgie wears its heart on its sleeve, this is a reverential citation rather than an attempt to plagiarize the past. Fans of the classic aldehydyic monsters of French perfumery will get a major kick out of this as it manipulates the genre tastefully by cranking up the brightness of the florals and adding depth and dimensionality through a substantial use of natural materials. It’s big, bitter, and boisterous—a loud foghorn that should appeal to fans of both classical and powerhouse fragrances alike. Like others from this line, this scent has been balanced and polished to perfection, and what you get is a prominent rose juxtaposed against a soft mimosa with an indolic jasmine—floral notes to the max. These florals—equal parts tart and sweet—are backed by a series of green, sylvan notes such as violet (the non-candied kind) and a series of stem-type chords that play up against a layer of tonka humming along throughout. The base, like others from the line, is a well-proportioned sandalwood / oak moss combination that keeps its distance until the top / heart notes start to burn off. A slight soapiness goes head-to-head with a subtle musk (more animalic than laundry), adding texture and dimension to round out the overall effect. As mentioned, this scent is immense; and unlike a vintage Chanel that creates enough room for the aldehydes to move, this is bodied and bursting out. The florals are emphatic, and the bitterness is prominent, but neither are handled boorishly. Instead, the scent sings its tribute to genres that many an aficionado will remember fondly. It’s balanced with precision, and indicative of the kind of adherence that the perfumer provides in these scents; no note feels out of place. While the genre might not be everyone’s cup of tea, for those who appreciate bitter classics such as No. 19 and Cristalle—and for the unbeatable price-to-quality ratio alone, this should go straight to the top of your list.

I"m so glad I waited before reviewing this; it doesn't hit its stride for an hour. The opening smells of 'something not found' and an annoying, astringent note kept me from embracing it. In time this fades and as others have attested, gives way to a creamy, earthy floral. Laurie's creations always 'take me some place', emotionally and visually, and here I am transported to a wave battered beach, devoid of sand or cheery flowers. But it's warm here, and I feel good just basking in the sun and sensing the earth beneath my feet. I'm not nostalgic as much as hopeful; those flowers will come back yet! The earth beneath my feet is my solid foundation, my connection to all that is good and comforting. I can definitely see the connection to Chanel's aldehyde divas. If that is your calling do give this a try, but do recognize that is a more 'natural' perfume and your experience will have more nuances.

This is a beautiful vintage aldehydic floral. Think Chanel #5 but wearable! I'm not a fan of #5 but I like the idea of wearing aldehydic vintage style fragrances but many of them can be harsh, overwhelming and just plain unwearable, at least for me. This is a really lovely. Lots of aldehydes in this one but they are not harsh, the florals are a nuance as they usually are in aldehydic fragrances, you get an idea of flowers, but they are abstract. The resins are there but abstract. This fragrance is very powdery so if you don't like powdery vintage style fragrances this one will not be for you. This perfume has a beautiful vintage vibe but is very wearable for today.

This is the second scent I have tried from Sonoma Scent Studio and this is an amazing beauty. It is modern and retro, "now" and vintage all at the same time. The aldehydes are not screechy, but give the scent a pop of brightness that balances the deepness of the base notes. Perfect balance and perfect use of myrrh and oakmoss, two notes that many perfumers over-use. The beeswax comes through, bringing out the florals and making them richer. This fragrance is absolute perfection and I have to have a full bottle. Wow, is all I can say!

Myrrh and aldehydes, mostly aldehydes, with traces of other floral in the background... Overall, not a fan of this scent, but it is a DAMN fine scent. I'm moreso into woods, resins, a bit of stank, lots of base, etc., and this is quite pleasant and dainty. So far, my SSS adventures with the discovery pack has been wonderful with a lot of scents that I normally wouldn't try or like. Even though I am yet to find something that grabs me, I've really enjoyed trialling these out and am really enjoying the journey I'm going on...

Reminds me of a few 80's scents, kind of reminiscent of Estee Lauder's Beautiful, and Tiffany by Tiffany. I also get elements of Estee Lauder's Estee in this. Its a big floral scent, I would say fairly dressy. I get jasmine as the prominent floral, sweetened by the peach and grounded by some oakmoss. I really don't pick up any aldehydes in this. If you like big florals give this one a try. It's done very well. It does smell vintage in an eighties kind of way.

This perfume reminded me of a highly corseted woman in the 1890's. Lovely, knows her worth. It feels established and good. I am enthralled by the use of beeswax (love that smell)! This is a marvelous perfume, worthy of your consideration.

The Sandalwood is the most long lasting base in the world of perfumes.
