Greasque

The opening is tough simply because of the spearmint. I think if it was more fresh mint, the natural kind not the candy type of oil, then it would be more successful. I like spearmint but I think it clashes with the basil. After about an hour, spearmint starts to fade and the rest of the notes come to life. This is where it starts to get good so don't give up too early. There doesn't seem to be a pyramid of notes of any kind. Everything is jumbled up together. Why it's like that I'm not sure. Everything has a reason, so I'm guessing this is not about a story but rather an atmosphere. It's about being in a particular space rather than a moment like other perfume creators tend to manufacture. Knowing that Greasque is the birthplace of the owner is important because it starts to unravel the story for me. Each note is probably from a different source within the environment and the wind perhaps blowing in your face, you end up with a brushstroke of this fragrance. It turns out this composition is inspiring after all.

The notes here bring me right back to walking through my grandmothers garden and helping her pick fresh herbs. The basil, mint, sage, and the woodsy notes really make this a scent memory for me that I love.

This one is a bit different from the others. It needs more patience to get to know, instead of an instant love. The first hour is very fresh mint in a garden with basil. Really photorealistic fresh herbs. After an hour it starts mellowing out and starting to change. Clary sage and vetiver start to appear giving it a more earthy tone instead of fresh green. By two hours, the fresh mint and herbs are completely gone and it's actually a slightly sweet scent. The caramel comes through, joining the aromatic clary sage and vetiver. I like this stage quite a bit more. The carmel increases in intensity, making It closer to Brocealande, at this point. It's sill a fragrance that rides a bit closer to the body. When I received the discovery set, some others immediately captured my heart, leaving this one on the back burner in comparison. After having given this one a proper chance, I actually quite like it. I honestly don't know what I could compare it to.

I do not find Greasque an easy fragrance to love but it has grown on me over time. As others have noted this is a very green, herbal invention; leaning towards the medicinal at times and very, very strong. (Walk through a room and the scent will cling to the air within it for half an hour or more after you have gone!) The most dominant notes (basil, peppermint and clary sage) are strongest in the opening but linger resolutely until the somewhat more woodsy dry down. On the way a big hit of galbanum and grassy vetiver play their part. I would find it difficult to be in the same room as someone wearing this for long. Although it has a curious, austere quality the sum of its parts are a tad overwhelming. By all means wear it and enjoy it but be careful not to over-spray!

Greasque is a like at first sniff for me. I'm surprised, because I've not always like Sora Dora offerings (I'm through their discovery set). Greasque is green, very fresh and unisex (leaning a bit on the masculine side). Basil and peppermint combine to make this super green, super fresh sensation when you first spray on the skin. On the very deep drydown you get the woodsy notes, with cedar and vetiver. Great longevity (at least on my skin) and moderate sillage. I'm pleasantly surprised by Greasque.

What a herb bomb. Peppery, basil, minty, thyme, bitter and green like they have been mashed up in a mortar and pestle. The galbanum isn’t too much, but I would probably like it more with less of the strong green bitterness it brings. I appreciate the purity of vision here but it’s too literal and culinary leaning for me to want to wear it - fun to sniff though. Might be the most herbal perfume I’ve ever smelled and it is not going to be for everyone, but worth smelling if you like green scents.

Nice green basil on this one..quite likeable

This one is so weird and nostalgic and it's stressing me out. It smells like white-tube Blistex. It smells like Nicorette. It smells like hot (cig) breath semi-masked by a Listerine dissolving mouth strip. It smells like a stressful morning commute, where you're running 2 mins behind schedule and you'll arrive on time/make your train/bus, etc. if you just [insert chaotic move here]. It smells like being lectured that you need to plan better. I can't explain it, but it's giving me quotidian anxiety.

Harsh opening ... caramel note doesn't blend.

I love a mint fragrance (Herba Fresca and You or Someone Like You are often worn). I found this initially a little crowded on first spray which made me reflect how well orchestrated the former fragrances are. On me this is a strong peppermint competing with Basil. It reminded me a little of heady, unsmoked green cannabis when it’s horribly strong and almost medicinal. Mid I get the salvaging note of blackcurrant which I love so probably sought out. Saved by the dry down which is a warm wood. It’s certainly niche, unique. Not for me but if you want a non fresh green herbal it’s worth checking out.

opens very strong with Mint and Basil. (like a nona in the kitchen making sauce)hints of bergamot but very faint. Warm, aromatic, Clary Sage (where the chunky tomato at) pepper notes warm this up and then just a spicy green throughout. slightly like fennel for a bit. It does get sweeter on the dry-down. . This is not a like for me personally and I dont wish to smell it on a man IMO. Different for sure. Basta, now i want pizza ;)

No comments... I do understand this supposed to be a piece of art, and it is. But the comment bellow perfectly describes the emotions you’re getting from experiencing this masterpiece. Absolutely not my fragrance. I do can handle it if there is just a small amount of it on man for example. But I don’t want to smell it closely...

Could not stand the smell even for a minute. This thing stinks. Really harsh opening, like one of the worst smelling medicines.

Mint and metal with an odd wood. 3/10

A crazy... good? Mess. Good in the sense that it's unique, makes a statement, and I would say teeters right on the edge of feeling cohesive and clever in how they've managed to put so many odd contrasts in here. It's not something I would wear that often though. I mainly pick up a vegetable-like stewed aroma that I vaguely remember coming from the mildly less unusual Iris Malikhan (rich, buttery, slightly barnyard sweetness) or maybe some other oddball orris root perfume from Naomi Goodsir. It's deeply herbal and rooty, with a sweet richness bringing it all together. Basil and mint manage to get some of their piercing sharp green qualities to poke through, but they feel almost trapped in the thick of it all. Another perfume that comes to mind is one of Thameen's recent brit cologne releases (maybe Fanfare?). It's bold, intensely aromatic, and built around a structure of fruity-freshness turned way more mature and mildly off-putting. Very fun perfumery if you ask me, and I'm intrigued enough to try some more.

Pickles, baby stink bugs and a damp spice cabinet inside an old abandoned manor during an Urbex exploration. Beetlejuice probably smells like this.

If you like your scents green, this is the one. Greasque is all about the mint and basil. Extremely photorealistic.
