Cuir d'Orient

A tranquil musky suede supported by cherry-almond heliotrope, the gossamer quality of Cuir d'Orient may elude those who expect a heartier delivery, but it levitates just above the skin for a good while. It has that same sort of aura as Serge Lutens Daim Blond, wispy and intimate, yet covertly seductive. I will agree with another reviewer that the dry down after a few hours smells very much like opoponax absolute, bittersweet, toffee-like and granular in nose feel. It's one that I would file under olfactory night caps, one to spray on oneself after donning one's pajamas and drifting into dreamland.

I do agree with some of the previous comments - it is an intimate sillage perfume, but it makes it up by being quite a long lasting one. It definitely turns feminine on my skin - powdery, comforting, warm. It has a bit of edge though, it’s not linear and develops beautifully into musky blanket after an hour or so. I managed to get it for around £80 (100ml) in tkmaxx. I would purchase again at that price point, but not for more. I wore it on a rainy London day and it was absolutely perfect, I wonder how it performs on a warm Spring day though.

It’s such a beautiful fragrance. It goes very suede-powdery-honey on me. I guess honey note is coming from vanilla in combination with other notes and my skin. Very beautiful. I’d love it to be slightly louder, just a bit, but it’s purely my personal preference ☺️

I have been meaning to write a review / message about this fragrance for months. Its almost been a year I tried it. Ordered a sample from their website. And I can agree that this one is indeed a very good replacement for Cuir Beluga of Guerlain. This one may be a bit more suede heavier in the beginning. However after a few minutes its turns very powdery just like I like it. This is Cuir Beluga long lost Twin sibling who resurfaced after many years :-D. This is the kind of scents which makes you huggable ;-) .

Based on the original recipe of a love potion from the 19th century in France, I really like this suede-iris-vanilla perfume for fall and winter. It is a cocooning scent, very warm, more feminine. I wear it during the day but also to go bed. A little touch of "modeling clay". The brand is very interesting with perfumes not tested on animals and Aluminum-free, Formaldehyde-free, Gluten-free, Mineral oil-free, Paraben-free, SLS-free, Silicone-free, Soap-free and Sulphate-free. 8/10

I must be the only one, but I get more of a cocoa powder dusting than vanilla suede. The Ambrette, musk, vanilla create a gorgeous, cozy cocoon. This is more than a skin scent, but certainly not a projector. I can’t stop smelling my arms. I feel a little selfish wearing this. The joy is all mine. It lasts an eternity, but doesn’t seem to give much sillage.

My third SLM sample, so by now I'm expecting the feminine-leaning sweetness and powdery dry-down, but the herby kick in this one was a pleasant surprise. I don't think I would wear any of these fragrances outside of my sampling laboratory, but I do enjoy olfactory excursions into other worlds: this one sends me to the warm south in a open-top sports car with new leather upholstery. Not sure where we are heading, but I'm enjoying the ride!

Softly sweet, resinous, and a licorice note. It's like sweet herbal medicine. I get a touch of powder too. Sits very close to the skin. It reminds me of a Coty cologne or Irish spring. A little vintage barbershop.

Cuir d’Orient is an extremely pale shadow of Cuir Beluga. Sillage is nonexistent and longevity abysmal. I’ll stick to the original, thank you. *this is my opinion, on my skin and to my nose.

Well, I disagree with everyone who says this is the poor sister of Cuir Beluga. I have tried Cuir Beluga and it's sweet vanilla and mandarin on me. On a good day, I can kinda smell leather in it at the very end, but mostly it's vanilla and citrus. It's lovely, but it's not leather. Cuir d'Orient, now, this is lovely. I want to eat it. On my skin, I get smooth soft suedey leather with no bite or chemicals, and deep vanillic resinous undertones in the benzoin and vanilla and smoke. Dries down after 8 or 9 hours to opoponax. I friggin' adore this and bought more.

I bought the all discovery set of Sous Le Manteau Paris. Cuir d'Orient is one of my favorites. It has a warm tone to it, it's a perfume with character. The suede and bergamot are directly noticeable and the mix with amber, musk and vanilla gives it a unique undertone. What I love about it is that it is made of strong ingredients but its general scent remains sweet, it is the image of niche sophistication in perfume. I admire the research work of this brand and its inspiration for the aphrodisiac recipes of the 19th century.

SO much like Cuir Beluga in the beginning, but not for long. After that it merely resembles it. As "My Boudoir" said below-it's a pale shadow. Cuir Beluga is definitely the more beautiful, smooth and long lasting of the two. This Cuir d'Orient also has a note I just can't get on with. I suspect it's the musk or the ambrette.

No clue why but I am getting Dior Addict drydown vibes which I love. Cuir d’orient is like a very light and “younger” version of Addict. I would have already ordered it after my first sniff, if it had a better sillage. Nice scent overall.

I see the resemblance with Cuir Beluga as well. The concept is interesting but makes me also think of another brand which already exists: Initio Parfums.

This is Guerlain Cuir Beluga, plus musk. It starts where Cuir Beluga begins with the middle notes. A very good alternative.
