Fontaine Royale

Based on the original recipe of the love potion Royal Fountain from the 19th century in France, this perfume is a fantastic fragrance for orris and powdery lovers. The sillage and the longevity are moderate. I can smell Jasmine, Rose and Orris. More for woman to my opinion and for fall/spring and winter. I really like this French brand! My 2 favorites are Cuir d'Orient and Fontaine Royale. 9/10 more for fall and winter

Upon applying FR for the first time, these words immediately sprang to mind: Warm, round, rich and clean. The warm and powdery richness sparkles with a delicate zestiness while wrapped in subtle floral, ambery sweetness. The drydown brings clean, casual muskiness Projection is arm's length; and FR pleasantly wafted in and out of my consciousness for an entire day. Totally fbw in my book.

Delightful scent, although the entire house does not offer great performance. The blend is excellent, so smooth, almost creamy. This, Cuir d’orient and Poudre imperiale are very pretty, very baroque. I would not pay retail, because of the performance.

Fontaine Royale was a little bit of a let down for me. Well, ‘let down’ is a bit of a harsh description, mostly because when I try something unknown out, I, at the VERY least, want it to smell DIFFERENT and not like anything I’ve ever tried, and this unfortunately felt too familiar for mine. Soft, floral and pretty, it’s quite pleasant to smell, but being the absolute WEIRDO I am with these scents, they need to do MUCH more than that. Seriously. If you’re bowling second or third change, you better be taking 3 or 4 wickets per innings OR making a handy 50 or 60 with the bat, otherwise, well, yeah. This one bats and bowls with an ordinary average and doesn’t do anything to reinvent anything and/or redefine. The orris smoothness is there, no doubts, and pairs well with the sandalwood and musky elements, but, it adds nothing new to the game, and, to be BRUTALLY honest, orris and sandalwood smell amazing on their own. So, in this game, you really REALLY need to add something new to amazing ingredients, you can’t rely on them solely to push through a scent, and this scent, whilst smelling amazing, just doesn’t do enough for me. It’s a wonderful scent, and I hate sounding like such a pompous so-and-so, but I’m like 24 months into having tried two-to-three hundred orris/iris scents, and to make a mark you need to stand out, and this one, sadly, just doesn’t do that...

Great combo of spicy herbs, juicy fruits, sweet base and tender floral notes. It’s very complex, I can also detect some citrusy notes and a bit of fizzy (and slightly soapy) geranium. Vanilla kicks right in the opening, but after a while it settles down to a nice musky and buttery orris. Follow me on IG: scent.guide

Warm, powdery amber. Beautiful and comforting. Perhaps not groundbreaking but leaves a lovely sillage in the wearer's wake.

Essence of orris root, wrapped in vanilla : suffocatingly sweet and, for me, unwearable.
