Black Anubis

I love this scent it’s prob the best one released by sphinx. The best way to oddly describe this scent is it smells like how a guy that just smoked a cigarette and chilled outside for abit to let himself air out. But still he carries that burnt up cigarette smells but doused in sweet syrup. Although I prob described it bad I love this scent and I wish it lasted abit more on me.

Blind bought this fragrance recently, and I think it's safe to say it is a 10/10. Absolutely in love with the blend, sweet, fresh candy opening that made me want to drink the whole bottle, and then dries down to a much more woody and masculine profile. All notes blend perfectly without standing out from each other creating this fantastic scent that is definitely worth buying!

Favorite from this house. My wife says it smells like a man deodorant made sweet I just wish projection and longevity was better. If I hade to put this in a category it’ll be date night, it’s not so versatile to the point it would be a signature scent ... more special occasion

Oh this is goooood. Floral yet woody, and a dash of spice. The masculine scent of the oud is very well balanced by the sweetness of the saffron and grapefruit. It doesn't smell too dominant, but it smells like somebody who has their s*** together. Very classy and elegant. 9/10

Like sweet candy at first, few mins later it’s a nice aromatic rose like the red herbal essence shampoo, hard to explain you just keep smelling it. Ysl y edp deeper richer floral flanker. Like an elixir ysl y and MK 540 had a love child. It’s absolutely worth every penny.

To me it's as if BR 540 and Aventus hooked up while Ganymede sat in the corner. Pretty decent performance, more intimate in the sillage department than what I was expecting. 8.0/10

Ottersideoflife Nah, nothing like it. Black Anubis i sweeter and true to its ingredients. Way better blended. Anubis is a rose woody with tons of cedar like and 0 performance.

The best offering of the house imo. BR540 vibes, but with their own twist. My only gripe is i wish it lasted longer and projected a little more. 8.5/10

Today, I'm moving onto an indie house by the name of Sphinx Fragrances. This is one that I hadn't ever really heard of before, but I saw a few ads for it on social media. What drew me to trying them was A: they had a fairly priced discovery set, and B: the fragrance names and bottle designs were interesting. Will these positive aspects translate into a positive wearing experience? Let's get into it and find out. Scent: The opening is citrusy, aromatic, and warm. The primary notes I get are grapefruit, saffron, artemisia, and nutmeg. The strongest of the notes are the grapefruit and saffron. The grapefruit is what captured my attention off the first spray with a blast of fruity citrus accord. It's juicier and sweeter than the typical grapefruit note I'm used to, and doesn't really carry any of the bitter qualities of the note. Behind the grapefruit lies the saffron; warm, sensual, and earthy. It is similar in tone to the saffron used in Baccarat Rouge 540, but a bit quieter. Up next is the artemisia and nutmeg. The artemisia gives the opening a distinctly green and aromatic quality. There's enough of it there to stand out, but not so much that it overshadows the grapefruit and saffron. Lastly, a hint of the nutmeg is detectable in the background as a warm spiciness. The opening does remind me quite a bit of a mix between YSL Y EDP and BR 540, with the fruity and aromatic accords blended with the saffron. The dry down is aromatic, sweet, and woody. The primary notes I get are tonka bean, oud, amber, and artemisia. The strongest of the notes are the tonka bean and amber. Both notes manifest as sweet accords, but the tonka bean carries a warmth with it while the amber has a rich and balsamic tone to it. This is followed by the oud and artemisia. The oud is noticeable as a deep, woody supporting note. In the background but present. Lastly, the artemisia carries through with the same aromatic accord from the opening, but not as green as it was. I also get hints of the fruity grapefruit in the dry down as well, but it's an afterthought. Performance: Projection within the first hour is strong at around 6 feet. The sillage matches that with an easily noticeable scent trail. After a few hours the projection was a little lighter, around 4-6 feet. The sillage was also a bit lighter, but was still noticeable. At the 7-8 hour mark the projection had died down to about arms length, and the scent trail was still faintly noticeable. The fragrance became a skin scent shortly thereafter. When to wear: Black Anubis is one of those fragrances that can be worn any season, day or night, and for essentially any occasions. Thanks to it's similarities to BR 540 and YSL Y EDP, both of which are versatile fragrances, this fragrance has a similar level of versatility. You could even wear it to work, provided you don't get too cavalier with the atomizer. Blind buy: If you like BR540, or you like YSL Y EDP, or the idea of smelling like a combination of the two appeals to you, this is probably a safe blind buy for you. Final verdict: Black Anubis was my first step into the house of Sphinx Fragrances, and I'm pleased to announce that it was a positive experience. I feel like the fragrance was well blended, used quality ingredients, and while it had similarities to existing fragrances, it did its own thing without trying to be a clone of something else. Performance was respectable as well, with strong projection and scent trails for the first few hours, and lasting about 8 hours before becoming a skin scent. Versatility is a win as well, with it being a versatile fragrance that can be worn for pretty much any occasion, any time of the year. Mass appeal secures a spot in the win column as well. BR 540 and Y EDP are both known to be mass appealing fragrances, so Black Anubis is too by default. In conclusion, you can color me impressed with the house of Sphinx Fragrances. They may be an indie house, but I have a feeling they know what they're doing with fragrances over there. Now I already own BR 540 and YSL Y EDP, so I don't necessarily need to add this to my collection. However, if you don't, I would definitely recommend giving Black Anubis a try. Scent: 8/10 Longevity: 7/10 Sillage: 7/10

Very smooth. So well blended that no one note dominates. Although it’s not dark like the bottle and name suggest. The rose is jammy (like rose hip jam) paired with a very dry oud backbone that makes a very wearable unisex. I assume the nutmeg and cedar also add to the dry wood accord. I don’t get much saffron on my skin, which is good as other saffron fragrances smell like latex to me. I could see this being used at office or on a date. I’ll update after more wearings. Edit: This does last more than 12hrs on my skin. Later (6+hrs) the rose fades to leave spicy oud. So much smoother than way more expensive oud fragrances. Response: It's not ghosting out people. That's just you going nose blind. Same issue is common with BR540 and their ilk. I get that negatively impacting wearing experience but it's not per se an issue with power. More than a few sprays of this will suffocate those around you.

Definitely watch for this house and their releases. High quality and very affordable. Lasts all day on me. Weirdly enough, the bottle does not have a batch code or any product information on it. I have smelled this fragrance and Sphinx Elixir. They both remind me of Baccarat Rouge.

Me personally whenever I spray it I mainly get rose. Not saying that’s bad. The rose is sweet but not too sweet and leans a bit masculine. Pretty good scent. I blind bought it and it was a great purchase, but definitely sample because it’s 120$

This is a very well blended fragrance. No one note is dominating the other and none of them are screaming at me to the point of annoyance. Saffron was just the right amount. The musk gives a nice balance. 9/10

I’m getting Torino 22 with that baccarat rouge dna and Ganymede. Very good but I choose Torino 22 over this anyday. Very good alternative due to the great pricing tho.

Very heavy baccarat inspiration starts off with a very similar sickly sweet but is met with an intensely jammy rose on top of a tonka overdose. Gets better over time and becomes more subtle and maybe woody, objectively not a bad fragrance at all but is just not it for me. Performance isn’t really beastly, feels strong for an hour and remains soft on skin for maybe a few more give it a try if you want a BR540/Cloud alternative

I wanna like it but I cant smell it lol and the scent i do smell isnt as strong as what people say. If you have a hard time smelling BR540 then I imagine this gives the same issue.

This acted and smelled like MKF BCR540 to my body chemistry. Can’t smell much as it ghosted out on me just like BCR540.

Opened up kinda candy like, but not really too sweet. As it dried down, got a distinct tropical fruity type of scent. Concentrating on it while taking a sniff, I kinda got rose but it still came across more like a tropical fruit smoothy scent. Maybe that's what's called jammy rose, but it didn't smell like rose hip jam to me. I'd rate this as leaning feminine or at best unisex. Performance was good. Got a good 9 hours and it still was a pretty strong skin scent. Sillage and projection were moderate however. Overall, didn't care for the fruity scent. I'll pass on this one.

I can see the Sauvage elixir comparisons but this has a creamy saffron that gives me baccarat vibes. I need to test this more, but so far, the scent is fantastic Update: Now it's veering toward oud for greatness lol. Hey, can't complain Not totally a clone of baccarat, but similar facets. After further testing, this lasts over 8 hours easy with it dying down nearing the 10th hour. You're definately getting your money's worth with this!
