First Date

This one is incredible. The lemon, musk, caramel with coconut shines with the sandalwood and saffron. Very well blended. A must have for any occasion. Good for any climate.

Not exactly a date night sort of scent to me at least but nevertheless, this is actually a pretty good tropical sweet summer vibe. Reminds me of Vanille Banane, like there’s a suntan lotion smell to it and a lotion like sweetness. Despite the way this sounds it’s actually not as cheap smelling and think it’s pretty good overall with strong performance but I couldn’t really imagine wearing this for a first date unless you’re on the beach.

To cut a long story short. This fragrance is very good, smells exactly like Victoria secret vanilla lotion but therapeutic in a way. Maybe it’s the tonka in there that really gets me 🙂. 8.5/10 7h longevity with 2 feet projection. It’s very feminine btw

Tonight I'm closing out the chapter on Sphinx Fragrances with the last sample I have: First Date. Based on the name, I'm expecting something sensual, alluring, and inviting. Something that will draw people in for a closer sniff. Something that you'd wear on a first date to make sure you get a second date. Have I saved the best for last? Let's get into it and find out. Scent: The opening is sweet, fruity, and aromatic. The primary notes I get are orange, lime, bay leaf, and saffron. The strongest of the notes are the orange and lime. The orange opens up the fragrance with a fresh blast of juicy and sweet orange accord. It's sweeter than I'm used to with orange notes, and comes across more fruity than citrusy. The lime note follows, adding its characteristic citric tartness. Both notes blend to create a very juicy and fruity accord that reminds me somewhat of the pineapple note from Ralph Lauren's Polo 67, strangely. Up next is the bay leaf and saffron. The bay leaf comes across very noticeably as an aromatic and green accord with just a bit of fresh spiciness to counterbalance the sweetness of the fruit notes. Lastly, the saffron provides a sturdy foundation of warm and earthy spiciness, similar to the saffron note present in MFK's Baccarat Rouge 540. Along with the saffron, there is also a noticeable skin-like warmth from the ambergris, making the similarity to BR540 even stronger. However, the fruity and aromatic opening of this fragrance instantly made me think of YSL's Y EDP. The dry down is sweet, fruity, and warm. The primary notes I get are coconut, vanilla, ambergris, and saffron. The strongest of the notes are the ambergris and saffron. As in the opening, both of these notes put together are very reminiscent of the warm, sensual nature of BR540; however, the similarity is more stark in the dry down. This is followed by the coconut and vanilla. The coconut has emerged in the dry down to provide a sweet and fruity accord with a tropical undertone. It's not a strong coconut like JPG's Le Beau Le Parfum, but it's noticeable. Lastly, the vanilla adds a bit more creamy sweetness in the background. I also get just a touch of amber for a sweet, balsamic accord, as well as some of the musk for a hint of "clean laundry" freshness. Performance: Initial projection is very strong and can fill a room. Scent trail is strong as well with an easily noticeable scent trail. After four hours, the performance was largely the same. The performance fell off pretty heavily after that, and by the 7 hour mark, the projection was under arm's length and the scent trail was only faintly noticeable. The fragrance became a skin scent around the 8-hour mark. When to wear: First Date is a versatile fragrance that can be worn all year round, day time or evening. This fragrance can be worn casually, but it can also be dressed up and worn formally. Date nights, formal occasions, even office wear; this fragrance will fit any occasion. Blind buy: If the idea of a fruitier BR540 appeals to you, this is probably a safe blind buy for you. Final verdict: Of all the Sphinx fragrances I've tried on this journey, this is the one that I'm most "meh" about. Don't get me wrong, it smells great and my wife enjoyed it (she's a BR540 lover), but it wasn't as exciting or complex as the other Sphinx fragrances I tried. Performance was a little on the weaker side compared to the others, as well. It projected heavily and left a nice scent trail for the first few hours, but fell off quickly afterwards and became a skin scent around the 8-hour mark. However, when it comes to versatility, this is the most versatile of the Sphinx fragrances I tried. This is one of those fragrances that you can grab and spray anytime, and it'll work well. Likewise, with mass appeal, this is one of those DNAs that doesn't have anything offensive and focuses on notes everyone will enjoy. While that is technically a good thing, that's also probably why I find it a little boring. In conclusion, if you want to grab a fragrance from the house that can play a jack-of-all-trades role, First Date is a good pick, but if you're like me and prefer something more interesting, there are better picks from Sphinx. While I won't be getting a full bottle of First Date, my experience with the house as a whole has left me wanting more. In fact, I've already ordered another discovery set, and I can't wait to continue my journey with Sphinx Fragrances. Scent: 7/10 Longevity: 7/10 Sillage: 7/10

This is an interesting scent. First and foremost, this is not nearly as sweet as other "tropical" fragrances (Miami, Le Beau Le Parfum). The sweetness, while apparent, is much more subdued. This fragrance has more of a powdery, suntan lotion sort of character likely due to the herbaceous notes. The texture of the fragrance is dense, and in my experience, it doesn't wear particularly well in the high heat, despite what the notes might imply. I find that it is aptly named. I can see this being a summer date night fragrance. First Date sort of reminds me of a summer flavor of Le Male Le Parfum or Noir Extreme. Nice scent with moderate projection and decent staying power.

Sphinx is such a solid fragrance house with really decent prices for niche. I loved this fragrance when I first smelled it and then I thought it was mediocre the second time. I already had a decant so I decided to put it to use... This fragrance gets better every single time pretty good performance. Sweet creamy deep a little dark. Very sweet but also very unisex .

This is definitely a soft, sexy, mature unisex fragrance. The vanilla, coconut, amber, almond..there's more going on with this one which is probably why its unisex. When I first smelled it, I was sure it was for women. But, I put it on the shelf, a year later I smelled it and I can definitely see my son or husband wearing this one too. I really like this one.

I have full bottles of cairo nights, vanilla azzure, strawberry kiss and sunkissed sands.. They sent me samples of this one. I might need to get this one too.. really good🦋
