Horchata de Vanille

I'm not sure how so many people are not getting the rice and milk notes or say it doesn't smell like horchata. I know everyone is different but I wonder if it has to do with temperature/ season when they are trying it. I just got this and am wearing it now (December) and it smells exactly like horchata or a sweet rice pudding. I love making horchata and this smells spot on to me. Its creamy, I definitely get the sugary rice milk smell, and a hint of cinnamon in the background. It's definitely not a cinnamon bomb to me, the cinnamon is very subtle. To me, this really does smell exactly like a freshy made creamy rice pudding or sweet creamy horchata. This is one of the few perfumes that actually smelled exactly like what I was expecting from the notes, and I was impressed. I had purchased a travel size and ended up buying a full bottle within hours of trying it. I haven't worn this in warmer weather, so maybe that is when it gets more cinnamon heavy? I'll have to wait and see.

I won a contest in a Facebook fragrance group where the members came up with names for this fragrance. And the owner ended up picking one of the names I suggested: "Horchata de Vanille". And my prize for winning was a full bottle. I recently received it and it is beautiful! Perfectly spicy, creamy, lactonic, vanillary and sweet. It smells like Horchata! I'll be wearing this so much during the fall and winter. I have worn it as a bedtime scent and loved the cozy feeling it gave me. Performance and longevity is great too. If you're looking for a Horchata fragrance, get your nose on this one! And the price is unbeatable for a 100ml.

Coming from a gourmand lover, this is lovely! Cinnamon is a divisive note, and most people who don’t like this scent- according to their profiles aren’t gourmand appreciators. Why sniff a scent profile you know you don’t enjoy and then proceed to write that you don’t like it? Despite that delicious sweet creamy cinnamon, it’s an uplifting and brighter gourmand rather than thick and dense. There is a cherry/almondy presence that reminds me of sweet Swedish fish candy and some milky horchata!

I've been wanting to try this since I've heard Daniel Rene talk about it and LET ME TELL YOU OH MY GOD. It is such a beautiful soft, slightly cinnamony, milky, creamy vanilla scent It might just become my signature!!! I ordered from their website, delivery didn't take longer than about a two weeks max. I can not recommend this perfume enough, it's absolutely beautiful. I will continue buying from Sphinx fragrances. Seems like they never miss!

This fragrance opens very spicy. Not going to lie it reminded me of a glade holiday room air freshener heavy on cinnamon. But I'm happy to say that the opening doesn't last very long and it's not what others pick up either. It turns into a creamy rich vanilla with a a hint of spice. My husband described it as yummy abd cozy. Def won't be wearing this on hot summer days but I can see myself reaching for this for fall and winter.

I have this bottle and the first date bottle. My grandma would make that Spanish Mexican rice dessert when I was a child. Takes me back to smelling the cinnamon sticks boiling with the evaporated milk and rice in the air. This is a beauty. Yes I am a man and I have a major collection from Niche to designer and middle eastern fragrances so take it for what it's worth. Ps I don't like the Horcha drink but I love the scent ❤️😎❤️

The horchata of my dreams. So gorgeous and can smell it without trying for hours. It's VERY cinnamon forward on me especially the first few hours. I love that, but be careful if you're not super into cinnamon. The later hours it settles to more creamy vanilla with hint of spice. Honestly gorgeous from start to finish and not too sweet.

I received this about five months ago. At first, it was just harsh chemical cinnamon blast almost like a christmas candle. BUT when it gets macerated, the magic starts. YOU NEED TO WAIT FOR THIS PERFUME TO SIT. That way, you can get beautiful rice pudding scents. MACERATION is the key for this one.

I can’t not understand why this fragrance isn’t more talked about! The initial spray can be a harsh cinnamon but it mellows fairly quickly into the comforting, warm milky, spicy vanilla. This is so photorealistic it makes me crave a fresh horchata! Can’t wait to try more from this brand.

Absolutely love this ! Beast mode for me leaves an incredible scent trail for the first 2/3 hours ! Lasts upto 8 hours for full wear time and longer on clothes ! Beautiful creamy milky cinnamon gourmand ! I have no idea why the reviews are so low this is a great winter fragrance !

Today I'm reviewing Horchat De Vanille from the house of Sphinx Fragrances. Yesterday's wearing of Black Anubis from the same house was an overall positive experience, and left me excited to see what else the house has to offer. I'm assuming, based on the name, that today's fragrance is going to be a very gourmand experience. I can enjoy a good gourmand as much as the next person, so let's get into it and see what we're working with. Scent: The opening is sweet, milky, and spicy. The primary notes I get are milk, vanilla, cinnamon, and rice. The strongest of the notes are the milk and cinnamon. From the first spray, the milk is obviously the star of the show here. It's hyper-realistic, creamy, and, well, milky. Think of a freshly poured glass of milk, that's what this note smells like. Behind the milk is the cinnamon for sizable blast of warm spiciness. It's powdery and spicy, like real cinnamon should smell like. Again, a very photo-realistic portrayal of cinnamon here. Up next is the rice and vanilla. The rice, strangely enough, is very noticeable behind the milk and cinnamon. I've only experienced this note in fragrance a handful of times, but this is by far the most realistic version of smelled; reminiscent of a bowl of rice pudding. Lastly, the vanilla offers a subtle but persistent sweet creaminess in the background. All these notes put together are very true to the fragrance's name of Horchata De Vanille, but to me, it comes across smelling more like the Mexican dessert Arroz Con Leche. The dry down is still sweet, milky, and spicy. The primary notes I get are still milk, vanilla, cinnamon, and rice. The strongest of the notes are the milk and vanilla. The milk is still the focus in the dry down with the same creamy and lactonic accord, not much has changed with it. The vanilla, however, has risen to the top to give a boosted version of the sweet creaminess from the opening. This is followed by the cinnamon and rice. The cinnamon still has the same warm and spicy accord from the opening, and the rice still has the same edible "rice pudding" accord, but they are both softer and more subtle than what they were in the opening. Interestingly enough, there is a "horchata" note listed in the base for this fragrance, but milk, cinnamon, rice, and vanilla are indeed the ingredients for horchata, so that seems a bit redundant. Overall, the fragrance is a super-gourmand experience and does very much give the impression of a glass of horchata or arroz con leche, like I described previously. Performance: The initial projection is very strong and can fill a room. Sillage matches that intensity with a heavy scent trail. After a few hours, the projection was still about 6 feet, and the scent trail was still easily noticeable. At the 7-8 hour mark, the projection was about 4-6 feet, and the scent trail, while lighter, was still noticeable. The fragrance lasted somewhere in the 10-12 hour range before becoming a skin scent. When to wear: Horchata De Vanille is a fall/winter fragrance that is best reserved for evening wear. This is not a casual wearing fragrance, but it's too gourmand to be a formal fragrance as well. This falls neatly into the "special occasion" slot; date nights, anniversaries, or anything of a sensual nature is where this fragrance shines. For the same reasons, I would not wear this to the office. Blind buy: If you like sweet, super-gourmand fragrances, or if the idea of smelling like a Mexican dessert sounds appealing to you, this is a safe blind buy. Final verdict: I will say this about Horchata De Vanille; it is one of the most true-to-name fragrances I have ever experienced. The entire wear was a hyper-gourmand and super sweet olfactory experience. If you want to smell like a delicious Mexican dessert, this is where you wanna be. In terms of performance, Horchata De Vanille was pretty powerful. Strong projection and scent trails for at least the first few hours, and lasting around 10-12 before becoming a skin scent. When it comes to versatility, Horchata De Vanille isn't winning any awards. This is solely a special occasion fragrance for cooler weather; outside of that, it would be too sweet and gourmand. Mass appeal, however, I would imagine is very high. Smelling a scent trail of sweet, vanilla-laden dessert? Who wouldn't want that? In conclusion, I think this fragrance is a great fit for any gourmand connoisseurs out there, but it doesn't quite resonate with me. I can enjoy a sweet vanilla fragrance, but this is just too sweet even for me. Plus, it does lean a bit feminine for my taste. Overall, it was a very interesting and pleasant experience, but it's not something I'm going to add to my collection. Scent: 7/10 Longevity: 8/10 Sillage: 8/10

It's nice, but not quite what I expected. When I think of horchata I think mostly of the beautiful subtlety and comfort of rice rather than heavy cinnamon. This fragrance smells just like a Glade holiday candle, cinnamon centric with a very sweet vanilla. On first smell it reminded me of a car air freshener that my dad had in the 90s. A heavy combination of scents that I have never smelled in perfume. I like spraying it on my clothes at night in cold weather because it is nice and soothing, but can easily become cloying in excess or warm weather. One note about the formulation - I had a severe reaction to it when I sprayed it directly on my skin - skin super red and burning - and I have never had any type of reaction to a fragrance before in my life. I have no idea what accounted for that, but I only spray it on my clothes and hair now.

I was surprised to find that this fragrance smells exactly like horchata. The initial spray is a bit strong, but after a few minutes, the milky notes become more prominent. I really like this fragrance, but I think it leans more feminine. I can't imagine many men wearing it. It is also very strong, and I could still smell it on my girlfriend after 5 hours from a foot or so away. I also received a free sample of Oceanic Symphony, which I am not a fan of. It smells painfully generic. However, I think $70 USD for a 100ml bottle of Horchata de Vanille is a great deal, and I would definitely recommend it to someone looking for a unique fragrance. I know that Sphinx also has a pistachio ice cream fragrance, so I will definitely be checking that one out next.

LAYER WITH SOMETHING TROPICAL I’ll be honest. I bought this to impress a boy. He told me horchata is his favorite smell. I was expecting cinnamon and vanilla and that’s it. Actually, I’m pretty impressed by how milky this smells. And somehow, it does smell like rice milk, specifically. Pretty cool. YES the initial punch is just pure cinnamon. Be patient. I layered this with my favorite tropical perfume, which is fruity and salty and time just stopped. I was only trying to make it more appropriate for summer, I wasn’t trying to discover something profound. But I think I did anyway. So unique and delicious. This perfume really blew my expectations out of the water!

Quite similar to other cinnamon scents, like Angel's Share by Killian, but at the same is unique. Of course the cinnamon and vanilla are here, but also it is sweet and creamy and laconic. Love that aspect to it. At the same time I feel some chemical quality to it and although it is not terrible, I preferred if it wasn't there - reminds me of Italica by Xerjoff in that aspect, but if I had to chose, I'd pick Horchata de Vanille over Italica. Also I feel like I am also getting some fruit from it, like some plum - in a interesting /nice way.

This is way more like arroz con leche than it is horchata. It’s also extremely heavy on the cinnamon, which does die down in the full drydown but just feels a bit potpourri adjacent in the opening. Opening is a heavy hand of cinnamon paired with a warm milkiness and creamy rice notes. The vanilla comes out as it develops which I feel is what tones down the cinnamon. It becomes a rice pudding scent with cinnamon and creamy vanilla. Like this but don’t love it

Woooooow. This. Smells. Fantastic. Photorealistic horchata drink. You have to love cinnamon to like this one. Actually, I don’t even like cinnamon, but I think this perfume smells nice. I’m not sure I want to smell like a horchata though. Strong, spicy cinnamon on first spray, and the dry down brings out the rice notes. It’s definitely giving some kind of Yankee Candle or even a 90s potpourri vibe.

This is very much a 'foody' gourmand. I definitely get the sweet milk and rice note. The cinnamon is very much in the background to me, it's not giving that dry spice quality that I sometimes find with cinnamon in fragrances. This is very sweet, and the sillage and projection are both moderate to strong. This is definitely worth sampling if you're a gourmand lover.

This is absolutely gorgeous. I’m guessing the low reviews are due to the performance. It is weak/more of a skin scent, but it lasts on clothes and also creates a nice scent bubble. This will be a full bottle purchase for me as soon as my Casaniche bottle runs, out because these are identical and it’s impossible to get Casaniche in the UK. Love this!

Very similar to Cinnamon Rolls by Theodoros Kalotinis. The longevity and sillage is much better. I get more lactonic and less synthetic notes. Opening smells like the burnt sugar on cinnamon roll right after you bake it. Then it leans more lactonic. Cinnamon isn't as strong as I expected although it spices up the whole mixture.

Soooo good! Smells like wearable sweet cinnamon toast crunch milk! :) It reminds me of a less dense Bianco Latte with cinnamon. I'm ok wearing this on cool summer nights or even as a bedtime scent as it's not a heavy gourmand but I'd love to see how it wears in the cooler weather. Nothing else to say but... Get it!

Love this! It is very cinnamon heavy. However it soon quickly settles into a creamy milk/vanilla/rice scent. Very very yummy. The rice is the standout star here. It’s very pravalent on the dry down and it’s absolutely delectable. The milk rice base is also present in their Creme de pistachio. I think it’s unique.

Nice cozy lactonic scent, drydown is STRAIGHT cinnamon. Not a bad thing- just very heavy handed with that note in my experience so far. Overall I really enjoy it and want to try it out in cooler weather! Longevity is awesome.

Cozy Shack vanilla rice pudding with tons of cinnamon and extra sugar. This is great, and I don't even like cinnamon.

everyone saying this is bad is wrong btw, that’s my two cents.

All I get on first spray are alcohol, pink bubblegum, and cinnamon. On the next deep sniff, I get wax. It's a very juvenile, chemical smell. After about 10 minutes it calms down to something sweet and creamy, but it's still really synthetic. I'm not warming up to the cinnamon compound they used. It's not a photorealistic cinnamon, more like super sharp candle cinnamon. That's too bad, because the lactonic note underneath is actually really nice. I bought this as a decanted sample, so I don't think that maceration is going to help. I've tested this scent in both warm and cool weather and it's the same both ways. Milky pink bubblegum with sharp cinnamon. Not horchata-like at all, just something I'd expect to smell from a candle, but not a perfume.

I thought this would be perfect for me. When I first sprayed it, it smelled like a cinnamon stick after you snap it in half. Now, after an hour, it smells like a snuffed out candle. Not bad, and it might just be my skin chemistry causing problems, but I’m still disappointed.

whoever said cherry was so right lol. it definitely gives cherry syrup at first but is truly just a warm, spicy milk. it’s nice and decent. no depth or delicious whatsoever though

Only about 5 hour longevity. This smells like oatmeal porridge the name with a lot of added sugar. Don’t really like this scent but it’s GREAT nevertheless 5/10

First Impressions (sprayer sample): I’ll admit the first spray was harsh aggressive cinnamon. It’s almost like it’s giving bubble gummy, or Christmasy vibe to it. Maybe the Tom ford’s tobacco vanille? But then it calms down to a creamy cinnamony smell. To me, this doesn’t not smell exactly like horchata at all. Horchata is suppose to smell more milky, and I wish maybe they put more of a rice or almond note to calm down the aggressive cinnamon in this fragrance. Edit 1: I need to rebuy horchata, then sniff & compare. Edit 2: Alright my peeps I bought horchata and put this on got it to dry down. I got my horchata & put extra cinnamon and sniffed. This is similar, but not accurate. Altho that would make sense since in reality horchata, is a faint smell to me. Edit 3: The cinnamon here becomes stale On my skin. Summary: Smells like: cinnamon oil (misleading title), creamy cinnamon, Christmas candle. Family of: N/A Silage: Moderate to strong Verdict: Pass-I live in a hot climate. Doesn’t smell exactly like horchata unfortunately for me, and my other opinion voted this no 4 out of the other fragrances, not to mention they said “it kinda of smells like a candle”, and I agree.

I’m a little disappointed. I watched all the reviews before I purchased and had an idea of what it might smell like before I got it. I’ve tried (and enjoyed) horchata and I love cinnamon, lactonic, and powdery rice accords too so I assumed it would be relatively safe. What I didn’t expect though was how unrefined it smelled to me. There’s something very chemical in a weird berry kind of way when I first sprayed it, and it smells a lot of a candle fragrance not an actual perfume. In the deep dry down there is something vaguely vanillic and lactonic that I could like but its drowned out by the loud chemical overtones that eclipse the rest of the perfume. I will add a disclaimer that my perfume arrived damaged (it leaked all over the box and the cap was leaking) so maybe this affected the perfume while in transit since it didn’t seem properly sealed. I’m letting it sit in case I change my mind (I’ve changed my mind on perfumes before) but that doesn’t seem likely in this case.

I’m a true gourmand lover, but this one just isn’t it for me. On my skin, this smells like a straight-up horchata-scented candle—sweet, creamy, and undeniably edible at first, but overwhelmingly waxy. Think more Yankee Candle than fine fragrance. There’s a richness there that should work, but something—whether it’s the synthetics or a particular note—turns sharply artificial on me. I gave it every chance. I let it sit for about six months in a cool, dark place hoping it would round out or deepen, but it never changed. The waxy, almost plastic-like quality stayed front and center the entire time. In the end, I sold my full bottle. If you enjoy very literal, dessert-like scents and don’t mind a candle-adjacent vibe, you might appreciate this more than I did. Personally, I think this house would absolutely shine if they leaned into actual candle-making.

First, this sounds like a perfume that I would enjoy (in the gourmand category). Horchata? Can't drink it cuz I'm a diabetic, but I'll wear it! At first sniff I smell cinnamon, which evaporates rather quickly (maybe less than a minute). Then I'm left with a synthetic horchata/milk disappointment. I don't know what it's lacking. This je ne sais quoi is actually captured beautifully by an Italian perfumer in the fragrance Lattedoro (but only if you're ok with a powerful kick of cinnamon in the front, which is very light in the Horchata fragrance). The dry down felt powdery more than milky in the Horchata. I'm glad I got the small travel size from the Sphinx store because I would have been stuck with a giant bottle of this. But now I don't know what to do with the small size because Lattedoro wins in this perfume comparison.

Hoo boy howdy, I took a risk with this one as I’m not usually big on gourmands. And it is NOT for me. Literally had it less than 24 hours before sending it to its new home. VERY cinnamon-y on the open, but a headache inducing fall scented candle variety of cinnamon. If you can get through that, there’s a pretty realistic milky rice in the dry down that was nice. I probably didn’t do this one any favors testing it in 90 odd degree weather, but here we are.

I'm soo disappointed :( I wanted to love this because I love sweet, lactonic, spiced gourmands but it smells exactly like a craft store cinnamon candle with an undertone of almost-sour milk on my skin. It smells a little bit better on my partner, but I wanted it for myself. I really wish I loved it!! I hope someone with more cooperative skin chemistry can fall in love with it :(

Unfortunately (at least on me) it smells like cherry strawberry cough syrup at first lol, then it very quickly became more and more creamy vanilla. It dries down smelling like a milk flavored hard candy. I was reallllyyy praying for it to be heavy on the cinnamon, like a cinnamon broom, but on me the "cinnamon" smells oddly fruity..

DO NOT BLIND BUY. opening smells like a synthetic cherry candle and dry down smells like a playdough mixed with rice pudding. Longevity is around 4-6 hours. Also this perfume is very feminine.

smells like a craft store or a cinnamon candle. the lactonic notes are not very strong. prefer angel's share for perfume with a cinnamon note.

i love laconic scents and horchata is one of my favorite drinks so i was so excited for this, but it sadly completely missed the mark. this genuinely smelled like salty spoiled milk to me, so i made my friends try it too and all of them agreed. i wish i could smell what other people are smelling but dang this was honestly the worst fragrance i have ever tried :(

I wouldn't call this horchata. I was looking for the milk and rice come in, but it never did. Very heavy synthetic cinnamon, no milk or rice in the dry down either.

Cinnamon in the worst way. Like walking into a Hobby lobby or Michaels and getting hit with the potpourri. I KNOW Horchata has cinnamon ok? It's delicious. 😽

This smells like when you let a vanilla wax melt sit in the warmer for too long and you get that weird waxy chemical smell. Not a fan of this at all. 🤢

If you are looking for a pure creamy rice lactonic I would say this is not for you. The top note is a very strong cinnamon with vanilla interlaced into it but as if you were inhaling the cinnamon powder on the top of the horchata before you have your first real drink. Luckily for me I really enjoy a strong cinnamon but to my syrupy sweet gourmand lovers THIS IS NOT FOR YOU. After a couple hours there is a pleasant rice/milk dry down and the cinnamon has cooled down a bit but it still has a strong presence. After 3 or so days it becomes nauseating. You can't overspray with this which is why I found myself becoming dismayed at my purchase and avoiding the smell altogether. It was terrible. Until I touched it two weeks later. It becomes less of a dry cinnamon and more of a warm scent. It's still a strong cinnamon and I found myself pondering what to do with it - until I layered it with a sweeter scent. I used my dupe Lovely Cherie by Maison Alamhambra but I've found this is a very good base to take the edge off something with too much of a sugar scent. Will be using again. Edit: Never mind. I just don't find myself reaching for this and I think the cinnamon personally is too overpowering. It has macerated into a softer, livlier cinnamon that smells a bit like licorice in the initial spritz but it's just not for me. I will be selling this if anyone is interested.

I love horchata. To me this isn’t an accurate depiction of it at all. This is a blast of extreme concentrated cinnamon oil that could be used to scent candles. If you are a lover of intense cinnamon this may be for you. I don’t find it natural it has an industrial cinnamon quality. Please don’t blind buy this. Also no names are printed on the fragrance bottles. However I will say this co has great customer service.

Oh, my gosh, I don't know how people can't smell the milk or rice in this.. This is delicious to me. It opens with a little bit of a fruity Note but within seconds the cinnamon comes in strong along with milk and as it starts to dry down the rice gets stronger and it smells like rice pudding that my mom used to make with nutmeg. This is very strong and has great sillage and lasts all day

This was a blind buy for me. It starts out intensely cinnamon with some sweetness, a little potpourri-leaning. I get some woody notes. Maybe cinnamon stick? After drying down, the cinnamon dissipates some (preferred), and the sweetness is nearly gone. It still reads wood chippy, cinnamon-y potpourri to me. I love the smell of real horchata but not this.

This is my comfort scent!! It has all the things I crave in a comforting fragrance; it is sweet, milky, creamy, ricey, nutty, almondy, and has the perfect amount of warm spices. It smells like you are drinking horchata while wrapped in a big furry blanket watching the leaves fall. I can't get enough of this one!!

I am really enjoying this scent. I can pick up the rice note on dry down after 10mins. This is my first time smelling rice in a fragrance. The cinnamon is Present throughout . This is such a unique fragrance. I don’t have anything scent profile like this in my collection. I am enjoying it.

If you live in Europe, and take holidays in Spain you will not recognize this as Horchata, as this accord here if featuring the Mexican Horchata, that is a liquid Rice pudding with a lot of cinnamon, Nothing to do with the Spanish one, that is only made with Tiger nuts water and sugar.
