The Tycoon

Gorgeous, modern green take on an old school refreshing scent. Slightly dusty talc like thanks to the nutmeg contribution is layered over the top by smoothly blended galbanum bitterness and citrus - most notably pomelo. A dark green base achieved by a not over bearing patchouli broadened with quite sharp and piquant pepper that is broadened by a slight tea leave note. A literal breath of fresh air, a pleasant blind purchase with decent sillage. Great for professional and business suit use - the marketing being very appropriate, I can imagine a clean cut, well groomed, pin stripe suited affluent business owner walking into his foyer, his employees looking up to him yet scurrying out of the way, already aware he is enroute as his signature scent bubble announces him in advance early in a morning that most people would struggle to be as sharp as him very day. Immaculate! Thinking Pierce Brosnan in The Crown Affair. Welcome relief and sadly underrated. A nice alternative to Charenton Macerations Christopher Street, Bruno Fazzolari Five Eau, Histoire De Parfums 1828 Jules Vernes and Miller Harris Fueilles de Tabac which are my faves, though this is sweeter.

This is a very nice non-floral chypre. The ginger is a great addition to an otherwise standard citrusy opening rendered bitter by galbanum. (Relating to earlier review, altho this is citrus, I'm not getting similarity to Fazzolari Five, which is citrus but extremely sweet juicy, not bitter dry like this.) Progression from top to spicy/woody/camphory middle is pretty quick, and I like the cypriol at core. And I agree the patchouli is appropriately subdued & secondary in the resiny/mossy/animalic base. This is not super challenging or surprising a chypre, but is very enjoyable & at a very reasonable price.

The Tycoon starts off with a brilliant green spicy fizz to it which is uplifting to the senses coming from the lemon and ginger. As it dries the nutmeg and proper take affect to make this a warming mature scent green throughout. I would highly recommend this fragrance!

Got this for my boyfriend the price is really low considering the quality of the fragrance. Very impressed. Arrived fast and in perfect condition. The boyfriend loves it & so do I !! Simply amazed by the long lasting scent.

Fresh and zingy in the opening with pomelo accord. This fragrances performance is excellent, extremely likeable There's a fresh and fruity vibe with a woody dry down. Its a well rounded scent and excellent value for money!

Starts off gingery sweet, citrusy. Then it transitions to a magnolia, with a hint of castoreum and supporting faint patchouli. You can still make out its faint sweet bias, probably due to the nutmeg and tea. This is an interesting take of a typical clean frag, I actually can appreciate the vision of an executive wearing this, since it actually smells unique. Despite this, not FBW for me personally.

A tart and dry citrus opening followed by nose tingling bitter, peppery herbs which linger until the very end. I could not pick up any florals at all - it is fresh, spicy and devoid of any sweetness. A mature, assertive scent, modern in its minimalism but with a vintage feel. It is rather potent stuff and benefits from under-spraying, in my experience. Linear and long lasting.

I purchased the discovery sample set of all 5 St. Giles fragrances - given these are small vials with not the greatest atomizers, no comment will be made on performance, sillage, projection or longetivity. The Tycoon My least favourite of the line. Grapefruit-like citrus opening but within minutes a persistent accord of musk, castoreum and pepper takeover. In totality, this accord has a floral aspect to it that may present as iris. I can see this being perfect for a businessman as it has a quality to it like Dior Sauvage does: it beats your nose into submission whether you like the smell or not. Very fitting for a tycoon. This reminds me of two scents specifically: Banana Republic Black Platinum and Fragonard L'Homme Elegant. Also shows the range of Duchaufour as this is not something I would peg as ordinarily his style. If you're in the UK, the price over there is more reasonable but here in Canada, it's quite expensive to get a bottle here after currency conversion. I think these St. Giles scents offer niche smells done in a way that's still wearable so they're not too challenging but definitely not mainstream designer either. Main highlight for me = it's persistent quality which is a plus if you like the smell; I'm not a fan of the smell itself (but I appreciate the construction or execution of it) I rank this #4 out of 4 ("The Actress" is excluded since it's the only one explicitly geared to women) YT channel - The Scentrovert

Top: grapefruit, lemon, ginger. Heart: cypriol, nutmeg, black pepper. Base: castoreum, musk, lovage oil. This is a modern twist on a classic chypre. Green, woody, herbal. Masculine. It reminds me of a modern version of Davidoff's eponymous 1984 classic. The citrus notes add a slight creamy texture which really add a sort of extra layer to the scent. It's easy to wear. The patchouli base is pleasant and not overpowering. It's not an animalic scent by any means so it's perfect for daily wear as well. Overall it's a well constructed green spicy scent, of which fans of classic masculine chypres or old school herbal/green powerhouses should check out. Performance is good and lasts some hours. Not bad at all. 7/10

The Tycoon has a very classic masculine feel to it, it has a very bright citrusy opening that has a lovely soft ginger note that accompanies the grapefruit and lemon. It starts a little strong and smooths out as it progresses. Toward the dry down it seems to have a woody tone to it, despite not having woods listed, I this could perhaps be the Cypriol giving off this impression. This was a power house for me. I could smell this for the majority of the day, projection for a good 5 hours, sitting close to the skin for pretty much the whole day. I don’t work in a office, but I could imagine this being a very good office fragrance for someone. I would highly recommend checking this one out.

I was startled when first smelling this perfume in Selfridges. Soooooo unique with such a great drydown. If you're looking for a unisex perfume that would not be duplicated, It's a good going!
