St. John by Marie Gray

I'm glad this was added to Fragrantica! Close to 10 years ago I wrote that I was looking for this bottle and finally get to swap out the picture on my profile of this fragrance with with the correct bottle. This was a gift from by boss over 10 years ago. She was old enough to be my mother and was cleaning out her perfume selection. This was strong, dark and woodsy and right up my alley! Not to mention, ST. JOHN IS ICONIC... I received a small Eau De Parfum Spray and a large 3.0 oz. Body Mist. Very unique scent, doesn't remind me of anything I've tried so far, apart from it having that same honey/syrupy apricot "vibe" which Poême and Gucci Accenti also have.

I find the apricot and “oriental flowers” opening of this oppressively sweet. But the drydown is creamy gardenia and sandalwood with spots of amber here and there. Wonderful. So far, I’m undecided if the price of admission of the apricot opening is worth the drydown or not. (Fwiw, the fruit is less long lasting and oppressive than the plum note in Poeme.)

I used to get so many compliments on this! I went through bottle after bottle — and threw them all out darn it! 😞 I wish I’d kept them. Lovely scent. I’d like to find it again.
