Oumma

Oumma is a beautifully and very well blended one more masterpiece from Monsieur Lucas. This perfume is Rose Oud fragrance but delightfully different than the most of them in the market and there is no Vanilla in this. In the same time this is very unisex since it’s not so sweet than most of the roses with Vanilla and it’s not so dark and brash like some of Oud scents can be, I love all those as well though. Oumma opens up with a very fresh Rose and it’s something like a smell of roses after the rain. It’s a little bit like diluted Rose, like a rose water and not in the bad or negative way - it’s really inviting and sensual. Jasmine doesn’t stand out for me I really just get a rose. This blend is quite quickly heavenly smoky and ashy because of the resins and balsamic used in the middle (Tolu Balsam and Peru Balsam) and in the base (Cade oil). That smoky and ashy feeling is not tobacco like or strong, it’s from Cade oil and that’s why it’s very soft, it’s obtained by steam distillation of crude oil and therefore it’s steamy smoky witch is really nice nuance together with that watery rose. Resins and balsamic are typical ingredients used in many scents of Stephané Humbert Lucas and I have written separate post earlier about those scents. Amazing aromatic and warm Burmese Oud base together with earthy, aromatic and woody characters of Nagarmotha completes this whole beauty. This is really captivating blend and I’m sure that even those ones who are not so big fan of either rose or oud can easily like this one, at least this is worth to try. This is unique and this is an art like most of this house’s juices but in this there is not so surprising ingredients combined together so this is a little bit easier to approach I think. What I like most about Stéphane's creations is that they tell stories. Of good and bad, love and war. And struggle. Authentic always and with an unparalleled appreciation of the Middle East whether indulging or reflective. Oumma is a wonderfully deep and mysterious scent and was the first of the SHL777 lineup I fell in love with. Maybe it resonated with me because Oumma has such alluring quiet strength that I would describe its feeling as almost introvert, or even meditative. A monolith of a creation it stands alone without peer approval. Somehow, Oumma just is. Straight away there is deep and tarry leather, which has been subjected to the wear of time, the weather and, it feels, the impact of civilisation - like furrowed skin parched by a merciless sun, but more oily and still human. It feels close and nourishing like warm skin after making love. You can guess the pulsation of a mighty force yet it feels calm and doesn't erupt. Smoke starts to rise from a splintered wooden surface and there, right in the centre of it all, perhaps where those lips touched last, is a memory, a trace, of a dying rose. A slight bitterness, perhaps from the ashes, has covered it and maybe has done so to the jasmine even before. And here is where Oumma remains morphing very little and staying true and resilient. Outstanding longevity and moderate projection with wonderful sillage.

My thoughts on Oumma... straight off the bat, how much you love this, will depend highly on how much money you have. This is one of the most beautifully blended ouds I’ve ever experienced. If you wear perfumes for yourself and can afford it, buy this. It’s gorgeous. It’s worth the price. If you wear perfumes to get noticed, or it’s important to you to project high silage, than maybe it’s not worth the price. There’s nothing remarkable about this fragrance for the general perfume lover. It’s a Middle Eastern rose oud combo. Nothing special. But if this type of fragrance is what you live for...there’s nothing that comes close. I’ve sampled a TON of middle eastern rose/oud combos, this is THE BEST. Perfectly blended. Gorgeous composition. This is a straight 10/10. But for a general perfume lover, the slight nuances that make this fragrance remarkable, are so slight next to much cheaper options, that at the end of the day....you don’t need to spend this coin on a fragrance like this unless you are after the holy grail. Which this, hands down is. Nothing holds a candle to this.

Dark,mystic,elegant and clean.This is how I'd classify this gem. Once again Stephane Humbert Lucas is one step forward with its line.Quality isn't forgotten and any less masterly. I feel a mix of Opus VII and Incense Oud,anyway completely unique. The former was related because its own smoky feeling sensation,very clean and sharp.I'd say almost fresh therefore never suffocating.The latter was reminded as I got the rosy incense vibe which develops into a wealth balsamic accord followed by pinch of "silence". I don't want describe the notes,however in the wide range of oud/rose this one is still compelling,you might sample it. Longevity is around 7-9 hours.Linear after dry down yet never boring. Edit: definitely one of my favorites incense inducted fragrance ever.Probably because of Cypriol oil obtained from steam process.It is bitter,wood-earthy and give the depth which make this perfume so mystic. I love it!

This is a mesmerizing Amber Woody fragrance and possibly SHL best creation. I’ve sniffed hundreds of middle eastern Rose/Oud combos, nothing comes close. At the top Leathery accord from Saffron along with soft hints of sweet Roses and Jasmine. In heart, resinous and balsamic with ambery nuance from Peru Balsam. As time passes, Oumma becomes lighter, drier, powdery and woody. In the drydown it morphs into smokey, slightly phenolic and oily from Cypriol and Myanmar Oud- very realistic Bakhoor like. At the final stage, the floral nuances reappear along with soft woody musky notes. The whole composition is so masterfully created, the sweet-dry-smokey-woody facets are so well composed. Performance is great with 7-8 h longevity and sillage is moderate. This is not a typical Rose/Oud fragrance, the layering is unique. Overall this is an intense, mystic, elegant and no-nonsense scent. Definitely a 10/10.

To say that Oumma is the best Oud-blended fragrance ever made would not be an overstatement. The master of modern oriental perfumery Stephane Humbert Lucas beautifully blends very natural Oud with forals and resins to create this heavenly smoky ashy Oud fragrance. The perfume opens with floral notes of jasmine and Turkish rose. The heart is a balsamic peru and tolu. The perfume settles on a base of Laotian Oud, cypriol oil (very phenolic) and cade soot. Unisex with a pronounced sillage and very good longevity. Oud was never blended so smoothly and smokily like this and probably will never be. Enjoy!

Best rose homme scent I ever had, an amazing rose perfume. I had daily comments "WOW what are you wearing?" from friends for a month now. I really love this scent and that's a bit weird since I never like rose perfumes for men. Don't know if I'm allowed to say this, but this is exactly how amphetamine sulphate powder smells when extra high concentration

Balushi is right, there is a strong phenolic aspect to the opening, like nail polish. It is weird, but oddly addicting. On drydown, this has strong similarities to the opening of Veronique Gabbai Le Point G, but that one ultimately turns powdery.

Oumma is unmistakably beautiful. A little strong at the beginning but it will develop into something intoxicating pleasant and sophisticated complexity. It is one of the most pleasant Oud-Amber fragrances experience.

Woody balsamic myrrh, with a support of osmanthus and a hint of rose. Wow! That said, the price point for SHL frags is not justified, even at that level of quality.

This fragrance smells exactly like a bakhoor they call "mahmool" here in Kuwait. I haven't found another fragrance like it. Had to get!

I tried this last night and I wasn't loving it. It has a very heavy resin scent to me and the rubber scent overpowered everything to me. This morning I put it on my skin and for the first drydown it was like I had rubber wristbands on. However, after a half hour, it's lightened up to release the florals. I am shocked at how floral it's developed. I love that I get more of the white floral notes without the headache! This is so heavy on the front I was a bit afraid of it but wow, she's a delicate lady on the back end. Yum! Highly recommend grabbing a sample to see how you like it and give it a run on the skin before deciding.

Something about the initial opening threw me a bit but after just a couple minutes it changes to a nice powdery rose (which is exactly what I'd expect from SHL). There's a little bit of nice bitterness from the oud and cypriol to provide some balance, but soft rose is the star here. It's ever so slightly feminine to my nose but easily wearable by a man. Gorgeously blended as I have come to expect, but I'll probably skip a full bottle of this as I already have another rose oud scent I prefer.

Scent of wealth.not same at like killian incense oud, but if you like killian incense oud, you'll love this one 1000% more. Smokey clean clear high quality smokey and the oud is soft and so luxurious. Amazing mysterious just a wonderful created perfume. Lovely.

Oumma is a nebulous and very elegant rendition of Caron Secret Oud. I am surprised saffron is not on the list: it is probably the effect of cypriol oil, which also makes the bouquet stand apart from the traditional blends of rose-oud. A good attempt but déjà vu.

Am I the only one who finds this a fairly generic synthetic oud floral?

أنا من محبي البلسميات بشكل عام، ومن عاشقي التولو وبيرو بلسم على وجه الخصوص. ودائما ما أتوقع من أي منهما الكثير وها أنذا قد عثرت عليهما مجتمعين.. حسنا.. سأكتب هذا التقرير بشكل مباشر الرائحة ستذكرك بالكثير من العطور الشرقية السيطرة في العطر هي للبلسميات وليست أبدا للعود الملاحظة السلبية هي أن البلسميات ليست طبيعية بشكل تام فهناك مكون يحمل لمحات صابونية صناعية مكثت حوالي ربع الساعة أفتش داخل عقلي عن العطر الذي ما يزال يجول أمام مخيلتي منذ بدأت في تجربة "أمة". ومرة واحدة قفزت إلى ذهني هذه الخاطرة ولماذا أبحث بين العطور إن الرائحة قريبة جدا من... "المخلطات الزيتية العربية" إنها خلطة القرشي وخلطة أخرى قريبة لشركة السرتي. لالالالا.. بل هناك ما هو أقرب لأمه منهما لن أستسلم لهذا التقارب بينه وبين خلطات القرشي والسرتي فالرائحة لخلطة أعرفها جيدا فقد كانت منتشرة بشكل كبير في دول الخليج منذ حوالي 10 سنوات. وقد أهداني منها صديق كمية كبيرة غير أنها أعجبت أحد الأصدقاء فأهديتها له، وقد كان كريما معي هو الآخر "وشال أيده من على رقبتي ورجع المطواة لجيبه"، مفيش ف الدنيا أجمل من الأصدقاء الأوفياء. Does Stephane Humbert add a Phenol such as Cresol to Oumma and Qom Chilom. I definitely smell a Cresol or the chemical added to insulin that both preserves it and gives it that unique smell that some might call medicinal in my sample of Oumma. I have not been able to get a sample size of Qom Chilom and I just bought the 1990's cologne Stephanie that has a smoky cherry scent for half the price of Qom Chilom (and that was two bottles). Another interesting fact is you can taste Cresol in some Whisky because the moss on the wood in the area contains the compound and is burned during the distilling process. Just thought you guys might like to know. I hear Qom Chilom also has a medicinal scent and I would love to know if they mean a cresol such as that found in insulin. I love Oumma. I wanted to see what the fuss was all about with Stephane Humbert. However, for now I'll be buying up on discontinued scents since I'm not 485 dollars WOWED BY THE COLOGNE and the new cheaper colognes don't ADHERE WELL (I'm thinking of Ushers VIP. I love the scent. It is close to Chanel Anteus. But, It doesn't LAST AT ALL. I could go through a bottle in a month.)

Oumma/Ummah is the Arabic word for the 'Islamic Nation' and refers to the Muslim community as a single body around the world. In honor of this Congregation, Stéphane Humbert Lucas has created a fragrance clearly inspired by the Middle East, as he knows how to do masterfully. Oumma already opens super smoky and balsamic, muffling over a thick mist of incense smoke and ashes the beautiful floral bouquet of roses and jasmine. An atypical dark interpretation of the duet 'oud and rose, coming out of the sameness of the vast majority of European perfumes, centered on this accord. Here dry powdery roses are in the background and the supremacy is of the warm and opulent Burmese Oud mixed with something that reminds me of tar, ash, smoky dark woods and balm bringing a realistic aspect of a fiery bakhoor (incense) suspended in the air burning in the center of the room. A Dark Arabesque Amber Floral Woody Balsamic Smoky perfume. Although the combination 'Oud & Rose' is familiar, Oumma still has enough uniqueness to offer lovers of this accord. A legitimate bottled Bakhoor! with good performance.

Even though many people consider Oumma as a rose-oud fragrance, I see it as a balsamic incense fragrance that uses the Peru and Tolu Balsams in a masterful way. I don’t completely agree with the pyramid listed on fragrantica as the fragrance opens on my skin with the Tolu and Peru balsams with rose on top of them. I struggle to identify the jasmine note but I do some times get hints of an indolic jasmine note in the heart. The fragrance in the drydown is joined by a resinous Burmese Oud, but it is not as prominent as the balsams. There is a smoky leathery and phenolic aspect to the scent which feels almost like birch tar, I did not find any leather accord listed on fragrantica and the burmese oud doesn’t feel leathery. Then, I found out that Cade was actually used in this fragrance to provide the smoky leathery character to the scent. Overall, the experience I get is a smoky ashy scent that almost feels like incense made of oud, balsams and rose burning on top of charcoal but with added leathery feel.

This house DNA is oriental style and especially Arabic or leaning more toward Arabic , I have 5 from this house very nice but to me very familiar scents the old style Arabian blending perfumes that is very good quality and nice for daily use “ I mean and I detect that feel in oumma, black gemstone and WCT” but not the most luxurious, it remind me of the old bottle 80’s & early 90’s of mukallet” mixed oils” that is nearly empty but the perfume oil remains in the bottom and it’s aged and forgotten, this one rosey Oud bonded by balsamic with slight of vicksy vibe maybe it’s the cypriol oil and it’s a bit more rosy balsamic than rosy Oud the Oud is not heavy in the base , but in general the perfume density not heavy or almost and pleasantly you want to smell it, very nice in sillage imo, If I’m not mistaken the name aims to “nation” Arabic translated to oummah.

Sweet, smooth balsams pairing with a muted oud -- stunning stuff. It's just too tame for me, though. I love my stank (in doses), and this one is just TOO polite, too well-behaved and just too pleasant. Sounds dumb, I know, but I was hoping to get a massive slap (from reading the note pyramid). Anyway, this is STUNNINGLY beautiful, but of course, I don't go for that sort of stuff...!

This is very nice. To me it's a very smooth oud/rose combination. Has me second guessing though because I've smelled this before in S.T. DuPont oud. Might be too much like the others. It's not groundbreaking and a little too pricey for something that's not unique. Just my opinion...

It’s as if Rosendo no 5 & black aoud from montale had a baby. I love it .!! So unique , very middle eastern , but not sure if FB worthy, if people are saying it doesn’t last... I’ll continue to test on skin

it smells exactly like by kilian pure oud. oud in this fragrance is like minty fresh. am I the only one who thinks oud smells like mint ?

If I could squeeze 4 or 5 hours of longevity from this it would be a masterpiece. Sadly it vanishes after two hours at most
