Rose de Petra

Petra Oh Petra... Petra is the carved town on the pink mountain resides in the desert of Jordan in the middle east. it's a around 2000 old. i remember they might be having a connection to Mada'in Saleh which resides in west north side of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia because both of them shows similarity of an amazing carved mountains & rocks. now Mada'in Saleh has an amazing story which is written in the Holy QURAN since 1400 years. they were the Prophet Saleh's nation called Thamood, they had been givin an amazing strength to build such city or as a matter of fact carve their city, but they weren't that good people as they were packed with an extreme ego. Prophet Saleh has called them for the Monotheism but they were so fund of themselves & as said, packed with ego. furthermore, they have asked him for miracle in order to believe that he is a prophet, so they have asked for a camel, and specifically they have asked for a pregnant Camel with a certain birth date for it's baby. and their wish was obeyed. a grand stone split in half and there was a camel, but as GOD's Order prophet Saleh told them not to touch the camel and let it eat and live as it is. later, Prophet Saleh said that God said (as a challenge) the Camel is going to drink from the water every other day and those days that it'll drink none of you shall drink from the water but you can drink from it's milk and it'll be quite enough to fit all of you. so they did but their hatred and malice to Prophet Saleh had grew quite huge. after few days 2 ladies came to their town. one of them was ferociously rich and the other has quite beautiful daughters. They said "whoever kills this camel will be rewarded with money and daughters as much as he request". so 2 men stepped forward one of them named Mesra'a & the other one was Kidar Ibn Salef and offered to kill the GOD's Camel. afterwards, 7 other men has joined the 2 men to kill GOD's camel. they have Besiege the camel within the mountains and Kidar Ibn Salef killed it with a bow and so it's child as it was trying to runaway but unfortunately it couldn't. later on that day they went back to Prophet Saleh happy & laughing & challenging him saying "we've killed GOD's Camel so where is your GOD's Punishment you've stated before?" Prophet Saleh Gone crying knowing that GOD's Punishment is coming no matter what. so he went to them and said "you can enjoy and rejoice this life for 3 full days, and after those 3 days will be The descent of torment" then he complete " on the first day your faces will go yellowish, the second day your faces will go red, & the 3rd day your faces will go black". so it happened, the first day their faces turned yellow, and on the next day went red, and the third day went black so they went panic and knew that the agony is coming. on the third day, the same 9 men gathered again and decided to kill Prophet Saleh and his family thinking that The torment will be gone for good. so they have gathered at his house while he was praying wanting to kill him but they couldn't. GOD have sent them rocks that fell from the sky and killed all the 9 men. later on the 4th day's morning all the people were in their houses waiting for the torment to decent, as Gabrielle descended upon them and sent a yell that smashed their hearts, they couldn't even budge from their seats, and all of them were annihilated & it was a complete perdition. all died but Prophet Saleh, the other believers, & a maid who had escaped that town before the 4th day morning to another town and told them the whole story. she was very tired and thirsty, & when she drank from their water she got annihilated by the lord. controversy between how they became after death as GOD said in his book (فَكَانُوا كَهَشِيمِ الْمُحْتَظِرِ) so few said it's like burning bones, other said it's like ashes from walls. That was Mada'in Saleh's story it's also called AlHijr or Hegra. it's not a good place to visit as Al-Petra cause it is cursed (not as movies for sure or the ghosts things) and even Prophet Mohammad have said few about it not to go there, and never stay overnight there no matter what. and as said few says it's has that similarity to Petra and both happened in the same era so i guess there is a connection there. now to the fragrance: it is the most extreme good flower that i can ever get. im literally not into flower notes at all but this one got me quite harsh, flowery hintly sweetish, freshly dark, and overwhelming love. the pepper gives the impression of that dusty effect that describes those amazing carving on the mountains. & the cumin and cardamom on the dry down is slight and gives the cooling breeze of that mountain's castles. it's love to me. and to be honest i do fall in love for any scent that has an amazing inspiration towards an ancient historical place, i didn't read Stephane's inspiration but as long as he named it Petra then it's mine :) i thought for once that the main draw back of this masterpiece was it's longevity & i was completely wrong cause as i've said on other fragrances, some perfumes are meant to be light and not overpowered so it will be amazingly pleasant rather than disturbing just like this one. what you need to do is to apply later on.

Petra might be carved out of pink sandstone mountains but Rose de Petra is a full-bodied dark red rose (if dark burgundy had a scent this would be it) arising majestically after the spiced dust clears just as the ancient city arises from the unforgiving coral desert. Pepper is a tricky note for me, as much as I enjoy it in my cuisine and having light-hearted trysts with samples, a long term relationship is usually difficult. Failed romances include TDC's Rose Poivree (I wanted more cumin, I got too much pepper)and Amouage's gorgeous Epic Woman that I love smelling on others but the dry spices start out too intense for my own wearing before the scent fades disappointingly into a muted shadow of its former glory (yes I suffer from Goldilocks's syndrome, things have to be just right). Rose de Petra is perfectly proportioned for me. Joyfully sweet and luscious meets a dark bloodied rose meets an excited crowd of nose tingling dry spices. All the notes blend beautifully together and create a hot pulsating creature with a mysterious air and exotic bloodlines. Sillage is modest, it's appreciated by others without being intrusive and longevity is decent. While I can't stroll through the Siq under the guidance of thousands of candles, Rose de Petra is as perfect as I get to a Bedouin romance while sitting at my desk in the tropics.

Soft beautiful rose. It comes and goes longer than I expected. At some points of the day I think its goine and the a beautiful elegant soft luxurious light rosey smokey breeze makes a debuting anchor. I find this reminds me of the former amouage turkish and bulgarian rose attars. Not the same but much kin. I get a very luxurious whiff of high grade white musk . Mainly rose and a very soft rose a unique rose of wealth.so so understated elgantly adoring perfume. I am so enemored. If someone loves lyric woman it will be a new love for rose de petra. This is a fragrance for any time any culture and any moment . Edit 01 August 2014 This is so beautiful. No scent of cumin what so ever. Today I pick up smoke and the rose is undeniably beautiful. Cardimon is very smooth in the opening. I am really surprised that anyone in rating put dislike. Its attractive, gentle and very elegant. Very pleasing and smooth. Nothing ever cloying. Most well blended. LOVE LOVE LOVE.

I am not a big fan of rose scents, but this one is the best I have ever smelled in the category "rose still alive". I am totally in love with Calypso from R. Piguet, but there is geranium bringing dried rose petals back to life. I wanted to have a rose perfume that wouldn't hurt my nostrils and remind me of the velvety burgundy red roses. I searched... until I came upon Rose de Petra. I bought it, blind, after your reviews. When I smell this I can imagine sun heated stones on a beach in Greece with roses in a garden by the shore. Salty water gathering the scented air and washing with it these "petras"... Warm sligtly sweet incensey smokey jamy creamy spicy rose. Yes, the rose is the discrete base for all the other notes. A perfect blend with staged evolution from "good" to "better" to "the best". Unisex? Could be... I smelled it on males too, but rose is really and actually a classical utterly feminine and romantic fume.

Rose de Petra is a magical perfume, cathartic in its metamorphosis, so smooth in its transitions like a beautiful daydream. The fragrance opens somewhat raw, with distinct unlisted notes of saffron and oud -- a little sour and delicately sharp to open, rather spirited. As the salient notes retreat, the most incredible transformation takes place. Cardamom in its smoothest rendition envelops the fragrance, then breathes to life a rose of pure divinity -- resinous, velvety, soft, like thick pourable cream flavored with a delicately spiced rose and infused with subtle smoky wood. She is quietly immaculate and fleshy. With incredible depth, this rose has the feeling of having been everywhere but has found solace in her quiet character. Rose de Petra is a sensual, mysterious, wise, humble rose with hidden secrets.

Such a beautiful dry rose! Although I think my absolute opulent rose is Lyric by Amouage (which has no relation to this one) Rose de Petra is maybe next in the very oriental roses. It’s a rich, dense but bright rose, macerated in spices on a background of old leather (and cedar I would say). The pepper and cardamome compliment perfectly the bright rose which I imagine not pink or pale rose but a full burgundy velvety one. It is not a novelty or a very unique rose interpretation (like Lyric can be), nor fully opulent or champagne sparkling - like Paris is in the western style rose category - but instead it is so elegantly done and rich that it holds it place perfectly in a very big sea of oriental rose accords. In other words a sure value (provided you like very oriental roses not the English garden ones).

Maybe I got a different bottle then those under me. Mine is very sweet, not in a cloying way. This to my nose is an exceptional oriental rose it does, like others say, lean a little feminine, but I wear what I think smells great, I don't care which way it leans. The reason I don't wear this in public, however, is the performance. I have sand for skin and no longer like to reapply throughout the day. This has left most Stéphane's fragrances on the shelf tbh. I think he is a master, maybe my second favorite nose behind Christian provenzeno. But I wish he would concentrate some of my favorite scents of his. I guess he thinks it will kill the scent profile he's looking for. Oh well, I wear his scents all the time, just most of the time at home after I shower.

I’m glad I’ve ordered again after loosing the bottle in the crazy move across the world during Covid. This fragrance is unspeakably beautiful. It has a slight classy spicy chypre vibe like from vintage bottle of the Red Moscow by the New Dawn or Shalimar, but this one is not Grammy one at all. Just enough to imagine yourself back to 60ies when you holding this classy looking bottle and spraying on your wrists and neck, finishing with expensive French lipstick before going out for dance. I wouldn’t call it floral... but florals and fruit notes definitely round up spice. I see myself wearing it during summer when it’s hot and humid outside. It’s a very distinct scent and in no way synthetic.

I love spicy, dusty rose fragrances, and this must surely be one of the best. I'm also very fond of cardamom and rose, and cardamom is very prominent in Rose de Petra. It also has some greenness and freshness in it perhaps from some tree moss or oak moss. I smell that dusty, smoky note in it. The litchi and pomegranate add a slight tartness, but mainly it's resinous and seems to have tonka. A wonderful evening perfume, more for cooler weather, but just a gorgeous rose humming in the background of the Middle Eastern notes. One of my new favorites out of my rose perfumes.

After having Lyric by Amouage and Atomic Rose by Initio, this is the rose fragrance I've been missing and looking for! It is perfectly blended as a highend parfume and way more sophisticated than Lyric and Atomic Rose...they were just too linear and really not inspiring. Lyric was OK but leaning too much to the feminine side. Wish it was bottled with 100ml or 125ml....and had the longevity from Atomic Rose. A bewitching floral gourmand creation centered around a note of the most beautiful and delicate Bulgarian rose. Here the rose is blended with luscious fruit accords (litchi and pomegranate) and spices (cardamom, pepper and cumin). The resulting juice is a bright radiant unisex beauty with a moderate sillage and projection that will appeal even to non rose fans. The fragrance lingers on skin and induces feelings of pleasant euphoria. Lovely!

An effervescent sweet candied bubbly rose, but not tooth-achingly so. If rose soda pop were to ever be a thing (I know, I know, I'm provincial), then this would be the smell of it. It is love in a bottle. I can easily say unisex. A delightful delightful smell. Not a masterpiece or groundbreaking, but is easily breathtaking. A 10 easy. SHL painted a picture with this one. Everything is so balanced, nothing out of place.

A jammy, but fresh, cumin-y rose. The spiciness feels almost anisic (like birch beer?) in the opening and the texture is for lack of a better word textured. It feels like birch beer x jammy rose x kitchen spices and despite the birch beer smell, it smells mealy in texture... like rosey, spicy, chunky, anisic oatmeal. The drydown reminds me of Rose 31. I like it.

A stunningly beautiful sheer, slightly spicy rose of great delicacy and beauty. Subtle and provocative, the fragrance hovers around the body like a veil. I need this in my life. The most beautiful rose I've smelled to date. Medium silage, excellent longevity, over 10 hours.

Honestly not super rosey, maybe it’s more Rose de Mai. I really like it. This is what I had hoped MFK L'Homme À la Rose would have been. Among the SHL’s I’ve tried, this may be the one I buy.

I bought it blind buy based on this rieviews. It was a big surprise becouse I can detect strong violet notes here and nobody wrote it. For me violet is the strongest note here. In the beginning there is the rose- lichi- cardamom trio but after one hour they are settles down and comes the violet. (Somebody wrote that it is a velvety parfüm- violet makes it velvety.) After all it is a pleasant parfume, not a love but a like. :)Strong sillage and good longevity.

Although I enjoy this perfume overall, there is some strange fizziness I get. I always find myself wanting more depth and spiciness, but can't get there. A beautiful scent, but not the right rose for me.

RdP requires some patience. At first wear, I judged it too quickly and forgot that it needed to develop and shapeshift as many SHL creations do. At first, it is just a spicy, dusty, high pitched, if subtle and sheer rose with a tart fruitiness, but it felt unfinished. Throughout its development, remains sheer and wispy and weaves in and out, until eventually it becomes increasingly more present. Eventually the spices warm up and envelop the rose, and then it becomes dustier and I’d swear there is violet in there, and there is a woodiness in the base, perhaps some amber, but these notes are not listed on the house website. The rose is not the main player any more. It does remind me of the desert, somewhat. Dusty and dry. Again, SHL demonstrates his understanding of how the weights of the materials play against one another and settle out over time. This one isn’t really my cup of tea, but I totally respect the art of it.

Oriental, sensual and animalistic rose... The rose, cumin, cardamom and pepper are all I can smell. I do not get any hint of litchi. I don’t know why but I smell some tea leaves... probably the mix of pomegranate with the spices? I the dry down is really interesting though. Rose and bunch of spices. But too spicy for my taste. I second the review inder this. Its all dusty powdery. Comes of a bit old fashioned and femenin leaning. The opening is nice but it drys down to funky 1950ies rose powder no cardamon detected, not much cumin or pepper in the drydown.

Rose de Petra (Record from Sniff party) It was wried to me, the rose is prominent for a first few seconds before it crush to something reminds me of sweeten spicy carbonated-drink. Rose is all gone. She just might not choosing me

Let me preface that I blind bought this fragrance o mecari. But I get zero litchi and pomegranate. There’s almost zero sweetness here. Super dry and peppery. All I smell is the cumin and pepper. Even Cardamom usually has a sweeter touch. This is not what I was expecting from the notes or the other reviews. For me a total fail. I will give it more time to maybe grow on me or evolve..but I’m really thinking of selling.

Not a fan.... An overly sweet yet dry spicy rose.

This was not what I expected at all! In a good way! I had read the notes, so didn't really feel like testing it in store during the current heatwave of 42°c, since this seemed like more of a fall fragrance. The seller insisted I try it, and wow! I was really surprised by the freshness. THIS is what fresh spicy rose means! There's something almost cola-like in the opening. Then it gets very very rose forward, with the pepper and cumin and cardamom keeping things spicy throughout. The litchi and pomegranate are barely noticeable, and merely bring some juiciness so the composition never feels dry. I love the way the notes are balanced and blended here. Leans a little feminine but not by much IMO. Longevity and projection are moderate in this fragrance-destroying heat, but probably much better in cooler weather. Very strong like!

This is beautiful and thick and dense, and ultimately too "much" for me. The opening is strong and sweet; prominent litchi and pomegranate make for a fruited rosewater sensation. It's "juicy" moreso than "wet." Thick and jammy; lovely, but not my personal preference. The rose blooms in heavily, intoxicating; and dominates the entire rest of the scent. Rose de Petra progresses steadily and surely on with its heavy, opulent cloud. The fruits give way to the spices; rich and dense spices (I prefer spices on the airier side). The projection is comfortably strong, with a cloud of fragrance and a light wake. And the scent lasts, steadily, upwards of 6 hours and whispers at the skin for several more.

Rose de Petra is a beautiful spicy oriental rose fragrance. It has a bright fruity opening consisting of a prominent mouthwatering combination of lychee and pomegranate accords (lychee is more prominent) with hints of rose. Then, a beautiful balanced and natural Bulgarian rose accord appear and it is the main star of this fragrance while the spices (cardamom and pepper) add an interesting twist. The cumin becomes prominent in the late drydown and I get a vanilla-like sweetness in the drydown as well with a woody cedar like touch probably coming from the Iso E Super

Amazingly beautiful rose. Soft, spicy, bright, warm. One of my favourite rose fragrances. It wears like a cashmere shawl. What I also like is the interplay of notes, the fact I can distinct some of them and that they seem to move like a fluid: some come on stronger only to disappear and re-appear again. The fragrance is pretty much the same from start to end but I don't mind it at all since there is so much going on. Rose the Petra never becomes boring. Great fragrance from a great house, quickly becoming one of my favourites.

Class. What a unique scent, dark jammy tarty rose, with nuances of litchi and pomegranate, with some spices that follow, the cumin and peppers blended with the strong rose give off a typical attar vibe, upscale, royal to an extent. There's something warm, and sultry in the rose with this scent maybe something like a papyrus note, this can be worn in those summer evenings, definitely not for the extreme winters. Overall this is a one of a kind rose scent, and my favorite from SHL777

To me this is a 100% *warm* spicy scent. I have a dabber sample so may play a role but I barely detect the rose because the cardamom and cumin are so strong. Luna Atelier des Ors springs to mind, the spices are (for me) a little overwhelming I have had to realise cardamom isn't something I can handle in big doses. Very strong here, lichi, (and to my nose the rose) is lost on this one.

Another review says this smells like Feminite Du Bois on the dry down and I agree a bit. On paper test strip its pretty exact but on skin it is just reminiscent. Feminite Du Bois is one of my favorite perfumes but it has terrible lasting power and projection so I'm actually extremely happy to have found this because it preforms much better and has a similar vibe.

Complex indeed. I can pick it the rose and cardamom, which are in interesting mix. I learning that I don't like prominent cardamom notes, but this is very much worth trying for those who do.

Rose De Petra is like Delina PDM gone spicy oriental. Very oriental, but the litchee is still there and the sweetness is perfectly balanced. Stunning rose, love it!

I have a bottle for sale. Please DM !! Rose and mint are okay after drydown. Opening is too strong and cloying for me.
