Le Sully

This is such a lovely spring scent. Super elegant and with potential to become a classic and a signature scent for many who are into wearable niche fragrances. This is to me highly wearable, but not neccesarily a crowd pleaser or something you could find at the designer counters. But perhaps among the more exclusive lines of the designers like Chanel, Celine and such sleek and classic perfume lines or Guerlain Iris Ganache (which has been mentioned by several reviewers and which it for sure bears resemblance to but is still unique enough to not be considered a dupe for to me...) It’s composition is also in a lot of ways classic in so that it is a composition of different notes that are not necessarily meant to be detected or deconstructed by your nose but rather experienced as a new whole, for its own uniqueness in the composition. I also do not get the notes description of this here at Fragrantica. According to Stéphanie de Bruijn’s website the note description for this is as follows: Top note : Bergamot Middle note : Orris, Gardenia, Liquoris Base note : Benzoin, Amber, Vanilla, Chocolate So it is as you can see not really an iris flower perfume! But it does have a light handed powdery composition that offers a deeper interpretation of the iris flower but here created through the combination of orris (which is the root of the iris flower) gardenia and liquorice root. And it creates a different iris kind of feel that doesn’t to me make it as super dry and powdery as some powdery iris formulations can be. And it also makes the iris interpretation to me less violet-leaning. The bergamot also stops it from becoming lipsticky, or cloying but rather together with the benzoins and the amber keeps it within the realm of clean freshness like sort of the experience of the whole of a hair or beauty salon rather than smelling like a vintage powder compact or a particular old school lipstick. In essence there is a bit of lighter freshness to it that keeps it also from feeling like a gourmand - despite the very gourmandise base notes of chocolate and vanilla. Again you experience Le Sully more like a wholeness rather than for its individual notes. From that perspective I find this to be a rather linear composition. That doesn’t change much throughout its dry down and wear. Right off the bat however the bergamote and the the initial fumes sometimes for me gives off a whiff that reminds me of my mothers generations of hair spray - in the best sense I might add. But that whiff does not linger but dissipates and allows for the fragrance to fully come to life. But perhaps that is what makes me think of a vintage hair salon where ladies sat in those hair dryer helmets and got their hairs coiffed and drank coffee, gossiped and perhaps were offered a piece of fine dark chocolate... But again with a twist that takes this classic composition into our times but still manages to keep the elegance to it... On me Le Sully performs very well and I easily get 8+ hours of wear that offers a silage that makes people detect it from mostly more than an arms length. It is still a French classic type of perfume which means it is elegant and therefore never beast mode as that is not the vibe of fine classic French perfumerie. But still offers a nice scent bubble. I can’t really say I find many similar fragrances to this that I know of or have in my collection. But it reminds me of the feeling I can get from some other fragrances. And to explain what I mean with that is for instance Le Sully gives to me in spring the same kind of powerful vibe that Teint de neige from Lorenzo Villoresi does during winter. They are two different fragrances but fills out the same sort of function but for me in different times. Teint de Neige (True to its name as Neige means snow in French) is just too much for me during spring. But I can get the same full on elegance from Le Sully during spring when it perfectly balances the experience of when the sun begins to break through and the birds start to sing and nature comes alive. On comparing it with Iris Ganache I can totally see that vibe. But even though I do not have a bottle of that available to me and it’s been a while since I smelled it - I still think Le Sully is different from it. And to me the difference lies much in the fact that Le Sully is built around the orris root and not the iris flower in itself. And I also think that the liquorice gives Le Sully quite a unique twist that also tones down the sweetness quite a bit. I mean this is a sweet leaning fragrance. But not super sweet. And the liquorice partly is the reason. Again. I don’t get a very noticeable note of liquorice in this or any other standing out note. Instead this is a fragrance blended to perfection to make a new wholeness from the individual ingredients. So one does not need to be afraid that this smells strongly of liquorice. It’s a very elegantly blended fragrance that I am happy to own and will use a lot this spring and probably also a lot during the coming fall. I find this perfect for the transitioning seasons to give them more contour and appreciation. ❣️

A wonderful, velvety and sultry perfume. The vanilla, the amber and the iris melt together to create a stunning sillage. It is opulent but the iris freshens up the whole composition. Good projection on my skin. 6-8h of duration. An new obsession for me.

1st impression: Woah! I’ve never got to test Iris Ganache 😞I only sampled Dua brand Iris & white chocolate -which has a very strong fecal overtone (a litter box with poop actually) to the fragrance which renders it unwearable but once the opening settles it smells beautiful. Le Sully opening smells almost exactly like the Iris Ganache dupe but smoother and without any fecal tones. I’m getting a lot of white chocolate and waxy lipstick Iris. I also pick up the musk which is creating a suede accord. There’s some animalic nuances here that keeps me intrigued. It feels well balanced and high quality. I don’t smell anything “cheap” Seems to wear close to the skin but I under spray. Cant wait to spend more time with Le Sully. 2nd impression. I’m picking up muted Violet and a chalky Iris. I think what I originally thought was a waxy Iris is actually gardenia. Le Sully dries down to become a doughy, more velvety vanilla. I had to spray a lot to pick up on a lot of these tones. Le sully is a very nuanced fragrance. Wouldn’t say this is a heavy vanilla but I’m still not sure what I’m smelling. I can say now that I own Iris Ganache the only part that reminds me of IG is the Violet and chalky Iris opening. I wish this projected more. 4th impression: I’m wearing it next to Iris ganache: They smell nothing a like. I realize this smells almost identical to Lolita Lempicka Elixir sublime!

Of course I tried this because of the comparisons to Iris Ganache, which I have never smelled, unfortunately. So while I can't speak to how close the two compare, smelling this does make me pine to get my nose on Iris Ganache even more. In that it's very pretty, and gives me an impression of Iris Ganache, even if it's not a literal dupe. I get a waxy iris, like lipstick, chocolate, cinnamon, and liquour. I find this to be a very mature fragrance, a scent profile of something I might wear in my 50s or 60s. I think it's also quite a dense fragrance, which is probably what gives it a more mature vibe. It certainly creates more mystery for me around Iris Ganache, and I hope I'll get to smell that one day. I can't say this smells horrendous, independent of it's likeness to Iris Ganache. This is absolutely a wearable, nice perfume in it's own right.

Vintage lipstick meets warm vanilla and soft chocolate. The iris gives it a powdery, velvety feel while amber adds depth and comfort. It’s refined and mysterious.

At first spray, it smelled like vanilla soda. My husband insists it smells like vanilla coke. After 20 minutes it smells like it leans between the realm of sweet vanilla candy and sweet play doh on my skin. As it dries down, it’s less sweet and sits closer to the skin and my husband says he likes it at this stage. Weirdly I don’t hate it. I keep trying to smell it again. I can’t tell if I like it or if I’m just intrigued.

i was telling a friend that this reminds me of mugler's aura line, it's got avatar vibes; milky green fruity, super alive.

I probably need to buy some pot from people who marked this as being similar to Iris Ganache, because these two have nothing in common. I have Iris Ganache. They have zero similarities. For starters, Iris Ganache is a masterpiece, and Le Sully is effin horrendous. Just a bad perfume all around. Smells like plastic, litter box that's overdue for cleaning, and faint whiffs of gardenia. It feels unfinished... like a draft of something that could potentially be good (but not great).

I'm getting a very powerful, kind of tart hard candy with an amber-iris flavor. Strangely I get a kind of menthol quality as well, I can feel it coating my nose and throat the way a menthol lozenge would. Not what I was expecting, and I'm not sure I want to have it on long enough to find out what the dry down is like. It's overwhelming my senses so much I can hardly smell the other samples I ordered along with this one.

Sharp and powdery iris, vanila, musk. Somewhat reminds me of Lolita Lempicka's works.

This is horrible! Smells like cat pee, which might be the bergamot. It is NOWHERE close to Celine's ZouZou, not one similarity, even though they appear to share some notes in the profile. ZouZou is so beautiful. Do not blind buy Le Sully, it is not a safe blind buy.

I smelled the perfume today and I immediately thought of Guerlain's Iris Ganache. Of course, it's not the exact same perfume but the iris and the vanilla-chocolate gourmand accord still gives it a similar vibe. Especially in the opening! Worthy checking out!

A beautiful fragrance for spring. This is the closest thing so far I've smelled to Iris Ganache. It is not a dupe but close and it is so pretty.

There is no liquor note its licorice...
