Stetson Legend

This have climbed up on one of my favorite fragrances of all time, I know this is not for everybody, but to me it goes well for me reminds me a little bit of curve gold this like a version of curve gold but more mature, the note of cactus I love it it's so earthy, masculine, aromatic and mysterious, I liked it this, someone gifted me a decant and then went and I bought me a full bottle.

I’m absolutely stunned how good this is. I personally think every man should own a bottle of this. To my nose it’s better than Santal 33. If it had a tad better performance it would be a 10/10 for the price.

Woody, Spicy, Masculine. Got mine CHEAP on Amazon. Not as All-year Friendly as Black, but still a great scent. No notes!

I love a number of Stetson releases (Stetson Original, Stetson Spirit, Stetson Caliber) and when I heard about this one especially being a woody fragrance with leather, I was excited for it. Stetson Legend was the second of the releases of Stetson under Scent Beauty rather than Coty (after Stetson Spirit.) This really very much a Fahrenheit style fragrance. I mean it is along the weaker Fahrenheit style fragrances so don't expect a beast at all like many clones namely Curve Black. That said, it a bit of unique take on that style fragrance. Stetson Legend opens with a unique mix of prickly pear, pepper and smoke. The smoke mixes with mesquite which I can tell you from my father using a smoker for barbequing. Legend then starts showing leather and due to the smoke and the woodiness, it can smell slightly petrolic which is where the Fahrenheit feeling happens. The base is woody as well with the cedar and sandalwood. It will easily mix with most cedarwood or sandalwood beard oils. Stetson Legend I find is better than Stetson Black, Curve Black and I want to say Hitfire. Curve Black is a joke and a waste of money. Steston Black has little character and Hitfire is good but can be a bit much early on. Stetson Legend is a bit more subdued. There is a number of special qualities to Stetson Legend, namely the mesquite and smoke. The smoke is not like the palo santo wood. Palo santo wood notes have a more smokier take, this is more woody with some smoke. I do think there is some Givenchy Xeryus Rouge in Legend which will set it apart from the Fahrenheit pack like Curve Black or Stetson Black. That is due to the cactus/prickly pear note. Cactus and prickly pear have a similar smell. I can say this due to living in Arizona. I think Legend's is a slight more fruity due to it being a pear. Stetson Legend sadly performs like Curve Black and Hitfire. The fragrance lits 4/5 hours of performance and medium projection. It fits for Fall and Winter. Stetson Legend seemingly replaces Stetson Black. The one problem is that Stetson Legend has a bit high price. Instead of being $25 like Stetson and Stetson Spirit and Prefered Stock, Legend is $40. That said, you do get 100mls for it. For this reason, I think Stetson Legend is a 7.5 out of 10. Unique take on a known DNA but does not have the performance.

The scent profile is pretty much what I expected: evocative of a small, old, dusty, Southwestern USA town. And Old West cowboy horse hitching posts. I mean its Stetson, right? Dry, dusty, WOODY. Prickly pear, mesquite wood, sage, a little smoke, leather, black pepper, cedar, vetiver, moss. The notes listing itself is evocative of this image, you get it just looking at the notes. So, true to brand theme, and fairly well executed scent profile. Fairly nice profile, although I could have used a bit more sweetness in the background, maybe a bit of amber or even a mild honey note as a tip of the hat to the OG Stetson. As is, Stetson Legend is very dry with almost no sweetness. A good and common scent profile, who's facets can be commonly found in other fragrances. But the performance is ABYSMAL! I sprayed at least 30 times on skin and clothes and got nothing above a whisper. I've had to do that with other "cheapies" such as David Beckham Instinct. I guess it's a common trait with cheapies using cheap, low concentration materials. It seems that a brand could try to match the performance of their OG, however.

An interesting fragrance and a good release from Stetson. Unlike others, I DO detect the cactus in the opening; it has that "spicy ozonic" feel that immediately reminds me of Givenchy Xeryus Rouge with its cactus/pepper notes. As it dries down, it evolves into creamy and peppery wood in the same vein (to my nose) as Eilish No. 2, Dunhill Icon Elite, and SJP Stash. Longevity is good enough for the price, but my skin likes this sort of woody profile (the aforementioned fragrances, minus Xeryus Rouge, last a while on me), so YMMV. The smoked amber glass bottle with gold lettering also looks great. This would make a good gift for a well-groomed 30+ guy. I like it, but I'll be letting my bottle go as I already have too many others that are similar to this, so it's redundant in my collection. Really not bad at all though!

Stetson Legend is a weird one. Very Smoky and Woody. Kind of gives me the vibe of a cowboy drinking whiskey by the campfire. The opening is harsh but I really like the dry down and my girlfriend enjoys it. She says it comes off as very manly. It has become my Fall cologne, I don't know if it really fits with any other season. I would recommend it for someone who wants something woody and smokey for the Fall, but if this is your only fragrance then probably not the best fit. I've also heard that it can be pretty divisive so definitely sample it before buying. Thankfully it isn't expensive. The bottle does look very nice though, very classy looking with the brown and black contrasting nicely with the gold text, and the bottle is shaped like a flask which fits the vibe of this cologne very well

Just purchased it. Getting a lot of sandalwood from it. Sandalwood is not my favorite scent, but Legend is kinda growing on me. To my admittedly untrained nose, there is basically no change in notes, from the first minute all the way to the last. The sandalwood is there to stay. Edit: the missus says it makes me smell like a Christmas tree lol. Not a bad thing, just makes it more of a winter scent, really

Been wearing for a couple days. I think this is ok. It’s not fruity at all, which is disappointing in my opinion. I don’t get the prickly pear note at all. It’s very dry, woody, a little smoky, and a touch of sweetness. I almost get a coconut note. The atomizer is surprisingly good, and the bottle looks nice. Performance is around 6 hours for me, but lasts much longer on clothing.

Smells pretty good. Inoffensive, linear, and manly. The drydown reminds me of a rugged, less fruity version of Curve, (the 90s formulation). The bottle is surprisingly good, and the atomizer is really high quality. Definitely worth the low price tag, in my opinion.

@Tenorsaxophone, I’m not really getting any distinct citrus at all. Maybe like some muddled in the background, and it’s a faint sharpness. I do get pepper first, and it is dominant and then the smoke and woodiness come in and it’s pretty linear from there.

Smells like a shot of whiskey poured over a bundle of fire wood. I personally love the scent, but I can see it being polarizing. Projection is moderate, but last for a long time. 6.5/10

On my skin it just smells like butterscotch... Older, like quite a bit older, women seem to like it though. haha

I see alot of previous reviewers mentioning sandalwood as the dominant note, but I don't get any of that. Too salty to be sandalwood. I own Santal 33, and I don't get people likening the two either...not even a little. What comes through from first whiff until it fades away is the attempt at incorporating prickly pear to evoke the American West, but all it ends up smelling like is PICKLES....or I should say it smells like what pickles taste like. Salty/briny pickles. It's weird to smell like pickles. This is a weird fragrance. Thumbs down.

Blind buy... thought it would be an evolution of Stetson Black, as some of the reviews here suggested. Boy, was that incorrect. This fragrance opens up with an interesting smoked citrus/grapefruit note, and then settles into a very heavy barnyard leather that's diametrically opposed to the vibe from Stetson Black. It's so heavy in fact, that I had the distinct impression that my skin smelled like horse manure. I had to scrub it off with soap. Not for me.

This is a poorly executed clone of Santal 33 by Le Labo. According to Stetson's own website, this fragrance has a higher oil concentration than their other offerings. However, I found this to be incredibly weak. I put two sprays on the back of my hand and could hardly smell it by the time I left the grocery store. If you're looking for this fragrance profile on the cheap, I'd recommend Palo Santo by Cremo. This one is a miss for me. Strange pickle-y smell, incredibly weak, and expensive for what it is. If I'm being fair, I'm not a fan of Santal 33 or any of its clones. I'll stick with Stetson Original. Stetson Original blows this one out of the water in terms of longevity, scent, and complexity.

To my nose this is a lovely western twist on Santal 33. Right away I detect earthy green cardamom with the sweet fruitiness of the prickly pear cactus, and powdery orris root up top. Then you get smoked papyrus vibe in combination with the fuzzy suede leather and black pepper. In the base I get tons of that Smokey mesquite wood that reminds me of a bonfire with a dominant musky sandalwood and a creamy Tonka bean to balance it all out. If you are a fan of Santal 33 you will love this western cowboy twist on the dna. I wonder how a whiskey or rum note would have worked in this fragrance.

This is a nice release, up top I actually get a slightly smoky leather. More of a saddle/cowboy boots kind of leather keeping with the western theme. It moves into a peppery/creamy/woody scent reminiscent of something like Cremo’s Palo Santo, Camuto’s Virtu, and to some extent Santal 33. Performance is lacking for sure, but the presentation is my favorite from any Stetson fragrance. Update: wonderful smoky/woody refined scent but WHY DID THEY MAKE IT SO WEAK?!!

@vdog mkpunk said in another review that it's similar to Stetson black with a bit more smoke and that he even feels due to similarity Stetson black will be discontinued. There's also a review on amazon, a customer confused it for the original Stetson and he said he was wowed by it, unclear wether he meant it was a strong scent or strong performance, but he claimed it was nostalgic . But the best reaction we have so far of it is Stonewolf's comment below.

@joshuabrian, so no citrus either? How about the pepper, is it dominant or evenly blended with the wood and smoke? Any similar fragrance to compare it to? Side note to others, don't purchase through Stetson site, they don't make the fragrance ( they also overcharge, don't cancel, no returns etc ), go to amazon or better yet Fragrance.net instead, it's 25 there currently, no clue why their list price is 40 to begin with.
