Stetson Original

If you own Stetson, this is just the modern formulation. Slightly less powerful than the classic but my review for Coty Stetson, stands for this one. I find that unlike most fragrances that I have come across because I typically like lighter scents like aquatics and fougeres that I can easily spritz twice to three times in the same spot, this one needs only one and still smells strong and lasts almost full day. I eventually learned how to use the splash and it comes out a bit lighter but is still rather strong. I find splashing tames it better. The main notes I get even from the open are the honey, amber and musk. This smells not just 1980's but 1880's but in a good way and I am younger cologne user. For deserts in the American southwest which includes places like Arizona, Texas and California, it is not just a night and winter scent but almost an anytime scent. I would say it is an 8/10. It is a classic that most people don't like and make jokes on but it is a unique different scent. Just be prepared for people to make old man jokes about you since that is the common joke about this scent.

This is hands down my absolute favorite fragrance of all time. I've been wearing it for more than 10 years and I've had A LOT of compliments from it. I've even had women I used to be involved with in the past literally find some way to reach out to me because of how amazing this fragrance is. I've always said this is a cowboy type of fragrance. It's an ambery, leathery, vanilla, MASCULINE scent. I even go as far as to say it's somewhat of a southern scent. This is the ONLY fragrance I personally rate 10/10. I have heard some feedback from people saying it smells like an old lady, baby shampoo or an old man but its very rare that I see comments like that with this fragrance. But it definitely is a mature fragrance. In a world full of overrated and popular designer fragrances, this one is unique and definitely grabs attention. Amazing fragrance.

A bit feminine with baby powder and vanilla, Stetson is nevertheless, paradoxically, masculine enough for macho tough guy manly cowboys who are in touch with their feminine side. I bought Stetson believing that it might be like Chaps; it has only a very slight resemblance. Longevity is fair: I get, with one spray, only about two hours. But, since it is inexpensive and only a cologne, I cannot complain too much about the longevity. So, if you are super macho—cowboy, construction worker, cop, soldier, boxer, biker, politician, etc.—buy a bottle.

I adore this stuff. I don’t care what anybody says. Warm, comforting and nostalgic. Powdery and sweet in the best way. I splash this on after I get out of the shower before I go to bed, I catch whiffs of it throughout the day. The longevity and projection is tremendous. It will get the inevitable snarky comment every now and again. But who cares, I don’t wear this for anybody but me.

I tried to review this prior, but it didn't feel adequate. One thing holds: This is to be paired with Bob Dylan's "Together Through Life," and the novels of Larry McMurtry. Smells best in early autumn. 9/10

This scent reminds me of my uncle. He wore this everyday, and it reminds me of fun summer days at his house. Gets me nostalgic everytime. Amazing fragrance. 👏

powdery, ambery, and spicy. very masculine.

Creamy, boozy, citrus heavy up top. Dirty musk vibe going on for the lifespan of this one. The opening is wonderful. Reminds me of a nice festive class/hotel room at Christmas time. I get some cinnamon too but it's not listed here. Drydown is interesting as it retains that creamy smell but turns into something much more floral and babywipe type smell. It's not a bad thing but I don't know if it suits me. This fragrance doesn't last very long but lord is it a room filler. 2-3 sprays maximum. Best suited for October-December. This is a really Christmasy smelling fragrance and invokes some nostalgia in me that I can't quite put a name or face too. About as mature as a fragrance can get. The vanilla is really rich with the honey and booze notes synergizing to give you a seductive quality. Personally not an everyday wear for me but if I'm feeling a bit more classy than usually I'd reach for it. Scent: 7/10 Uniqueness: 7/10 Longevity: 5/10 Sillage: 9/10 Bottle: 8/10 Price: 10/10

Really nice. Dated in a good way. Citrus appears and disappears in the top at near light speed. But who cares? From there, you get the base rolling in with a powdery musk, creamy tonka and vanilla. Slowly, the sweetness of the honey and spiciness of the amber sneak in, pulling the cedar with them. The patchouli and Vetiver aren't detectable for me personally, but there is a faint earthiness beneath it all. Honestly, a few hours in, it starts to smell like Christmas, which is a nice swerve for an early eighties fragrance that opens as musky and baby shampooey as many other drugstore offerings of the 70s it was born from. Really nice creamy holiday scent. Happy to have picked it up in December

I wore this a lot the year following the first time I watched brokeback mountain when I desperately wanted to be a cowboy (still do). When I smell what’s left in the bottle it reminds me of freshman year of high school. layering shirts to stay warm in the late fall wind—since I refused to wear a jacket—and walking around my neighborhood with my friends since none of us could drive yet. The warm powdery notes make it smell like an old wool sweater that you were finally able to dig out of your dresser after the hot months were over. I love how masculine this scent is without really having a single trace of the sinister Man Cologne Smell.

Beautiful, classic, cheap, and inoffensive. Smells like exactly how the review below mine describes it, but anyone anytime could rock this. Lasts like 2 hours doe, so keep that in mind before you pick it up. Lasts longer on clothes but its cheap and it's in an eau de cologne concentration, so don't expect all day performance. It could also just be my personal bottle or batch. [Mental Imagery]: Every Randy Travis song in one bottle.

Uncomplicated and masculine. A bit boozy. makes me think of cowboys to be honest. (I live in an area where we have real cowboys.) There is a powdery note that emerges that I am not a fan of. Classical scent, and a good example of a masculine chypre. Stetson Original is Moscou Rouge's husband. Perfumes really cling to me so it lasts a longer than 6h on me but it is very faint. Warm. Winter, spring, autumn.

Stetson is a good old fragrance with decent performance. It is powdery but still masculine. I don’t personally get a strong sense of sage but definitely get the musk. The scent is very dated and tends toward the “old man” end of the spectrum. I think it can be worn any season, day or night, as long as the occasion isn’t very formal. It’s still a fragrance I enjoy.

This is an old school classic cologne with a noteworthy warm amber honey scent. It makes me think of mixing Aramis with Tabac Original to get that classic DNA, and then mixing in an amber/honey accord. Not bad at all, but the classic DNA is not really my style. A hard pass if you prefer modern fragrances, but worth getting if you want to branch out to classics.

Had the splash version of this, and after the alcohol opening, the honey and vanilla is a very pleasant masculine scent. Not too loud. Was a great date night scent for me, girlfriend loved it. Went through about 3/4 of a 3.3oz bottle before getting into some different scent territories. Would prefer a spray version, but I liked this scent profile.

Powdery amber vanilla after a strong alcohol opening. Classically masculine, but in a warm way. I have the splash version of this that I got for way too cheap at a liquidator store. Not overly exciting but not bad at all.

A traditional masculine scent. Slightly floral and woody. Good projection and longevity. 6/10

I would put that I hate this scent but honestly for the time period it came out and the continued stellar reviews on Amazon, it’s hard to hate on a classic. That being said, I do not prefer this scent much at all. It has a cool vibe for a super affordable value which is worth mentioning but there is something about the powderyness which I absolutely do not like. I have worn it a bit around work but I never find myself grabbing for it unless I’m in a mood to try something new, and it usually doesn’t go well anyway not here to trash the cologne just wanted to give my honest input. It does sillage is pretty solid, longevity for the price point is not bad. But it has a mature dated vibe which some may find deep nostalgia with but me personally, this gets a solid 5.

This smells like a more amber-y Gucci Nobile.

Smelled like pure baby powder to me.

Interestingly, I just sampled and reviewed an older vintage bottle of Stetson from when it was made by Coty. That formulation actually is dominated an unpleasant and overly hot carnation (clove) note that has been blended with too much eugenol. That Coty formulation has a separate Fragrantica page. This more recent version of Stetson manufactured by Scent Beauty (or Edge Beauty), seems to lack that carnation/clove note. The change may likely be due to 2004 IFRA regulations that began limiting the amount of eugenol in scents. In that particular case, I do fully support the decision as high levels of eugenol feel somewhat akin to pepperspray. I truly hope this newer version is an improved reformulation. However, currently 21 of 22 scent reviewers in the 'This perfume reminds me of' section say that these two versions of Stetson are similar, despite the different notes and main accords. Alas, until I get around to smelling a more recent bottle myself, I'll have to abstain from judgement on the matter.

Walter Whites Routine when going out on a date/to impress a female: At almost exactly the 31:00 minute mark of Season 3 Episode 2 of Breaking Bad titles “Caballo Sin Nombre” you see Walter White freshening up with some Cool Mint Listerine and this Fragrance before taking Walter Jr./Flynn back to Skylers. He takes a swig of the Listerine before swashing and spitting it out. Then he pours maybe a tablespoon of it onto his right hand, then probably rubs them together as you see him next slapping both sides of his cheeks maybe 5 times in quick succession, quickly rubbing some on the right underside of his chin, then quickly rubbing the back of his right hand with the palm of his left, 3 repetitions. I am almost certain this is the fragrance however the quality was too low to check

I think mine is the reformulation. I got the one from Scent beauty that has the face of Luke Grimes on it. First impression, very powdery and fresh. It’s clean in a rugged sort of way. I get a lot of vanilla and tonka with sage and honey. It becomes more ambery and less powdery as it dries down, bringing more of a masculine ruggedness to it. This is a good fragrance with the summer to fall transition. I don’t get a campfire smell, this is like a sunny day on a prairie. It is bright like the yellow bottle but has a vintage rugged character to it. I can’t imagine how much of a powerhouse the pre formulation was. I’d imagine a cleaned up cowboy wearing this but it also works for a city man wanting a little touch of country in his life.

Stetson recently traded companies to ScentBeauty and I believe they reformulated this fragrance. I have a bottle by Coty to compare, and the Coty version is significantly more powdery with more of the woodsy notes coming through in the dry down. The ScentBeauty fragrance almost smells more "boozy", like a glass of whiskey with a slice of orange. Still very patchouli heavy. Both fragrances have absolutely nuclear performance for an Eau de Cologne, only a few sprays will last at least 8 hours with 2-3 of strong projection. Maybe not classified as a Chypre anymore but still very "old school" or possibly "old man".

All year long, classic 40 year old, all American, middle income, 9-5 hard working, just shaved Dad vibes. Probably drives a truck, coaches little league baseball in spring, barbecues in the summer, watches football in the fall, cuts down his own Christmas tree in the winter.

I remember a college professor wearing this and all the girls asking what he was wearing. I picked up the Stetson Cooling Aftershave as a at home hot weather refresher. I like the opening notes, reminds me of vintage Avon perfumes for women.

Urine. Stale urine. The aftershave splash smells good. The cologne makes me smell like old stale urine mixed with the aftershave splash. Caveat: I don't know whether the bottle I had was from Coty or the newer Scent Beauty version.

My dad gave me this as a gift and its not too bad. It does need maceration for a while. Because when i first had it it smelled a bit like baby oil at the start. But over all a very good pick for a budget fragrance

They definitely added Aldehydes to it at some point. Once those wear off, it's the same old Stetson.

Will not be gaslighted into thinking this doesn’t smell like Shalimar
