A stroll through flower-dappled fragrant forest, holding hands with Le Loyon, fabled spirit that roams them. He pauses at patches of blooms and selects the most redolent to present for your nose. Fantôme de Maules references a Swiss forest-spirit that haunts in harmony with it's timber environs. Spicy and green, the citrus top is suited to cold weather. Lemon zest and crushed cardamom pod spiral in a rolling boil for a warming tonic. Sharp coriander seed cracks in early on, an impish tingle that heats up the greenery and spices, lending complexity to both the resinous labdanum and dry woods. A persistent sweet apparition, restrained by a thin circle of salt, never veers into saccharine. I'm not surprised that Ambroxan found it's way onto the note pyramid here though it is not officially listed by Stora Skuggan--more likely it is tonka producing airy sweetness (here void of it's chocolate or vanilla facets.) The middle of Fantôme is floral spice, more aromatic than culinary as the lavender and vetiver take stage. The finish is a dreamy recollection of the otherworldy walk in the woods: ghostly florals, wispy musk, beautiful cedar and sandalwood faintly carried on a leaf-shimmering breeze.

A rare glacial green. Icy aromatics and crisp citrus twine into alpine forest mist. Hear me out: this is the shadow version of Bath and Body Works’s seminal work “Coconut Lime Verbena.” There’s no coconut, but I still get a sweet, downy accord that hits the same note. It’s here the pepper+coriander prickle the cashmere+white musk just enough to lend the effect of nuzzling deep into the neck of a wooly jumper. The citrus note is still limey enough to pucker. And the lavender subs for verbena, bracingly sharp like a lungful of mountain air. I take back initially passing it off as a monotone, office-safe green. There’s something beautifully harsh about Fantome. Might be a tie with Azalai for my favourite of the house. Mental Snapshot: This is my White Witch scent. You know, the one where Tilda Swinton offers a little British schoolboy Turkish Delight. The snow-laden pines, the duvet-sized arctic fox fur cape, the little silver vial of peacock-green potion. She smells sweet, then strange, then savage. Fantome’s cap even looks like a drop of that conjuring elixir. tl;dr: Frozen, directed by David Fincher ❄️🖤

This is a shy one. It disappears on me, at times, just like Fantome in the story, and turns into a skin scent after the first few hours. Lush winter greenery with a citrusey sparkle, a peppery-cardamomey edge and a cool background calm of cashmeran at first, musky tonka-vetiver-wood later. The occasional flash of pleasantly mild florals is very walk-in-the-forestey and welcome. Fantome de Maules is comforting, balanced and altogether inoffensive. This would absolutely be my go-to office scent if not for the price tag. Edit: I've just had the pleasure of experiencing this fragrance on a hot day. Imagine being so warm that if you had any body of water in your reach, no matter how dirty, you'd gladly hop into it. And miraculously, there's a deep, crystal clear, icy cold lake right there, mist rising above its surface, a forrest brimming with welcoming shadows all around. This is what that lake smells like as it makes contact with your over-heated skin. Cool, refreshing relief. Wonderful oblivion.

contemporary galbanum-forward fragrances are a category of perfume i'm fascinated with, as greens (and galbanum in particular) in many of its forms SCREAM 1960s pillbox hat to me. glorious chypres somewhat stubbornly of their time and hard for me to get past and recontextualize due to my own personal associations (not their fault!). so when i find galbanums or green heavy scents that take me somewhere else, i'm thrilled. maison martin margiela (untitled) comes to mind (and her sister, prada infusion d'iris), chanel n•19 poudre (as opposed to her mother n•19) as does niche xinu monstera. now i can add fantome de maules to this inspired list. full spectrum green, manages to be crisp and dew-soaked all at once. this is the thin beams of light shining through the tree canopy, filtered yet pointed. contrary to what some say, i find the price point for stora totally reasonable, and the performance quite good (hours on skin, days on clothes). it's all subjective i suppose.

A bittersweet veil of lichen & moss-lace envelops your silhouette, trailing translucent just past your bare feet. Your skin is stained by the earthen, herbal sweetness of dirt pathways where fertile roots guide you as they writhe and rise from their steaming, damp depths. Alive and hauntingly present, there is a denseness in the atmosphere, a mist creamy and still. The forest canopy folds its protective nest around you. There are blossoms breathing and rotting, cycles and sounds staying true and close to the ground.

There's a soft, smooth greenness here that I love. As others have said, this fragrance is clean and well-blended such that nothing sticks out, making it hard to figure out. Quiet and comforting. I understand the soap comments, because it has a certain freshness that many soaps also move in the direction of, but it's much better smelling than any soap I can think of, and performs remarkably well for a fresh scent. Expensive for 30mL, yes, but I don't find it unreasonable for the quality.

  • em inglês

a green scent that's not harsh or peppery but soft and shadowy, like moss-covered tree trunks or lichen on stones. I find it magnetic, bewitching. shouts a little on the opening but then calms into a softly herbaceous floral on a bed of wood, musk, and moss. retro, but not "old." nice in cool damp weather. this juice is pretty concentrated; no need to overdo it. a moderate amount lasted all day and (I'm told) wafted into the room with me when I got home after 8 hours.

I think this is my favoured scent from Stora Skuggan. Green fresh and citrus that settles to have a less forward and zesty scent to something more subdued, woody and earthy yet still fresh. I can smell ambroxan, labdanum and sandalwood. Whenever I catch a whiff of it I feel soothed, happy and clean. Its kinda lovely. This may well be next on my purchase list.

  • em inglês

I had a small sample around for a long time before I gathered myself to buy it. I love it. It is really unique and noticeable, yet completely inoffensive. A greenish forest kind of thing. But like no other green forest scent that I know. I put on just one to two sprays. It lasts a really long time. I can still smell it when I wake up the next morning.

This was a love at first at sniff when i sampled a few months ago and now I'm proud to say I finally have a bottle of This green, woody, sweet-creamy fragrance. This house has my complete and undivided attention. A true star in my collection.

this is a lovely mix of greens and florals to me there’s a very comforting smell to this fragrance that cozy cashmere note in it and some of the florals are quite nostalgic to me

  • em inglês

Lavender, gasoline, musky, green, sweet, linen, sugar cube dissolving in tea, dying breath in a meadow full of flowers, your insides spilled over their petals as you bleed out

  • em inglês

Green and softly sweet opening, herbal and spicy drydown. A bit soapy, but not in an unpleasant way, as usually i can't stand soapiness in perfume.

  • em inglês

Pleasant, a fresh green fragrance, kind of sweet ish??

  • em inglês

Tidy, well mannered, prudently expensive, never shouty, unique enough to want to talk about it, to let others hear it, extremely versatile, a victim of nonstop usage for over a year, to the point when I had to take it out of the rotation. The aftertaste of wearing it for so long is acknowledgement of this scent as a very special companion over a period of life, a testament to distinct personality this perfume carries. As I was buying second bottle, I truly thought there will be a third one. Hard to pin down if I was put off by a broader need for a change or that the scent truly grew to annoy me. Indeed both, as I haven’t missed it for a moment. Not a perfume that stood the test of time. It’s lost the aura to excessively mawkish saccharine dry down, which isn’t automatically bad, but in this particular case it’s not a rich powdery, engaging one, rather one that asks for a scruboff or a respray, one way or another. Contrary to the votes here, this is certainly more of a wintertime/autumn scent for me due to the underlying sweetness. This isnt green forest, that is nonsense, but it is a melancholic scent, toned down, designer in approach to the blend, not the category. I may imagine it serving a certain styling accompaniment, whichever way your associations will drive you. I would say it’s a match to soft tailoring, French flair, a play on creative professional aesthetic. The bottle design truly perfectly matches the mood of it.

Fantôme de Maules is a really nice green scent from this consistently impressive perfume brand. It is a bright, fresh green scent that makes great use of galbanum, that hazy, somehow sweet green note that populates vintage classics like Estee Lauder Private Collection or Balmain Vent Vert. There is a lot going on here, but it is a cohesive, nicely-composed modern green scent. FdM opens with sap-like green notes, fresh and dewy, brightened with citrus. Galbanum adds haziness and an inspired lavender note adds a slight fougère quality to the green opening. Some peppery spice follows, muted but adding a nice edge, but the opening is mostly - deliciously - green. As it develops, the greenness subsides and soft florals emerge. It becomes softly woody and musky with some (thankfully restrained) ambroxan in the base that simply serves to enhance the other notes. While it is pleasant and beautifully composed, this phase is admittedly less exciting. It fades to a slightly sweet musky skin scent with some greenness remaining. Sillage and longevity are moderate. A pleasant, unisex springtime scent, FdM is a tale of two halves. The green opening is sublime, but the woody floral phase as it settles is less exciting and slightly more generic, despite still being a lovely, unisex take on florals. Possibly the most wearable scent from Stora Skuggan. 4/5.

Testing blind I got a bit more of a woodsy vibe than green, with a vegetable undertone. My guesses were something like vetiver, bell pepper, black pepper. The wood is comforting and receptive, with only a bit of smoke in there, sitting among a layered aromatic background. It's not trying to be overly spicy or big, and I like it's mix. Looking at the notes, quite the mix it is, and while you could pull out most of the notes, a few like lemon and floral notes, feel distant or not even present. The longevity was good, with the projection feeling moderate. It leans masculine to me. It feels ripe for early fall. While I do appreciate it's rather safe "I'm not a spice bomb" approach I admittedly feel neutral about it as well. The spice sometimes leans too herbal, and the freshness of what comes to me as a sweated down green bell pepper, again, while nice, isn't my thing , but I'd recommend it.

A gorgeous, fresh, masculine and modern take on the chypre, this airy beauty from the very promising new Swedish house Stora Skuggan combines the classic chypre notes of oak moss, labdanum and lavender with many interesting new elements such as Forest flowers and leaves, lemon, musk, amboxan, sandalwood, cedar, cashmeran and a notable coriander. The reference here in the name is to a Swiss myth to a mask wearing forest phantom sometimes seen collecting forest herbs and flowers. Beautifully blended with a moderate to long pleasing projection and sillage this obscure beauty is my second purchase from this house after the equally surprisingly striking Silphium. And it delivers in spades. Utterly unique and haunting this lovely new perfume is waiting for larger discovery. A clean elegant scent that can be easily worn without ruffling any feathers. Enjoy!

  • em inglês

We are not spoiled with Swedish Perfumers, so I became very interested in Stora Skuggan and sent for a test kit. After testing Thumbsucker (which I really dislike!) And Silphium (ok but no hit) this is without a doubt both my and my male partner's favorite so far. I'm surprised I appreciated it so much after reading the notes. I thought it would be much colder and sort of more "introverted", instead it feels elegantly balanced with a warmer and slightly exciting tone at the bottom, which even feels quite sexy (but without being provocative in any way). A scent that really feels unisex but still classic and a little luxurious. I will probably buy a bottle of this Fantôme de Maules.

Smelled this fragrance for the first time at The Scent Room in Dallas, TX. Kind of a harsh opening, but about 20-30 minutes in it kinda goes into a aquatic green, almost like a cool evening watching the sunset with a breeze of fresh lily pads with flowers and the greenest grass, along with the aquatic woody notes. It just all ties in so well together and is a work of art from the perfumer. If it wasn’t for the harsh opening I would rate it a 10/10, brings me back to fishing with my best friend at the town pond. But the opening is sharp so it’s a 8.5/10 in my opinion!

  • em inglês

Had a period of complete fascination with it right after I bought it! For somebody unfamiliar with the details of perfume notes - totally magical. Spicy, yet muted. Warm, but not overpowering. Old-school, but not boring. Now, after years, find myself coming back to it once again. It’s like a hug from a classy old relative. Feel musk, galbanum, a tiny bit of pepper... Not exactly memorable, but still so good. Don’t regret having this in my collection.

  • em inglês

It’s not easy being green. This is a true unisex green fragrance and I am happy for that. I don’t get anything chemically in this fragrance and partially because of that, it will not be a beast mode all dayer. Rather than try to articulate the ratio of notes and how they wear I would just suggest this is not a blind buy. Find the sample set or a stockist and try. I think it’s beautiful and a rare winter green (typically) feminine friendly frag.

  • em inglês

botanical and fresh (without smelling like a teenage boy/girl locker room) opening. i'm thinking of interesting perennials. it's too feminine for me, it's got a sweetness that has been given too much emphasis for me personally, but it's got a natural floral aura after a while which is interesting. 7/10 for me. like when you first stepped into an aesop store and you were hit by these scent combinations that are really alluring.

  • em inglês

Definitely Interesting. On rod: both fresh and savory spices, then sweet green. Definitely has Cedar. On hand: fresh spice and savory cardamon blasts, with slightly raw vegetal notes, possibly galbanum. Then it quickly reveals the sweet green grass notes, followed by a raw aromatic note, maybe it's lavender? A weird sweat hint haunting the whole scent. Dry down is somewhat simple clean vetiver-woody.

  • em inglês

To be completely honest, the only thing i picked up on when it was still wet on my wrist was toilet cleaner. This faded away into a musky/aquatic-ish scent that is way softer than what it was initially. Pleasant and a nice addition to my very small selection of spring perfumes.

  • em inglês

Another interesting frag from this house. The opening is spicy coriander and sharp green. Lemony a bit. But over time it settles into something that makes me think of a strong green tea with milk. Creamy, slightly sweet, powdery wood and almost matcha-like green. I enjoy it.

You're having a picnic with your lover out in a breezy field of tall grass. Your entree: salmon, covered in chunks of crushed lemon pepper. Your dessert: a vanilla latte, followed by a nap under the sun. Fantome de Maules by Stora Skuggan.

  • em inglês

Very fresh with some kind of light dustiness underlying it that makes it feel quite wistful to me. It makes me think of looking through the window into an old garden shed as shafts of morning light cut softly through dusty air.

  • em inglês

Smells like a bar of green soap (not Irish Spring), like getting out of a shower.

  • em inglês

This smell just like the Massimo Dutti store.

This should have been completely my kind of scent (green and aquatic) but the sweetness overwhelms it far too much for me. While the mossy base is immediately noticeable (usually a big plus for me), here it isn’t enough to counterbalance the excess sweetness. I clearly get galbanum; bitter, earthy, intensely green, and interestingly, what feels like an unlisted mastic note. Whenever I experience this sensation, lavender tends to appear somewhere in the background; I know they’re entirely different materials, yet in my mind they’re oddly connected. The house DNA I often describe as leathery&smoky&woody&earthy is present here as well, but in much softer tones. This fragrance leans far more toward a green, watery, salty atmosphere; herbal facets and warm, slightly sweet spices are there, but they remain firmly in the background. I often associate certain scents with dark, wet forests or swamps; this is not one of those. Here, it’s a pond. A bad pond, very very bad pond! Around it grow wild herbs, galbanum, and lavender (probably botanically impossible, but that’s the image in my head). Inside the pond live mischievous water sprites, serpent-tailed seahorses, kappas, and other unsettling aquatic beings. There’s no escaping them. This is not a cheerful, sing-song pond scent. No playful, pastel creatures humming happy tunes here; these poor things would have their noses bitten off the moment they tried to take a sip. As a result, the pond is silent; except for the creatures that belong to it. Tag(s): sweet, green, wet, herbal, salty, evil

  • em inglês

This perfume to me, while unisex, feels incredibly masculine and green / aromatic in a way that really STICKS to your skin. Smells like hugging a really old grandpa that's wearing an old timey fresh spicy perfume that's macerated in his wooden cabinet. Props to Stora Skuggan, I do think this is the most "traditional" and "french-like" fragrance they have (because of the florals) with good longevity. Starts out harsh, spicy and "fresh" but then mellows out into more warmth and a woody feeling. I think the notes of cardamom, cashmere and coriander are rather apparent to me, but I can definitely sense the bergamot and lemon at the top. I can kinda sense lavender after a while, but to my nose it's subtle. Not my kind of fragrance but I get why others enjoy it!

🌫️ Fog on the way home 🌫️ Fantôme de Maules is the perfumery definition of distance. It opens with galbanum and pepper so intense you feel it in your sinuses. A raw, forest gloom where there is no room for sentiment. But the drydown? That’s where the magic happens. The scent suddenly loses its sharp edges and becomes smooth, mossy, and tonka-heavy. It feels as cozy as a wool sweater soaked in evening rain. It starts like a harsh survival test in the woods and ends like coming home after dark, knowing that in a moment you’ll turn the key in the lock and finally be alone. TikTok: @the.scent.files

  • em inglês

to my nose, this is heavy on the lavender and galbanum. it's a soft, powdery herbal scent that, mixed with the cashmeran and spices, reminds me of a baby blanket or childhood toy. it has a warm woodiness that verges on vanillic, and i can distinctly smell the cardamom. it's kind of a foggy scent, creamy and lightly spicy. this is for the first thaw of spring, the period when the winter is just beginning to abate. it's pleasant and comforting but i have yet to find a lavender perfume that i think is wearable. the greenness definitely helps here but it's still not a winner for me

  • em inglês

Very hard to place and elusive. Theres a note that only lasts for less than one minute in the opening and I drove myself crazy trying to place what it reminded me of. There's something oily and almost sunscreen like to the texture. It's very green and lightly floral, but in a curated way, reminiscent of a high end spa. There is so much going on at once, but it is blended so seamlessly that it is hard to pick up on a single thing for too long. There's nothing sharp about it really - it's like a mist that fades very quickly into a woody base so soft its almost not there.

  • em inglês

Nuttiness... My sample smells of soft just shelled hazelnuts or pecan in the shell - diluted, slightly lactonic. So, I get the woodiness inferred by the story of the Phantome but for me this errs on the side of mediocrity with an interesting nuttiness...the cashmeran and a just a touch of cardamom are about the only things on the note table nose to skin that make sense. Gourmand... not for me as it is too... uh... uninteresting... occasionally it could be the smell of some hand cream...

  • em inglês

Fantôme des Maules opens fresh, green, and leafy; quite light and pleasant. Then it gets slightly fuzzy and salty with clean synthetic musks. It reminds me a lot of Grey Flannel, as a fresh grassy masculine with a lightly musky side. In other words: it's a bit boring. But nice. Has a low-key, deft charm, would work well in an office. On the other hand, Grey Flannel is vastly cheaper and basically the same thing.

  • em inglês

Green but surprisingly simple. I was hoping to get more richness from this but I mostly get green cardamom and lemon. It's nice. I can see this one being maybe not a crowd pleaser, but safe and inoffensive. You could wear this to work or in crowded areas quite easily. I like this, not enough to buy a bottle. Ultimately it smells like nicely scented handsoap.

  • em inglês

Interesting spicy start with recognizable lavender and coriander, something bit sweet underneath but it is gone till you decipher it - really weak longevity and after hour or so you get "just" expensive soap reminder - that could be enough for some but the story behind is completely gone. More blueish/violet to brown than green.

  • em inglês

As a vetiver lover, I had great hopes for that one. But at the end of the day, it resulted being a nice but not groundbreaking green fragrance without a real identity. Overpriced for what it does. UL Apsu and CDG Amazingreen both do the same thing, with better performance, for half the price/ml.

  • em inglês

Smells like a forest... but clean. Like if someone came through and gave everything a good mopping and scrubbing. The moss has been fluffed and the branches have been arranged.

  • em inglês

I don't actively dislike it but I also find it hard to like. Smells like an old cabinet with a lot of long forgotten stuff in it and it's not a compliment.

  • em inglês

First, I tried this on paper. For background, my favorite scent of all time is Stora Skuggan's Moonmilk, so I've had high hopes for other creations from this house. On first spray, this smells like traditional, masculine cologne, green and aquatic. It's unique, like nothing else I have in my collection. In the drydown, it smelled soapier on paper. Then, I tried it on my skin. It smells like citrus cleaning product. Then I had the thought it feels like a 'safe' fragrance, like what your most boring coworker wears. On my skin, it bored me to death. I got a little sweetness, but that sweetness felt synthetic, like stevia instead of sugar. Then it grows more powdery. Then it softens ever so slightly. When things are 'office-friendly' that tends to tell me I'm not going to like them, that they're too simple, too crowd-pleasing, too clean and subtle for my taste. I appreciate a fragrance that takes you on a journey as the notes evolve and interact, and Stora Skuggan seems to excel in these types of fragrances. It's just that this one does so in a way that falls flat for me.

  • em inglês

a blast of coriander. I was expecting something very mysterious and green. I find it quite spicy and almost oriental. I don't get any green whatsoever. But still very interesting although not for me. I am just a bit surprised about the price, I would get it for the stunning bottle which is a piece of art though!

  • em inglês

I received this as a gift. I was a little worried as my skin tends to make fragrances smell overly green, so I try to stay away from green top notes, but I really wanted to like this. My partner tried it on, and on him it smelled pleasantly of soap. Next my friend tried it, and on her it smelled lovely, like amber and forest moss. Then I gave it a try. It first smelled like crushed ailanthus leaves, which then turned into the sour-paper smell of an old library book, and finally became cheap cinnamon potpourri. This scent is beautiful on some people, but not on me. I do give it five stars for the great packaging.

  • em inglês

Despite the whole bunch of notes listed, this is an extremely simplistic(i.e. boring) perfume. It opens green and spicy, then become sort of herbal, then settles to clean musk. Extremely weak in both longevity and projection. £120 for 30ml = £400 for 100ml(!!!!) I guarantee you, you can do better at any given shopping mall/perfume shop. Any! It blows my mind how many of these rubbish perfume brands take their customers for sheer sheep.

  • em inglês

Smells exactly like Dettol cleaning product. Vinegar and artificial lemon encased in squeaky plastic. Horrible

Way overpriced. It's very basic and I don't f*ck with it that much. Not worth the price, not worth buying.

Ghost roads converging on a cemetery, whispers of a green-cloaked figure vanishing into mist. Fantôme de Maules unfurls like a secret, a sylvan, spectral musk, dark green dusk gleaming through branches, hovering just above the skin. The green here isn't lush or vibrant, but austere – twilight filtering through pine needles. There's a whisper of lavender, more herbal than floral, and a hint of dry, shadowy spice – prickly subterranean murmurs from some hidden place. I catch wisps of mossy flowers through the mist, their fragrance elusive and fleeting, obscured by that omnipresent veil of cool, verdant fog. It's beautiful, in a melancholy way, like stumbling upon abandoned ruins in a forgotten glade. The scent carries a weight of isolation, of time stretching endlessly through silent forests, the grass and loam of secret paths trodden by solitary feet. The bittersweet ache of chosen seclusion, of a world deliberately left behind. The gossamer soapy-powdery aspect feels like a fading remnant of civilization, washed away by years of woodland solitude. It's a fragrance whose presence is defined by absence, a mystery I'm not sure I want to unravel – what's missing, or why it matters.

Green galbanum into luminous fuzzy piney woody musky When I first saw the Storra Skuggan bottle design I was briefly concerned we were about to get the second coming of Nasomatto‘s amberwood heavy edgy barebones style of perfumery I never particularly cared for. Thankfully most of this line up is much more nuanced than that, even if slightly heavy on the fixatives at times. Fantome is one of my favorites from the line up, mainly due to its complexity in the opening. It’s essentially that blisteringly sharp and bitter green galbanum note slowly fading into a tightly woven mesh of unusually bright transparent woody notes, somewhere between eucalyptus and warm balsamic pine notes, cedar and laudanum. The dry down loses some interest though, turning more musky fuzzy and cashmeran like over the hours. Nonetheless an interesting tale on a green woody fragrance, which (at least initially) dares to stay away from the cliches.
