Pine

For my nose, which doesn't often do well with Stora Skuggans: a very fine pine indeed. Stark and minimalist - no red fruits a la Fille en Aiguilles, not much truffly forest floor or incense a la Norne, and despite a fair dose of sweetness, none of the caramelised syrup of Olympic Orchids Woodcut. Because I'm less sophisticated than many reviewers below, the synthetic fixatives don't ruin it for me - it's just reallly piney for a reallly long time. So straightforward and basic it's arguably Not A Perfume At All, just pure pine essence - so it depends if that's a problem for you. For me absolutely not - a great smell that sticks and lasts, even if you may feel it's just a big old chunk of resin or a slosh of some more rugged product than a very highly-priced niche perfume. I quibble the cost but can't argue with its chunky, no-frills charisma. A big dumb Viking that knows how to get the job done - despite the fact that its initial muscle soon softens, it's durable for days on fabric and the drydown is mellower and less crashy than the start, at least on me.

My journey to find the perfect pine fragrance has led to many recommending this beauty, and I can see why. This is a gorgeous perfume, with one note only, yet holds so much depth and so many avenues to explore. The pine itself is obviously very green and woody, with soft earthy facets as you might expect. But it’s also slightly sweet, yet sharp and metallic, a little sour, blanketed by a gentle spiciness. As mentioned, there’s a lot going on; don’t mistake the simple note breakdown with a simple smell. I really enjoy this actually. When I first applied it I wasn’t so sure, but now it’s settled, I think I love it. I will keep my eye out for a bottle but, for now, my all time favourite pine fragrance remains as Caron’s Yatagan.

This woody fragrance is much deeper and heavier than I expected. Since only the 'pine' note was officially disclosed, I was intrigued even before smelling it. While people usually think of the refreshing scent of pine needles, this perfume feels like it captures the very trunk and roots of the pine tree, along with the surrounding soil and stones. Aside from the pine, the woody and earthy qualities of patchouli, cypriol, and resins come through in a way that isn't artificial at all—it smells incredibly realistic. I think it’s perfect for autumn and winter. The longevity and sillage are also above average, leaving me highly satisfied

Fresh mountain dirt, warm sunshine on crunchy bark, dry dusty pine pollen floating in the air on a crisp blue day. Like pressing your nose into the dry floor of a pine forest. Opens very bright and sharp like snapping fresh pine needles, but this is not a green scent, it's definitely brown. It quickly settles into a much earthier, mulchier, dirty base. You'll smell like you were just on a long warm hike in the Alps. If you want a sharper, green, true pine needle scent I'd suggest Cathedral Grove by Bathing Culture or Chronic by 19-69.

warm, summery scent. masculine, but definitely on the sweet side, like hot pine sap. the "pine pine pine pine pine pine" on the list of ingredients seems like more of a typical swedish hipster joke than to accurately describe it, because there's definitely other notes here. on the verge of being a little commercial, but just weird enough not to be. could easily be worn by women too. this is yet another perfume trying to mimic pine, but it's not a full hit. i'd still say this is a 8/10 mens scent. i want something weirder.

Tried on this scent and although intriguing, I wasn't fully convinced the first 2-3 hours of wearing it. It started out very damp, soil-y, forest floor. It developed into a more rich blend of pine, and grew stronger the more I wore it (≈12 hours). Reminded me of entering a cabin with pine flooring, kitchen cabinets and walls, and taking it all in. Very nostalgic scent - would buy.

I'll propose something new: This is a woman's fragrance to be worn in summer. The pine has a sweetness and wholeness that I read as feminine. It's for an adventurous, mold-breaking woman who enjoys nature. Summer fits because the pine needles are in their full green glory in the dense humid air. Of course a man can pull this off too, but it's more exciting on a woman.

This fragrance completely blew me away. Out of dozens I sampled at a boutique in Chicago, this one stood out instantly. While pine is the only note listed, it’s incredibly complex. The sillage and longevity are outstanding, and I’ve gotten compliments every time I’ve worn it. Definitely one of my new favorites!

This is the perfume that got me into fragrance as a hobby. I adore this scent, it’s crispy, almost citrusy, and at the same time deep and woody. Looking at it you would imagine that it’s not very interesting since it’s just one note, but that one note is so complex and comforting I can’t get enough.

This reminds me of sitting in the yard my great-aunt's cabin home on a hot day, just outside the tree line of a pine forest. Somehow it replicates exactly both the sappy trees themselves and the parched bed of needles that cover the ground. Very nostalgic.

Don't expect fresh crispy mountain air with pine. This pine is a dark gloomy sweet medicinal pine in my opinion. As if it had been laying in a hut for some time, stored for medicinal use. Overall I like it! It reminds me of Mistpouffer, but more wearable.

Captivating. Pine with no variance sounds dull but I’m not even joking the meander this scent takes from initial spray to dry down to wear is transformative. Mysterious & heady, I’m debating a full size but the price point has me wavering.

This was the first scent I tried from the brand, and I fell in love immediately. It has that warm, spicy feel that’s just perfect for fall and winter. I can’t wait to buy a full bottle!

A simple pine tree wearable in all its layered complexity. Crispy-clean and sappy-sticky and cone-tangy and woody-sharp. One satisfying, full-bottle-worthy forest wank.

As soon as I saw it, I needed it. Received it today and put it on at work. Man I was like a walking Wunder-Baum, brightening everyone's day.

What's not to love? I love smelling like a tree going out. Reminds me of a childhood spent playing in the woods.

Sometimes I feel like if I don't have anything profound or inspiring to say about a fragrance that I should just not say anything at all. But I find that if I am to be taken seriously as a perfume reviewer or fragrance reviewer, I should be able to eloquently describe a fragrance I am not particularly excited about. So I am going to give it a try here! Now, there is absolutely nothing wrong with Pine from Stora Skuggan. I am wearing it right now and have been for move to Ambers paragraph the past few hours. Yes it is a hyperrealistic pine tree which I find very nice. That is the only note available. Top, middle and bottom. It becomes a little bit boring to me. For lack of a better word. Perhaps redundant? I understand the concept. That's why I'm not mad at this fragrance. It is nice to have a realistic pine tree fragrance available, especially during the holiday season. And it does last a long time and it's a very high quality composition. I appreciate all of that. The fragrance brand as a whole is also outstanding. I forgot to mention above that I have tried this on before and I knew what I was going to get. My reaction today is the same reaction I received back about a year ago. At least I'm consistent! Lol. I'm a little bit disappointed because I thought perhaps I was in the wrong frame of mind when I tried it the first time. Like I said, it's a good fragrance and there's nothing I can really complain about. But it is boring. It does not shift or change throughout the day. The first spray is exactly the same as the next spray as the next spray. This could be great for someone else who is looking for consistency and something extremely natural. Unisex for sure because I don't know how a pine tree could have masculine or feminine only characteristics. Overall, it would be nice to have in my collection as a reference. Because I am a reviewer, I think it's important that I have that. If you are a casual collector, I don't think it's as important. If you are not a fan of pine tree or forest smells, I would skip right over this one and go to the many other fantastic fragrances in their collection. I also want to mention the packaging and bottle design. Absolutely Beautiful. Breathtaking color. Expert design. It was the very reason why I wanted to try the fragrance instantly. And just as an FYI, yes there is only pine tree in this fragrancing breakdown, but there are still complexities in that one note. I am simply saying I get tired of that one note even though it is still complex.

This sure is pine! My entire family loves this perfume - parents, siblings, the dog too, I assume. It's great! As other people have said there is a little bit more to it than *just* pine, but I too am a person with the sense of humor of a Swedish hipster, so I appreciate the description nonetheless. Besides, the other tones are great -- something mildly smoky, and after a day of wear I get some fir notes. Sounds like a small difference from pine, and it is, but I guess to me this is more in line with "Swedish forest" as a whole concept. Incredibly pleasant! Somewhere in there I'm pretty sure there's something that smells like one of my dad's perfumes when I wear it, but I am suspecting that won't be the case for anyone else. Unless you know my dad, I guess. If so, hi! However, this does mean that I find it to lean masculine, which is more likely to bother some people. Will I buy a full bottle? Maybe! If nothing else I will greatly enjoy using up the sample I have.

Yeah, it is Pine - but probably not what you expect. It’s not pine needles, it’s more like pine forest, late fall/early winter. A bit of pine needles, a touch of eucalyptus. Lots, lots of patchouli, moss, some labdanum. Salty ambroxan in the base (you can feel it a lot after an hour), a touch like, a powdery matcha? In the opening it reminds me A F.in LOT of Viride. When you think of pine, you get what they mean - needles, wood, lots of sap, stale bark, damp, mossy soil, maybe even a touch of mushrooms/mold - a damp, early winter forest floor. I don’t get the sugary tones a lot of people mention here. It is strong, but more like in the character - it’s lasting and dense, not airy, but it doesn’t push in projection. More like, stays close to skin, but leaves a trail when you move. I’m not sure about it, didn’t expect it that damp forest floor-y, didn’t expect a salty ambroxan base, it was a blind buy.

Does exactly what it sets out to do. More of an autopsy of a pine than a solifleur really. Pine balanced with other parts of the pine. And competently so at that. You get the spicy resin, the milky dry wood, the sharp needles. The unfortunate part is how common of an ingredient pine is in traditional mens perfumery. If you surround yourself with a lot of women, chances are it will remind them of a man they'd rather forget and if youre close enough, you WILL hear about it. This *projects*, I wore it for a day and I've never gotten so many comments. The most harrowing one was "are you wearing something new? You smell like our landlord". I like this perfume, it smells like sticky tree resin on your fingers and cut up logs, but im not sure I like it enough to carry the baggage of seemingly everyones ex that comes along with it. It would be subversive if I was a little more fem presenting but I'm not.

Finally got around to trying this one out and to my surprise, it actually smells rather sweet. I genuinely wouldn’t have thought it smelled like pine if I didn’t know the name and the notes, but there’s also a tangy and oddly pungent metallic/“fishy” and soil-like scent in the background (which, oddly, was the first thing I smelled upon trying this out, but do not let this deter you from smelling it). Although the bottle is green the fragrance in it smells really red and yellow to me. Thankfully, the fishy soil-like scent disappears really fast when it dries and it quickly becomes a pleasant slightly sweet tree-like smell :) I think I would use this

I wasn’t expecting such an interesting experience unfold with this fragrance. First it was bracingly pine-y. Like strong dry pine wood. Then after a bit it began to become more sap-like and soft. It evolves into a lovely candied pine which still has a lot of the natural pine scent to it. I’m not a fan of sweet scents. But this one captures and heightens the natural sweetness of pine sap. Beneath all of this balsamic, sweet, and woody notes there’s a more ravaged and primeval base. It’s a bit of animatic and petrichor ambroxan. The way it balances the sweetness, the pine, and the deep rugged base is quite lovely.

It's interesting. I was looking for bright green needles, but I'm getting more sap, bark and dirt. I was really kind of put off by it when I first applied, the opening is a medicinal sort of blast, but the sweeter, sappier drydown is kind of drawing me in. It reminds me a lot of being a kid playing in the woods and getting sticky pine resin on my hands (so hard to remove). I'm not getting the fresh pine boughs I was imagining but it's like wrapping your arms around the trunk and inhaling, which is cool in its own way.

Yep, that's definitely pine! I honestly don't know what more can be said to describe it, because it really is just a pine tree in a bottle. It starts off straight pine resin, and becomes more woody on the dry down, and matures into a balanced, complete pine experience. It takes me straight back to hiking in the Rocky Mountains as a kid. If you like pine (which I do) you'll like this this, and since it's a single note fragrance, I can see it being a good choice for layering.

Not necessarily photorealistic for my nose, although I don't spend a lot of time around pine trees so who knows. There's a wet, cold, minty quality to the scent that is clear for the first couple of hours. As it warms and dries it smells great on my clothes. It doesn't stick around as long as I'd like and I'm not sure I would buy the full size, but I do really like it. This is more masculine than I usually wear, but I don't feel uncomfortable or like I'm too musky.

To me this isn't as pine heavy as all the notes and people have been saying. I still do get pine but its more of a forest with everything in it. You can smell the dirt and sap. I would say pine is just one of the notes. It was a blind buy for me and I wouldn't say it disappointed me but it wasn't what I expected.

Sweetly medicinal and sappy. I think it would make for a wonderful layering perfume. Edit: I'm wearing this layered with Heretic's Nosferatu. Makes it smell like a bright forest in the rain. Projection and longevity are great!! Pairs well with: for the twin - Daisuke Tanabe

Pine is just the most satisfying, multi-dimensional, depiction of pine there ever was. Sap, needles, bark, crisp air and sprawling forest. Pine zoomed in, pine zoomed out, pine from above, pine from below. Pine turned into a sugary snack! Pine from every angle!!

Deep earthy notes, complemented by the sweetest qualities of the pinetree. Candied pine shoots and the filth of its roots. Wonderful.

It’s like if you sugared pine needles? Not vanilla but almost caramel. But pine definitely pine. That’s pine.

Defo pine in this This is like pine drowning in thick syrupy resin The syrup resin smell surrounds the entire smell of pine I wouldn’t say medicinal as those smells to me aren’t as grand as this. This is more obnoxious than that. It smells harsher than medicine but still clean almost open your sinus type of smell. It’s like if someone got a whole pine tree (not the main truck just twigs as not much woodiness from this) and cold pressed the entire thing and dehydrated the liquid that came out, making it super concentrated. It smells kinda like if bitter dressed up as sweet, like your brain knows if you are to eat anything that smells like this it would be bitter but it gives off sweet facade. It has moments where the line shines thru but they’re infrequent. The perfumes personality is like an evil aunt, or a very old evil woman (maybe like Cruella de Vil from 101 Dalmatians). The projection is great fights thru the crowds, all day and I only sprayed it once on one wrist. The sillage I can’t comment on but longevity is hugeeee. I showered and it still very strong smelling on my arm (this is not always a good thing). It’s a winter day scent for sure. Maybe a winter club scent if you’re pushing it for night but wouldn’t be ideal for a date for example. Could wear it if you want to piss someone off for sure. Do I like it or do I like the bottle and the fact it’s a finalist for the olfactory awards this year, I don’t know. I think it’s nice for a collector and as a talking point but probs not much else if we’re being honest.

This perfume is very interesting in that it's a soliflore (single-note) scent but holds so much nuance. At first spray, it's sweet pine sap, fresh needles and bare pine wood—sweet, resinous, woodsy and coniferous. Honestly, my first thought was that it smelled like BR540 with a pine note because of the unexpected sweetness. It wasn't cloying by any means but definitely saccharine. Over the next two hours, it became woodsier and more resinous. However, by the third hour, it became verrry aromatic—almost unbearably so. It was like a combination of vetiver and jasmine, just very sharp and a bit grassy and powdery. Still evergreen but not as fresh and sweet as the opening and more aromatic instead. Any remaining sweetness of the sap faded over the following hour, after which this just became entirely aromatic or 'perfume-y'. It remained this way for the remainder of the wear, which was quite substantial—lasting over ten hours on my skin. Overall, this is a very intriguing scent but definitely not blind buy safe (I know, nothing really is but you get my point). I'm glad I got to sample and experience this but it's just not for me.

Pine is the forest in its entirety – bark, sap, needles, soil – distilled to a drop. The overall effect is a dry green spice with a dense, resinous sweetness. It’s crystallised sap first, crushed greens second. Here that vein of sugar-encrusted pine in Mistpouffer gets its soloist performance. Pine is more nuanced than the notes/name lead me to believe, and Stora Skuggan really kills it with these boreal scents, but I feel like that scene where Michael Bluth opens up a paper bag that says “dead dove do not eat” and then goes “I don’t know what I expected.” Fortunately, no eau de dead dove here, but it’s just that: pine. Mental Snapshot: This is what you’d smell like after embracing an Ent. When it comes to the Stora Skuggan forest quartet I think of it this way – if you fancy Treebeard: Pine. If you fancy a dryad: Mistpouffer. If you fancy the Green Knight: Fantome de Maules. If you fancy the Whomping Willow: Hexensalbe. tl;dr: pine 🌲🌲

Imagine my surprise to think this was some mix of dark fruit, woodsy earth, and a hint of tobacco, never mind the right in front of my nose spice of pine, but that's what I got testing blind. Not, some obvious pine note. It has a lot more depth and character than pine. More like pine with some dark fruit. Sappy! That's it. This is a sappy, sticks to your fingers, make some mulled wine, late, leather, air of tobacco, kind of pine. Maybe it leans masculine, but I don't see it, and it leans towards late evening moreso then, "hey, let's go hiking". An interesting fragrance that has a lot more going on than it's notes, or note, suggests.

Take the pine+white sugar combo from Mistpouffer and intensify it 20x. Smells better outdoors than indoors. I believe there is also artemisia or a plant of similar aromatic quality. Maybe also eucalyptus? Sweet, dense, oily, slightly mentholated and bitter, with the smell of damp earth from melted snow, sticks and dead leaves that have been buried in that snow for some time. Not 100% pine. More of a candle smell than a perfume.

Really lovely pine at first, but unfortunately this becomes a very traditional cologne. A bit soily, very "perfumey". It's a nice scent, but when people smell this on you out in the world, they're not going to know it's a beautiful Stora Skuggen fragrance in a frosted green bottle. They're going to think you're wearing Axe body spray. That being said, it projects very well and lasts 6-8 hours - great performance.

I just got this in a sample size. The opening was extremely polarizing; beautiful earthy pine scent, but it was also accompanied by a bad medicine scent, as if my nose snorted mud. However, in about 20 minutes that sickening smell disappeared and now it's the palatable earthy pine. Lasts for hours. Undecided if I should buy the full bottle. We'll see.

If you’re like me and love the sight of snowy pine trees on both sides of the road, where every drive feels like a magical fairytale, then you’ll adore this perfume. It instantly brings those peaceful, wintry scenes to mind—like being wrapped in the beauty of a snow-covered forest. And it does so intensely!

First spray pre drydown was a wonderful warm, sweet and boozy pine that somehow manages to be interesting even though it’s just one note. However an hour in this has developed a smell I can only describe as pissy. Which is a huge bummer, otherwise this would have been full bottle worthy for me!

This is just straight up patchouli to my nose. Nice and earthy, a bit chocolate-y, a good kind of patchouli, but no pine at all... i’m perplexed!

Not sure how some people manage to write a long review on this one. As expected by the notes, it smells like fresh pine.

Pine soliflore, not for the faint of heart. Need to really love a camphorous pine note. Earthy and skunky too.

There is not only pine. It’s more like warm jaggermeister. Slightly sweet, aromatic, forest fragrance.

Immediately upon application my heart sank because I could just detect right away that this one does not end well. For it's first few minutes, there is the straightforward sensation of pine needles, wood, and some of the sweeter qualities of sap. I could tell, however, that the fixatives used here were going to 'yuck my yum' over time. I smell Cashmeran, which I do have a soft spot for, and does work well in extending the sensation of conifers over the base, but I also smell Ambrofix/Ambroxan/Grisalva, something or things from that family of dry, ambergris-like materials, and they quickly dominate here. The problem with the usage of these materials, and a ton of Evernyl, is that it chokes nuance that would otherwise find room to breathe. The result is something that up front feels convincing and attractive, that quickly collapses on its base, feeling oddly sour and moldy even, until its just a migraine-inducing fixative fest. This is truly a disappointment. I agree with other reviewers that pine/conifer is much better conveyed through Fille en Aiguilles, Arso, Hwyl, L'Eau Trois, Bowmakers, to name a few.

This is certainly not just pine. Simply because “pine” appears in every note doesn’t mean the result is a soli-pine fragrance. There’s quite a lot going on beneath the surface. For instance, the opening is unnecessarily sweet. In the base, I pick up ambery warmth and discernible spices, along with something subtly leathery or labdanum-like lurking underneath. There are also minty elements woven into the composition. Pine trees themselves vary greatly by region; there are countless varieties, each with its own character. To me, this is far from a photorealistic pine. I’ve spent plenty of time walking through pine forests, I’m familiar with different species (most with needle-like leaves), and as a child I even used those needles to braid little pine-tree shapes. I know how pinecones smell as well; and this doesn’t align with that experience at all. If anything, it resembles a pine-flavored candy rather than an actual pine forest. This was my least favorite scent in the set. Not bad by any means, but ultimately a solid meh. Tag(s): pine-candy (if-exists), warm, spicy, minty

Personally, very disappointment. With such marketing I expected the whole tree. What I got was 5 seconds of pine needles, followed by 4 hours of very sweet and sour resin. I tried to wear it throughout a day thrice, and all 3 times I was appalled by the smell on my skin. When I asked some people what they thought they could never identify the smell as a pine tree, they said it just smells like a regular strong masculine fragrance. Maybe it is just a case of my skin not agreeing with the fragrance, but to me it just proves that Stora Skuggan's fragrances are never a blind buy. I love that for others it works, for me I get nothing but acidity in the smell.

Tried it yesterday. Instead of fresh crisp resinous pine, I get ‘molten asphalt on a sunny day’ pine. The drydown is beautiful and sweet, but unfortunately I can’t stand the screechy pasticky opening that seems to be the commonality with most of their fragrances. I grew up around conifer forests and bilberry fields, this is nothing like the resins dripping down the bark of a real tree, the needles crunching under your hiking boots, the freshly chopped pine firewood, or the slices of resinous pine fatwood my father used to put on top of the fireplace to make the whole house smell wonderful in the wintertime.

This was an artificial, slightly sweet Christmas Tree® scent evocative of just that: a pine-scented Something in the holiday aisle, and not an actual pine tree. Or any of it's components. The longevity and projection were also a letdown. It became a skin scent after 2h and is barely noticeable after 4h. I had high hopes about this sample based on reviews and info about the company. Assuming it wasn't a bad batch, I couldn't imagine paying nearly $200 for 30 ml of this. The variance between my experience and other reviewers makes me wonder if it was a fluke.
