Chokedee (โชคดี)

SUPER floral-heavy in the opening, then dries down to smell like a flower milk bath. Very different. It's a little elegant but also kind of raw - like roughly cut white flowers, the green bitterness of the stems and all; it's not grassy but it reminds me of the smell of freshly cut grass (that bitter vegetal smell). Cloudy starchy rice pudding sweetened with raw cane sugar, tamed with the lactonic note of coconut milk. It's youthful, fresh, vibrant, a touch offensive for a white floral, just enough to replace the offensiveness with intrigue. I'm picky with my florals but this one I would wear. It has a lot of mystery. Post-edit: Purchased a full bottle. This fragrance is wearable art. Masterpiece.

this is such a beautiful rice pudding adjacent fragrance but not in a way that’s overtly foody. It opens floral forward with sweet jasmine and tropical fragipani. As this develops the vanilla and pandan pick up and it’s a green and earthy sweetness. The coconut and rice notes blend to make that rice pudding like aroma and with an added sandalwood it’s creamy, smooth, and sweetly powdery. The dry down is more woody forward with a sweet cashew note and a dry blend of cedar and vetiver. The green and airy floral sweetness still permeates into the dry down, it’s a beautifully woody, sweet, milky and earthy gourmand with notes of florals. Love this one a ton!

I didn't notice the sticky rice when I was using the sample, but after I bought the full bottle I notice it every time. I initially purchased because of the gorgeous tropical florals! So beautiful and bright, yet also very creamy. There's coconut running through them and now the lightly sweet, nutty sticky rice as well. But those flowers, wow. They are a delight. An instant mood lifter for me. Sillage is pretty good and I wouldn't wear more than two sprays of this or you'll be choking on it. Dries down to a comforting vanilla-coconut hug with a hint of green banana. This will probably become my signature scent.

I am seriously wondering if people who hate this fragrance and used all kind of wacky descriptors to review it got their samples mixed up. Leather boot? Ashtray??? What the hell... Dear Polly and Nightclubbing are ashtrays, not this. How dare you! Despite it not being an ashtray (I am a big fan of ashtrays), I adore this. Chokadee is sweet and creamy, lightly dusty, and delightfully floral. Rice is there, coconut is there, frangipani as well, and it all smells fantastic together! This lovely fragrance was such a nice discovery. Unfortunately, I only had a tiny dabber with like 0.1 ml in it. I already miss it.

On my big rice note quest, I came across Chokedee. It's everything I wanted from Moonlight in Heaven by Killian, which was a little too impressionistic, soapy, and less photorealistic. This smells like a heaping platter of mango sticky rice with banana fritters eaten in a garden of blooming yellow florals. There's also a bit of Banana Boat in here, but the artificiality doesn't faze me at all. It's so cheerful for a gloomy fall day and has become a perfect turtleneck perfume for me. Move over, unassuming amber/warm vanilla sugar-type scents. Chokedee is perfect!

SO FUCKING GOOD. I cannot understate enough how much this smells like a sweet creamy south east asian dessert. It reminds me of hot humid evenings eating mango sticky rice and pandan jelly with family. Despite it starting quite floral (that delicious tropical frangipani note) the sticky rice really stands out and just feels like a warm hug from home

According to Luckyscent, this is Prim Lomros's take on sweet sticky rice. You do indeed get rice and nuts up front, mixed with coconut and white florals. After about half an hour, the primary notes I'm getting are coconut and jasmine. At that point it smells rather like a beach scent to me. I think it's beautiful and interesting.

YES!!! What is this wizardry?? Perfect creamy tropical sticky rice dessert. Not what I thought I wanted to smell like, but here we are. I can see this working in any season, honestly. Comforting and uplifting in the cold, tropical and blooming in the heat. Makes me sooo happy to smell this!!

love this. A sweet creamy cozy warm jasmine floral somewhat beachy/tropical fragrance. I bought a bottle. As someone who cooks rice and sticky rice almost every other day, I can say it doesn't smell too much like rice. Maybe faintly in the background, but you have to search for it.

Oh, this is GOOD. It's a super realistic scent of rice pudding. I get notes of pandan and banana, which I usually stray away from but it brings a lot of warmth to the perfume. Immediately adding it to the "perfumes I want" list.

So beautiful and interesting. I get the sweet rice, coconut, floral right away. Like nothing I’ve ever smelled in a good way. I purchased a full bottle after a sample. Creamy, fruity, tropical...

Big fan, summer in a bottle. Mango and sticky rice, coconut milk and some dryness of the vetiver to balance it out. This isn't a true gourmand to me as the freshness keeps it so bright and airy.

Toasted rice coconut and at first spray banana. I get hay on the dry down. It has a strong floral component but the rice softens what can some times be harsh on me. It’s so unique and beautiful

Incredibly photorealistic pandan smell. Insane. At first spray, strong, strong pandan leaf smell. I saw someone comment it smells like violet, and I kind of get that - the pandan leaf does sometimes give off a bit of a violet petal vibe. The pandan leaf smell doesn't persist for very long. Later on, you get more coconut rice (gives a bit of salted-coconut-rice dessert vibes), and as someone who lives in Southeast Asia, this is accurate. I don't get tea or jasmine or cashew. Projection: Strong Longevity: Average to good

Got a 1ml sample of this one. This one is super unique; I was not expecting it to smell how it does. From the top its VERY nutty, like in an uncooked or maybe toasted rice kind of way. It's a little sweet and a little floral with some coconut, but it is very predominantly nutty. I don't really know how else to describe it. Not for me but a really interesting and pretty fun scent. Haven't smelled anything like this one before.

Sweet sticky rice desert. Gosh. It’s just like Prin intended - sweet sticky rice. Legend! Beautiful - photorealistic and wearable. Not a huge stinker but that’s alright. Prins done it again. If you like gourmand like this it’s a safe blind buy. Edit: Whilst not super strong as a balloon it managed to perform 18 hours overnight and even after a shower. Prin = respect

I agree that the perfume has a gorgeous tropical flower, but the sticky rice and bread note is not for me. I keep noticing not the rice, but rather the popcorn or bread. It's cozy, interesting, very unique but I do not enjoy the scent that smell like a poke bowl. To others, it may be likeable, but to me it's just ok and not very versatile!

my lactonic dream!! smells so yummy and gourmand but at the same time not too realistic- has a hint of white musk and woody notes that balance the scent so it's not cloying or overpoweringly "edible". the powdery vibes are fun too- the perfect combo between a youthful dessert-ey escapade and an exotic, spiced moment. obsessed.

The initial notes remind of me of banana, which was enough for me to consider buying a full bottle. It reminds of me warm coconut rice, the perfect balance of sweet and salty. Thankfully I tested it out over a few days and while this scent is gorgeous and delicious, it dries down a little too powdery for my own preferences.

The initial scent is like you’re having coconut sticky rice and toasted barley tea at a spa in Southeast Asia. The dry down is a little spicy and heavy (on my skin, which tends to do this), and I don’t like it as much when that happens. This would probably smell divine on someone with an earthier natural body scent.

I’m definitely not a morning person. And I won’t pretend that wearing it suddenly turned me into one. When I put it on it feels like the scent is trying to yank me straight into midday before I’ve had a chance to catch up. This is a bright, exuberant burst of a fragrance. It smells like the thick, humid heat of a late afternoon under the glare of a hot summer sun. It has a smell to it that is starchy less like rice and more like a banana. I know there's no banana listed in the notes but this is perfectly ripe, and ripped open. It's that first burst of sweet-green from a banana. There's also a creamy undercurrent of coconut milk and sticky rice pudding. Perhaps mango sticky rice, nice and hot. Just writing this is making me want to go to my local Thai restaurant and buy some. Chokedee is balanced and sweet and avoids veering into cloying pastry territory. It is photorealistic and almost edible, but still wearable, subtle, and surprisingly unisex. But for a scent so full of character in the opening, it fades disappointingly fast. It's so ephemeral, I just hope that people could smell it when I couldn't. The speed in which this fades away is baffling. It disappears in about 3 minutes, even on clothes. For that reason I can't rate this any higher nor strongly recommend unless you're fine with expensive and frequent reapplications.

Strangers Parfumerie Chokedee is a powdery white floral mix, mainly, with some sweet hints, consisting of jasmine, frangipani, musk, coconut, neroli, cashew, and sandalwood. Not my typical cup of tea but interesting nonetheless, I could see this doing pretty well with fans of white florals. It remains fairly sharp even in its dry down, though, so one really needs to enjoy the florals in order to enjoy this, I’d say. For me, by far the most interesting aspect is the nutty quality inspired by the sticky rice dish on which the perfume is based. Chokedee has EDP concentration and is sold via Luckyscent for the brand’s standard pricing of $80 for 30ml. 6 out of 10

I hoped this would scratch the same itch as the very pricey moonlight in heaven but it doesn’t. There’s little to balance the admittedly luscious coconut white floral bread-y base. It feels like it’s missing something sharp. The pandan is not too prominent. The grapefruit and pink pepper in moonlight in heaven makes it feel more radiant than chokedee, and the rice note doesn’t veer into bread territory like it does here. Still, the banana illusion produced by the treatment of jasmine(?) is very cool. Unique and creative gourmand.

An exotic and definite Thai themed scent. I like the opening- the creamy nuttiness, the fragrant jasmine rice steamed with pandan and I don't even know what bread flower is but I smell it haha. This stage lasts a minute before I'm left with a pure white, strong, oriental-floral mix of jasmine flower, frangipani, and gardenia atop a coconut sandalwood base that's a little generic and body spray-ish (BBW/VS), pretty long lasting though.

Very photorealistic and unique with that sweet sticky rice scent. But alas, it isn't for me. I'm very hit or miss with coconut. Sometimes it works beautifully for me, other times it is migraine inducing. Unfortunately as much as I love the combination of notes in this fragrance the coconut used falls into the latter category for me. So I do wholeheartedly recommend this scent to anyone who doesn't fall into coconut migraines like me.

It starts off nice. A creamy sweet coconut scent, but then the coconut turns sour and becomes almost soapy or like a cheap candle. The florals come out after the coconut softens, but it just becomes odd on me, a strong puddingy, soapy flower. Im not sure how to explain it, but it's not for me.

jesus christ, i can TASTE this. i'm not even sure i like it—in fact, i think i don't—but i can taste sticky pandan desert and rice cakes in the back of my throat. it's so tangible it kind of makes me gag, but if you want a photorealistic asian gourmand, run to try this.

I’m looking for a perfume with a rice fragrance. Ideally, the scent should be gentle, non-aggressive, and have a cozy feel for winter use. That’s why a friend of mine recommended this perfume. I had the chance to try a sample at his place yesterday. How should I describe it? I feel that this brand’s perfumes smell quite cheap. Despite the high price, it doesn’t have a sophisticated feel at all. Upon the first spray, there was a strong coconut scent, which was actually a bit pleasant at first. However, as the coconut faded, the artificial quality became more pronounced, resembling the scent of a not so pleasant coconut scented candle. Later, a mix of cheap tropical notes and an indistinct floral scent completely put me off. I originally chose it for the rice note, but in the end, I couldn’t detect any trace of rice at all. My impression is that this kind of niche perfume is fine for personal use, but if you want to wear it to formal occasions, it’s better to skip it. The cheapness of the scent will betray you in no time. Plus, the scent lasted so long that I had to take a shower when I got home to wash the smell off.

Bleh. I was really looking forward to a coconut sticky rice accord, but unfortunately this one gets a candle/soapy mixed with stale food vibe once it hits my skin. In the vial it smells nice, sort of like Vacation and CSP Vanille Banane. Resort-like and vaguely artificial, in an attractive way. Unfortunately I have experienced a lot of indie "foodie" type scents, so the bread/fried type notes, quickly develop this terrible quality on me. It's like being in a mall outside of a Yankee Candle store near a food court and a bathroom that has just been cleaned. The rice note comes off like trying to re-wear a shirt you last wore to a restaurant that serves a lot of fried food. This dominates the entire perfume, leaving it difficult to enjoy any semblance of the sunscreen. I think there's potential here for others, but if you think you may have experienced this strange soapiness before, I would steer clear.

I was recommended this fragrance on Reddit when I was searching for something rice-oriented. Chokedee? More like I’m choking on this scent because, seriously, what is this? It’s like getting kicked in the face by a leather boot. I’m reporting the person who suggested it ASAP. Count your days.

Got a sample of this because it has such good reviews. Boy am I glad I didn't buy it blind. I hate it. It reminds me of a stale ashtray with a hint of floral. So 😞 disappointed. I've been trying to find a nice rice scent and was hoping this was it.🫤

Thai Black Rice pudding in a bottle! This beautiful perfume has photorealistic pandan leaf and sticky rice notes that are absolutely mouthwatering! I love to make Thai Black Rice pudding with pandan leaves, and this perfume captures it perfectly. The rice note is so warm and comforting combined with the coconut and sandalwood, the pandan leaf note is green and fresh combined with the vetiver and jasmine, and the banana with black tea is a nice surprise. My issue is that this is SO STRONG in the opening when sprayed directly from the bottle. The opening florals have a "perfumey" note that makes me afraid to wear it in public until it settles down after the first hour. The last time I wore this, I met up with my brother, who is allergic to scent, after I had just applied two sprays directly to my neck. When we hugged, I think he wanted to punch me because it immediately caused him to have a sneezing fit and watery eyes. With that reaction, as much as I love it, I almost sold it. Instead, on my next wearing at home, I realized that this wears a little more gently when I spray it into the air, and walk through the scent cloud, which seems to give it a little space to breathe and opens it up so there's less of that strong perfumey opening. Also, I live in the desert where it's a very dry 95 degrees today, however, in the afternoon there are light rains that add a little humidity. My guess is that this perfume will be extra special when there's a little humidity in the air.

Guys this is not a safe blind buy. Do not listen to other here. It is cloyingly powdery and floral, not to mention there’s a really annoying nutty accord. I like nuttiness but this is not what is traditionally called “nutty”. This is literally the smell of cashew nuts veering into peanuts- not something creamy, slightly fatty and earthy. No, just straight pad thai. Maybe I’ll try this a room spray. I don’t mean that derogatorily, I actually think it might be quite pleasant if sprayed lightly in a room. Edit; my bathroom smells divine. The powder ones really translates to cleanliness. Then you pay attention and the gourmand aspects come out. Might be my skin chemistry that disagrees with this one. Still not a safe blind buy.

Ah, my beautiful beautiful Chokedee, she’s so pretty! Was first introduced to this as i kept catching wiffs of gorgeous coconut off my friend at brunch. It didn’t smell like anything else coconut, definitely not a BBW type, a lot more delicate, warm and soft. Almost like a bubble of warm coconut milk. As a lover of all things coconut i had to ask what it was. Honestly, this is everything i wished Dirty Coconut would be, with much better performance. Seems like everyone gets rice pudding from this but to me, it reminds me of an ube french toast with sweetened condensed milk and coconut, so creamy and sticky yumm! I actually ended up loving Sweet Celestials more but Chokedee is absolutely gorgeous.

This is a well blended coconut fragrance for people who aren’t big fans of the note. It’s definitely there but it’s melded with other notes that give more of a mildly sweet somewhat green banana background. This gives the coconut more of a mysterious feel v my mind going straight to suntan lotion. I like layering this with Stranger’s other fragrance: Salted Green Mango to give even more depth. Honestly I really love how creative Strangers perfumes are. I’m making my way through this house and Siam 1928 and loving the journey through a small section of Thailand’s fragrance houses so far.

Floral, (coco) nutty, sweet and milky smooth. Vanilla rice pudding on a good quality sandalwood base. The opening contains a lot of jasmine and a fruity hint, and for a second I sweared it contained sesame seeds. It’s a gourmand coconut more than a suntan one. Like Kenzo Amour’s more bubbly, more gourmand, more exotic and more flirty sister. Lasts all day on me with moderate sillage. Full bottle worthy for me.

Does nobody get violet from this? I'm definitely not getting the intended impression here. To me, I get rice and violet. Very strange. I was expecting something different. Edit: Ok it just takes a really long time for this to come into it's own and start smelling like the notes listed. It became a coconutty, creamy, tropical scent like an hour in.

Chokedee really does smell like rice. The rice scent lasts about an hour before becoming just a generic clean floral smell. The rice is sweetened with a sesame nuttiness and maybe rose water or orange blossom water. Like a rice dessert ball rolled in sesame seeds. Interesting for sure.

Simple concoction I get a sweet frangipani flavored rice vibe here I can see this veering banana-ish territory This does have sun-screen vibes (even some hair care products) but I don't think that's a negative. I'm not crazy about it, but it is pleasant and I do like it.

Quite floral, powdery, and a bit generic on my skin. But I do love this on paper. Smells like sago't gulaman straight from the nozzle. WIsh this worked on me.
