Lom Hom Khao Hom ลมหอม ข้าวหอม

My decant aged really well! So I got a 5mL in 2023, and this is actually the least (or so far from the fragrances I've smelled the only non-) gourmand rice fragrance scent I've sampled, which is interesting coz you think rice = food so how is it not gourmand. Since then I got to try Santal Basmati and One Day Taipei, and both still felt really dessert-y to me. L'eau Papier, it *has* rice but I wouldn't call it centered on it. You get that focus here with Lom Hom Khao Hom. Back in 2023, whereas a lot of what you see, that nice dusty ricey powdery note turns sweet and soft (like mochi chewy soft), THIS is actually close in illustrating the inspiration of rice fields. But for me it was less of a photorealistic rice field but more of an impressionist painting of a rice field. My uncle works in rice fields, and I was hoping to get more of earth and grit of those fields here with the story, but I guess you could say it was just told from a different lens. There's a very gentle floral nuance to the fragrance that is mildly sweet for a floral, which I didn't expect from the note breakdown. That's what threw me off honestly, but! I appreciate it so much as a fragrance because of it. Now! In 2025, the decant is drying slowly. I remember not liking it 100% enough to want to wear it, it has aged a bit! The florals aren't as soft now, and also feel like meatier, thicker florals. Rice is still prominent, but now compete a bit with those heftier florals in a way that I actually like a bit more now than I did two years ago. Really worth trying if you can get your hands on it! To me this wasn't a rice dessert, an attempt hojicha, or heck an impression of steamed cook rice. It's something else! Something really different and really special

Absolute rapture for me - could have been a bespoke thing tailored to show off all my favourite smells in the world (toasty rice, black pepper, rosewood, sandalwood, nuttiness) compiled by my preferred mad perfume genius (one more bow Mr Prin Lomros). In his suite of amazing rice fantasias - from the airy floral-femme Sweet Celestials, to the gourmand toasty-coconut cookie Sweet Farewell, to the cosy steamed-rice cloud of Chokedee (which I all love, and the more intensely the more savoury they tend) this is the ultimate - because it is the furthest from sweetness and amps up the spicy, woody, nutty side to the max. Some of the elements listed above (fig, tonka) might lead you to expect something mellow and mild, but don't be fooled - this vibes more like a kind of of toasted-cashew curry (without many of the savoury aromatics like clove or cardamom), and above all - that amazing nuttiness, a quality that's really hard to achieve in perfume. Pepper and rosewood both bang hard, particularly at first, but not obnoxiously. Rice, too, really present and assertive in the best way - in a toasty, savoury, nutty, almost dry or powdery way rather than the moist, sticky feel of Chokedee. Rare, expensive, hard to find and worth every fraction of every single penny. GORGEOUS AND DELICIOUS in every way.

Got a sample of this and a few other scents from Strangers Parfumerie. This one is quite niche and special and does possess those nutty qualities with cashew and rice. The opening is very aromatic with these notes, but it nicely dries down to a warm sandalwood and tonka.
