Magenta Pop

This triggers a very particular memory. It's the mid-nineties, and I'm about nine years old, eating a grape Fun Dip at a Go-Kart Track in Florida. Not far away, two older girls in swimsuits and aqua socks are covertly smoking cigarettes on the mini-golf course adjacent to the Track while their mothers not-so-covertly flirt with one of the go-kart attendants over by the Power Aid machines. Inside, there is an arcade that smells pleasantly of synthetic cleaner and foot traffic, where icee machines hum, and the whole room is dim and all neon and noisy with little digital arpeggios and fragmented songs in C major. There's the clatter of pinball machines with the whooshes and pops of crowded skee-ball lanes and the clanks and hydraulic hisses of the moving basketball goal of the NBA Hoops game, and three snack bar employees have just returned from a boxy, white Volvo station wagon in the parking lot where they have been sharing a grape swisher. The smell of artificial grape, and faint smoke, and something else I can't identify radiates from their general direction as they scan the room probably knowing soon they'll have to draw straws to see who will have to shampoo the soda stains out of the Memphis Milano patterned carpet and scrape wads of gum from underneath the tables near the door. I used to spend a lot of time in that place, and it had a very particular smell that this fragrance captures perfectly. In fact, the scent profile is so laden with nostalgia for me that wearing it sometimes feels like a therapy session, but this is still a personal favorite and one that I like to show people from time to time as an example of how innovative perfumery can get. TL;DR: Very creative grape soda themed perfume with high use of synthetics and unorthodox scent profile that may nevertheless have enormous mnemonic power for some. Not a safe blind buy, but highly suggested in my case.

I’m sooo upset this is discontinued! I fell in love with it just recently. If anyone wants to sell please lmk! That said, from the sample I have, I don’t get a whole lot of the childhood candy/lollipop from this except in the very beginning, and even then I still get mostly incense. I love incense scents though and this one is kind of fruity incense, which I used to burn a lot of in high school so this actually is nostalgic for me, but not in the way intended. I have explored a lot of incense scents and (even though this isn’t *technically* an incense scent) this one is perfect. Maybe it’s the tobacco that comes through as fruity incense on my skin, but either way it’s the exact smell of my old bedroom, and I need it.

Sweet, fruity, addicting, sparkly, VERY lightly pissy, and yet it's the one fragrance that all of my non frag-head friends give the most positively charged comments towards, with the exception of my girlfriend who says it smells like an underpass drenched in stale piss, so make of that what you will. Absolutely stunning, and now it's been discontinued I really just want to buy a whole load of these bottles. Why must it be so much per ml! I want to bathe in it!

Possibly an overly niche reference but this blends Blueberry Chypre by Aromas de Salazar, and Charmed by D.Grayi. Both wonderful in their own right, but this combines them and adds grape on top. Quite lovely. Sweet, deep yet soft, gourmand with a touch of animalics. Certainly worth a sniff

I have 15ml left. It's discontinued. I don't know how I'm going to cope once my bottle has been emptied. I want more. I need more.

I own 4 bottles of this stuff. It's at this point my favourite fragrance of all time. Nothing comes close to this.

Sampling Strangers Parfumerie Magenta Pop, which is a great name for its pink, sugary, poppy, semi-floral character, featuring a mix of grape, blueberry, mandarin orange, caramel, cinnamon, rose. Its main concept is that of candy, but it’s restrained, and fairly well-rounded, starting out sharper but drying down fairly quickly to a more harmonious mix. I’ve smelled some candy-type fragrances before, but this one does a very nice job while not being completely spellbinding. In fairness, I think candy—particularly sugary rock candy, probably the category that best fits with Magenta Pop—is a difficult concept to translate to fragrance, and I think that this does a very good job of creating the concept with fruit and caramel notes while also having a healthy variety of other notes to have a rounded effect. Magenta Pop is sold online via Luckyscent at the standard EDP pricing of $80 for 30ml. 7 out of 10

Finally received my Discovery Kit. I’m a fan of Strangers especially Salted Green Mango and Oliver. Think grape soda. It softens a bit after the dry down and a syrupy purple darkness adds body. This is the honey smothering if you will the ground cinnamon and some spice and maybe some tabaccy, these all soaking up the honey. When you’re nose is closer to your skin an airy brightness is noticeable like the smell of a cork mixed with a touch of red wine Tanin and or some fermented grape. A lovely scent though whilst unisex it’s a touch candy like so for men I’d think it’d be a curiosity whilst women could wear it in most circumstances. It’s a bit rich so best for winter or cooler climates and evenings. If I didn’t know it was from Prin I’d have guessed it’s another Hilde Soliani creation.

Sweet honey with grape, smokey, spice-y, incense-y. That's what i get off the bat. The honey and grape stick out the most, and there's a distinct incense accord that makes me think of the scent you get when you walk into a headshop. This fragrance seems suitable for a cold fall day. I don't dislike this fragrance but i think i'd like it more without the incense accord and the animalic notes. The drydown is actually quite pleasant since the incense really tapers off over time. This is totally unisex, a bit on the sweet side but not to the point of being juvenile/cloying.

Don't know why I see such mixed reviews about this one. I accidentally spilled the whole sample vital on myself so I smelled very strongly of it all day. It starts off with a very artificial grape, which isnt as unpleasant as it might sound. mixes with soft powdery notes like the orris root. the spices and civet creates enough definition to make it an interesting wear. people around me liked it a lot as well. 8.5/10

I love this. It’s pop art — a parody of cheap perfume made by a true artist. Like if Degas created a paint-by-number, this scent transcends its humble, bubblegum origin into something quite interesting.

a grape and honey scent that hits with an initial blast of grape candy and then matures into an elegant blend of honey and cinnamon. prin states that this is a nostalgic childhood scent and it reminds me of the antithesis between childhood candy and your rich aunt not wanting that shit anywhere near her new coat. LOVE grape notes in fragrance more than any other note but sadly just not a favourite.

this fragrance will complete an entire lifetime in 3ish hours. beginning with the grape soda pop at an 9 year olds birthday party. then you're 14 and wearing juicy couture for the first time. then you're a young wasp freshening up your wine stained teeth in your neighbors' off suite guest bathroom. suddenly, you're retired, you're getting gussied up to go to bingo, you're a mature rose.

I get very strong similarities to Bapteme du feu by Serge Lutens. Medicinal, sticky and smokey, it shares the same animalic notes. Definatley sample before buying. I think the Serge Lutens is better value for money.

I am new to perfumes, this is actually my first review ever of a perfume, so take this with a grain of salt: I was really excited about this one. Since I've been stuck inside during the pandemic, I have missed smelling different smells, so I started to buy perfume samples. I've had a streak of woodsy scents lately so I was genuinely excited to switch it up to a fruity scent.I read "grape soda and popping candy" and was all for it. Unfortunately, this perfume is nothing but incense to me. Just pure Nag Champa incense. I loved Salted Mango but this one is not for me. Maybe I was just disappointed because I expected something entirely different.

A cocktail of grape, wine, honey and incense, with a strong civet note in the opening. This is an oddball scent, something I can’t imagine wearing in heat, even though this was part of the summer 2020 sample set. I’m getting the Nag Champa incense drydown as another reviewer notes. Magenta Pop is better as a home spray and not something I want to wear on my body. It’s not uber synthetic so I can see the appeal for people that like Nag Champa. I haven’t found a Strangers Parfumerie that works for me. I’m left with the impression that the perfumer is trying too hard - trying too hard to be different, to stand out, to be noticed.

90% of Prin Lomros's work I adore. 8% I don't love personally, but can admire. Then there's the rogue 2% which are absolutely abominable. A very respectable average, but this one falls into the last category for me - one to file away with (the deliberately repulsive) Sombre in the "ugh GET IT OFF ME right now!!!" bucket. Repulsively oversugared synthetic fruit-gum grapeyness which on my skin turns (the right word) to an unmistakable scent memory of puking after eating too many sweeties as a kid. Maybe that chimes with the supposed scent story of a happy hop back to childhood... but oh, no, nononono. Please no. Overpowering in all the wrong ways. Its only redeeming feature - really struggling to be fair here - is that if you can ride out the hours of bludgeoning fake-fruit, there IS a more interesting and slightly more pleasant and lowkey layer of woody-spicy (cinnamon and ginger and cedar-analog) underneath, which is ALMOST nice. As a purely personal reaction, as juvenile as the scent itself: ick! yuck! gross! peeee-uwww!!! (And to be clear: all the same I still think Prin's a genius and I will forever insist that he has cooked up some of the most beautiful scents in the world. Just not this one!)

260 I don’t get any purple grapes at all! Also, that amazing list of notes doesn’t materialize in the scent... First it’s a bit fruity, musky(blueberry?) and then it goes straight to the medicine cabinet. A strong antiseptic note takes over. Bummer, I really wanted grape. If you do, Carosello does a good job at that. Original Poison has a great purple grape note too. 0/10-disappointing, no grape

on first spray, this makes *quite* the impression on you. the grape and wine is SUCH a great pair, the booze and fruit vibe off each other and create a nice, pleasant, exciting aura. lurking in the background is something a little moist and vegetal, possibly the leather or the beeswax/honeycomb, and it does play on my mind a little bit, i must say. the rose also chimes in and adds to the scent, however, i must say, overall, there is something lacking. don't get me wrong, this is batting at around 6-7 out of ten, but it's missing something to give it that push up towards 'buy me' territory. maybe a light basey resin or some woods, hard to say. definitely worth a try and almost certainly worth a second shot... ***EDIT*** The dry down reminds me of a CH scent, 212 or something like that. Tai Po market Sasa or Bonjour. Yikes. Leans slightly few, but not all that much...

I purchased this after sampling. It wasn't the grape centric scent I wanted. In fact there isn't much sweetness in here despite reviews and note list. However, it's very complex. It has a lot of bitter astringency and this is evocative, not so much a crowd pleaser. Leather, licorice and tobacco dominate. The sweetness is in the background. The final drydown is completely different to the opening and mid. But it's still complex. If I had to summarise this frag in one sentence, "Its complicated".

This was the one I came to sample, and yet was the one that puzzled me the most. A grape note lying halfway between the stickiness of grape-flavoured candies and powdery grape-scented pen grips announces its presence from the get go, and a sharp note with an acidic bite somewhat like wine dregs emerges soon after. Powdery, balsamic beeswax and a touch of civet add some animalic depth, making Magenta Pop a very unusual composition indeed. Definitely one to sample.
