L'Éphémère

The rose here is contemplative, brooding. This attar adds up to something far greater than the notes. It often doesn’t even seem floral. Then at times, it morphs. Ah, yes, comforting florals. Then again, broody darkness. This is one of the greatest perfumes I’ve sampled. But for Sultan Pasha, just another day at work. Extraordinary. I don’t know why this one doesn’t get more love. I am glad I bought 3mL of it.

A primal rose, castoreum, patchouli combo. Very natural, musty and thick. A little bit of freshness from aldehydes and violet leaf. A comforting scent for me, and I usually run away from patchouli heavy fragrances, but this is the best I have tried. The notes are a bit similar to Chanel Antaeus, but this is much more deep and raw.

Aldehydic floral. Vintage French perfumery in style. The feel is beautiful and relaxed. Stunning.

The main accord is a lush natural smelling rose and a earthy smelling patchouli note. I swear if you close your eyes you could be in your garden smelling it from a rose bush. Hints of other florals like jasmine and violet come and go with a animalic tinge on the back end of the scent. It quickly disappears though making you wonder if it was your imagination. I love the way Sultan Pasha adds that animalic accord to a greater or smaller degree to his scents giving the compositions that sensuality. The scent smells formal and serious with the patchouli almost taking on a dark chocolate vibe with the lush rose accord. It's floral fresh and austere but has many facets as time goes by like lily of the valley and other notes weaving in and out of the red rose and patchouli accord. Very beautiful and natural smelling.

This mainly smells of a stunning rose absolute or otto, but working with these materials as I have I can say how difficult it is to make a rounded scent when you put such a prominent focus on a wonderful rose material. There's a hint of more powdery sweet florals, like gernaium with a dialled minty element and touches of violets. I get some sweetness there and I know there's a great base holding this rose down but I can't really smell what's in it, perhaps that speaks to the smoothness of the blend.

Beautiful aldehydes in the opening, patch, jasmine,and the usual giant rose but a little more classic, melancholic offer a pleasant vintage base with salty puffs and a clean aura. Leather and animal suffocate the composition. To my nose they are superfluous and bore the whole central part. Enhance the finish by softening a bit and becoming more groomed, powdery and soapy. Interesting and pleasant for me too, who often quarrel with roses. More feminine and comforting. Not bad!

I have gotten the sense of what this guy is all about. The perfume is musky, a little animalic, deeply rose. While it’s interesting I feel like the animal musk/leathery elements and the rose overtake the composition completely and it bores me. Still looking for gold, it’s not here. 7/10

Pleasant floral heavy attar i got no leather, woody and certainly no animalic scents. Would say this one would appeal to woman more than men. Performance was solid 9 hours but again no sillage.

The first thing I detect in this attar is the bright sparkling aldehyde which I think is the C11 along with others. I also detect the Turkish rose straight away. This is followed by a green ozonic touch from the violet leaf and a floral indolic touch from Jasmine grandiflorum. As the aldehydes fade away, the rose becomes more prominent, I get more Turkish rose than Bulgarian, there is definitely a sweet resinous touch in the background, I will not be surprised if honey is present in tiny amounts along with the benzoin. I also detect a sweet clean lily of the valley accord in the background but also castoreum creating a beautiful contrast. Patchouli plays an important role in this attar adding a green earthy touch. In the drydown, I detect Ambergris which is very prominent to my nose adding a salty warmth feeling and pushing the other notes.

A soft, resinous rose-sandalwood with aldehydes just over there, lurking in the background. This reminds me of an Amouage attar I tried a few years back, the name escapes me. It's a beautiful scent, no doubt about it. It's just not 'amazing', memorable. If you were to ask me "What does a standard attar smell like?", I would point to this as an example...
