Superdry Double Dry

Just wearing this for the first time having bought what I can only assume is a bottle from a 2020/2021 batch. The usual minimal, masculine, robust cardboard packaging giving a surprisingly premium feel with an apparent nod to ecological ethics. The bottle is the original, recognisable Superdry, pseudo-industrial heavy block of glass, metal and leather. The scent is very pleasant with echoes of Terre D'Hermes Eau Intense Vetiver. Is it like Acqua Di Gio?.......no, it's really not. Sorry. If you took all the spices, incense and woods out of it then yes it might have a similar musky-citrus character but I think would still be sufficiently different to ADG. SuperDry Double Dry is indeed a very 'dry' citrus-spicy, aromatic fragrance. A little more mature than the usual SuperDry offerings so perhaps not an out and out mass appealer but I personally I like this type of scent a lot. The one big draw back is the performance. It goes on strong and fresh with all the notes on display but then one by one they start to disappear, from top to bottom. Somewhere between 1 and 2 hours after spraying all I am left with is a quiet skin scent of peppery-Juniper, musk and woods and that's it until it finally disappears at around the 5 hour mark. Overall, the character of Terre D'Hermes Eau Intense Vetiver still appeals to me more but if the performance of SuperDry Double Dry were sufficiently better this would be a suitable alternative as a decent, everyday, do-it-all, citrus-aromatic scent. Alas this has poor performance, even for the £20 I paid for it. I'm thinking maybe this, like so many oldie-but-goodie fragrances, has been the victim of cost-conscious reformulations in the 10 years since first release so I should probably have bought this when it first came out to appreciate it at its best. Instead I will stick to my go-to cheapy - David Beckham Homme, the OG from way back. Still gets me tons of compliments every time I wear it and can be worn anytime except maybe the high heat of summer.
