Idyll

Before I start my review I must say props to the company. I ordered 2 samples (Prakt and Idyll) and was sent some swedish candies and a 3rd sample (virke) free of charge. Also shipping was $10 for international and I ordered it at like 1am US Central on Monday 5/2 and it arrived at like 8am Thursday 5/5. Ive had packages within a few hours drive take longer than that. Now for the review after 1 full wear. (Disclaimer: I dont know what cloudberries smell or taste like) The opening on this came across like a very nice Orange with some nice sweetness to it, but not overly. One of my favorite orange notes I have personally smelt actually. It then dries and brings in sort of cardamom/clove with maybe something that feels like black pepper notes with it and dulling down the sweetness of the orange a tad, but this also blends with the green earthy (not too earthy like TDH or anything) notes of the patchouli, vetiver, and the tobacco. I got about 6 hours but with nice projection for the first 2. I was also wearing this in the Southeast heat for a bit, but the scent didnt feel out of place actually which was surprising. I did my simple 5 spray for those curious. I really think you can make this work in any season even is the Southeast US its summer wearable (maybe avoid 100°F or worse tho) Overall I really like this fragrance and in a dumb comparison that might be totally wrong, this feels like a way less dirty and more sweet TDH for me. Not quite the same, but its like the Swedish cousin and I honestly love this way more in that regard. Still need to try my other 2 samples before I commit to a purchase, but this definitely caught my attention in more ways than I had hoped.

I'll be honest, I only really enquired about this one because it lists cloudberry as an ingredient, and my experiences with cloudberry were all deeply positive (we ate fresh cloudberries in Tampere, we bought cloudberry liquor after our trip and gave a bottle of the stuff as a wedding present to a fellow Finnophile), and yet, I have/had no idea what it really smells like... All the above aside, it's a wonderful scent, and one worth trialling and using. There is a clear spiciness about it, either from spice itself, or from something fresh and herbal, like mint or something else leafy. Behind that, I get a few trace elements of something herbal and basey, it might be the vetiver, it's hard to tell. What I can say about this scent is that it's uplifting and positive, not much in the way of stank of funk, which is my kinda thing on certain occasions. I'm gonna try this one out a few more times in the next couple of weeks and see how we go, but, at this stage, I'm quite keen on this one...

I’m a fan of everything I’ve tried from Svensk. There’s a certain DNA that runs through all of the creations I’ve tried from this Swedish niche house. I will try and articulate what that is; I would say that I’m one of the lucky ones who detect obvious synthetics in Idyll, but which smell very natural to my nose. I’m picking up cinnamon and cardamom, over a dry, effervescent bed of patchouli and vetiver. There’s also something sour which I assume is the bitter orange and cloudberry. It’s a wonderful, uplifting scent. Almost gourmand. Exotic. And a big love.

I agree with Tolkashutka, this is a fall scent for me! On my skin it opens with smoky spices, then the sweetness of the berries unfolds. It dries down to a soft bed of wood carrying the still present berries. It is distinct enough in my small collection to warrant a full bottle! Lovely, easy to wear and indeed, very “natural” scent.

Some fragrances are love at first sniff, some fragrances are impossible to like and some fragrances takes a while to appreciate... and can sometimes grow into something I really love. Of course it's amazing when you find something that immediately becomes a favourite, but to be honest, my favourite kinds of fragrances is the ones where you need some time to really get them. Idyll from Svensk Parfym is one of those fragrances to me. Before I ordered their 3 new ones (Idyll, Ljus and Fröjd) I thought that this one would be my favourite. I mean look at this note list: Cloudberry, warm spices, Seville orange, vetiver, patchouli, musk and tobacco. It seems so interesting and exciting. My first thought when I sprayed it on was something like "Hmmm, what is this?" and I didn't really like it. I didn't dislike it either, I just found it to be quite strange. After a while I tried it again and at that point I started appreciating it a bit more, but it still didn't feel like something I would ever wear... more like something artsy that I just want to sniff on sometimes. Then after some more wearings it really grew on me and now I think that it is fantastic! It is so unique with the soft spicyness mixed with the cloudberries. The rest of the notes gives me a feeling of something dry, kind of dark and almost leathery... and that fits so perfectly together with the interesting mix of cloudberries and that spicyness that somehow feels soft like velvet. Henrik, you did a really good job with this one (and all your other fragrances to be honest!) and I love how complex it is at the same time as it feels so soft and cosy!
