Shaghaf Oud Abyad

One of my first ventures into Middle Eastern perfumery — and what a surprise it was. When I first received Abyad like two years ago, I remember it being much more diabolical and vile than it is now. Today, I was greeted with oily oregano, reminiscent of herbs on a pizza night, quickly shifting toward a not-quite-culinary green, spicy incense wrapped in creamy, ambery resins. It seems to have mellowed during its stay with me, losing its once-extreme, cheap sharpness. Still, the aggressive opening demands conviction, but once you push through the confrontation, it stops resisting — settling into something almost hypnotic, pulling you deeper into its resinous core. What happens next is like a bonfire getting philosophical. The heart of Abyad is where the composition turns inward, becoming richer and more contemplative. A sweet, woody oud with a slightly medicinal edge. The texture moves back and forth between gritty charcoal dust and molten resin, thick and slow-moving, before settling into the cracked surface of scorched wood. The finale adds bright smoked leather — sharp and raw. All of this is laid over a deep Middle Eastern DNA, leaning masculine, though women could wear it too. It carries the industrial bite of a tannery or a smoke-stained workshop, where leather and tar-like heat shape something primal. The performance is enduring, with moderate projection but remarkable longevity. The bottle is beautiful and its atomizer creates large, direct clouds. A completely unsafe blind buy, but if you crave a sweet smoke generator that lingers relentlessly, this might be for you. I've analyzed most of the reviews, yet none mention the slight booziness. It's marginal — maybe just 1% of the blend — but I can definitely sense a whisky accord. I don't know why, but when wearing it, I felt an urge to drink coffee even though I had just had one. When all is said and done, I wouldn't call it unwearable — this isn't one of those unapproachable, antisocial ouds. Abyad is more meditative, built to be experienced alone — luxurious and mystical, yet edged with a calculated aggressiveness. A rogue alchemist's fragrance — a skirmish of extremes, where unpolished ferocity meets opulent warmth. I'll see how it stacks up against Afnan Supremacy Incense tomorrow. Blind bought this one after years of deliberation and can honestly say that it didn't disappoint. The instant I opened the cellophane, I was like, "whoa that's oregano". Didn't even need to open the box. Clear, hyper-realistic oregano note at the top. But it's deceiving juice. Unlike Interlude that screams and screams, this stuff begins a bit reeled-in and continues to get stronger as it dries down. Very harsh opening with a good dose of incense, smoke and oregano. There’s a very faint bit of sweetness in the back but it’s literally at the other end of the spectrum, as if the smoke and sweetness were 10 feet apart. The closer you put your nose to skin, the more apparent this becomes. In about 30 minutes, the oregano moves way back and the leather becomes obvious. But for the duration of the fragrance, it’s basically four notes: from furthest to closest projecting – incense, oregano, leather and amber. That’s literally pretty much it. And the incense is the peppery kind that really tingles your airways if you breathe it in too close or too deeply, so watch out. On paper, whoever mentioned that it smells like a messy spice cabinet is dead on. Brilliant analogy. Projection and longevity aren’t beastmode by my standards, but it’s amazing how far away I can detect that incense. “Mysterious” really is the perfect description for SOA. Not mass appealing in ANY WAY, but the drydown is somehow this addictive, dry herbal leather with a gently wafting incense that spreads out like tendrils from a tree. As a result, I definitely wouldn’t (EVER) recommend more than 2-3 sprays, and that’s UNDER the shirt. Any more than that and people might start backing away - a trait that can be viewed as good AND bad, depending on how you look at it. But overall, once I got used to that initial super harsh blast of oregano and learned to love it, I quickly became a fan. It’s like that opening scene in Back to the Future when Marty cranks up the volume on the amps and blows himself back. Literally the anti-aquatic or bubblegum fragrance. So if you’re tired of what’s on the market today or just feel like tearing sweet fragrances a new ____, this stuff is for you. Budget Interlude approved. Rock ‘n’ Roll. Definitely not for everyone. Its probably not for 80% of fragrance lovers. But for those who like unusual fragrances with deep, rich complexity.... For me, it took a few wears over a few months to settle on my current rating, 8.5/10. And oddly, I may be bumping it up to a 9 this winter as I get more uses. Being strong, challenging, and for some of the people you meet perhaps disturbing, you need to choose when and where you will wear this fragrance wisely. I get projection for 3-4 hours and it lasts on my skin well past 8 hours. Being inexpensive, I am more than willing to wear out shopping for groceries or just hanging out with some friends. Getting used to this scent profile led me to trying a sample of Amouage Interlude Man, which I ended up purchasing a bottle. I like Interlude more than this, but they are definitely brothers in scent profile. I never thought I would compare an Amouage to a under 25 fragrance. But that is the power of dupes, they can lead you to something you would not otherwise have tried, or in this case passed by on first sniff. For the price, Shaghaf Oud Abyad is one of the best out there, assuming you also love it like I do. edit: I wanted to add that a post lower down from about a year ago compared it as smelling like Catholic Mustard. I can see that, yeah. But I really like it even so. Maybe the mustard-adjacent scent is the thing that throws people off.

So let's talk about Shaghaf Oud Abyad for a second. First of all, it's cheap. Super cheap. So cheap that you can find higher priced frags at TJ Maxx. That is a super plus. As far as the fragrance goes, it has one of the harshest openings I have ever experienced. If you have ever smelled a dirty ashtray after a night of poker, then you know what I mean. On me, this lasts about 15mins. After the opening is where the magic happens. After 15mins, this frag really starts to take shape with a semi-sweet incense note and a touch of green and citruses starting to pop through. The further you get into the drydown, the better it gets. Longevity is the key with this one. I did a full wearing yesterday with 7 sprays and this really fills a room. My buddy who works next to me walked into our area and he looked at me and told me I smell like a very plush, high-end hookah shop. He assured me that it wasn't a bad thing and that it smells really good. So with 7 sprays I got 24hrs on skin and it is still in my clothes (2 sprays on the shoulders). All in all, I am very happy with this fragrance and I would definitely buy again if I had to. And on a side-note, the maceration really hasn't had a chance to settle in yet. I can't wait to see how this smells in about a month. Aside from the opening, Swiss Arabian did an awesome job with this Shaghaf Oud offering.

If you like incense with a masculine lean, this is one of the best value fragrances of the past decade. Many hours resin and gentle smoke, basenotes balanced enough to give them movement with excellent sillage and longevity, all for about twenty five bucks. It's strong. It's well composed. It's tenacious--I received sincere compliments weeks after I'd sprayed a jacket, surprising me. I understand the Interlude comparison, and there's a family resemblance. But this lacks the interplay of bitter, medicinal herbs set against smoke and sweet incense. It also lacks Interlude's woody heart, with much gentler cedar and patchouli (which make up about twenty percent of Interlude's formula). This is just the smoke and incense with enough citrus and herbs for contrast, but they rarely break through the smoky haze. I don't think I'd mistake the two. But I don't care, I may honestly prefer this over the original. It's sweeter, more affable, and eminently more affordable. Not that my bottle as a pre-2023 IFRA batch. The Arab world bottles may be different as they are rumored to ignore IFRA regulations. I do recall the version I smelt in Morocco being far stronger. One caution: this was terrible on unboxing. Funky, crunchy, dank, short-lived. Two months later, it is a daily favorite.

This is a challenging scent if you are a fan of blue frags or modern-day aquatics. It is not office-friendly. Most importantly, you need to love smoke and resins. I cannot compare it to the blue beast. But when the wind blows and the snow falls, this is one of my guilty pleasures. It took me 1 week to sort out the oregano, Bergamot, smoke, and resins until my mind made sense of it all. It is deep, rich, and dark with just a hint of green. But oh so much fun! Don't wear it to a holiday dinner party or a family gathering with grandma unless you live in Oman or Dubai. It has a strong Middle Eastern vibe and would be a good introduction to less Western fragrances. Keep it off your neck, to begin with or you might regret it. Just one spray on each wrist to get a feel and not alienate yourself, from friends, family, neighborhood pets, or local wildlife. I get 8 hours of performance on my skin and great projection as well. I bought mine online at auction for the ridiculous price of $39. But I'd pay full retail again when my old bottle runs out. Could be unisex for the right woman. Maybe Wonder Woman. Only downside, the bottle is tacky.

I would say it's 80% similiar to "the blue beast", maybe not as smoky and more sweet. A great alternative. Not much to add here as other reviews have been discriptive enough. Love the original but can't afford it, so perhaps I will pull the trigger on this one in a couple of months. This concoction is as middle eastern as it gets. If one is not a fan of HEAVY frags with lots of smoke and amber, stay away. Btw, the notes are messed up. Here are the official ones from Swiss Arabian's website: TOP: Pepper, Oregano, Bergamot MID: Amber, Frankincence BASE: Sandalwood, Leather, Oud,Patchouli Edit: I have been wearing it regulary for some time now (mid October 2022) and can safely conclude that SOA is no beast at all. I get 6 hrs on skin and an hour more on clothing. Great projection in the first hour, sits closer to skin after that an is only noticeable when one comes close to you. I have nothing to complain though. Got it for 18 bucks (a tester) and performs pretty good for the price. Heck, perfoms better than a lot of designers that cost 3-4x more. Absolutely worth the money!

10/22/2022 Batch: 07/2021 Weather: 77H, 55L Performance: Arms length projection for 2 hr, skin scent till 8 hr I wore 1 spray on my left wrist this chilly late afternoon. Smells like my clothes after spending all night at a bonfire with old friends and strangers. This is my first smoke frag. Smoke an intriguing note. I find it fascinating, repulsive and alluring all at once. It’s a raw and comforting scent. It dries down to a lovely, masculine leaning sweetness. The stark contrast between the smoky opening and sweet dry down is a pleasant surprise. Dry down was on my skin by the 8 hr mark, very faint at 9 hr. The picture of the one I ordered had the arabic writing but the bottle I received was in English. Might be the best cold weather frag I own at time of writing but I feel like the rest of me is underdressed while wearing it. Smells like it’s better suited for classy events or dates. 9.4/10

Coal tar soap. Smells better when layered with Aqua Di Parma Colonia Oud. #2 I'm back almost to the day that I posted the above review and a lot has changed! And that's being conservative. I've been wearing Outlands all day and just found myself drawn to this bottle. Recently I've been sampling and really enjoying Amouage and the DNA has now clicked in my senses so I picked up the bottle and hit both sides of each arm, all around my neck and centre of chest. This has become something special, the oregano is not as intense (I'm a chef and I can't stand the smell of oregano, tarragon or dill) and the perfume feels more balanced. I'm going to wear it a bit more often during the colder months. If you don't like it, give it a year and go explore the Amouage DNA and then come back. I know this isn't Amouage, but the DNA is present in this one. Will probably go right up in my ratings!

The "Gandalf the White" of Fragrance Shaghaf Oud Abyad is not a perfume; it is a sensory fortress. It is the "Gandalf the White" of my collection—ancient, authoritative, and forged in the shadows. The opening is a photorealistic blast of oregano and pimento that cuts through the noise of the modern world. It is unapologetic and "mind-bogglingly" dense. As the incense and sandalwood take over, it creates a dark, mystical void that effectively isolates me from the crowd. This scent doesn't seek compliments; it demands silence. It creates a parallel universe where I can finally focus on my own "inner self." It is a wall of smoke and resin that says, "You shall not pass." The Vibe: Dark, liturgical, and fiercely private. The Verdict: If you want to be "liked," look elsewhere. If you want to disappear into your own power, this is your armor.

Not getting a huge amount of amber or spice off of this. On me it is mostly smoke and leather. Like a bakhoor smoke saturated armchair, leather with an exposed cedar wood frame. It creaks when you sit down. You realize the frame is from Ikea and it is not some super high end vintage armchair (the scent profile is absolutely synthetic). It is not a super intense or confrontational scent, which I was concerned about based on other reviews. Very much an incense scent. It can read as a kind of homey comfort on some women (Silk Road MILF Domme energy), it would be a very comforting scent for me to pick up on the right kind of man (confident, not brash, experienced). Would sum it up as: Sweater Weather Incense

This is such an insanely strong performer on my skin.. 12+hrs with 4-5hrs of projection. The quality of the oils used here are clearly a cut above most ME clones (and I say that as a big Lattafa fan), I’ve compared this side by side to Interlude and, yes, the quality difference can be found if you *really* look for it, but in the air and even up close I don’t think anything could be closer than Oud Abyad. Definitely one of my most worn over the past winter season, I’m halfway through the bottle and I only got it in December... I do wish it was 100ml instead of 75ml, but for this quality under $20, I can’t be too upset. 9.5/10, highly highly highly recommend. [Production date of my bottle is 10/21]

Finally I found a bonfire perfume that truly centers the smoky, spicy and sweet aroma of burning dry trunks and branches till they are charred - tho this is somewhat salty to my nose, which is but a minor issue as trunks and branches of different trees give off various scents. I don't get so much oregano as some have commented btw, at least not that much to remind me of cuisine. The sweetness fades during the drydown, which turns it more like smouldering fire - similar to the campfire I just smelled on the New Year's eve. With this on, you'll be an outdoorsy guy just returned from a nice campfire. XD I wanna give it 6 stars. For fall and winter. Good longevity and excellent projection.

Quality. You can smell it. It is smokey and creamy and thick and heavy. Through this all you smell the lighter and sweeter notes. The sweetness might open the door for female users, but it is so heavy it leans quite toward masculine imho. This is not for everyone. A visitor tried it and rinsed it off her wrist. It is also strong. I made the mistake of five sprays on my first wear. Hahaha. People could smell me upstairs and next room. Easy on the trigger here. I am having trouble thinking of perfect occasions. Cold weather and outside springs to mind immediately. I love this one and put it on just for myself, and only sparingly. Amazing value for money and something quite special.

One of the best of white oud I know. It reminds me of a walk through the summer forest, where you reach a clearing with lots of hot dry bark of conifers and stumps. Balsamic ingredients and spices give to aroma dry sweetness, enlivened by herbal oregano and a decent bergamot. Leather is soft, just like amber, it completes the whole impression (not primary amber perfume). It can be worn for me even in the summer with a reasonable application, because sweetness is not sugary or sticky fortunately. Longevity is great and sillage - in cold weather my nose detect perfume only one hour, but people around are able to detect it. In hot weather I detect it better, sth about 4 hours.

I bought this after being very impressed with the OG Shaghaf Oud. As a big fan of Amouage Interlude Man, I must say Swiss Arabian did an amazing job yet again. Compared to Interlude, I would say this is 97-98% accurate. It has much more depth than I expected given the price. Of course, not as much as Amouage, but still impressive and satisfactory to my nose. Even before maceration, it doesn't smell cheap and has no plastic-y accords that I usually detect in clones. You really have to try hard to find something bad to say. Strong performance. Outstanding fragrance.

OUTSTANDING clone (or inspired by) of Interlude (the blue beast). Not for everyone, but if you love that Interlude and Interlude 53 scent, this is something you must try. It's perfect when you want to wear Amouage Interlude, but cringe at the thought of wasting that fragrance for a "not-so-special" occasion. Again, this is NOT for everyone. If you're more comfortable with your basic crowd-pleasers (and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that,) this stuff may not be what you're looking for... GREAT JOB to Swiss Arabian!! It seems like you never fail to impress!

At last in the data-base! For the winter this is a mesmerizing smell. Some say this is an exact copy of Amouage "Interlude Man". Personally I've never tried the last one. But without giving a complete review I'd just say, that this is a gorgeous, balsamic, sweet (because of the olibanum), but not cloying fragrance with a monster(!) longevity and projection and yet smooth! I bought this s one for 25€. Guys, this is a steal! This juice cuts through the cold air like a razor (better than Mugler's A*Men)! Just buy it! You could still get this for a reasonable price.

Wearing Oud Abyad today, wondering why I don't wear it more often. On second thought, isn't that the best and the worst part of having a perfume collection? The joy of being surrounded by your dear children and the disgrace of being a neglicting parent :-) I can't draw a comparison with Interlude since I've never sampled it. However, on the one hand I don't feel the need to, since Oud Abyad is so good and everybody says they're very similar. On the other hand, if A.O. didn't exist, I'd be willing to pay a lot more than what it costs for a scent this good.

Shaghaf Oud Abyad by Swiss Arabian is a fresh, white, herbal and smoky stunner. A cooling perfume with slight warmth. I also sense a bit of salt here. I'm wearing this on a 90F day and it is just beautiful. It lasted all day and is very easy to wear. Unique and full of character. It brought me boundless pleasure as I get whiffs of it for 12 hours. So happy to have this in my collection. Just gorgeous in summer weather. This perfume has great longevity but does not bother others around me. Nothing like anything else in my collection.

God Damn , this one blew my mind . While nowaday Amouage Interlude is too get out of quality and lose theirs halo , so this one is solution for change. Actually , i'm not hope too much on this clone but with first spray made me consider again . Extremely satisfiled with this price and it's quality . If anyone is finding alternative solution , Abiyad is good choice . 85% similar as interlude . I prefer Drydown of Abiyad more than Interlude , although i owned interlude original, black iris and 53 concentration . Goodjob Swiss Arabian

I know it's an almost copy of Interlude, but I actually prefer this one. Not saying it's better but it's more to my taste. It's less sweet, less resinous and more dry. Oud Abyad is herbal and smoky. It's not easy to wear but the scent is fantastic. The bottle and cap are of good quality, the sprayer is my favorite kind: clean short evenly spread bursts. After owning it for over a year I can say it's one of my all time favorites, but it's not for everyone.. not the safest blind-buy. 9+/10.

This fragrance is one of my top 10's. Don't know Interlude Man and don't care. This is all I need. It's deep yet airy. Spicy yet fresh. There is smoke, leather, and powerful resinous incense. The white bottle is entirely appropriate here because somehow despite all the intensity of this fragrance, there is still a marvelously airy, fresh, and almost metallic cold quality to it. Incense on ice is what I imagine. 10/10 Will be buying backup bottles of this one.

I love this stuff, however my wife doesn’t. I think he exact words were” I love you, but not what you are wearing tonight.” This smells green and spicy, woody and Smokey. My wife likes the roll on oil that mimics the same fragrance as this, from another brand better. I tried this as a sample, was blown away. I bought a full bottle. I wear this when my wife’s gone for the day. Very different from most of my collection, I really dig it.

This is a weird fragrance for me. Not because there is anything wrong with the fragrance, but at how surprisingly good it is. I definitely get the comparison to to interlude. When you spray it you miss it. However, it’s also different. The interludes to me are dark and moody. There’s a lot of sunshine in this as the citrus’s are pushed forward. I like this one a lot. It won’t replace an interlude but it’s s a good in addition to.

I bought this a few months ago as a blind buy. At first, I was shocked and wasn't sure how I felt about it. Definitely different and with A LOT of smokiness. This is how you smell after sitting in front of a campfire for hours. Now, a few months later, I love it. It's unusual, strong, lasts, and is definitely unisex. (I'm a woman) The only thing I don't care for is the tacky bottle. There's nothing "white" about the fragrance.

Very nice scent. Best of the line but not the greatest performer. Very similar to Amouage interlude but less spicy and less intense. To me there is not much smoke and it is quite tame but a very warm scent. Smells like autumn and will do great during the holiday season. For the price it is a no brainer but for me certainly not a replacement for Amouage Interlude Man but you will get a very good experience in that direction.

This is smoke, it’s fire. This is a wild fire raging into a copse of pine trees burning pine resin bark needles and it’s starting to rain and the wood is wet and steamy and burning smoke. This is incredible. I have nothing like it. I feel like you have to be badass to wear this or it’s going to be a disaster, but with the right attitude, this is perfection. I adore it.

Performs like a beast and better than the og. Unfortunately amouage have been reformulated and they aren’t beasts modes like how they were back in the day which is quite sad. Crazy how the dupe is performing better. This just reminds me of Arab sheikhs and isn’t for the western noses. I love it and especially for the price point it’s a bargain for sure.

addictive ...starts smoky creamy herbal ... ends smoky creamy ... very long lasting on clothes ... however the projection is moderate and it becomes a close to skin perfume after an hour or two. Not an ordinary kind of scent. For me , it is a piece of art that you like to own and enjoy. @Fazh97 has a comprehensive and precise description of it.

A very underrated one from Swiss Arabian. A clear inspiration to interlude. Amouage Interlude is much higher in quality and isn't linear. However, shaghaf Oud Abyad is a great value buy if looking to get an interlude inspired fragrance. A Very dominant scent profile of interlude is in there at much less price. Definitely on repeat list.

I own Interlude Man and tried this on a paper strip. I didn’t compare the two side-by-side, but, without paying much attention to intricacies, Shaghaf Oud Abyad was indistinguishable from Interlude Man. It was very linear compared to Interlude, but the dominant scent profile of Interlude was exactly present in this perfume.

You have to love incense and church smell to like this scent profile. I personally like it very much and have this for my personal enjoyment, but it's not a crowd pleaser in any way. You need a lot of personality to wear it - or be an actor looking to add this kind of scent to complement your character personality.

This fragrance is soo sexy and smells very close to Interlude. I am a huge fan of eastern fragrances, smoky and balsamic in particular, and this doesn't disappoint. As with Interlude, it's like they took all of these big, bold, dark ingredients such as incense, opoponax, etc. and wrapped them in cotton candy! Yum!

One of the best parfumes I ever smelled. I have it one year and just started to love it. For me it's one of the best fragrances out there. It's woody, aromatic and smokey leather. After some while I didn't use this gem I wore it yesterday and I still smell it after so many hours. My bottle is from February 2017.

I love this scent with its smokey and fresh green aroma that hits you hard from the first spray and only eases of a little bit for the first few hours. Never smelled Interlude Man but I do have Supremacy Intense by Afnan that is very similar to this but lasts a bit longer on me and smells even better.

This is less wearable and mass-appealing than the original Shaghaf Oud, but the performance is excellent and the fragrance may well be the single most interesting out of all Swiss Arabian fragrances, with the plant resins, smoke, oud, and oregano all combining for a well-spiced smoky experience

I have the original decant of Interlude. Same scent. Interlude projects a bit longer. There are some nuances I detect in terms of quality but I could be biased. The bottle though is of excellent quality. I can wait to buy Interlude man. This serves my needs plus my decant is still there.

I loved this as soon as i sprayed it...I've never put my nose on amouage interlude man so i cant speak to the comparisons but something about this reminds me of a PDM fragrance in its dna....it may not necessarily be just the notes but also the type of ingredients that were used

wow. I was afraid that (even on this) oregano and smoky would become superior to a woman for everyday use. But In fact, this is very sweet ( ! )amber, with intoxicating, balanced, not so green, fresh herbs and deep, beautiful, but not overwhelming smoky delicacy! 10/10 indeed!

I literally can not abide the comments likening this to Encre Noir. I own both, have done a side by side comparison and they are NOTHING ALIKE. What are you people smoking?! Indeed, if you own Encre Noir, this is 100% still worth purchasing. It's a completely different vibe.

Imagine you're walking in a coniferous forest and somewhere a campfire is still burning...... That's exactly how this fragrance smell in a lovely way and very similar to Interlude Man. What I can say for sure is that this fragrance has blown me away, this is powerrrrrrr.

Blind bought this after struggling to make the Interludes (OG, 53, and Black Iris) work on my skin-they would just never dry down unless I sprayed them on my coat sleeve. I feel like Abyad is what Interlude is supposed to smell like on my skin. Definitely worth it!

The opening isn't great with an extremely strong, smoke note. Once that passes you get sweetness from the amber step up with a nice wood and spice note. Really good projection and longevity with this as well. This is my favourite from the shaghaf collection. 😍

Oh, this has aged beautifully on my shelf. My bottle is several years old, now all these " shouting edges" have been polished just into a lovely, smoky, sweet, herby, delicious mix with that "hard bone" attitude. I can't wait for summer nights to wear this!

tried them both with Amouage Interlude Man side by side. This is less complex on the opening , but dry down is 90-95% similar. Longevity is similar to Interlude. Pricewise , this is a steal. IMO is not unisex (totaly musculine) and not for everybody.

The opening was very harsh & i got an inky smell, however on the dry down, you get more of this potent burnt leather scent. You need to be into polorising leather, i dont get as much oud or amber in this but it is very nice and i really enjoy it!

Interlude man junior. No wait a minute. It’s Interlude boy. Ha ha ha. 😆 Because I'm too damn cheap to wear the expensive shit. This is not bad. Just don't expect the $200 performance. It only last a few hours. And washes easier out your clothes 😂

A lovely unisex odor, very interresting on women. I think this is a really arab perfuje, not what most people associte with the Arab perfujery. It is not sweet, neither sticky none of that. Just an odor of oud wood and greenery.
