Lilylang

Lilylang immediately transports me to 1975 string bikini suntan oil warm sun, glistening sweat beads. It is very sexy smelling according to my partner. It is warm and physical - not huggable in the mommy way but approachable in the "let's make out" way. Very classic French sensual. The fuzzy warm yellow buttery ylang ylang and the slightly skanky somewhat oily musk here makes real magic on my skin. I think that part of the problem w/the interpretation of this entire line is that the press materials and packaging and information all bring to mind a refined somewhat prim/pure experience. Granted these musks are subtle but by no means just skin scents - they really blossom on the skin and the longevity on skin is a solid 12 hours in the musk base - top notes a good 8 hours. I think if she had hyped this one up a bit with some sex appeal it would trigger those images and more than likely influence the sampler (I mean isn't that the whole point of a perfume storyboard?) I have all of Sylvaine Delacourt's sample sets and it is the musks that I keep returning to. Everyone of them is gorgeous (the Helicriss I think is too masculine for me & have passed it on to my partner). For those of you who love talc/musks in the French/Italian tradition - then these are the musks for you. If you are looking for loud dark musks you will be sorely disappointed. At first I thought these were all just simply lovely but nothing special. Then somewhere in my brain I suppose a seed was planted that had me on a quest for long lasting powdery musks with different facets (bursts of violet or somber iris) and this quest keeps leading me back to this sample set. With each comparison to another house or perfume - I return to these impressed with the longevity and the quality and the delicious nuances. I now have 4 of the musks in the 7.5ml size and will be moving on to a full size bottle in this.

Update: I ended up buying this one and Vahina in a custom set. Lilylang is a rich scent with a slight salty, almost "furry" note that I love. Creamy fresh musk. I used to love Kenzo Flower and get the comparison. Oh the big bottle calls to me. With their discount, it is around $100 US. === I ordered both the musk and vanilla discovery sets. So reasonably priced for a decent sprayer, so why not? Now I have 10 samples to work my way through, whee! This one is my favorite so far of the 4 musks I have tried. Florentina is my least favorite since it has some note that smells like Gray Flannel. These scents are outside the department store mainstream, close skin scents. It would be nice if some perfume oil was available to increase the projection. I'd need to respray, and these scents are not inexpensive, but the world of niche scents is very addictive and intoxicating, isn't it? This one is the creamiest and thus my favorite so far: slightly nutty, milky, and sweet behind the fresh skin musk. Tuberose is quietly blended in so as not to be overwhelming. Let me check the price of this again >>> oh my gosh, $160, don't think I can justify it even though it is a nice big 3.3oz portion and not tested on sweet innocent little animals. You can get the proper pronunciation if you watch the video. Lill-ee-ANG, right? Also, I love the clever juxtaposition of the words lily and ylang. <3

When I first started this hobby I had no idea which notes smell like what and bought in the ylang fantasy from reading forum reviews. I then purchased Guerlain Ylang Vanille which triggered my first sale on eBay and my distrust in ylang ever since. Fast-forward 6 years, turns out Lilylang is the exact perfume I was looking for. Despite the notes not showing the vanilla I identify this as a beautiful, creamy vanilla yellow floral with a hint of powder. It's very French and has a very similar vibe to Guerlain, but more so in "style" than in scent profile. There is the milky creaminess from vanilla and ylang, a bit of fresh white floral accord from tuberose and citrus, and warm, soothing musk base. The chic powder note is most likely from the perfume base this house uses, and reminds me so much of powder milk - you know that first whiff when you open a tub of it? The sweet, creamy goodness. Longevity and silage is moderate - 7 hours and arm-length, which is perfect for me. I'm very tempted to use the 20% discount code from the discovery set to buy a bottle!

This frag is a masterpiece. Like all of Delacourte's creations, it opens very softly, with no aggressive alcohol evap, on the citrus and tuberose top notes already mixed with white muscs and jasmine. The tuberose is lovely and less dominant than the one of Vuitton's Turbulences or Malle/Ropion's Carnal Flowers, somewhat covered by the jasmine, the soft muscs and the upcoming and fantastic Ylang Ylang which stays and stays and stays, moving progressively to a skin scent. As a man, I specially like the sensual game between the slowly vanishing soft (male) muscs and the rising (female) floral scents of this outstanding Ylang Ylang, recalling the scenario of a long loving St Valentin's night. All in all, this is a very ambitious fragrance only very few houses can address, and here Sylvaine Delacourte clearly demonstrates her virtuosity !

A very lovely creation. The musk and ylang very evident on the opening. Ylang can be a very sharp and overbearing note but its used with a very light hand. The musk is light creamy musk. The jasmine and tuberose now come more to the fore but again they are used with a light hand. I like the way orange has been used to sweeten the pot. I cant say it develops that much but it does seem to get a little sweeter and the pepper becomes more evident. It is very feminine, soft and yes, you can smell Guerlain. It smells expensive. I wish it had decent sillage and lasted much longer than a couple of hours max.

The first minutes of Lilylang are citrussy, and after that I only get ylang ylang and musk. This is a musk that stays 3-4 hours on my skin, which is impressive by my standards. I cannot smell the tuberose, but a faint whiff of jasmine or lily. I am not sure, which. All this does not sound exciting, but it is incredibly harmonious and gorgeous. With its soft sillage, Lilylang is a quiet and self-sufficient beauty. Big recommendation, if you want to treat yourself - for others will probably not notice that you wear this scent.

Ok since I'm the first one here, the notes officially listed on SD's website are: Bergamot Tuberose Mandarin Jasmine Musk Lime (limette) Ylang Ylang Pink peppercorns Lime (citron vert) Creamy wonderland of a fragrance! Soft, billowy creaminess that is extremely gentle and romantic. Musk, jasmine and tuberose are on their best behaviour. They have a tendency to act up obnoxiously. Not here under the expert hands of SD. Gorgeous ylang ylang coming through. Incredibly tender. I'll wear this with pearls and white chiffon.

This one is quite amazing... the tuberose and sandalwood create such creamy and beautiful scent, with bergamot & lemon as the sour counterpart. Like a beautiful, fluffy meringue desert. Completely, astoundingly beautiful. Sylvaine has created a masterpiece that I'll be buying.

Lilylang is so lovely! I ordered the discovery sets from the Sylvain Delacourte website (amazing discovery sets; 1.5 ml glass spray vials, inexpensive and beautifully packaged, plus you get a discount if you buy a bottle afterwards, I can't recommend enough!). I never do this, so I'll start with this preliminary review after spraying for the first time this morning and come back later and update after wearing for a few days. First impression - so airy, fluffy and lively. It's simultaneously powdery, fresh cottony and dry. Immediate connection was with Kenzo Flower (the original) but better. It also reminds me a little of my long lost love Dior Cologne Blanche. Let me give this a full wearing (or a few days) and see how longevity and sillage turn out. Lilylang seems like a white vanilla musk even though I don't think this is supposed to be about vanilla. Definitely not foody or gourmand but more like an herbal white musk. Yes, there is a floralcy to the whole thing - but not a recognizable floral; more like the impression of a mimosa-jasmine mix. It's really delicate and airy. Also gives me the impression of Frederic Malle L'eau d'Hiver. That sort of mimosa fluffy white snow musk. Ok, I'll be back for a full report in a day or two. So far I'm IN LOVE. UPDATE: Ok, so this is why I never write reviews when I'm just trying a fragrance for the first time... Lilylang started off so beautifully but over the course of about 2-3 hours it disintegrated into a plain white musk and then disappeared into nothingness. If you are fine with a fragrance lasting and being beautiful for a solid 2-3 hours, then check it out; but if, like me, you need more than 2-3 hours, then this might not be your thing. I can think of occasions where I'd be fine with 2 hours of scent, but for now I'm definitely not pulling the trigger on a full bottle. The first 2 hours are really nice, though.

Out of all the Sylvaine Delacourte musks, this one reminds me of her vanilla fragrances the most, even though there is no vanilla note listed. I think it‘s because the vanilla she uses is sunny, tropical and floral, just like this whole fragrance is. It‘s also the most summery of the musk collection. Like the name suggests the most dominant note in Lilylang is Ylang ylang. It smells very classic and feminine here, not banana-like as it can be in some other scents. I also get some citruses in the opening. In the base a fluffly, sweet musk that all fragrances in this line have slowly unfolds. This is an elegant tropical scent that smells exotic and floral, not like sunscreen or coconut. There is a touch of a sexy, powdery boudoir scent in this, but not much, it‘s still airy and very creamy. The comparisons to Kenzo Flower confuse me, I don‘t see a resemblance at all. I don‘t love Lilylang as much as Smeraldo and Dovana, but it‘s still quite a beautiful scent if you‘re looking for exotic florals.

I would never ever normally go for something with ‘yellow flowers’ at the top pf the fragrantica description, but having got all the collection samples i have to say there is nothing overtly headache inducing floral in them or indeed any dirty musks. Ive worn lilylang today and found it close to skin wearing - none of these are loud in your face perfumes- and very waftingly beautiful. Powerdery and i have to say rather like Florntina i think, and maybe Smeraldo. So maybe they all get similar in t(s dry down?? Im about to receive the larger collection spray lot to try before pulling the trigger on a full bottle. I think i want a bit more sillage that they maybe give, though maybe im being stingy because im spraying from a sample..... we’ll see. Anyway, its adorable! And i am someone who doesnt do massive florals, likes usually spicy orientals, gourmands, citrus and many guys’ scents. So make of that what you will. It is a beautiful soft easy wearing musky scent. Love.

A soft yellow floral with some subtle interest. I'm not the biggest fan of ylangylang, but the addition of pink pepper and musk saves Lilylang for me as the fragrances doesn't become overwhelmingly sweet and heady. I find that the fragrance has a slightly lotion-y quality to it that I quite enjoy - however this might be what can come across as playdoh to some people. Overall I find Lilylang to be a very elegant fragrance, quite soft and natural smelling to my nose. Unfortunately, as with all other Sylvaine Delacourte fragrances I've tried so far, I do wish the longevity and projection was better. It's a fragrance that stays close to the wearer, and would need to be reapplied if you want it to last a full work day. However, I can see how some people would enjoy the transparent feel the fragrance has, and I guess this is just the price you pay for that effect. A really lovely take on ylangylang.

VERY nice. If you are someone who enjoys soft sweet powdery fragrances like Kenzo Flower, this is perfect to add to your collection for a summery fragrance. There is that sweet powdery muskiness of Kenzo Flower, but imagine there is a tropical flanker that adds and hefty dose of ylangylang and banana custard. Lilylang really brings out this delicate candied creaminess that brings banana desserts to mind. It's very smooth, gentle (not weak mind you,) and summery without smelling like sunscreen. 6/10 longevity, 5/10 projection. It projects strong for 2 hours and then creates a soft veil around you for another 4-5.

This parfume is perfect for Summer. It is a mix of Ylang Ylang and musk (but I smell also Vanilla... No vanilla in this composition!). For me, it is more for women (for all ages), very sweet, for hot days. The sillage and the longevity are quite good. In France, we can buy 7.5 ml, perfect for a season. I recommend to test the musk samples. 7/10

This fragrance is fabulous summery perfume for men and women. It is very crisp and elegant and can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. Longevity is quite nice, after 6 hours it starts to fade away from the skin but creaminess stays for much longer. Like it a lot :)

This smells positively edible on my skin, just like a sweet lemon meringue pastry. A great pick me up fragrance but I actually just want to go to a bakery now and eat all the sweet things so for that reason I won't be buying it!

Beautiful, powdery, yellow floral-musc. Very creamy and feminine. I get strong ylang-ylang with a bit of a tropical and banana feel but nothing heavy. The musc is fluffy and sweet. Works year-round.

Musky, slightly animatic but not in an unpleasant way. A creamy, heady tuberose bolstered by ylang ylang. Very pretty. Major fairy vibes, mature but not too serious.

This one smells like musk (of course), sweet powder, vanilla, and a hint of almond. There has to be a baked good somewhere that smells like this. It's quite nice.

From official website: Top notes: Pink pepper, Bergamot, Lime. Heart notes: Ylang Ylang, Tuberose, Jasmine. Base notes: Musk. So, it's primarily a musk scent, meaning that after the initial hour (where the other notes are more prominent) the musk becomes the predominant note, and by the 3rd hour onward it's just about only musk. And a very nice musk too, but nothing new. This progression from flowers to musk reminds me of Nuit de Cellophane. During summer I very often wear Allure Homme Sport Cologne, which is a citrus-y spicy floral musk, so for me Lilylang is kinda in the same genre and perfectly unisex.

I can't decide wether I like it or not. In the beginning it's old lady scent with flowers punching you in the face, then jasmine gives you another hit, which is not pleasant. After the jasmine calms down it changes into a very nice, creamy, summer scent, which smells like clothes dried in the sun, suncream, and nice flowers in a sophisticated, close to skin scent. It's really beautiful. It's so sad it's not like this from the very beginning. I tried it in the winter, so I'll give it a shot during summer, maybe the drydown will be a better experience

On my skin, my partner caught a whiff of Play-Doh in the middle notes and now I can’t unsmell it. You can tell that this is well-made, like the rest of the line, but not for me

I can tell the quality is there but unfortunately I cannot stand tuberose...this one is for other noses to enjoy.

Soft powdery musky Ylang Ylang, not groundbreaking but my favorite from the musk collection.

I love white and yellow florals, so it baffles me that I do not like this perfume. I think the lime is throwing me off. It is adding a tart quality to the whole composition that is ruining what could've been a lovely perfume. A very odd perfume. This line is odd, many in all 3 of the lines try to be unique and interesting but the best ones, at least to my nose are the more classic offerings, like Dovana, Florentina, and Oranzo. They are postmodern but have a classic execution. In my opinion taking something old and making it new is the best way to go w/ any art. Trying to think to outside the box usually doesn't work well and many of these fragrances in all 3 of the lines do not work at all. I would describe this brand as a bit up and down and a little inconsistent.

Immediately the name gives it away somewhat and I'd say the usual trifecta of 'exotic' floral accords (when I'm not sure what I'm smelling) I have a stab at Jasmine/tuberose jazzed up with a bit of Ylang? and nine times out of 10 I'm correct. This is cleaner though and less banana peel, waxy and more fresh, watery, bright and musky with signature vanilla. It's nicer than many perfumes in this genre but crucially not the sublime Embruns d'Ylang by Guerlain. Sorry to keep bringing up Guerlain but SD asked for it really by mentioning the fact she's ex Guerlain and that would be a perfume I'd inevitably compare it to, and sadly it doesn;t even come close for me. It's a meh.

Will not get many ballons for my revivew but I want to be 100% honest. Probably my least favorite of the Musk collection. All because of lilies, the smell of these flowers gives me headache. And the scent has too much lily.. In fact lily is all I smell. Very sharp fragrance, reminds me of perfumes my mum had when I was a kid. Guess I just don't get it - I'm after all a simple girl who just wants to smell good and does not look at perfumes as an art :) Doesn't last too long - faded in about 2 hrs which is a good thing in this case as I wouldn't want to smell lily all day :)

This made me gag badly. yuck!! Some odd combination is really messed up in this.

Very creamy peppery perfume. Pepper and vanilla are the most prevalent notes to my nose, but as Celestya points out, there is no vanilla listed in the notes. I am not picking up any citrus notes beyond the first few minutes after the initial spray. As far as florals, I am not smelling anything distinctively floral, though at times I get what seems to be a whiff of tuberose and a slightly fruity ylang. The problem for me is that the pink pepper note is so strong it is drowning out everything else. While it is a nice creamy, muted peppery scent, it was not what I was expecting from the note profile. I really wish the pepper note had been toned down a bit more in this one. Edit - I wore this again and now I know it is not only the pepper note that I am smelling but also a very sharp lime that does not seem to work well in this composition. It, combined with the pepper, is creating a discordance in what would otherwise be a very smooth perfume if those notes were toned down or eliminated completely.

Lilylang by Sylvaine Delacourt is a nice and pleasant floral, and basically that's all I have to say about it. I don't know if it's just my skin, but this scent does not develop at all. I can only smell some citric notes, ylang ylang and pink pepper. Having now tested all five fragrances from SD's musk collection, the only one that really works for me is Dovana. That's the only one where I can actually smell musk and the only one that lasts more than a couple of hours on my skin. I also love Helicriss, with that curried immortelle, but my skin gobbles it right up. It is very possible that I am anosmic to some of those musky components that Sylvaine has put in her creations; this has also happened to me with several musky fragrances released by JHAG, Chanel and Narcisso Rodriguez.

I've just ordered two more sample packs to give all of these more tries. I REALLY like all of them and love at least two, this being one of them. The collection seemed pretty straight forward, but my first sample set confused me more than consoled me. This one really depends on so many different things, from time of day to the weather. I think this can be worn easily at anything 25° centigrade or less. It's a bit heavy and very musky (as one would expect) the tuberose and gardenia make this a strong, creamy white floral scent that can be overwhelming. It can also be a little bit indolic which isn't always enjoyable. Waxy at times, creamy most of the time and powdery all the way through. Lovely. Will I buy a bottle? Possibly.

Quite a lovely floral offering, leaning slightly gourmand. It must be the musk-ylang mix which creates a very soft, fluffy, cotton candy-like vibe. What I love about this is that it’s a perfectly DRY floral, which is quite rare. It has no dewiness or greenness at all, at least on my skin. I have to say I also can’t smell too much tuberose. It’s much warmer as an overall composition, than most tuberoses are. Also, I kind of get the comparison with Kenzo Flower, not necessarily in the notes, but in the powderiness and thickness, since it’s not a breezy, light floral. I see this worn beautifully in cooler spring days, before temperatures go up heavily. It has a comforting, enveloping, but not oppressive warmth.

What’s in it: Ylang, Tuberose and Jasmin; citrus and then sandalwood and musk in the drydown. Overall pretty and linear. Very creamy and gentle, it’s well mixed and easy to wear. If you like the above ingredients I would recommend a sniff. Completely office safe. So far all of the scents I’ve sampled from Sylvaine Delacourte’s collection are very natural, with average longevity and low projection. This one is nice but it’s also something that I feel I’ve smelled before. I like others better in the two discovery sample sets I’m currently making my way through, but by all means check this out if you are inclined, scent is so subjective.

Yes...it's kind of masterpiece. For a special type of skin:) there are people who cannot smell it and just say , it's your skin what we feel...nice smell but I don't feel perfume...and there are people who would say: omg.. you smell gorgeous .. It's something between baby smell and hot attractive woman..sounds weird, but that's i:)) I consider it very natural a bit sweeet and elegant smell...not too offensive ...skin scent...very well blended...I love it :) But just have it just 2nd day..let's see what will happen in winter;)

I just opened my Sylvaine sampler pack and sprayed this one first. I was pleasantly surprised at it's lovely opening, and knew it reminded me of something but couldn't place it until I read PerfumeSniffer's review where she compared it to FM's L'eau d'Hiver -- Yes -- that's it! The two are similar though this one has a bit more warmth to it as well as that touch of suntan lotion others have mentioned. I'm anxious to try more from this line as the quality seems excellent. I hope they last longer than some have said, though.

Fluffy, musky, a little tropical, and also somehow green to me. Springy green. Fairly soft in projection, lots of musk there. Not getting tuberose but there is a silky milky quality to this, I could even say coconut milk, a touch suntan lotion although may be my tropical holiday associations with ylang. Definitely a fresh, tropical scent, that envelops you softly like a cloud. ** 200 samples for swap UK - check my customs, get in touch let's swap a bundle! **

So I adore most musks and I adore this whole collection from Sylvaine Delacourte, but I am struggling a little to find the way Lilylang stands out from the others in the pack. Don't get me wrong, it's a perfect example of what it is: soapy-spicy, floral, well-blended and clean. In the opening I detect a hint of 'unscented' lubriderm. It's very nice, just a little interesting, unlikely to become a full-size in my collection, but worth finishing the sample.

I agree with orpailleur that this is a scent with both masculine and feminine qualities. Most people have written about this as a feminine or even "girly" scent, but I think it could work very well on the right man for the right occasion. It would be a great scent, let us say, for a black tie affair. Good sillage and excellent longevity.

This is the creamiest musc in the line, I thought vanilla would be listed as a note for sure. It must be the ylang-ylang, and the creaminess is coming from its very banana-like nuances. I don’t get a whole lot of tuberose. Yummy and sweet, a decent tropical musc that isn’t powdery but feels thick enough to scoop with a spoon.

I tried the discovery set and for some reason, none of the fragrances sparked any interest for me. I thought this one would be almost a sure thing, but there's something about it I just don't like. I'm not sure if it's one note or the combination, but it's just not my style nor were any of the others.

I get a simplistic lily drying to white floral musk. It's light but not sheer, slightly boring but is nevertheless very pretty. Full dry down smells like a baby doll in a soft powdery floral musk way. Nice enough but not my favorite of the collection, which is Florentina.

Musky tuberose citrus blend. I keep on sniffing ylang with hints of tuberose and a bit of citrus that got along. Powdery and musky somehow (delicate soapy musk). This is quite sensual and very close to skin. This brand creates bed intimacy fragrances.

I have the small sample box of slylvaine's LA COLLECTION MUSCS. This is overtly sweet scent....not my thing at all on most occaisions. I would not wear this out of the house.....bedtime only. Once I've used the sample Ishan't cry... not FB worthy.

A creamy, intoxicating yet not overly heady ylang-ylang/tuberose combination, which is pretty unusual considering the fact that those two materials are typically pretty high-impact. It smells elegant, posh, and graceful.

Very average lily. A one note but with relatively good longevity. Disappointing
